2014 Ford Transit connect problems
The Ford Transit Connect is a compact panel van sold by Ford since 2002. Developed by Ford of Europe, the model line replaced sedan-based vans (Ford Escort and Ford Courier vans) with a dedicated commercial vehicle platform. The model line is the second-smallest vehicle of the Ford Transit range, slotted between the Ford Transit Courier LAV and the Ford Transit Custom LCV/MPV. In line with other Ford Transit variants, passenger-oriented models (in Europe) are marketed as the Ford Tourneo Connect with side windows and rear seats.
The first and second-generation Transit Connect has been imported to North America from the 2010 model year. To circumvent the 25% "chicken tax" on imported light trucks, all examples have been imported as passenger vans, with cargo vans converted to the intended configuration after their importation. In the region, the Transit Connect does not have a direct predecessor; the closest vehicle to its size was the standard-length Ford Aerostar cargo van, which ceased production in 1997.
The first-generation Transit Connect was assembled by Ford Otosan (Kocaeli, Turkey) along with Ford Romania (Craiova, Romania). For the second generation, Ford of Europe shifted production to its Ford Valencia Body and Assembly facility (Almussafes, Valencia, Spain). For 2022, a third generation of the Tourneo Connect was released; based on the Volkswagen Caddy, the model line is assembled by Volkswagen in Poland.

Common 2014 Ford Transit connect problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the Ford Transit Connect 2014, several common problems have been reported. Here is a detailed list of these issues:
- Transmission Problems:
- Owners have reported instances of vans losing power and experiencing issues with shifting gears properly. Some have faced challenges in obtaining the necessary parts for transmission repairs due to national backorders. The 2012 model year, in particular, has been highlighted for transmission failures, with reports of the van not shifting gears correctly.
- Ford issued a recall for 192,000 2013-2021 Transit Connects due to a faulty connection between the shifter cable and transmission, which could lead to the van appearing to be in park mode when it isn't. This poses a risk of the vehicle rolling away unexpectedly.
- Engine Failure:
- Some 2016 Transit Connect models have experienced engine failures while driving. Owners have reported issues such as the engine dying, excessive vibrations, erratic gauge readings, and illuminated check engine lights. These problems have been attributed to a faulty throttle body, which can cost between $100 and $900 plus labor to replace.
- Buggy Engine Failsafe Feature:
- Newer Ford Transit Connects, including the 2020 model, were recalled in 2021 due to a buggy engine failsafe feature. This issue could lead to increased temperatures, delays in the engine's cooling strategy, decreased engine power, and an increased risk of fire.
These problems highlight significant concerns with the Ford Transit Connect 2014, particularly related to transmission issues, engine failures, and faulty engine failsafe features. Owners experiencing these issues are advised to have their vehicles inspected by licensed mechanics and take necessary actions to address these safety and performance concerns promptly.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-03
- VIN: NM0LS7EXXE1
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: For starters, about 2-3 days before August 6, 2024 (the day I took my van to Autozone to diagnose my check engine light) my ford transit shot a check engine light due to a "P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire". On August 8, 2024 after dropping my van off once the mechanic opened, around 11:27 AM i received a call from the mechanic I was referred to by the dealership I bought the van from that the car was fixed and ready to go. I was also told by one of the mechanics that work at the shop that the threading on the spark plugs were stripped, these were the original spark plugs that came with the vehicle when i purchased it before the misfire happened. On August 10th after work, my transmission had failed on me and i was not able to park my car, i ended up having to let my car roll back on a hill, blocking a strangers driveway having to call a tow truck around 11pm-12am. After having to wait some time, the same mechanic i was referred to by my dealership called me a day after receiving the new transmission telling me the van was ready. Not only did they try to charge me an extra $200, but the car wouldn't even start once i paid the balance due and tried to leave, and to top it all off there was still a jerk in the transmission every time i tried to put it in drive, the job was rushed. Less than a week later, the van was displaying another check engine light related to the same misfire as before, and also a transmission failure message on my dashboard while on the highway with my dog in the back. I'm a dog trainer and need the vehicle to safely transport animals to and from north to south jersey. I have not been able to do so due to all the complications I've been encountering with the vehicle. I dropped the van off Thursday August 29th and have not received any updates from the same mechanic and it has been 5 days (today's Sept. 3rd). I understand labor day just passed but I was told by the head of the shop that they would look at it Friday Aug 30th & update me asap.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-07
- VIN: NM0LS7E78E1
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Hello. We were passing a tractor trailer on the interstate and at 75 mph the transmission shifted into low gear all by itself. We never went into passing gear just accelerating. The vehicle nosedived, rpm’s went up, blew the transmission fluid out all over the exhaust with major smoke, threw us into the dash, and went to about 5 mph all in about .5 seconds leaving us in the middle of the interstate in 5:00 traffic. Tractor trailers stopped and let us get the vehicle to the side .If my daughter had not been behind us I’m sure one of the tractor trailers would have hit us because my brake lights didn’t come on because I never hit the brakes. The vehicle is sitting in my driveway where it was towed. No one has looked at it and it now has a check engine light on.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-16
- VIN: NM0LS7F70E1

- Summary: Door latches - Took this vehicle into Hopkins Ford Dealer in Elgin IL. The parts aren't in so it is delaying the repair. The main question I have is every time I have a recall I am told I have to wait for the part to break so they can send to Ford as proof in order to get the parts. This does not make sense to me as this is a safety issue am I to wait to get injured because the recalled part finally breaks and then I can use the recall to repair my vehicle?

