2006 Acura Rsx problems

acura logo

The fourth-generation Honda Integra (chassis code DC5), produced by Honda, was introduced in Japan on 13 April 2001, and produced from July 2001 until August 2006. It was introduced in North America on 2 July 2001 as the Acura RSX, the name a part of Acura's naming scheme changing the names of its models from recognizable names like "Integra" or "Legend" to alphabetical designations in order for buyers to build more recognition to the marque, and not the individual cars.

Chassis and drivetrain

In concordance with the introduction of the Integra's platform mate, the seventh-generation Civic being introduced in 2000, the Integra joined the Civic in abandoning Honda's traditional double wishbone suspension at both ends and adopted MacPherson struts in the front and trailing arm type suspension in the rear along with the new K-series engine supplanting the B-series.

The K-series engine features intelligent VTEC (or i-VTEC), which electronically adjusts valve lift and duration between separate cam profiles, as well as valve timing with the implementation of a continuously variable sprocket, giving the 2.0 L engine a flatter torque curve relative to previous VTEC implementations which only adjusted valve lift and valve duration.

Common 2006 Acura Rsx problems

Based on complaints from owners of the Acura RSX 2006, here are some common problems with this car:

  • Oil Leaks: A common issue in Acura RSX cars is oil leaks, which can lead to catastrophic engine damage. These leaks are often attributed to bad or failing oil pressure sensors, causing high emissions, reduced fuel efficiency, and the risk of engine fires. It is crucial to address oil leaks promptly to avoid costly repairs down the line.
  • Brake Line Problems: With higher mileage, the handbrake in the Acura RSX 2006 may stop working due to issues with the brake lines. This can necessitate the replacement of brake lines to ensure proper braking functionality .
  • Valve Cover Gasket Leak: Another reported problem is the valve cover gasket leak, which can lead to oil leaks. Detecting oil around the valve cover area indicates this issue, which, if left unaddressed, can result in engine damage and reduced performance .
  • Taillight Gasket Leak: Owners have experienced taillight gasket leaks in the Acura RSX 2006, leading to water entering the taillights or spare tire compartment. Monitoring this issue is crucial to prevent rust problems and maintain the vehicle's integrity .
  • Rust: A significant concern with the Acura RSX is rust, particularly around the rear fenders and underneath the car. Rust can also affect the door sides severely. When purchasing a used Acura RSX, it is essential to inspect for rust damage, especially if the car has been exposed to winter conditions .

These common problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to issues to ensure the longevity and performance of the Acura RSX 2006.

Are 2006 Acura RSX reliable?

Extremely reliable and a gas saver.

It's really easy to learn manual with. It's super fuel efficient and it has lots of good aftermarket parts to buy.

Is Acura RSX a good car?

For all-around use—an "everyday sports car," as Acura calls it—the RSX is tough to top. It's quiet, comfortable, handsomely finished, good to look at, fast enough to dissect traffic, agile enough to be entertaining on your favorite stretch of back road. The Type-S was already top dog in its class.

How long do RSX engines last?

Just like any engine it is how you take care of it, anywhere from 60,000 to a good 300,000 miles.

Is the RSX safe?

In government crash tests, the RSX received five out of five stars for driver and front-passenger protection in frontal impacts.

  • Summary: ACURA RSX 2002 TO 2006 OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED A FLOOD IN THEIR REAR TIRE WELL, CAUSING TAIL LIGHTS, IN SOME TO RUST OUT. THIS COULD CAUSE A SAFETY ISSUE, PARTICULARLY WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT AND YOUR TAIL LIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT. THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE, YET THE BLOGS ON ACURA RSX WEB SITE ARE HUGE! IT'S AN EXPENSIVE FIX AND NOT ALWAYS COVERED BY WARRANTIES. MY CAR JACK IS RUSTED OUT AND THE SPARE TIRE WON'T COME OUT DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. *TR

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2010-05-03
  • VIN: JH4DC53046S
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: ACURA 2006 RSX S VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT NEW. WE HAD DRIVE TRAIN PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE SHIFTING INTO GEARS AND POPPING OUT OF THIRD GEAR. REPAIR WORK WAS DONE NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER FIXED. ACURA CORPORATION, AND THE ACURA DEALER KEPT CLAIMING THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP CAUSING A NEAR REAR END COLLISION. THERE ARE CURRENTLY 2 TSB LISTED FOR PROBLEMS RELATED TO THIS. ACURA CLAIMS THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY NOW. DESPITE THE FACT THAT I HAVE STATED OUR POSITION IN REGARD TO WHAT WE ARE REQUESTING FROM ACURA CORPORATION. OUR RSX HAD, BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE NEW TRANSMISSION WAS PUT IN, A GRINDING, SHIFTING AND POPPING OUT OF GEAR PROBLEMS. THIS DEFECT IS WELL DOCUMENTED, BY WRITTEN, VERBAL AND CELL PHONE RECORDS, OF CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN ME, AND MANY INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, BEING DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY CONNECTED TO ACURA. IT IS VERY SAD THAT IT APPEARS SOMEONE NEEDS TO BE KILLED DUE THIS VEHICLE DEFECT, BEFORE ANY ACTION IS TAKEN. I INFORMED ACURA THAT WE WILL SEEK LEGAL ACTION TO RECOVER OUR LOSS. TYPICAL DEALER & MANUFACTURER MODUS OPERANDI. WEAR THE CUSTOMER DOWN UNTIL THE WARRANTY EXPIRES, AND TELL YOU NOW YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. *TR

