The contact stated while driving at 35 MPH and other various speeds over bumps in the roadway, the vehicle was shaking abnormally with the steering wheel becoming difficult to turn to the left or to the right. Additionally, the contact heard abnormal metal on metal grinding sounds particularly while turning the vehicle to the left or the right. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer and was advised that the vehicle had failed a safety inspection and he would be contacted by a third party to buy back the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. THE INCIDENT BEGAN WHEN I APPARENTLY ENCOUNTERED A PATCH OF BLACK ICE AS I BEGAN ACROSS A BRIDGE. I FELT THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE QUICKLY SLIDE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS PROPELLED ACROSS THE HWY FROM THE RIGHT SHOULDER AND AS IF THE DRIVERS CORNER WAS PINNED TO THE ROAD, IT TURNED JUST ENOUGH TO FACE THE CONCRETE MEDIAN, WHICH IT HIT HEAD-ON AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH.   • Consequence: THE STRUT HOUSING MAY CRACK AND PULL AWAY FROM THE INNER HOOD LEDGE ASSEMBLY. THIS MAY LEAD TO GRINDING NOISES, INCREASED STEERING EFFORT, AND POSSIBLY THE STEERING COLUMN TO BREAK, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

    I've owned this vehicle for around 3 years and put 30k miles on it. It has been a reliable car, and maintenance has been manageable. The ride is a bit stiff, and the MPG is not great, averaging around 14-15MPG. The 3.3 V6 engine struggles to move this heavy SUV, but it is a nice luxury vehicle, and it performs exceptionally well in snowy conditions. It's a great winter vehicle. Although I've had some minor issues with the radio, starter, and other small things, they were not a big deal. However, my full-size Tahoe gets better MPG and has a lot more power.

    I purchased this car last year with only 45k miles on it. It has been a reliable vehicle, although it does lack power. However, the suspension has been a bit of a disappointment. My little Frontier actually rides smoother than the QX4, which is supposed to be a luxury SUV. Unfortunately, any slight bump in the road causes the suspension to bottom out, which can be embarrassing when driving with friends. It's worth noting that the shocks were replaced, but it didn't make any difference. Additionally, it's difficult to find anything other than OEM shocks, so you can't even upgrade to stiffer shocks if you wanted to. All things considered, I have decided that this will be my last QX4.

    My wife and I enjoy going out for the day and cruising around with the sunroof open. However, we find that the local roads, which are filled with potholes, can be a bit uncomfortable. This is especially true in the backseat where headroom is already limited. Despite this, we love to turn up the Bose system and enjoy the open road.

It accelerates quickly when needed and all the accessories, including the power sunroof, still work perfectly. I have no problem trusting it on long trips.     My first SUV was bought used in '99 with 26,000 miles on it. It now has 60,000 miles. I had a minor issue with the exhaust system which the dealer repaired free of charge. Occasionally, the gas pedal sticks, but other than that, I have had no problems at all. I absolutely love it and would definitely consider buying another one. The smooth ride and luxurious feel inside the cabin are my favourite features. I highly recommend it!

Apr 3, 2008 ... My 1997 QX4 Has 189,000+ Miles On It! I bought my QX4 with 70,000 miles on it back in 2000 and it has never left me stranded.
