Jaguar F-type problems
The Jaguar F-Type (X152) is a series of two-door, two-seater grand tourers manufactured by British car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover under their Jaguar Cars marque since 2013. The car's JLR D6a platform is based on a shortened version of the XK's platform. It is the so-called "spiritual successor" to the famous E-Type.
The car was launched initially as a 2-door soft-top convertible, with a 2-door fastback coupé version launched in 2013. The F-Type underwent a facelift for the 2021 model year. It was unveiled in December 2019, featuring a significantly restyled front end and dashboard, and simplified drivetrain options. Jaguar announced that the F-Type will be discontinued after the 2024 model year.
F-Type concept (2000)
The F-Type concept was a two-seat speedster with a 3.0-litre V6 engine from the S-Type saloon conceived to compete against light weight sports cars, such as the Porsche Boxster. Geoff Lawson, Jaguar's Head of Design, had been working on the development of the car, leading a team of three designers namely Keith Helfet, Adam Hatton and Pasi Pennanen. His sudden death in 1999 led Ian Callum, the new Head of Design, to continue the project who would present the finalised concept car to the general public at the 2000 Detroit Auto Show to a positive response due to its retro styling which recalled Jaguar automobiles of the 1950s and 60s. At its introduction, the car was quoted to be available with a manual or automatic transmission and an optional all-wheel-drive system. Budget cuts by parent company Ford led Jaguar to pursue its efforts in Formula-One and by 2002, the F-Type project was cancelled due to its failure to meet production feasibility.

Common Jaguar F-type problems
The Jaguar F-Type, a two-door luxury sports car, has been praised for its style and performance. However, it has also been associated with several common problems that have caused concerns for some owners.
One of the most frequently reported issues is with the rear differential, which can leak oil due to faulty seals. If not repaired properly, over-tightening the coupling can cause significant damage to the differential. This issue is particularly concerning because it can lead to expensive noises from the back of the car, indicating that the differential is failing.
Another common problem is with the active exhaust system, where the valves can stick open, requiring a new back box to be fitted, usually under warranty. This issue can lead to a permanently noisy car, which can be a significant inconvenience for owners.
The F-Type's windows have also been known to have problems, with tiny stones getting between the seal and the glass, causing scratches. This issue is particularly prevalent in earlier models and can be rectified by Jaguar fitting modified seals free of charge.
Squeaks and rattles have also been reported, particularly in the rising centre air vent and pop-out door handles. These issues can be challenging to fix and can be a source of frustration for owners.
In addition to these specific issues, the F-Type has also been associated with general reliability concerns. Jaguar finished 21st out of 30 manufacturers in the latest What Car? Reliability Survey, indicating that the brand as a whole has room for improvement. The F-Type did not appear in the coupé, convertible and sports car class of the survey, so its specific reliability rating is not available.
Despite these issues, the Jaguar F-Type remains a popular choice for those seeking a stylish and high-performance sports car. However, potential buyers should be aware of these common problems and ensure that any car they are considering purchasing has been well-maintained and serviced to schedule.
Is the Jaguar F-Type a reliable car?
The Jaguar F-Type was reported to be one of the more dependable sports cars in the 2023 What Car? Reliability Survey, finishing mid-league in the class and above the Porsche 911. Jaguar as a brand finished a more disappointing 29th out of 32 manufacturers in our overall reliability league table.
What are the cons of the Jaguar F-Type?
On the downside, the F-Type's ride quality is just too stiff, even in its softest comfort setting. It never seems to relax, even when you're cruising on relatively smooth pavement. There's significant road noise too.
What is the engine problem with the 2018 Jaguar F-Type?
Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain 2018 Jaguar XE, XF, E-PACE, F-PACE and F-TYPE vehicles equipped with a 2.0L gasoline engine. The fuel rail end caps may leak, possibly resulting in fuel vapor or liquid fuel leaking into the engine bay.
How many miles can a Jaguar F-Type last?
Most Jaguar vehicles will last for at least 150,000 miles, but there's a lot that a driver can do to push this number much higher. With regular oil replacement, belt changes, spark plug replacement, and other basic maintenance services, you can ensure that your Jaguar lasts for 200,000 miles or more.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-11-09
- Date Complaint: 2024-11-14
- VIN: SAJDD1GX1JC
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The car sometimes has a hard time to start engine. I have to pump the gas pedal numerous times quickly to finally get the car to start. Other times the car starts normally . Also sometimes when the engine is on and in the park position ; the engine may turn off. The auto off button has been eliminated from the problem because I turn that off; so this issue should not be associated with that component . Perhaps it’s a failing fuel pump or perhaps the valves get stuck flooding the carb making it too lean. I still have not figured out the issue but I am concerned driving the car since sometimes I won’t start .

