The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a rear-wheel drive sports coupe from Hyundai Motor Company, first released on October 13, 2008, for the Korean market. It is Hyundai's first rear-wheel drive sports coupe, and shares its basic platform with the Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan.

The Genesis Coupe arrived in United States dealerships on February 26, 2009, as a 2010 model. Hyundai USA acting president and CEO John Krafcik described the Genesis Coupe as being designed "...to deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like the Infiniti G37."

With the launch of Genesis Motors as a standalone luxury brand, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe remained branded as a Hyundai and eventually was discontinued in 2016.

2024-07-25
  • Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:INTERLOCK/LOCKOUT
  • Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2010-2013 Genesis Coupe vehicles. A return spring in the ignition lock switch may fracture, which can result in unintended vehicle movement when the vehicle is started in gear, without the parking brake applied.
  • Consequence: Unintended vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will replace the ignition lock switch, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 4, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 266.
2023-09-22
  • Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
  • Park Out Side: 1
  • Park Out Side: 1
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
  • Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2015 Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Sonata Hybrid, 2012-2015 Accent, Azera, Veloster, 2013-2015 Elantra Coupe, Santa Fe, 2014-2015 Equus, 2010-2012 Veracruz, 2010-2013 Tucson, 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell, and 2013 Santa Fe Sport vehicles. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.
  • Consequence: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024 through October 11, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 251.
2016-10-07
  • Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
  • Components: AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
  • Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 Genesis Coupe vehicles manufactured December 12, 2008, to June 11, 2016. The electrical harness connector for the front passenger seat Occupant Classification System (OCS) may dislodge when the seat is moved.
  • Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, the disconnected OCS would, by default, cause the first stage, and only the first stage, of the air bag to deploy, whether there is a child seat in the front seat and the bag should not deploy or if the crash is severe and both stages should deploy. Either scenario increases the risk of injury to the front seat occupant.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will secure the OCS connector to prevent it from disconnecting, free of charge. Parts are not currently available and a second letter will be sent to owners when parts are available. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 151.
2013-04-01
  • Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Company
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
  • Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
  • Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

Negative 2011 Hyundai Genesis coupe car reviews

  1. Dax Hansen 2024-11-05

The car is certainly eye-catching and enjoyable to drive, but unfortunately, I have experienced several issues with it. Specifically, I have had multiple transmission problems, including a total replacement at only 4200 miles. Additionally, the traction control can be unreliable, and the Bluetooth radio is not very user-friendly, taking up to 15 minutes to sync and allow calls. The paint on the hood also required some attention due to its softness, and the speedometer is not always accurate. Despite my attempts to address these issues with Hyundai, they have not been fully resolved. Overall, I would not recommend this vehicle, and I am currently pursuing legal action under the lemon law.

  2. Orlando Kuvalis 2024-09-05

Better than the Tiburon! The only problem I've had is pin holes in the transmission cooler, but other than that, no problems. It's so fun to drive that I plan on keeping it. I grew up driving Mopar muscle, then Supras, and now this.

  3. Carlo Sauer 2024-08-23

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I purchased it brand new with only 30 miles on the odometer. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the transmission grinding on 2nd and 3rd gear. The dealer replaced it under warranty at 1500 miles, but the problem persisted even after several trips to the dealer. I reached out to consumer affairs, but have not received a response yet. I would recommend doing some research before purchasing this car, as I have found that many customers have had the same issue and Hyundai has not yet found a fix. According to the 2010 brochure, the car has triple-cone synchronizers on first through third gears to ensure smooth and durable shifting, but in my experience, it has not been smooth at all. I hope this information is helpful to you!

  4. Kamryn Skiles 2024-07-20

The interior, door panels, arm rest, and glove box door may leave marks that are difficult to remove. The factory is currently investigating this issue. We understand that this may be a concern for our customers and we are working to improve the quality of our products.

  5. Jarvis Ondricka 2024-06-27

Although there are some positives, such as its speed, I found the comfort to be lacking. This was my main complaint, as I had to keep changing my position after just 4 hours. Additionally, the side support was poor and the gas mileage was not as good as I had hoped, with the best I could achieve being 28 mpg on the highway. When compared to a V6 Accord or Camry, which can provide better performance and above 32 mpg, it is clear that the motor is not very efficient. Perhaps I should have bought a V6 Accord Coupe instead. While I initially thought it was quick, I was surprised when a Mini Cooper S was able to catch up to me at full throttle. Overall, it serves its purpose as a daily commuting vehicle.

Positive 2011 Hyundai Genesis coupe car reviews

  1. Carlo Nolan 2025-01-04

Long road trips can be quite tiring, but this car makes it a lot more bearable. Although the interior materials feel a bit cheap and plasticky, the car is surprisingly roomy, especially in the front seats. As a 6 foot 2 individual, I had plenty of space to enjoy my fast and furious soundtrack. Even my dad, who is a bit more 'healthy', found the race-like seats to be firm and comfortable. The car has 300HP, but I feel like it could make better use of that power in the higher gears. However, the MPG has been much better than I expected. On a drive home from an overnight party with the A.C. on and windows down, I managed to get 31.3 MPG without even trying. Overall, this is a great car for the price. It looks and sounds great, and it's fast compared to an RX8 or a Civic. If you're looking for good performance out of the box, I recommend the 3.8 motor because it's strong and capable without being dangerous for young drivers. Tuners may prefer the 2.0 turbo model because there's plenty of aftermarket support to make it even faster than the 3.8. Keep in mind that the suspension is quite stiff, but if you're considering this car, you probably already have a high tolerance for back pain.

  2. Murphy Marquardt 2024-11-28

Love it! It's not perfect, BUT great torque and pick-up. Accelerates very quickly. With respect to driving experience, the only thing I've noticed is that it can sometimes be a little slow to respond when coming out of a dead stop. It's like it takes an extra second or two before it realizes it needs to go and once that happens the car moves very quickly. Wish it were a little more responsive. Looks great, VERY sexy. I've gotten compliments from co-workers and friends! (very cynical people)

  3. Jamey McKenzie 2024-11-16

I had it for exactly a month and a half and it's been great! While I could've gone for a used BMW, G35, 350Z, etc. for the same price, I really wanted a new car. Even though I have the 2.0T model which isn't the fastest, I still have a lot of fun driving it. In my opinion, the interior is extremely driver friendly. Since not too many people are aware of this model, I get a lot of attention and comments when I get in or out of the car.

  4. Laverna Greenfelder 2024-11-13

I've only had this car for a short while, but I must say that everything about it has exceeded my high expectations. For Hyundai's first venture into the performance arena, the Genesis Coupe is a stellar debut. The Infiniti G37, with comparable equipment, is listed at over $10K more, and the only real edge I'd give the G37 is in the aesthetics of the interior design. The Gennie Coupe is comfortable, quick off the line, nimble in maneuvering, and very stylish. Talk about turning heads on the road! I would definitely recommend it as a quality performance car that represents a clearly superior value to anything in its price range, and it can compete with others priced several thousand dollars more.

  5. Noel Turner 2024-11-12

The car performs and handles excellently, but the ride quality and road noise are not up to par. I personally own a 1968 RS/SS Camaro that rides better. During a 400-mile drive on the interstate, I was not impressed with the quality of the ride and the amount of road noise. Unfortunately, when I contacted the dealer, they were not willing to take it back without a $10,000.00 hit. Overall, I would not recommend this car and suggest sticking to American sports cars.