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2009-10-01
  • VIN: JH4DC53056S
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: EXTERIOR LIGHTING - HEADLIGHTS BURN OUT REGULARLY. ACURA DEALER HAS REPLACED MY HEADLIGHT 4 TIMES WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE REPLACED THOSE 4 MORE TIMES MYSELF. ACURA DENIES ANY FAULTY MANUFACTURING, BUT DO SAY THAT THIS HAPPENS OFTEN AS THE LIGHT MUST VIBRATE AND THUS BURN OUT. THEY ALSO (WHILE UNDER WARRANTY) ATTEMPTED TO BLAME THE PROBLEM ON NON-OEM HEADLIGHTS, BUT THEY WERE CHANGED (WHILE UNDER WARRANTY) BY THE ACURA DEALERSHIP THEMSELVES 4 TIMES? THEREFORE THIS THEORY OF NON-OEM IS NOT VALID. DEFINITE PROBLEMS OCCURRING ARE: HAZARDOUS NIGHT DRIVING LOSS OF LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT DUE TO POOR LIGHT SOCKET DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION. THIS DEFECT APPEARS TO BE A BURNOUT LIGHT HALOGEN LIGHT BULB. 2. THE BULB BURNS OUT DUE VIBRATION, OR ARCHING CAUSED BY THE LIGHT BULB LOCKING MECHANISM ASSEMBLY FAILURE LEAVING THE BULB LOOSE, AND HELD IN PLACE ONLY BY THE PROTECTIVE RUBBER BOOT. THE LAMP SOCKET IS HELD IN PLACE BY A HIGH TENSION SPRING LOCKING INTO A SMALL HOOK PROTRUDING FROM APPROXIMATELY 2 INCH DIAMETER THIN SOFT WHITE METAL CAST DISK ATTACHED WITH 2 SMALL SCREWS TO THE HEADLIGHT REFLECTOR. THIS TOOTH SHAVES OFF BY THE SPRING PRESSURE AS EVIDENCED BY METAL SHAVINGS PRESENT IN BASE OF THE REFLECTOR. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED OCCURRENCE, AND A BRIEF INTERNET SEARCH HAS TURNED UP MANY OF SIMILAR OWNER REPORTS. LOSS OF LIGHT IS OFTEN PRECEDED BY THE BLINKING HEADLIGHT. THERE IS A DANGER OF CRASH DUE TO LOSS OF LIGHTS ON AN UNLIT HIGHWAY. 3. THE SOFT METAL CLIP (SEEMLY NOT AS STRONG AS A PAPERCLIP HOOKED INTO A VERY THIN PLASTIC HOOK) LIGHT SOCKET MOUNT SHOULD BE REPLACED BY A STAMPED SHEET METAL PART- - THAT WOULD NOT CRACK UNDER THE SPRING PRESSURE. THE CHOICE OF A VERY SOFT AND THIN METAL DIE CAST FOR THIS PART IS AN OBVIOUS ERROR. THE STAMPED PART SHOULD BE ALSO MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE THEN THE DIE CAST. THE ONLY FIX SO FAR IS A REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. ACURA REFUSES TO MAKE THE REPLACEMENT DIE CAST DISK AVAILABLE AS A REPLACEMENT PART. *TR

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2006-11-15
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: DURING THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS I HAVE NOTED WATER ACCUMULATION IN BOTH TAIL LIGHTS ON MY 2006 ACURA RSX. THERE IS CURRENTLY 1-INCH OF STANDING WATER IN ONE OF THE TAILLIGHTS AND APPROXIMATELY A INCH IN THE OTHER. THE VEHICLE IS APPROXIMATELY 3-1/2 YEARS OLD AND JUST PASTED THE 50,000 MILE ACURA STANDARD WARRANTY. ACCORDING TO ACURA CLIENT SERVICES, THEY HAVE NO OBLIGATION TO CORRECT OR COVER THE COST OF REPAIRS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY! OUR LOCAL ACURA DEALER HAS NOT PROVIDED MUCH HELP. THIS IN MY OPINION IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THE WATER THAT SLOSHES BACK AND FORTH WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE LAMP FAILURE AND/OR LAMP SOCKET CORROSION AND FAILURE. THE FREEZE AND THAW CYCLE OF THE NORTHEAST WILL EVENTUALLY CRACK THE LENSES. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT AN ISOLATED INSTANCE. THE INTERNET AND VARIOUS FORUMS ARE LOADED WITH COMPLAINTS OF CONDENSATION AND STANDING WATER IN THESE TAIL LIGHT HOUSINGS. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND THIS SAFETY ISSUE SHOULD BE CORRECTED AND COVERED BY ACURA REGARDLESS OF WARRANTIES. *TR

