2016 Jaguar F-type problems
The Jaguar F-Type (X152) is a series of two-door, two-seater grand tourers manufactured by British car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover under their Jaguar Cars marque since 2013. The car's JLR D6a platform is based on a shortened version of the XK's platform. It is the so-called "spiritual successor" to the famous E-Type.
The car was launched initially as a 2-door soft-top convertible, with a 2-door fastback coupé version launched in 2013. The F-Type underwent a facelift for the 2021 model year. It was unveiled in December 2019, featuring a significantly restyled front end and dashboard, and simplified drivetrain options. Jaguar announced that the F-Type will be discontinued after the 2024 model year.
F-Type concept (2000)
The F-Type concept was a two-seat speedster with a 3.0-litre V6 engine from the S-Type saloon conceived to compete against light weight sports cars, such as the Porsche Boxster. Geoff Lawson, Jaguar's Head of Design, had been working on the development of the car, leading a team of three designers namely Keith Helfet, Adam Hatton and Pasi Pennanen. His sudden death in 1999 led Ian Callum, the new Head of Design, to continue the project who would present the finalised concept car to the general public at the 2000 Detroit Auto Show to a positive response due to its retro styling which recalled Jaguar automobiles of the 1950s and 60s. At its introduction, the car was quoted to be available with a manual or automatic transmission and an optional all-wheel-drive system. Budget cuts by parent company Ford led Jaguar to pursue its efforts in Formula-One and by 2002, the F-Type project was cancelled due to its failure to meet production feasibility.

Common 2016 Jaguar F-type problems
The Jaguar F-Type 2016 is a high-performance sports car known for its impressive design and performance. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems reported by owners.
One of the most significant issues with the Jaguar F-Type 2016 is the timing chain jumping in the supercharged V8 and V6 models. This problem is caused by a design flaw in the tensioners, which can lead to engine damage and expensive repairs.
Another common problem with the Jaguar F-Type 2016 is the engine's performance, which can be both impressive and self-destructive. The F-Type's high-performance engine can make the car tail-heavy, causing difficulties in driving, especially in early models with rear-wheel drive. The automaker attempted to remedy this issue by making later editions all-wheel drive, but this change also introduced new problems, such as tire wear and suspension issues.
The interior of the Jaguar F-Type 2016 has also been criticized for being too small, especially for Americans who tend to be larger in size. This issue can make the car uncomfortable for some drivers and passengers, reducing its overall appeal.
The infotainment system in the Jaguar F-Type 2016 has also been a source of frustration for some owners. Although the system has undergone multiple iterations and improvements, it has been lumped together with reported problems, contributing to the myth of Jaguar's unreliability. However, it's worth noting that these issues are often relatively minor and do not affect the car's mechanical aspects.
In summary, the Jaguar F-Type 2016 is a high-performance sports car with impressive design and performance. However, it has some common problems, including timing chain jumping, engine performance issues, a small interior, and an occasionally problematic infotainment system. Despite these issues, many owners still enjoy driving the F-Type and appreciate its unique style and performance capabilities.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-09-11
- VIN: sajwj6bv0g8
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: I was traveling at the legal speed limit of 70 mph on the freeway with no vehicles within 50 yards of my vehicle in all directions. I had been driving for about an hour and was on a bluetooth connected phone call through the car speakers when I heard the sound of glass popping and shattering over my left shoulder. First, I looked in the rear view mirror to see if the hatch window had shattered, but it had not. Next, I looked over my left shoulder at the driver side quarter window, the vehicle only has two seats so there is no back door window, and saw that it was completely shattered but held in place with the protective film car windows are required to have. I existed the freeway the first chance that I had, and pulled into a lot to inspect the window. There were no indications of any entry projectile such as a rock, debris from the road, or even the remote chance a bullet or BB from a BB gun. In other words, the window had just shattered on it's own. I was able to purchase clear packaging tape to put over the entire exterior surface of the window so that I could continue my drive home. I still have the shattered window that was replaced on the vehicle and was able to inspect it again after it was removed from the car. Again, there were no signs of anything hitting the window causing it to shatter.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-11-23
- VIN: SAJWJ6DL0GM
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I own a 2016 Jaguar F-Type R. Some of these cars have an inherent manufacturing flaw with the coating on the trim pieces. From my research I discovered that this is a wide ranging problem for their vehicles in geographic locations that are consistently hot. Jaguar Land Rover North America is well aware of this problem. On 1/24/20 I brought my vehicle in for service. On this service call the vehicle was under warranty. I pointed out the issue with the right side vent trim piece, the worst of the deteriorating parts. The coating was deteriorating from the heat. In these cases they start to peel or become sticky like rubber cement. The other trim pieces also needed to be replaced. They replaced the old flawed part with a new flawed part. For this reason I thought it useless to have the other failing parts replaced, as they would eventually deteriorate. I discovered that new replacement parts were available, that could have been replaced under warranty, that do not have the deterioration issue. On 11/23/20 I contacted JLR corp and requested they replace the parts as an under warranty issue, with the upgraded components, which they could have under warranty. They denied this because the vehicle was now past warranty. After months of negotiation they agreed to give me an 80% discount on the upgraded parts. This however still cost me $967.80. This does not seem ethical or fair to me. They were notified of this issue while still under warranty. Furthermore, I wonder If this should have been a recall issue. Either way, I am requesting a refund.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-03-23
- VIN: SAJWB6BCXG8
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: THIS CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH THE 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. WHEN SHIFTING UP, EVEN IF YOU TAKE YOU FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR COMPLETELY, THE ENGINE DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR INPUT AS IT REMAINS AT THE RPM WHEN THE SHIFT WAS INITIATED ( 3500 RPM AS AN EXAMPLE ) FOR OVER A SECOND, DROPS 200 RPM THEN INCREASES 50 RPM AND THEN FINALLY WILL DROP TO IDLE. THE ENGINE IS NOT RESPONDING TO THROTTLE INPUT WHEN SHIFTING THIS LEAVES THE ENGINE AT A MUCH HIGHER RPM WHEN TRYING TO SHIFT UP AND MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT SMOOTHLY SINCE THE ENGINE IS REVVING TO HIGH FOR THE NEXT SELECTED UP SHIFT. IT CAUSES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHEN SHIFTING BECAUSE THE ENGINE SPEED IS TOO HIGH FOR THE NEXT GEAR SELECTION. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. IT NEVER NOT DOES IT. THE DATE BELOW IS JUST TODAYS DATE. AND IT HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS. I BOUGHT THE CAR AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED. IT HAD 1031 MILES WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I REALIZED WHAT WAS HAPPENING AFTER DRIVING FOR SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES.