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-22
- VIN: NM0GE9G78E1
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The tailgate unlocks on its own and becomes unlatched on its own. It is unpredictable but has happened at least once when coming to a stop (still in gear) and once when sitting with the engine off, after having come to a stop. My dogs ride in the back so they could fall out of the vehicle if it occurred while driving; in addition, cargo in the back of the van could fall onto the road if the tailgate came unlatched and opened. I have not taken the van to a dealer because the nearby Ford dealership has a reputation as not being easy to work with, and I don't know who else would be qualified to work on such a problem. The "tailgate open" warnings do occur, when the door unlocks/unlatches. But the lock makes audible noises FREQUENTLY, and it's not always easy to tell if the lock has disengaged or just made a noise.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-06-01
- VIN: NM0AE8F76E1
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: After having the panoramic sunroof replaced in 2019 due to a recall, the roof started leaking again causing mold to grow and making us fear for the structural integrity of the vehicle due to the possibility of unseen rust. The Service Department said it was not related to the original recall and that it was an epoxy failure. We feel this is just a continuance of the original defect and there was another recall about leaking.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-08
- VIN: NM0AE8F79E1
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Vehicle is currently being repaired at a Ford dealer. They have diagnosed the malfunction as a fuel pump failure and have ordered replacement parts. I will ask the service center to save the parts. The vehicle lost power in the fast lane of I5. Traffic was moving at or above the 70 MPH posted speed limit including large trucks. I was able to turn on the 4 way flashers, change lanes, and move the vehicle to the shoulder out of traffic, but the situation could have easily resulted in a collision due to the abrupt loss of power. It was towed to the Ford dealer 15 miles from the incident when it would could not be restarted. Because the shoulder was narrow there was insufficient room for me to safely open the drivers side door and deploy my wheelchair lift and transfer seat to exit the vehicle. It took approximately an hour for AAA to arrive in 100 degree weather. I don't believe the dealer has removed the defective pump yet but they were unable to start the vehicle because of the problem. There was no warning anything was wrong, it simply slowed down and did not respond to giving more gas. Attempts to restart the vehicle on the side of the road resulted in the engine misfiring and rapidly dying. The next morning at the dealer the car turned over OK but did not show any signs of starting. No warning lights were present. This vehicle has only 28,000 miles on it and there are reports of both a Fuel Pump recall on some 2014 Ford Transit Connect Vans, and other early failures on Vans not in the Recall indicating the problem may not be confined within the scope of the original recall.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-04
- VIN: NM0GE9E73E1
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: The drivers door is failing to latch. Ford Dealers have only said there were only recalls on the rear doors. My minivan has the door roped shut for the time being and it is dangerous having to unwrap the rope to exit. Also the smell of fuel inside the vehicle is pronounced and they won't repair the fuel line because I purchased the vehicle used and the previous owner didnt handle it.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-07
- VIN: NM0AE8F70E1

- Summary: 2014 Transit connect LH front door won't latch , this van has 44,000 miles on it I bought it new.. the door will fly open can not drive it like this.. the sliding doors had a recall but not the front doors. door latch fail
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-27
- VIN: NM0GS9F79E1
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: The catalytic converter is stopped up, and that is definitely a safety issue, causing extra heat. In the event of it touching almost anything, it makes it more likely than not that a fire will ensue! This happened on the day that I purchased the Car. Within hours. Dealer is LDT Motors in Amarillo Texaa.

This vehicle performs excellently in almost every category that I have thrown at it. We also own the exact same model from 2013, and by far this van has better acceleration, load space, and features for Sync that are much easier to use than the previous versions. The van now drives like a car than a van and handles like a dream at all speeds. This vehicle is much more stylish than any previous version, and the gas mileage is much better than the model from last year.

I'm so glad to hear that you purchased the Titanium with every option for almost 34k and managed to get it brand new for 24k as a leftover 2014 model. The wagon handles like a car and it's great to hear that you drove it 1800 miles across the south with no issues! The navigation works great with My Ford Touch Sync and the leather heated seats are a nice touch. It's true that the wagon is a hidden treasure that most people don't even know exists! Have you read about the popularity of the Transit in Europe? It's definitely a best kept secret for anyone considering something different from a full size minivan!

Smooth, accurate handling. The light blue-gray accented color really stands out from the white Transit Connect backdrop fleet. The center seat is definitely a plus. I'm very pleased with this very reasonable deal from one of the few private offerings. Thank you!

We bought this van brand new from our local Ford dealer, along with the extended warranty. It's the XLT long wheelbase model, and we've been averaging 26 mpg since we got it for $25,000. My wife has put over 130,000 miles on it, and we're still using the original brakes, which we have inspected at every oil change. The four-cylinder engine delivers good power, and the transmission shifts smoothly. We would definitely buy another one!

We purchased out Transit Connect in 2014 and have enjoyed it tremendously. The seats are exactly the right height for easy sitting and getting out, which is why we chose it. There are two complaints. 1. The plastic covers beside both the driver and passenger seats have broken and had to be replaced. The driver side has broken three times; the passenger side twice. 2. There is insufficient insulation to cut our road noises.Gas mileage is very good. It is easy to drive. Cargo space is wonderful. We have had no work done on the motor at all. It still looks like new!

I purchased this vehicle for its ample cargo space and the A plan, but unfortunately, even with the A plan, I have had a negative experience owning a Ford. Some of my friends joke that Ford stands for 'Fix Or Repair Daily', and unfortunately, my experience has not been much different. The vehicle has spent a significant amount of time at the dealer due to various issues, such as broken door latches, malfunctioning sliding doors, transmission problems, and leaks in the transmission fluid from the axle shaft. Additionally, the rear parking aid and air conditioning have stopped working, and the headlights are not up to par. Despite these issues, I do appreciate the cargo space and the convenience of the two swinging doors. I had hoped that purchasing a new vehicle would prevent any problems while using it for my business, but unfortunately, this has not been the case. I plan to sell the vehicle as soon as the warranty expires.
