FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-01
- VIN: KMHHT6KJ3GU
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: My 2016 Genesis coupe will spontaneously, randomly accelerate, full throttle. I can't stop it until I throw it into neutral. There doesn't seem to be any common factor for it to happen. More often it was on the start up but sometimes as I was driving in traffic. The incidents are usually far apart. I have nearly wrecked too many times, so I parked it for good until I find the solution. I won't sell it and cause another person to possibly wreck or injure others. The local Hyundai dealership kept it for two months and test drove it but the problem didn't reoccur. They said nothing showed on the diagnostic (that past history on the diagnostic may have been erased) and they found no incident reports on this. So now I don't have transportation as my old truck is in the shop with transmission issues. Prob from over use. I can't afford to buy a new car until I can sell this one. Anyone know anything? The different occurrence is thorough out 2023 until parked approx April 2024

2016 Hyundai Genesis coupe recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2016 Hyundai Genesis coupe.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2016 Genesis Coupe vehicles. The mounting bolts securing the driver-side frontal air bag may have been insufficiently tightened, potentially causing the air bag to detach from the steering wheel.
- Consequence: A detached driver's air bag increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the mounting bolts and retighten them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 22, 2020. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 192.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
- Components: AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 Genesis Coupe vehicles manufactured December 12, 2008, to June 11, 2016. The electrical harness connector for the front passenger seat Occupant Classification System (OCS) may dislodge when the seat is moved.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, the disconnected OCS would, by default, cause the first stage, and only the first stage, of the air bag to deploy, whether there is a child seat in the front seat and the bag should not deploy or if the crash is severe and both stages should deploy. Either scenario increases the risk of injury to the front seat occupant.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will secure the OCS connector to prevent it from disconnecting, free of charge. Parts are not currently available and a second letter will be sent to owners when parts are available. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 151.

You've done a great job taking care of your car! With 65,000 miles on it, it's impressive how reliable it's been since day one. I noticed that you've been using fully synthetic oil every 5,000 miles and cleaning your intake valves for carbon deposits every 10,000 miles. That's really impressive! I also appreciate how easy you make it sound to clean the valves - just a can of CRC spray and 10 minutes of your time. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I had a 2012 GenCoupe auto that I was disappointed with and traded for this 2013 2.0T Manual which is a huge improvement in performance, economy, interior fit and finish. Having owned 5 mustangs I was ready for a change. I'm really happy with the modern look both inside and out, better suspension, and value for the dollar. I'm glad I made the switch!

I had a 2014 Genesis 2.0 L Turbo coup and I really liked it but I thought it was underpowered. I traded it in on the 3.8 L V6 version, which was much more powerful. I have driven both on some enjoyable long distance vacations (>2000 km). If you enjoy driving, then the Genesis coupe is an excellent choice. It comes with plenty of standard features that are either options or unavailable on its competitors.

This car is quick and super fun to drive. She deserves someone who loves driving her! No flaws.

Depending on mileage and which transmission you get, it's important to have a certified inspection done immediately on the drive train.

This car is a great purchase, with fantastic power, great sounds, and high performance, especially for the price. The sport seats are very comfortable, and the suspension, while stiff, still provides a comfortable ride. The rear seats fold down, which is a huge plus. However, I must report that after one year of ownership, the manual transmission has proven to be problematic due to poor design. The synchronizer rings cause grinding shifts, and the shifter rattles incessantly. I recommend getting the automatic version of this car. If you do choose the manual, make sure you have a warranty and expect to replace it around 60k miles. Overall, this car is a great choice for those looking for a powerful and fun ride.

When I first bought this vehicle at the age of 20, I fell in love with it. Despite my mother's advice to choose something more practical and economical, I went for a performance/sports car. While there are days when I regret my decision, I have learned to deal with it. It's worth noting that the performance is awesome, but the ride can be bumpy. The backseat space is obviously cramped, and the trunk space is small as well. Unfortunately, the technology is lacking, and the Bluetooth connectivity could be much better. Hyundai hasn't manufactured a lightning-compatible iPod cable, and the entertainment display is very dated. Additionally, outward visibility is awful. However, I have the base model, and the upper models are much more luxurious than mine.

I recently purchased a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe with a 6-speed manual transmission. Unfortunately, when I press the clutch, the car makes some unpleasant clanking and rattling noises. I took the car back to the dealership, but they informed me that this is normal. I even tried switching to a different car, but it had the same issue. Despite many complaints from customers, Hyundai does not recognize this as a problem. Overall, I am quite disappointed with this car and would not recommend it to others.

UPDATE after 3 years of ownership: Minor issues have arisen at 130,000 km's, but nothing too serious. Unfortunately, the battery harness collar cracked and it took a while to have the replacement ordered. After that, it's just been routine maintenance. I wouldn't recommend purchasing unless you can get it at a good price and have some mechanical knowledge. The car still looks good and the performance and handling are unchanged. It's a fun car to drive, but reliability can be an issue. UPDATE after 1 year of ownership: At 105,000 kilometers (just over 60K miles), the engine seized while downshifting (automatic transmission), requiring a complete rebuild costing over $11,000 Canadian (USD 8,700). It appears the crank rod bearings failed, and two of my friends had similar issues with their cars. It's frustrating that this happened on a well-maintained vehicle operating under normal conditions. A few irritating squeaks and rattles in the interior dash have also appeared at 125,000 km. Review on Purchase: The Genesis 2.0T is an affordable entry-level sports car, especially when purchased used, delivering good value. I looked at and test drove other cars, such as the BRZ/FRS/86's, but I couldn't get over the lack of horsepower (decent little track cars, but the pickup was a showstopper). The turbo has some lag, but if you control the revs, manually or through sport mode and paddle shifters with the automatic transmission, it's very responsive at lower revs. It definitely has some go to it. The tracking is good, and the steering feel is a bit soft in the middle and numb, but it turns in well and corners consistently. The suspension is marginal, and you should factor in the cost of a decent set of coilovers (I added Bilstein). Road noise isn't great. The cockpit is roomier than competitors (BRZ, FRS/86), gauges and layout are fine, and you can fit someone short in the backseat, but the headroom can be lacking. The touch screen can be frustrating for a 2014 model as it can be unresponsive, and the buttons work better. The aftermarket for parts may not be as extensive as other brands, but intermediate enthusiasts can still find what they're looking for. However, it is important to note that significant shipping costs may be incurred as there is nothing in stock locally (I added a Seibon carbon fiber hood and diffuser plus a basic catback). Surprisingly, it gets a lot of looks and questions from others who don't recognize the brand (pretty much every owner de-badges Hyundai emblems for Genesis). All things considered, it combines good looks, a decent interior, horsepower, reasonable handling, and is a fun car to drive.

I purchased a 2013 Hyundai Genesis three years ago, after trading in my 350Z. Unfortunately, I encountered some issues with the engine, which stopped working at only 62k miles. Despite having some trouble with the warranty company, I am hopeful that I will be able to resolve the issue soon. I took great care of the car, using 10-30 weight during the summer and 5-30 in the winter, and only driving it on weekends, which explains the low mileage. While I have had some difficulties, I believe that the Genesis is still a great car, and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in purchasing one. Of course, it's always important to do your research and make an informed decision. Best of luck!