THE CAR PAINT INDICATED A REPAINT JOB WHEN DEL8VERED TO ME WITH 100 MILES OF IT. AFTER CLAIMING TO HAVE REALIGNED THE TIRES AFTER MY FRONTS WENT BAD AFTER 5000 MILES, I DISCOVERED THAT THEY HAD NOT BEEN BALANCED NOR ALIGNED. I LEFT ONE WHEEL NUT LOSE BEFORE SERVICE ON EACH TIRE AND EACH WAS STILL LOSE AFTER. JAGUAR HAS DEFRAUDED ME ON MULTIPLE LEVELS, THREATENED ME FOR USING A OB2 CAR CODE READER AND GENERALLY COMMITTED MULTIPLE CORPORATE CRIMES FOR WHICH I AM SEEKING SIGNIFICANT ACTION. I AM BASED IN NASHVILLE. DESPITE 23 TRIPS TO THE DEALER IN 5 MONTHS, JAGUAR BLAMED ALL THE CARS PROBLEMS ON NON EXISTENT MODIFICATIONS THEY ACCUSED ME OF INSTALLING WITHOUT WARRANT AND CONTRADICTORY TO WHAT THEIR OWN SERVICE MANAGER NEW TO BE FACT.

I traded my XKRS in for the F Type R Coupe. What a difference in feel and performance! The XKRS has the same motor, same HP and torque but feels so much different. With the XKRS, you have to drive very carefully or else you will find yourself pointing in the wrong direction. However, the R Coupe coaxes you into throwing it around. It feels solid and connected, sure-footed and playful - everything the XKRS was not. Well done, Jaguar!

I opted for the manual transmission, but unfortunately, the clutch slips quite badly. Even when shifting into third gear, the clutch slips all the way to redline, which can be frustrating. Jaguar suggests taking it to the dealer, but the dealer claims it's normal and advises driving slower and not shifting so fast. However, Jaguar has updated the clutch and flywheel part numbers, which raises the question of why they would do so if nothing is wrong. One owner even had their clutch explode, but it seems that Jaguar is covering up the issue. Despite this, the car looks great, is well-built, and sounds amazing. I hope that auto news sites can help me get through to Jaguar, as their customer service has been unhelpful so far.

