2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe problems

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a rear-wheel drive sports coupe from Hyundai Motor Company, first released on October 13, 2008, for the Korean market. It is Hyundai's first rear-wheel drive sports coupe, and shares its basic platform with the Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan.
The Genesis Coupe arrived in United States dealerships on February 26, 2009, as a 2010 model. Hyundai USA acting president and CEO John Krafcik described the Genesis Coupe as being designed "...to deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like the Infiniti G37."
With the launch of Genesis Motors as a standalone luxury brand, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe remained branded as a Hyundai and eventually was discontinued in 2016.

2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:INTERLOCK/LOCKOUT
- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2010-2013 Genesis Coupe vehicles. A return spring in the ignition lock switch may fracture, which can result in unintended vehicle movement when the vehicle is started in gear, without the parking brake applied.
- Consequence: Unintended vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the ignition lock switch, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 4, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 266.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
- Park Out Side: 1
- Park Out Side: 1
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2015 Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Sonata Hybrid, 2012-2015 Accent, Azera, Veloster, 2013-2015 Elantra Coupe, Santa Fe, 2014-2015 Equus, 2010-2012 Veracruz, 2010-2013 Tucson, 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell, and 2013 Santa Fe Sport vehicles. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.
- Consequence: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS fuse, free of charge. - Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
- Components: AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 Genesis Coupe vehicles manufactured December 12, 2008, to June 11, 2016. The electrical harness connector for the front passenger seat Occupant Classification System (OCS) may dislodge when the seat is moved.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, the disconnected OCS would, by default, cause the first stage, and only the first stage, of the air bag to deploy, whether there is a child seat in the front seat and the bag should not deploy or if the crash is severe and both stages should deploy. Either scenario increases the risk of injury to the front seat occupant.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will secure the OCS connector to prevent it from disconnecting, free of charge. Parts are not currently available and a second letter will be sent to owners when parts are available. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 151.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
- Components: SUSPENSION:REAR
- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Genesis Coupe vehicles manufactured December 28, 2011, to April 6, 2015, equipped with manual transmissions. In the affected vehicles, if the differential and the suspension rear crossmember were not properly aligned during vehicle assembly, the bolts that secure the differential may loosen.
- Consequence: If the rear differential loosens from its mounting position, the driveshaft may disconnect from the differential, resulting in a loss of propulsion and an increased risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will verify the proper assembly of the differential, free of charge. The recall began on December 30, 2015. Owners may contact Hyundai's customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 135.

This car is really impressive, from nose to tail. I used to own a 2008 Infiniti G37 Sport, and this car is a very close second to it, in some ways even better. The design is a real head-turner, and the interior is quite comfortable and spacious. The illumination, both inside and outside, is fantastic. Although the sound system could be improved a bit, it still sounds good. The ride is decent, a little rough, and the road noise can be loud, but not overbearing. Compared to the G37, it feels way lighter. Most standard features are the same in both cars, but the Genesis has a little more. I'm leasing this car, and I'm excited to see how the Genesis Coupe progresses in the future. I'm extremely happy I picked this one.

I absolutely adore the Genesis Coupe and cannot find a single fault with it. When I was searching for a car to lease, I was unsure about the make and model, but I knew I wanted something powerful and stylish. After test driving several cars from different dealerships, I still hadn't found 'the one' until I got behind the wheel of the Genesis Coupe. It felt comfortable right away, and even though it had a 4 cylinder engine, it was surprisingly fast and handled turns with ease. The speaker system is great, and the gadgets are easily accessible. I had no problems with it for the three years I leased it, except for one minor issue that was quickly resolved by the dealership. I'm sad to give it up, and if I didn't need a bigger car, I would definitely consider leasing another Genesis or buying this one outright. The only downside is that the gas mileage isn't the best, especially for city driving. I usually only get around 310 miles per fill up, and with an 18 gallon tank, it can cost between £45-£65 depending on gas prices. However, the mileage improves significantly on road trips with mostly highway driving, where I can get well over 400 mpg.The back seat space is not very comfortable for adults, but that is to be expected from a sports car. Additionally, the trunk space is limited, making it difficult to fit larger items. However, after three years, this car still drives like new and is incredibly fun to drive. I have had minimal mechanical issues, with only one minor issue that was quickly fixed by the dealership. Overall, I highly recommend this solid, fast, and fun car.

I purchased this R spec on 3/22/13 and I'm coming up on the first 1000 miles. So far, I absolutely love this car! This is actually our second Hyundai in two years. My wife drives a 2011 Sonata 2.0T and we love that car just as much. The 2.0 direct injected variable valve timing turbo engine is very reliable and with 30k on the Sonata, we haven't had any issues. I was really hoping that Hyundai would put that engine in the Genesis coupe, so when they did, it was a no-brainer for me. That engine paired with a 6-speed manual is really fun to drive and I love the new look of the coupe. I also appreciate the simplicity of a rear-wheel-drive 4-cylinder. As an experienced auto tech with over 30 years of experience, I find this car to be well thought out. I'm looking forward to a long-term relationship with it.

I've owned a 2009, 2011, and now the 2013 coupe, and I must say that this car is the best yet. It has great power, excellent build quality, and is very comfortable. The G37 has all the best features for thousands less, and it comes with a great warranty to boot. I find the stereo to be more than adequate (300 plus watts is more than enough for me), and the navigation and Bluetooth work great. If you're looking for a sports coupe that will leave some money in your bank account, then this is a no-brainer.

You're in for a treat with this ride! It's beautiful, comfortable, and relatively inexpensive. However, there are a few issues with the transmission and waste gate design that can be a bit of a downer. After three thousand miles, you might notice some rattling from the waste gate and grinding from the transmission, which can be a bit concerning. Unfortunately, Hyundai claims that this is normal and won't take any action to address it. Despite this, the ride is still a great value and a joy to be in.

When I first bought this vehicle at the age of 20, I fell in love with it. Despite my mother's advice to choose something more practical and economical, I went for a performance/sports car. While there are days when I regret my decision, I have learned to deal with it. It's worth noting that the performance is awesome, but the ride can be bumpy. The backseat space is obviously cramped, and the trunk space is small as well. Unfortunately, the technology is lacking, and the Bluetooth connectivity could be much better. Hyundai hasn't manufactured a lightning-compatible iPod cable, and the entertainment display is very dated. Additionally, outward visibility is awful. However, I have the base model, and the upper models are much more luxurious than mine.

Hyundai has had some issues with recalls in the past, but it's always important to do your own research. Despite this, the vehicle has great handling capabilities.
