The Jaguar F-Type (X152) is a series of two-door, two-seater grand tourers manufactured by British car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover under their Jaguar Cars marque since 2013. The car's JLR D6a platform is based on a shortened version of the XK's platform. It is the so-called "spiritual successor" to the famous E-Type.
The car was launched initially as a 2-door soft-top convertible, with a 2-door fastback coupé version launched in 2013. The F-Type underwent a facelift for the 2021 model year. It was unveiled in December 2019, featuring a significantly restyled front end and dashboard, and simplified drivetrain options. Jaguar announced that the F-Type will be discontinued after the 2024 model year.
F-Type concept (2000)
The F-Type concept was a two-seat speedster with a 3.0-litre V6 engine from the S-Type saloon conceived to compete against light weight sports cars, such as the Porsche Boxster. Geoff Lawson, Jaguar's Head of Design, had been working on the development of the car, leading a team of three designers namely Keith Helfet, Adam Hatton and Pasi Pennanen. His sudden death in 1999 led Ian Callum, the new Head of Design, to continue the project who would present the finalised concept car to the general public at the 2000 Detroit Auto Show to a positive response due to its retro styling which recalled Jaguar automobiles of the 1950s and 60s. At its introduction, the car was quoted to be available with a manual or automatic transmission and an optional all-wheel-drive system. Budget cuts by parent company Ford led Jaguar to pursue its efforts in Formula-One and by 2002, the F-Type project was cancelled due to its failure to meet production feasibility.

ON AUGUST 3, 2017 MY VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN AND WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER REPEATED TRIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE IT STAYED FOR ANOTHER 15 DAYS. THE DEALER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO MELTED PINS IN THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE. THE DEFECTIVE PINS WERE DECLARED REPAIRED AND THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE RENEWED. MILEAGE ON THE CAR WAS 997 MILES ENTERING THE DEALER AND 1149 MILES LEAVING. IN THE LAST 7 WEEKS, I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN THE CAR ABOUT 100 MILES BECAUSE OF MY LACK OF CONFIDENCE IN IT. - Consequence: If the lower control arm bolt connecting bolt fails, the rear control arm assembly may separate from the vehicle, resulting in a loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the bolt that connects the rear lower control arm to the rear knuckle joint, free of charge. I really adore my 2016 F type R. It's been great so far, except for the fact that it attracts a lot of attention wherever I go. I love how it looks and performs, and I haven't had any mechanical or service issues yet. It's a really impressive piece of machinery that's beautifully hidden under a stunning piece of art.

I finally took the plunge and bought my dream luxury exotic sports car after drooling over it for a year. It definitely lives up to its name! It's funny how I used to admire pictures of this gorgeous vehicle online, and now I suddenly realize that I have one parked in my garage! I look forward to driving it every day. This car demands and engages your attention behind the wheel, making it a very driver-focused sports car. The reviews are pretty spot on - the firmness of the sport seats may require some getting used to, and the interior is quite a tight fit for passengers. The storage space for anything in the cockpit is scant, but the trunk is pleasantly adequate and has more than enough space to carry all road trip essentials. I love all the unique Jaguar signature features, from the deployable rear spoiler, door handles, air vents, and folding rearview mirrors, to the cool gear shift missile launcher joystick! Oh, and the active exhaust note! It all screams that you're driving something unique, something special - a Jag! I originally thought this would be my weekender or occasional fun car, but it's so much fun to drive that it has become my daily vehicle, and my Audi Q5 has been left sitting in my garage for days on end! I highly recommend it.

Update to prior review: My F-Type was involved in a minor rear-end collision. The rear bumper sustained a visible crease down the middle, and the trunk lid, being made mainly of fiberglass, essentially crumbled. The original estimate for repair was around $6K USD. However, the dealer-authorized repair facility was concerned the price for repair could go higher because it's a convertible. They wanted to have their special team remove most of the rear hardware and bench the car on a device that, apparently rare in the U.S., will indicate if the car had suffered a structural loss. According to the F-Type experts, the car bucked on impact, essentially destroying the car. The price tag to repair, if possible, was not pushing $40K USD. My insurance adjuster's discussion with me included parts of the conversation with the repair facility, including, but not limited to, parts are not possible to get, and structurally, it's a total loss. Apparently, the convertible is something of a weakling on impact. So, when I receive the settlement check, I'm going to research available F-Type coupes from model year 2017, then acquire one. My previous opinions of the car haven't changed. It's gorgeous, a blast to drive and better than therapy. Just not getting another dangerous convertible. FYI - It had just crossed 6,000 miles on the odometer. Be ready for a lot of attention from on-lookers! Not always welcome, though (LOL!)... As another reviewer has conveyed, we've had people walk up to the car and pose with it, hang out windows of moving vehicles cat calling and waving frantically, try to goad us into impromptu races, drive around us, taking moving pictures, etc.The car is really attractive, accelerates quickly, handles very well, stops easily, and has a great sound. Other car enthusiasts have asked us to start the engine just so they can hear it for themselves. And, let's be honest, there's nothing quite like driving a Racing Red, top-down Jag on a beautiful day! It's a great way to boost your mood and enjoy the ride.

