Nameplate history
The first use of the Dodge Avenger name was on a badge engineered version of the European Hillman Avenger, exclusive to South Africa. The same car was sold in North America as the Plymouth Cricket between 1972 and 1974. In place of the Hillman engines, this version used a Peugeot 1.6 litre engine (as also installed in locally assembled Peugeot 404s) in order to satisfy local content requirements. The Dodge-branded Avenger was introduced in 1975 and was then renamed Chrysler in 1976. This generation has nothing in common with later Dodge Avengers. After Chrysler ZA was merged into Sigma in 1976, the Avenger was soon cancelled to allow Sigma to free up more production capacity for the Mazda 323.

- Summary: Beginning in September 2023, my parking brake light would periodically light up even when the parking brake was not engaged. At the time, I didn't think much of it. This persisted until the middle of January 2024. Beginning in mid January 2024, my parking brake light, traction control light, and ABS light were all lit up on my dashboard. I took my vehicle into my mechanic on January 30, 2024 and they diagnosed it as an ABS internal module failure. They said they were unable to make the repair and said that I would need to take it into a Dodge dealership. I then took it to my local Dodge dealership on February 2, 2024 and they also diagnosed the problem as an ABS internal module failure. The dealership told me that the particular module needed was under "Engineer Review" at Chrysler. They said that any ABS module currently on the market for my vehicle were considered "defective" and that I would need to wait for the Engineer Review to be completed in order to receive a new, correctly working ABS module. I was told by both my regular mechanic, as well as the dealership, that my car was dangerous to drive in its current condition. I was told by both the dealership and a Dodge customer service representative that this Engineer Review would be completed in April 2024. It is now June 10, 2024 and the Review still has not been completed and I am still without a working ABS module for my vehicle. I am unwilling to put my safety, my child's safety, and the safety of other drivers at risk by continuing to drive a dangerous vehicle. Because of this, I have not been able to drive my vehicle since the beginning of February. After continuous calls and emails to Dodge, I was told the Review would be completed between 4/20/24-4/25/24. I later found out this estimated completion date was incorrect. I have been given no new timeline of when this Engineer Review is to be completed and when I will be receiving a new part.

- Summary: The AHR in the drivers side headrest of my 2013 Dodge Avenger randomly deployed and will not reset. I believe it to have a common defect in that, under normal conditions, the AHR can deploy without any warning and strike the back of the occupant’s head. This condition is caused because the AHR contains a “cheap” plastic bracket that acts as a trigger mechanism and holds the spring loaded release in place, the drivers state. Chrysler used an inferior and inexpensive form of plastic which can crack and break down prematurely. There are hundreds of thousands of Chrysler vehicles equipped with the defective AHR and there is no way of knowing when the AHR in the headrest will spring forward. According to a the Chrysler class action, the following vehicles contain the AHR defect: 2010-2018 Dodge Journey; 2010-2011 Dodge Nitro; 2010-2012 Jeep Liberty; 2010-2017 Jeep Patriot or Compass; 2010-2012 Dodge Caliber; 2010-2018 Dodge Caravan; 2011-2018 Dodge Ram C/V 2011-2018 Dodge Durango; 2011-2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee; 2010-2014 Sebring/Avenger; 2011-2018 Chrysler Town & Country; 2011-2018 Chrysler 200; and 2011-2018 Chrysler 300. The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation in September 2019 called “Active Headrest Inadvertent Deployment,” where the government organization reviews consumer reports of inadvertent deployment of the AHRs, according to the Chrysler class action lawsuit. I maintain that Chrysler has known about the defects since 2010 but did not provide this information to the public. The Larry H Miller dodge in centennial co is telling me after having my car for over a week they aren’t responsible for this and won’t cover the repair.

I've owned six cars in my lifetime, but I can honestly say that I'm finally driving the exact car I've always wanted. Before purchasing my Avenger, I always settled for what was available, such as hand-me-down cars, or what was cheap and reliable. I drove a Corolla for 12 years, which made the decision to settle for nothing less than a 6-cylinder engine that much easier. I test drove most of the cars in this class, such as the G6, Malibu, and Camry, but when I rented the Avenger, I was sold. Most people on the road don't understand that it has a 3.6-liter, 283-hp engine inside, which is easily enough to beat all of the cars in its class. It's a fun car for sure!

I wanted to share my experience with my R/T after owning it for almost a year and putting over 8,000 miles on it. This car is amazing and with some Mopar aftermarket parts (such as a performance throttle body), you can increase the horsepower to over 300. While some reviewers claim to have smoked other cars and still achieved 30mpg, I have found that to be unrealistic. It's difficult to be both racey and fuel efficient at the same time. However, if you take it easy, you can still get a respectable 28-30mpg. The car performs great, handles well, and is a lot of fun. I have tested just about every car in this class - Malibu, Fusion, Altima, Camry - and none of them have the power of this engine. If you are considering any of the cars above, I highly recommend checking out the Avenger.

The Dodge Avenger is a great car! It's comfortable, spacious, and has plenty of storage. Plus, it gets great fuel mileage. Overall, it's an excellent choice.

This is a great car! I love it so much that I even bought three of them from the same dealer. It's incredibly fast and has beaten many other vehicles on the road. The torque is so powerful that it could tow half of Mississippi after free pancake day. I wish Dodge still made this vehicle so I could buy even more! Additionally, the heater works perfectly every time and has never leaked. By the way, did you know that purple cabbage is good for you?

I purchased my car brand new, but unfortunately, it has been in the shop five times for repairs. The heater core and radiator were changed a few months after I bought it because the heater was blowing freezing cold air out of the passenger side. The repair shop initially told me that the issue was due to excess sealant used during the car's construction, but it turned out to be something else. Currently, the heater is again blowing cold air on the passenger side, which is a real inconvenience, especially with the current weather conditions. I believe that this issue needs to be addressed and fixed by DODGE, as I have seen hundreds of complaints about the same problem with this car. I have also had to replace the electrical system due to faulty issues, and the wipers didn't work properly, which was a safety concern. Additionally, there is a clicking noise in the car when it is hot outside, and the repair shop cannot find anything wrong. The brakes had to be replaced right after I got the car because they squealed when in reverse. I had to take the car back a few weeks after they changed the brakes because of the squealing because guess what, they started squealing again. I was told it is normal because of the new brake pads they use on Dodge vehicles, but I do not believe that is true.

I am confident that the issue with my avenger's screeching sound while reversing and applying brakes has been thoroughly investigated. Despite having replaced the backing plate, rear rotors, pads, and clips, the noise has only worsened and is now also present when driving forward. I have brought this to the attention of Chrysler, but unfortunately, no dealership has been able to identify the problem. Nevertheless, it is clear that my car attracts attention when leaving.

I have had my 2013 Avenger for about a year and a half and have driven it for 68,700 miles. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with the brakes and the car's overall performance. Despite spending almost $1,000 to fix the brakes a few months ago, they are now squeaking again. Additionally, I have noticed some vibrations and wobbling in the steering wheel, which may be related to the transmission. While these issues are frustrating, I am confident that I will be able to find a suitable solution. I am considering trading in the car when I am financially able to do so. It is important to note that while I have had some difficulties with my Dodge Avenger, I believe that it is still a good car for some drivers. Ultimately, it is up to each individual to decide what car is best for them based on their needs and preferences.

The brakes make a high-pitched noise (even after having them checked for problems), and the traction control is overly sensitive. Additionally, there have been three recalls since we purchased it, and the blind spots are amplified by the obnoxiously big pillars. However, the interior is comfortable, it accelerates well, and the ride is pretty quiet on the inside.
