Hyundai Genesis coupe problems

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a rear-wheel drive sports coupe from Hyundai Motor Company, first released on October 13, 2008, for the Korean market. It is Hyundai's first rear-wheel drive sports coupe, and shares its basic platform with the Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan.
The Genesis Coupe arrived in United States dealerships on February 26, 2009, as a 2010 model. Hyundai USA acting president and CEO John Krafcik described the Genesis Coupe as being designed "...to deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like the Infiniti G37."
With the launch of Genesis Motors as a standalone luxury brand, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe remained branded as a Hyundai and eventually was discontinued in 2016.

Common Hyundai Genesis coupe problems
Based on complaints from owners of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, common problems with these cars include:
- Water Leaks: Owners have reported issues with water leaks in various areas of the car, such as sunroof drain lines, rear quarter windows, and taillight seals. Water leaks can lead to wet floors and trunk areas, potentially causing damage and discomfort.
- Paint Chipping and Flaking: A prevalent problem, especially with the 2013 model year, is paint chipping and flaking. This issue not only affects the aesthetics of the vehicle but can also lead to rust and further deterioration if not addressed promptly.
- AC Interior Squeaks: Some owners have experienced interior squeaks related to the air conditioning system. These noises can be bothersome and indicate underlying issues with the AC components that may require attention to prevent further problems.
- Acceleration Sound: Another reported problem is an acceleration sound, which could be indicative of issues with the engine or transmission. Unusual sounds during acceleration can signal mechanical issues that need to be diagnosed and repaired to ensure the car's optimal performance.
These common problems with the Hyundai Genesis Coupe cars highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to any issues that arise to ensure the longevity and reliability of the vehicle.

- Date Complaint: 2024-10-16
- VIN: KMHHT6KJ3GU
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: My 2016 Genesis coupe will spontaneously, randomly accelerate, full throttle. I can't stop it until I throw it into neutral. There doesn't seem to be any common factor for it to happen. More often it was on the start up but sometimes as I was driving in traffic. The incidents are usually far apart. I have nearly wrecked too many times, so I parked it for good until I find the solution. I won't sell it and cause another person to possibly wreck or injure others. The local Hyundai dealership kept it for two months and test drove it but the problem didn't reoccur. They said nothing showed on the diagnostic (that past history on the diagnostic may have been erased) and they found no incident reports on this. So now I don't have transportation as my old truck is in the shop with transmission issues. Prob from over use. I can't afford to buy a new car until I can sell this one. Anyone know anything? The different occurrence is thorough out 2023 until parked approx April 2024

Hyundai Genesis coupe 2010
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-15
- Date Complaint: 2023-07-06
- VIN: KMHHU6KH4AU
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The brakes on my 2010 Genesis Coupe suddenly stopped working while on the freeway, luckily I was able to swerve into the carpool lane and avoid an accident. Upon taking it to Tuttle Click Hyundai I was told a master technician had to review it, which would cost $200 just to look at it. When the technician looked at the car, I was told it needed a new Brake Booster. Hyundai apparently no longer makes this part so the dealership had to locate an aftermarket replacement which costs about $1,100. I did note to the dealership that there was recalls on other 2010 Genesis cars for similar issues, but was told the recall was for the sedans, not the coupe and that they/Hyundai would not cover it. Upon installing the brake booster and bleeding the brakes, it was found that I also need a new ABS Module, which will cost up to $4,000 to find and install. Another user posted this same issue to the NHTSA in October 2022.

- Date Complaint: 2023-06-18
- VIN: KMHHT6KD3AU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The 2.0T engine failed and the vehicle is currently at Hyundai service department waiting on my warranty company to do an inspection of the engine. My safety was at risk as the engine failed during normal operation of the vehicle on a busy city street near a blind curve which other vehicles travel at high rates of speed. Hyundai Service department has confirmed the engine has failed which it needs to be replaced/rebuilt. Hyundai Service department has inspected the vehicle. Waiting on inspection from warranty company. There were no warning lights or symptoms prior to the engine failure. Thankfully I was not operating the vehicle on the expressway as I normally do on my way home which could have put me in a much more dangerous scenario when the engine failed. When the engine failed it started to effect other components in the vehicle, as I started to completely lose the ability to maneuver the vehicle putting myself in a dangerous situation.

- Date Complaint: 2022-10-03
- VIN: KMHHT6KD3AU
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: On September 22, 2022 while traveling at about 65 mph on state highway 57 in CA, I came upon a sudden group of cars hitting their brakes and had to slam on my brakes but my 2010 Genesis Coupe did not stop and I had to swerve into an entrance lane on my right to avoid a serious collision. Fortunately there were no cars entering the highway on that entrance. I was then able to drive a short distance home. On May 26, 2022 I had my car serviced including the brakes by Service Auto Care and my car gave me no brake problems until this incident. On September 23 I brought my Genesis Coupe to Service Auto and explained what happened. The brakes worked fine on the way to the shop. They tested the brakes and said that the ABS module was defective but it was just put under a 15 year extended warranty by Hyundai on May 19, 2022 and to take it to the closest dealer. The dealer, Russell Westbrook Hyundai of Anaheim told me only the sedan was covered. This dangerous defect could occur at any time and cause a severe accident. I hope this report is helpful to the NHTSA and the defective part is replaced without charge. The dealership charged me $205 for an estimate, then wanted $2200 to re-do the brakes and then approximately $4000 to replace the ABS module. I have documents to back up everything I have presented.

