THE VEHICLE IS NOW LEAKING FUEL DURING FILL UPS AND WHEN IT IS TOPPED OFF. A VISUAL IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE PRACTICE OF MEASURING THICKNESS OF A CONVERSION COATING. THE DEALERSHIP VERIFIED THE ISSUE ON OCTOBER 27 2015 AND THE INFINITI CORP WILL NOT HONOR THE RECALL BECAUSE IT DOES NOT WANT TO OPEN THE RECALL. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE WHEN FUELING THE CAR IT IS SPILLING ON TO THE GROUND AT THE GAS STATION AND COULD IGNITE. - Summary: DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN SEVERE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION BEGAN. CHECKED FRONT SUSPENSION AND DISCOVERED THAT THE RIGHT SIDE (PASSENGER SIDE) FRAME WAS COMPLETELY ROTTED AWAY AT THE CONNECTION POINT OF THE LOWER CONTROL ARM. THIS RESULTED IN THE SEPARATION OF THE FRAME/CONTROL ARM FROM ITS NORMAL POSITION AND THE RIGHT WHEEL WAS NO LONGER STABLE OR HELD IN PROPER GEOMETRY. THIS CREATED A VERY HAZARDOUS SAFETY RELATED ISSUE WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AS I WAS AWARE OF THE STRUT TOWER DEFECT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT MY STRUT TOWER WAS NOT CORRODED AND COULD BE REPAIRED ALTHOUGH THE FAILURE TO THE FRAME ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. INFINITY WAS CONTACTED AND EVALUATED 3 PHOTOS SENT BY THE DEALER. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS NOT A DEFECT AND THAT I LIVE IN THE SALT BELT. IM NO ROCKET SCIENTIST BUT THAT'S WHY THE STRUT TOWER RECALL WAS ISSUED IN THE SALT BELT STATES, (CORROSION). PREVIOUS RECALL FOR CORROSION OF THE FUEL FILL TUBE. I BELIEVE A PATTERN IS EMERGING. MY RESEARCH REVEALED THAT OTHER VEHICLES OF THIS TYPE ARE EXHIBITING THE SAME FAILURE AND HAVE BEEN MET WITH DEAF EARS AT INFINITY MOTOR DIVISION. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. THE LEFT SIDE FRAME WAS IN NORMAL CONDITION AND EXPOSED TO THE SAME SALT AND ELEMENTS AS THE RIGHT SIDE. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SIDES IS THE AIR CONDITIONING DRAIN IS DIRECTLY OVER THE FAILURE SITE ALLOWING WATER TO CONSTANTLY CONTACT THE FRAME WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING IS USED. *TR

THE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED AND THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE FRAME WAS REPAIRED. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE RUNNING BOARDS WERE ALSO REPAIRED DUE TO CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD INTERMITTENTLY BECOME STUCK IN A PARTIALLY DEPRESSED POSITION. IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE PEDAL, THE CONTACT WOULD APPLY EXCESSIVE PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AS WELL AS THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED FOR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 198,000.

THE HOLE THEY FOUND WAS THE SIZE OF MY FIST LOCATED ON THE FRAME DIRECTLY BEHIND THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS SOLD TO ME 5 MONTHS PREVIOUS FROM A FORD DEALERSHIP WITH A SMALL WARRANTY. THE FRAME ISSUE WAS NOT DISCLOSED AT TIME OF SALE. THE VEHICLE HAD PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS SUCH AS WOBBLING AND SHAKING AFTER 55 MPH. I HAD PURCHASED NEW TIRES HOPING TO ALLEVIATE PROBLEM AS THE CAR WAS SOLD WITH UNACCEPTABLE TREAD ON ALL FOUR TIRES.

CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER HOTLINE AND THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE SINCE NO INJURIES HAVE YET TO BE REPORTED. THERE IS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION # PE11004 FOR THIS DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM HAD RUSTED AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE CORROSION. THE DEALER STATED THAT IF THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN, HE COULD HAVE EXPERIENCED A DEADLY CRASH. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND THE CONTACT WAS PAID CASH TO JUNK THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,600.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE A FRAME HAD ROTTED OUT NEAR THE STRUTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE STEERING SHAFT ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE CONTACT STATED HE ADVISED THE DEALER THAT THE A FRAME WAS ROTTED AND WAS PUSHING AGAINST THE STEERING SHAFT, CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 215,000.

HE CALLED THE MAIN CORPORATION AND WAS INFORMED THAT HE NEEDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE MAIN NISSAN DEALER THAT WAS APPROXIMATELY 160 MILES ROUND TRIP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE COULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE THAT FAR. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 115,000.

- Consequence: THE STRUT HOUSING MAY CRACK AND PULL AWAY FROM THE INNER HOOD LEDGE ASSEMBLY. THIS MAY LEAD TO GRINDING NOISES, INCREASED STEERING EFFORT, AND POSSIBLY THE STEERING COLUMN TO BREAK, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
- Remedy: NISSAN WILL INSPECT THE STRUT HOUSING AND REPAIR THE VEHICLES AS NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. AN INTERIM NOTIFICATION LETTER WAS SENT OUT IN MAY 2011. THE SECOND NOTICE WAS MAILED ON JULY 25, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

HOWEVER, IN THOSE AREAS OF THE COUNTRY WHICH USE HEAVY CONCENTRATIONS OF ROAD SALT IN THE WINTER, IF A MIXTURE OF SNOW/WATER AND SALT MAKES CONTACT WITH THE BARE METAL, CORROSION MAY OCCUR TO A DEGREE WHICH RESULTS IN PERFORATION OF THE TUBE. IN THIS CASE FUEL LEAKAGE MAY OCCUR WHEN FILLING THE TANK. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

I got a Qx4 when I started school, it had 280,000 km on at at that time. I drove it for three years without doing any maintenance at all except wiper blades. It was at 320 then, and I had to get the front brakes done. While I was there the mechanic said I should get the timing belt done too, he said they are supposed to be done every 100k and this one had never been replaced. After finishing school, I decided to drive it until it died and then buy a new car. Three years went by and it never died. I only had to replace one oxygen sensor and they fiddled with a wire once because of a nock sensor. I sold it 2 weeks ago at 367k (kilometers) and I can't believe how it held its value!

I bought this SUV used about 2 years ago with 77,000 miles on it. Since then, I've put about 39,000 miles on it and it's been a great ride. I've only had to replace the tires and change the oil, but it still runs like new. I use it for work and it takes a beating, but it still looks and feels like a luxury SUV. When I'm ready to upgrade, I'll definitely consider the newer version. With a new set of tires, I'm now getting about 17 mpg, which is an improvement from the 15 mpg I was getting before. Overall, this is one of the best cars I've ever owned!

This car is great, but the oxygen sensors can be a bit of a hassle. With four of them, it can get expensive at $140 each time they need to be replaced. I've already had to change them all, including one twice. It's frustrating to see the 'service engine soon' light come on, especially after just getting the car serviced. On top of that, the 6 CD changer is having some issues, which is surprising for a car with less than 53,000 miles on it.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it used with 109K miles in 2007 and it has been a blast to drive! The car is very comfortable and has a great sound system. It's also great for off-road adventures. However, I must admit that the fuel economy is not the best, averaging about 12-16 MPG. This means it's not ideal for long freeway drives, but rather for short commutes, small towns, and off-road adventures (which it excels at!). I have experienced some reliability issues after 100K miles, with some small and not-so-small parts needing replacement. But overall, it's been a great car. In fact, I once drove it on a very steep uphill, narrow winding mountain road with more than 6 inches of snow and ice, and it handled it like a champ for miles until the snow got really thick (more than 10 inches).