- Summary: Sudden loss of coolant while driving, without any prior warning lights. In my opinion that is unacceptable in a car with a little over 30k miles. F-Type forums all over the world would indicate this is a relatively common issue with some of the pipes under the supercharger being the suspected issue. Enough of an issue that I believe Jaguar redesigned those parts for newer model years, however there is no TSB for older cars at the moment. The current "solution" is owners updating the part themselves or having a shop/dealer replace the whole cooling system at owner's expense after there's a failure. Luckily this happened to me at low speed, but dropping all the coolant onto the road could be dangerous at highway speeds. I suppose there'd also be a risk of burns if it happened with the convertible top down and coolant came up the windshield into the car. Signed, An Automotive Engineer who's seen recalls for less

- Summary: I was traveling at the legal speed limit of 70 mph on the freeway with no vehicles within 50 yards of my vehicle in all directions. I had been driving for about an hour and was on a bluetooth connected phone call through the car speakers when I heard the sound of glass popping and shattering over my left shoulder. First, I looked in the rear view mirror to see if the hatch window had shattered, but it had not. Next, I looked over my left shoulder at the driver side quarter window, the vehicle only has two seats so there is no back door window, and saw that it was completely shattered but held in place with the protective film car windows are required to have. I existed the freeway the first chance that I had, and pulled into a lot to inspect the window. There were no indications of any entry projectile such as a rock, debris from the road, or even the remote chance a bullet or BB from a BB gun. In other words, the window had just shattered on it's own. I was able to purchase clear packaging tape to put over the entire exterior surface of the window so that I could continue my drive home. I still have the shattered window that was replaced on the vehicle and was able to inspect it again after it was removed from the car. Again, there were no signs of anything hitting the window causing it to shatter.

- Summary: I own a 2016 Jaguar F-Type R. Some of these cars have an inherent manufacturing flaw with the coating on the trim pieces. From my research I discovered that this is a wide ranging problem for their vehicles in geographic locations that are consistently hot. Jaguar Land Rover North America is well aware of this problem. On 1/24/20 I brought my vehicle in for service. On this service call the vehicle was under warranty. I pointed out the issue with the right side vent trim piece, the worst of the deteriorating parts. The coating was deteriorating from the heat. In these cases they start to peel or become sticky like rubber cement. The other trim pieces also needed to be replaced. They replaced the old flawed part with a new flawed part. For this reason I thought it useless to have the other failing parts replaced, as they would eventually deteriorate. I discovered that new replacement parts were available, that could have been replaced under warranty, that do not have the deterioration issue. On 11/23/20 I contacted JLR corp and requested they replace the parts as an under warranty issue, with the upgraded components, which they could have under warranty. They denied this because the vehicle was now past warranty. After months of negotiation they agreed to give me an 80% discount on the upgraded parts. This however still cost me $967.80. This does not seem ethical or fair to me. They were notified of this issue while still under warranty. Furthermore, I wonder If this should have been a recall issue. Either way, I am requesting a refund.

SO THE CAR JUST SITS IN MY GARAGE WHILE I KEEP MAKING LOAN PAYMENTS, IT'S UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND DEALER WON'T DO ANYTHING. LAST YEAR ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH AIRBAG, IN THAT CASE - THE DRIVER'S ONE. DELAER FIXED IT, JUST OVER A YEAR SINCE THEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON DASH CAME ON AGAIN, DEALER REFUSES TO FIX, SAYS THEY ONLY GUARANTEE REPAIRS FOR 12 MONTHS AND WANTS TO CHARGE FOR SAME PARTS AND LABOR AGAIN. SO PRETTY MUCH BOTH AIRBAGS IN THE CAR ARE BAD AND DEALER REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. TPMS SENSOR MALFUNCTION WARNING COMES ON AND OFF ALL THE TIME - THIS ISSUE WAS ALSO SUPPOSEDLY FIXED BY DEALER, THEY SAY THEY CAN'T TRACK THE PROBLEM AND CAN DO NOTHING MORE TO HELP. I WANT A RELIABLE AND SAFE CAR TO DRIVE, CLEARLY THIS CAN'T BE SAID ABOUT JAGUARS, MOREOVER - DEALER IS VERY INCOMPETENT, THEY DON'T KNOW THEIR OWN CARS AND INCAPABLE OF FIXING THESE CARS' CONSTANTLY REOCCURRING PROBLEMS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!