I am 6'2The trunk may be small, but for most owners who use this car for weekend getaways or special occasions, the way the car's lines work together so well will make you forget about the limited space. Sometimes, design is more important than function. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It's worth noting that these cars may be more common in some areas of the country, but where I live, they are as rare as a blue moon. Be prepared for lots of attention! A year later, and I still haven't had any issues. The more I drive my Jag, the more I appreciate its build quality, design, and how well it handles on back roads near Lake Michigan. Top-down driving is not just something we like, but something we love. The sounds, smells, and fantastic views transform a normal ride into an adventure. The only small issue I have is that for the money, a real spare tire should be included with each car sold. The owner could then decide whether or not to carry it. I have never once regretted purchasing the F-Type. The middle one is just so much fun to drive, so balanced, and very powerful, but in a more usable way than the crazy 8. My 2014 BRG black convertible top with a dark brown interior F-Type Jaguar is over 4 years old now, and time really does fly by. I honestly thought that there had to be That's it for any repairs or 'gremlins' and it compares well with any of our Toyota's or Honda's. We really enjoy using the car, but honestly, we don't use it as an everyday driver. It's a special car for special drives on special days. Since we live in Michigan, it sleeps the winters away from November until May, so the total mileage on the car is very low, and it goes to sleep on Sunday. Concerns: All Jaguars seem to depreciate faster than they really should. I'm not sure if it's related to a perception of no quality or that they lease too many of them, but the issue is real. However, we didn't buy it for resale, and the market value hit in the first few years is really significant. I guess that provides some great values for the second owners. I'm wondering when the market will be saturated with people looking for this kind of wonderful experience car, but at the expense of everyday practicality. I'm not sure that the market is huge for cars like this. Twenty years from now, we intend to still be cruising along the amazing backroads of Michigan with our car. Another year, very light use. No issues of any kind. We love our F-Type Jag convertible S. It's sleeping now in Fall 2022 after a couple of years of very light use. It's 8 years old and has only 11k miles, which might make ours one of the least used F-Types anywhere. My total costs from new, 1 oil change, that's it. We still love it, no issues, not using it much, but we love it when we do, and it still looks amazing and is rare. We're in our very low 60s, and we drive it in the fall when it's in the 40s & 50s with the heated seats, heated steering wheel, heat on, and the top down, big smiles. I think we will have a really good couple of decades yet to go. If you want one of these, you better act fast. I was correct on my first post that this type of car is quickly going away forever. It's hard to believe that it's almost 10 years old! I just finished hooking up the trickle charger, topping off the tank with ethanol-free premium fuel, and putting on the custom car cover for its seven-month sleep here in wintery Michigan. Since it's only our third car, we don't use it for commuting, only for weekend drives and our annual adventure along the coast of Lake Michigan, which is always magical. I wish we had more time to use it, but we really enjoy the convertible experience and the wonderful drive. It's amazing that we've only had to change the oil twice in 14,700 miles, and the original tires still have lots of tread remaining. I remember thinking when we first got it that this type of sporty but impractical 2-seater car would fade away, and it seems like I was right since there are no more new F-Types. But we're lucky to have ours to keep, and we're so easy on it. It's kind of like your favorite shoes - it just fits right and we like it more today than the day we picked it up!

I was a bit unsure about buying or leasing a Jaguar due to their past reputation for mechanical issues. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and performance of my F-type. It's also a real head-turner and people often ask me about it. It's a beautiful car, although it might be a bit too loud for some.

I have owned my 2016 F-Type S convertible with a manual since it was new, and it now has about 43K miles on it. I am happy to report that it has been utterly reliable, with no squeaks or rattles. The engine sound is phenomenal and easily controlled, making for a truly enjoyable driving experience. While I have had other cars with manuals that felt a bit better, such as a Miata and a Bullitt Mustang, the Jaguar is still quick and intuitive. I drive with great confidence and very few cars can outrun me. I keep it well-maintained, and it looks and drives the same as the day I bought it, which is to say superlative. It's gorgeous, still looks brand new, and turns heads wherever I go. Service has been easy every time, and while I now have to pay for oil changes etc. which were free for the first 60K, I am still very satisfied with my purchase. I had a 911 (997) before my Jaguar, and I like the Jag much more. It's easier to drive, especially the clutch, and the car is far better balanced owing to its front-engine design. Also, 911s are everywhere and no one notices, whereas the F-Type is beautiful and rare.

