The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a rear-wheel drive sports coupe from Hyundai Motor Company, first released on October 13, 2008, for the Korean market. It is Hyundai's first rear-wheel drive sports coupe, and shares its basic platform with the Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan.

The Genesis Coupe arrived in United States dealerships on February 26, 2009, as a 2010 model. Hyundai USA acting president and CEO John Krafcik described the Genesis Coupe as being designed "...to deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like the Infiniti G37."

With the launch of Genesis Motors as a standalone luxury brand, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe remained branded as a Hyundai and eventually was discontinued in 2016.

Common 2014 Hyundai Genesis coupe problems

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2014 has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. One of the most frequently mentioned issues is related to the clutch and drivetrain

. This problem can manifest as a slipping clutch, which may require replacement at a relatively low mileage, around 60,000 miles. The issue might have been caused by the previous owner's driving style, but it is essential to check the clutch's condition when purchasing a used Genesis Coupe or if you already own one. A stage one clutch kit or stage two clutch kit could be a solution, depending on the car's specific condition.

Another problem area is the traction control system, which has been criticized for being too aggressive and cutting all power when traction is lost

. This can lead to a complete loss of control and a dead stop, which is not helpful in many driving situations. The traction control system in the Hyundai Genesis Coupe is known to be particularly sensitive, cutting power even in rainy conditions or when spinning the wheels slightly on dry roads. This can be frustrating for drivers, as turning the traction control off is the only solution.

The tail light housings in the 2013-2016 Genesis Coupe models, including the 2014 model, have a gasket behind them that seals off the trunk

. If the tail lights are removed and reinstalled, the gaskets may fail, allowing water to enter the trunk. This can lead to water accumulation in the trunk, potentially damaging the rear seat and electronics. To avoid this issue, it is recommended to replace the gaskets with new ones if the tail lights are removed.

In addition to these specific issues, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2014 has been reported to have general reliability concerns. Consumer Reports provides reliability information based on extensive survey data and expert technical knowledge, indicating how models have performed in the past and predicting how they will hold up in the future. The Genesis Coupe has been reported to have issues in various areas, such as the engine, transmission, brakes, power equipment, and electrical system.

Some common problems reported by owners include faulty speakers, paint chipping, and rattling noises while driving. These issues can affect the overall driving experience and the car's value. While the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2014 offers impressive performance and styling, it is essential to be aware of these common problems to make an informed decision when purchasing or maintaining this vehicle.

2023-09-22
  • Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
  • Park Out Side: 1
  • Park Out Side: 1
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
  • Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2015 Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Sonata Hybrid, 2012-2015 Accent, Azera, Veloster, 2013-2015 Elantra Coupe, Santa Fe, 2014-2015 Equus, 2010-2012 Veracruz, 2010-2013 Tucson, 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell, and 2013 Santa Fe Sport vehicles. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.
  • Consequence: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024 through October 11, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 251.
2016-10-07
  • Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
  • Components: AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
  • Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 Genesis Coupe vehicles manufactured December 12, 2008, to June 11, 2016. The electrical harness connector for the front passenger seat Occupant Classification System (OCS) may dislodge when the seat is moved.
  • Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, the disconnected OCS would, by default, cause the first stage, and only the first stage, of the air bag to deploy, whether there is a child seat in the front seat and the bag should not deploy or if the crash is severe and both stages should deploy. Either scenario increases the risk of injury to the front seat occupant.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will secure the OCS connector to prevent it from disconnecting, free of charge. Parts are not currently available and a second letter will be sent to owners when parts are available. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 151.
2015-11-16
  • Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
  • Components: SUSPENSION:REAR
  • Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Genesis Coupe vehicles manufactured December 28, 2011, to April 6, 2015, equipped with manual transmissions. In the affected vehicles, if the differential and the suspension rear crossmember were not properly aligned during vehicle assembly, the bolts that secure the differential may loosen.
  • Consequence: If the rear differential loosens from its mounting position, the driveshaft may disconnect from the differential, resulting in a loss of propulsion and an increased risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will verify the proper assembly of the differential, free of charge. The recall began on December 30, 2015. Owners may contact Hyundai's customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 135.