12/20/22 I must admit that I was a bit hesitant after years of hearing negative things about Jaguars. However, I am happy to report that I am now 100% satisfied with my Jaguar. In contrast, my friends and I have had quite a few issues with our Mercedes-Benz sports cars. It almost seemed like they were assembled in China.

Hey there! I just wanted to share my experience with you. I recently purchased this amazing car and I am absolutely in love with it! I got the base model and it has more than enough power for me. I also added some extra features like full leather performance heated seats/steering wheel and XM radio, which really make the driving experience even better. The total cost was $72,445 before discount, but it was totally worth it. The car looks even better in person and it's definitely a head-turner. Plus, it comes fully equipped with navigation, stereo, and super cool LED running headlights. Oh, and the trunk is spacious enough to hold a full set of golf clubs! I highly recommend this car, it's truly awesome!

I recently purchased the F-TYPE 340 coupé and I absolutely love it! Despite what some videos may suggest, I find the noise level to be quite reasonable with the 340 V6 engine. The car runs beautifully and looks stunning in navy blue. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase!

The brand new Jaguar has unfortunately experienced some issues, including a self-scratching paint problem that has required multiple visits to the paint shop. Despite these setbacks, I remain confident in my decision to purchase a Jaguar and look forward to resolving these issues in a timely and satisfactory manner.

I hope this review finds you well! I wanted to share my thoughts on my two Jaguar cars, a 2016 XF 35T and an F Type S with automatic transmission and RWD. Both cars are absolutely stunning on the outside and turn heads wherever I go. The F Type's interior is fully loaded with sport seats and extended leather package, which makes it smell like a leather factory. The seats and sitting position are spot on for my 6.0' height. However, the XF's interior is quite plain and unremarkable, and the vinyl seats are uncomfortable and feel like sitting on bubble wrap. Unfortunately, the infotainment systems on both cars are not up to par with major competitors, and even with Jeep or Nissan systems. Despite these minor issues, I am still happy with my decision to trade in my previous cars for these Jaguars. The dealer experience, however, has been a mixed bag. While my previous BMW and Mercedes Benz dealers provided excellent service and loaner cars, my local Jaguar dealer has been disappointing. Overall, I am satisfied with my Jaguars and would recommend them to anyone looking for a stylish ride. Thank you for reading!During the XF service, the engine cover was left loosely on top of the engine instead of being pinned down. Unfortunately, when the tires developed bubbles on the side walls at 12K miles, the dealer and Jaguar Land Rover North America call center said it wasn't covered. However, Good Year, the tire manufacturer that Jaguar chose as a supplier, kindly gave us a small credit towards the purchase of three new tires. We now have a car with one older tire and three new ones of the same brand and model. When I brought the F Type for service, I was informed that the free included oil change would not be covered this time. They wanted $190 for oil and filter (7 quarts synthetic and a filter). They said I went over 30 days past the two-year mark of the car's in-service date of June 1st, 2016. Although the car's computer and the app on my phone (Jaguar In Control) warned me two weeks ago, we never received any emails or calls from either the dealer or Jaguar Land Rover that the service was due. I proceeded to make the call for service and was told to come in the following week on a Tuesday morning. Although no loaners were available, they offered to service and wash the car while I waited for 1.5 hours. When I found out about the oil change fee, I refused that service but mentioned some trim fitting problem in the interior. After waiting in their waiting room for 1.5 hours, they said that a seat would need to come out and they will schedule me to come back a different time. But to sit tight and the service advisor would return with a date and time. The service advisor returned after thirty minutes with a receipt for $0 and mentioned a 27 point courtesy inspection. However, I was not informed about the details of the inspection and the Jaguar Call Center could not verify it either. Unfortunately, nothing was done even after waiting for two hours, not even the follow-up appointment. When I was leaving, the service advisor pointed me towards the exit and said to call next week to schedule another appointment. Upon reaching home, I noticed that one of the wipers had broken pieces of rubber hanging out of it, which was not inspected during the 27 point inspection. Although I am disappointed, I have decided to sell the car at a loss. I was planning on keeping it until the warranty expires, but I found a six-month-old Porsche 911 dealer demo with Certified Pre Owned, which has a much better dealer network and cars. Although I may not get a good trade-in value, I cannot blame them for the quality or reliability of the Jaguar they are taking in.