The F-Type AWD is truly a remarkable car. With a 550 HP supercharged V8, it can be an absolute beast when called upon, yet still a comfortable ride around town. From 2016 onwards, with the AWD, the R became a car that anyone can drive, even on slick roads. Cruising calmly on interstates, it gets upwards of 30 mpg for hours on end. But when provoked by the gas pedal, the R becomes loud, rude, and hilariously explosive. It has been totally reliable, with nothing beyond routine servicing. I have never had another car like it. It makes me wonder what the top-dog F-Type SVR must be like....

I recently purchased the F-TYPE 340 coupé and I absolutely love it! Despite what some videos may suggest, I find the noise level to be quite reasonable with the 340 V6 engine. The car runs beautifully and looks stunning in navy blue. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase!

Hello potential buyers, I wanted to share my experience with a black 2017 F-Type VIN SAJWA6AT1H8K38814. As the original owner, I unfortunately experienced a defect that couldn't be fixed. In hot weather, the dash would make a horrible creaking noise, but in cool weather, it was quiet. Despite the dealer's efforts to fix the problem, they were unable to do so and I was faced with having to spend over $10,000.00 to replace the car. However, I was able to use the lemon law to my advantage and the dealer bought the car back for the entire sales price. I want to warn any potential buyers that the dealer may try to resell the car, even though they were aware of the defect. Please be sure to test drive the car on a hot day to ensure that the defect is not present. This is my third F-Type in two months. All three look great, but unfortunately, they have had some issues. The acceleration with the automatics is great, but the manual is less so. The fuel fillers, stereos, and various noises have been problematic in all three. The dealers acknowledged that there were service bulletins out for these issues, but stated that Jag won't pay them to fix these problems pre-delivery. Each was bought back. Jag refuses to fix the defective stereos and told me it would void my warranty if I paid the $4k necessary to make it sound good. The $500 Fender stereo in VW's is light years better than the 770W Meridian system, which spews out muffled bass and tinny mids. The bass is distorted in all of them. I thought the 2016 models had all of these problems fixed. I was wrong. The present car is a lease and the dealer won't unwind it because the car was never previously registered. However, I did get an amazing lease: a $96k sticker reduced by $25k, making a first month plus fees drive off with $762/mo. for 33 mo. with 15k mi./year thereafter.But, if the stereo is not up to your standards, the gas pumps shut off frequently during fill-ups, and a buzzing sound occurs when the exhaust button is on loud and the accelerator is depressed between 2,650 rpm and 3,000 rpm, you may be wondering if it's worth the investment. I could go on and on... However, I have decided that I will never purchase another F-Type or Jaguar again. Instead, I recommend buying a good used 911 and being done with it.

I hope this review finds you well! I wanted to share my thoughts on my two Jaguar cars, a 2016 XF 35T and an F Type S with automatic transmission and RWD. Both cars are absolutely stunning on the outside and turn heads wherever I go. The F Type's interior is fully loaded with sport seats and extended leather package, which makes it smell like a leather factory. The seats and sitting position are spot on for my 6.0' height. However, the XF's interior is quite plain and unremarkable, and the vinyl seats are uncomfortable and feel like sitting on bubble wrap. Unfortunately, the infotainment systems on both cars are not up to par with major competitors, and even with Jeep or Nissan systems. Despite these minor issues, I am still happy with my decision to trade in my previous cars for these Jaguars. The dealer experience, however, has been a mixed bag. While my previous BMW and Mercedes Benz dealers provided excellent service and loaner cars, my local Jaguar dealer has been disappointing. Overall, I am satisfied with my Jaguars and would recommend them to anyone looking for a stylish ride. Thank you for reading!During the XF service, the engine cover was left loosely on top of the engine instead of being pinned down. Unfortunately, when the tires developed bubbles on the side walls at 12K miles, the dealer and Jaguar Land Rover North America call center said it wasn't covered. However, Good Year, the tire manufacturer that Jaguar chose as a supplier, kindly gave us a small credit towards the purchase of three new tires. We now have a car with one older tire and three new ones of the same brand and model. When I brought the F Type for service, I was informed that the free included oil change would not be covered this time. They wanted $190 for oil and filter (7 quarts synthetic and a filter). They said I went over 30 days past the two-year mark of the car's in-service date of June 1st, 2016. Although the car's computer and the app on my phone (Jaguar In Control) warned me two weeks ago, we never received any emails or calls from either the dealer or Jaguar Land Rover that the service was due. I proceeded to make the call for service and was told to come in the following week on a Tuesday morning. Although no loaners were available, they offered to service and wash the car while I waited for 1.5 hours. When I found out about the oil change fee, I refused that service but mentioned some trim fitting problem in the interior. After waiting in their waiting room for 1.5 hours, they said that a seat would need to come out and they will schedule me to come back a different time. But to sit tight and the service advisor would return with a date and time.The service advisor returned after thirty minutes with a receipt for $0 and mentioned a 27 point courtesy inspection. However, I was not informed about the details of the inspection and the Jaguar Call Center could not verify it either. Unfortunately, nothing was done even after waiting for two hours, not even the follow-up appointment. When I was leaving, the service advisor pointed me towards the exit and said to call next week to schedule another appointment. Upon reaching home, I noticed that one of the wipers had broken pieces of rubber hanging out of it, which was not inspected during the 27 point inspection. Although I am disappointed, I have decided to sell the car at a loss. I was planning on keeping it until the warranty expires, but I found a six-month-old Porsche 911 dealer demo with Certified Pre Owned, which has a much better dealer network and cars. Although I may not get a good trade-in value, I cannot blame them for the quality or reliability of the Jaguar they are taking in.