I recently purchased a car and unfortunately experienced some issues with it. The blind spot monitor, reverse dip mirror, and electric passenger window were not functioning properly. After waiting for two weeks to have these issues resolved, I picked up the car only to find that the same issues persisted. Additionally, I found that the infotainment system was not up to par and caused my phone to overheat. I also had trouble with the voice command function from JustDrive, which I was told was due to T-Mobile's network. Recently, the engine light came on and I had to spend some time getting it resolved. While I am disappointed with the quality of the car, I believe that Jaguar can improve the experience of their customers.

I use this car as my daily commuter. Although I have had some small problems with it, such as noise from the vacuum pump behind the driver's seat, the driver's handle going in and out numerous times when using the fob to unlock, the stereo causing vibrations in the door panels and an overall poor sound quality, I still enjoy driving it. Unfortunately, the convertible top motor blew on the second day of owning the car, resulting in a tow back to the shop with the repair that lasted over a month and a half. Additionally, the ultimate black metallic paint on the hood failed with the hood still needing to be repainted, and there was paint failure on the side body panels behind the driver/passenger doors. Lastly, the infotainment system locked up and needed to be 'rebooted' after a software upgrade. However, the service manager and the entire dealership were very friendly and helpful throughout the process.

Hello potential buyers, I wanted to share my experience with a black 2017 F-Type VIN SAJWA6AT1H8K38814. As the original owner, I unfortunately experienced a defect that couldn't be fixed. In hot weather, the dash would make a horrible creaking noise, but in cool weather, it was quiet. Despite the dealer's efforts to fix the problem, they were unable to do so and I was faced with having to spend over $10,000.00 to replace the car. However, I was able to use the lemon law to my advantage and the dealer bought the car back for the entire sales price. I want to warn any potential buyers that the dealer may try to resell the car, even though they were aware of the defect. Please be sure to test drive the car on a hot day to ensure that the defect is not present. If you have already purchased this car, please reach out to me on the Facebook Jaguar F Type fans page and I can provide you with the proof you need to get your money back. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope it helps you make an informed decision.

I've had my car for 10 weeks now, but unfortunately it has been in service for half of that time. It's been a bit of a frustrating experience. The issues started in the first week when the engine stalled out at a red light and the trip odometer showed more mileage than the overall vehicle mileage. Additionally, the vapor lock on the gas tank made fueling a bit of an effort. Then, the SBS system was faulty, causing the air-bag light to continuously illuminate and the passenger seat to become inoperable. Now, the exhaust system is not working properly. Although the car is fun to drive, looks nice and drives well, owning it has been a bit of an inconvenience. I'm hoping that the issues will be resolved soon. If I could return the car, I would, but I'm hopeful that the issues will be resolved and I can continue to enjoy driving it.

This is my third F-Type in two months. All three look great, but unfortunately, they have had some issues. The acceleration with the automatics is great, but the manual is less so. The fuel fillers, stereos, and various noises have been problematic in all three. The dealers acknowledged that there were service bulletins out for these issues, but stated that Jag won't pay them to fix these problems pre-delivery. Each was bought back. Jag refuses to fix the defective stereos and told me it would void my warranty if I paid the $4k necessary to make it sound good. The $500 Fender stereo in VW's is light years better than the 770W Meridian system, which spews out muffled bass and tinny mids. The bass is distorted in all of them. I thought the 2016 models had all of these problems fixed. I was wrong. The present car is a lease and the dealer won't unwind it because the car was never previously registered. However, I did get an amazing lease: a $96k sticker reduced by $25k, making a first month plus fees drive off with $762/mo. for 33 mo. with 15k mi./year thereafter. But, if the stereo is not up to your standards, the gas pumps may shut off multiple times during fill-ups, and a buzzing sound may occur when the exhaust button is on loud and the accelerator is depressed between 2,650 rpm and 3,000 rpm, you may be wondering if it's still a good deal. I understand your concerns and I could go on and on... However, I would like to suggest considering a good used 911 instead. Thank you for sharing your experience with the F-Type and Jaguar.