THE ONLY FIX SO FAR IS A REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WITH 3 LIGHTS AT $619.53 BECAUSE ACURA REFUSES TO MAKE THE REPLACEMENT DIE CAST DISK AVAILABLE AS A REPLACEMENT PART. ACURA SERVICE STONEWALLS THE WARRANTY REPAIR REQUESTS. IN MY CASE, THE ORIGINAL DEALER HAS CLAIMED THAT THE LIGHT IS NOT ABLE TO BE FIXED UNDER THE WARRANTY BECAUSE CAR ?HAD AN IMPACT?. THE ACURA CASE MANAGER HAS ARRANGED OPINION FROM ANOTHER DEALER WHO HAS SAID THERE WAS ?NO IMPACT?, BUT THE USER ?MUST HAVE BROKEN THE RETAINING HOOK DURING THE LIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT?, HENCE NO WARRANTY SERVICE. THE ISSUE IS THAT THE LIGHT BULB HAS BEEN FOUND LOOSE IN THE SOCKET, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO BE REPLACED AT NIGHT. YOU NEED TO REQUIRE THAT ALL LIGHT BULBS MUST BE REPLACEABLE WITHOUT USE OF TOOLS. *TR

  • Summary: I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW, 2006 ACURA RSX(SEPT.16,2005), AT ABOUT BETWEEN 300 TO 500 MILES I STARTED TO HEAR POPPING NOISE OR SOME TYPE OF NOISE SOUNDING LIKE A BAD AXLE WOULD MAKE WHEN I MAKE SLOW TURNS OR FAST TURNS SOMETIMES. ACURA FIXED THE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME IT WAS SOME CUSHION PROBLEM WITH THE SPRINGS. AT ABOUT BETWEEN 10K TO 15K MILES I STARTED TO HEAR IT AGAIN(BETWEEN DEC. AND BEGINNING OF JAN) I TOOK IT BACK TO ACURA THEY FIXED IT AGAIN ...NOW AT ABOUT 30K MILES I STARTED TO HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT I DON'T TAKE IT INTO ACURA UNTIL ABOUT 36K BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE TIME AND I WANT THE NOISE TO BE LOUDER AND WORST AND SO IT DID AT ABOUT 36K...IM SCHEDULE FOR A SERVICE AT ACURA ON SEPT.6 . THIS CAR IS STARTING TO BECOME A LEMON IN MY VIEWS. I ALSO KNOW IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM WITH THE 2006 ACURA RSX. *NM

Positive 2006 Acura Rsx car reviews

  1. Cicero Morar 2025-01-07

Last Acura Sports Coupe. It's a dying breed, as most have been trashed by tuners or totaled in street races. However, if you can find a clean stock one, you should definitely grab it! It will only go up in value!

  2. Florencio Ryan 2024-11-27

My new RSX is everything you could hope for in a new car. It rides like a dream! The interior is so comfortable and all the knobs and buttons are very easy to get to and easy to understand. Even the engine compartment is well designed with lots of elbow room. And it's the sexiest car in the lot.

  3. Rene Klein 2024-11-23

This review is from the perspective of a spirited driver who didn't have enough money for a Ferrari yet. Everything is as expected. The combination of Honda's reliability with Acura's fit and finish yields an excellent platform. The i-Vtec engine is really fun, even with only 155hp. The lightweight chassis makes it seem like much more. This car's fun-to-drive factor is through the roof, stable at high speeds, and very sure-footed. On frigidly cold mornings, there is a little chatter from the dashboard (mounting clips?) but it goes away after the car warms up. It's great in the snow and never bottoms out. Although I am disappointed about its gas mileage, I wasn't expecting 34, but 25 is about the best I can expect.

  4. Hal Dicki 2024-11-23

Driven mostly in town, to and from work. No long trips yet. The car is very reliable, gets in and out of tight spots well, and has great get up and go and braking ability. I haven't really stepped on it yet, but it has plenty of horses to spare. The gearbox is very tight and fun to shift up or down, whether it's wet or dry. Overall, it's a great car to drive!

  5. Marcus Hauck 2024-11-06

I purchased this car after a 3-year lease on a VW Jetta 1.8T. Although I had many issues with that car, I decided to move on from VW. This car provides a thrilling ride that will make you smile almost every time you drive it. It handles corners with ease and has excellent grip. Despite its modest torque output, all you need to do is take this car up to redline once, and you'll be hooked. It's even quicker than a base Porsche Boxster (6.5) and costs $20,000 less. The engine is smooth and refined, and the shifter is crisp and accurate. I haven't driven a car with a shifter as smooth as this one at this price point. Additionally, this car gets great gas mileage.