I bought this car almost new with only 4300 miles on it, and now, five years later with 74k miles, I can say it has been a reliable ride. I've only had to replace the tires twice with Michelin SuperSports, every 25k miles, and the front Brembo pads with Hawk HPS at 50k. Regular oil changes every 4-5k miles have kept it running smoothly. The seats are comfortable and well-bolstered, and the suspension is tight and taut, making for a fun and engaging driving experience, although it can be a bit unforgiving on bumps. The 6-speed MT is a joy to drive, even if the clutch is a bit truck-like. The trunk is reasonably sized, although the opening is a bit limiting. The interior materials are of high quality, and the 360-degree visibility is excellent, although a camera would have been a nice addition. The entertainment/GPS system is typical for its time, but unfortunately, the Bluetooth stopped working at 65k. The A/C is still excellent, and the warranty is outstanding. Overall, I wish they still made cars like this one!

Firstly, I have only owned 4-door sedans with all-wheel drive (AWD) and turbo. If you are transitioning from that kind of rally platform, this might be a bit tricky for you as this car is rear-wheel driven (RWD). However, there are many positives to this platform. The Genesis doesn't handle like those other platforms - you don't drive the car in that sense, it drives you. You can trust the vehicle with all its electronics (e.g. safety, track control) and also the entering and exiting of turns. The rear window feels like driving a 350z or 370z where the visibility is incredibly low. Nevertheless, if you are transitioning from that platform, there are way more positives than there are negatives. The interior is amazing if you get the Grand Touring 3.8. It has leather seats, navigation, amazing sound, and everything is customizable from the screen. The driver's seat is adjustable to your height and comfort. The passenger has a lot of room, plenty of foot space, and if they wanted to be on their laptop, it's very spacious for them. However, I can't say the same for the rear seats. There's seating room but not too much space, but what do you expect? It's a 2-door coupe. You should be lucky there are even seats back there. This car is fun, fast, and very affordable.

As someone who previously owned a 2010 coupe, I can confidently say that Hyundai has truly outdone themselves with the improvements made to this car, both inside and out. It's clear that Hyundai has taken the feedback from earlier owner surveys seriously, and their efforts have paid off in making them a strong competitor in today's market.

It's a really fun little car for the price, despite a few glitches, especially the rev hang. It sounds great with an exhaust - I have a Tsudo on mine and it sounds deep and fantastic. The gas mileage around town is 26.2 and on the highway it's 33.1, but it can go lower if you drive aggressively. I love the looks of it. The transmission on the manual could have a better feel, but an aftermarket bushing replacement helps take it out. A computer flash helps with the rev hang, but unfortunately, it doesn't eliminate it. The Infinity sound system sounds great for a factory radio and sub. The later models got an increase in power, but I don't like the front fascia and fake hood vents. People often put down Hyundai, but to each their own. I, for one, enjoy the vehicle and like having something that I don't see every day. It's a cheap entry vehicle with potential. BTR created a 4-banger that pushes 850whp, so for those who want to tune, this car is perfect. I have a Subaru for my winter driving and muscle cars for my other vehicles, but I still get a smile on my face driving the Hyundai, especially when I hit 3000rpm and that turbo hits in hard.

Thanks for considering this car! It's a real road racer with great handling, super performance, good looks, and good fuel economy. You can expect 17MPG around town and 27MPG on the highway. If you opt for the Premium version, you'll get a sunroof and navigation, among other extras. While this car is electronically limited to 150+MPH, I can personally vouch for its ability to reach 135. Just be careful not to get a speeding ticket! This car is definitely meant to be driven and has plenty of trunk space for two people. However, it's important to note that it may not be the best choice for families with children, as the back seat is not designed for adults and can be a pain to install a baby seat in. Thanks again for considering this exciting car!

The 2013 2.0T premium model may experience a rattling sound emanating from the turbo waste, which has been reported by several owners. Despite Hyundai's refusal to address the issue, it is important to note that this is not a normal occurrence. The loose washers on a bolt sound can be quite unpleasant to hear. It is unfortunate that some owners have had negative experiences with their vehicles, but it is important to note that this is not representative of all Hyundai models. It is always advisable to consult with a certified mechanic to address any issues with your vehicle.

This car is a great purchase, with fantastic power, great sounds, and high performance, especially for the price. The sport seats are very comfortable, and the suspension, while stiff, still provides a comfortable ride. The rear seats fold down, which is a huge plus. However, I must report that after one year of ownership, the manual transmission has proven to be problematic due to poor design. The synchronizer rings cause grinding shifts, and the shifter rattles incessantly. I recommend getting the automatic version of this car. If you do choose the manual, make sure you have a warranty and expect to replace it around 60k miles. Overall, this car is a great choice for those looking for a powerful and fun ride.

You're in for a treat with this ride! It's beautiful, comfortable, and relatively inexpensive. However, there are a few issues with the transmission and waste gate design that can be a bit of a downer. After three thousand miles, you might notice some rattling from the waste gate and grinding from the transmission, which can be a bit concerning. Unfortunately, Hyundai claims that this is normal and won't take any action to fix it. Despite this, it's still a great ride that you'll enjoy!

The 2013 2.0T premium model may experience a rattling sound emanating from the turbo waste, which can be concerning. Despite this, Hyundai has declined to address the issue, citing it as normal. It is understandable that this may be frustrating for owners who have experienced this issue. It is important to note that this is not a reflection of the overall quality of the vehicle. It is unfortunate that some owners have had negative experiences, but it is important to remember that every car model has its own unique issues. It is recommended that owners seek professional advice to address this issue. It is important to maintain a positive outlook and not let this issue detract from the overall enjoyment of owning a Hyundai vehicle.

Hello everyone, I just wanted to share my experience with this car. I absolutely love it, but unfortunately, I recently had an issue with the Transmission Pan. Despite it being made of plastic, the cost to replace it was unexpectedly high, and the warranty did not cover it. I was frustrated and had to dip into my savings to pay the $1238.00 bill. I hope this information helps others who may encounter a similar situation.