Negative 2014 Hyundai Genesis coupe car reviews

  1. Ali Hamill 2025-04-01

You're in for a treat with this ride! It's beautiful, comfortable, and relatively inexpensive. However, there are a few issues with the transmission and waste gate design that can be a bit of a downer. After three thousand miles, you might notice some rattling from the waste gate and grinding from the transmission, which can be a bit concerning. Unfortunately, Hyundai claims that this is normal and won't take any action to fix it. Despite this, it's still a great ride that you'll enjoy!

  2. Isaiah Hoppe 2024-08-28

I purchased a 2013 Hyundai Genesis three years ago, after trading in my 350Z. Unfortunately, I encountered some issues with the engine, which stopped working at only 62k miles. Despite having some trouble with the warranty company, I am hopeful that I will be able to resolve the issue soon. I took great care of the car, using 10-30 weight during the summer and 5-30 in the winter, and only driving it on weekends, which explains the low mileage. While I have had some difficulties, I believe that the Genesis is still a great car, and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in purchasing one. Of course, it's always important to do your research and make an informed decision. Best of luck!

I hope someone else buys these cars. I never will again.

  4. Jaydon Johnston 2024-06-25

Hyundai has had some issues with recalls in the past, but it's always important to do your own research. Despite this, the vehicle has great handling capabilities.

  5. Kameron White 2024-05-08

I recently purchased a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe with a 6-speed manual transmission. Unfortunately, when I press the clutch, the car makes some unpleasant clanking and rattling noises. I took the car back to the dealership, but they informed me that this is normal. I even tried switching to a different car, but it had the same issue. Despite many complaints from customers, Hyundai does not recognize this as a problem. Overall, I am quite disappointed with this car and would not recommend it to others.

Positive 2014 Hyundai Genesis coupe car reviews

  1. Rowan Brown 2025-06-22

I was looking for a sporty, reliable, and affordable car and after a lot of research, I found that the Genesis Coupe was the perfect fit for me. I am extremely happy with my decision. I compared it to other cars like the FR-S, BRZ, Mini Coppers, and 328i, but the Genesis Coupe had more power and was more affordable to maintain than the 328i. Although the Infinity speakers are not as nice as what I'm used to, they are still decent. The back seat is a bit cramped, but that's to be expected with a car like this. The trunk space is decent for a car of this size and the power is amazing with minimal lag when accelerating. The car looks awesome too, with a white exterior and black and tan interiors (tan leather seats). People are always coming up to me and asking about it, and they can't believe it's a Hyundai. I also added wing badges which adds to the car's appeal.

  2. Charles Ebert 2025-06-12

Thanks for considering this car! It's a real road racer with great handling, super performance, good looks, and good fuel economy. You can expect 17MPG around town and 27MPG on the highway. If you opt for the Premium version, you'll get a sunroof and navigation, among other extras. While this car is electronically limited to 150+MPH, I can personally vouch for its ability to reach 135. Just be careful not to get a speeding ticket! This car is definitely meant to be driven and has plenty of trunk space for two people. However, it's important to note that it may not be the best choice for families with children, as the back seat can be a bit of a pain to install a baby seat and isn't designed for adults. Thanks again for considering this exciting car!

  3. Tanner Padberg 2025-05-17

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my car. When I bought it new, I had never seen this model before, but I was pleasantly surprised by its reliability, good performance, affordability, and eye-catching design. Although I've had some minor issues with the paint flaking/peeling on the front bumper and rear fender, overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. The interior is fairly standard, but I do appreciate the tan-colored seats that come with the GT model. When I first got the car, people were impressed by the LED DRL, which was a relatively new feature in 2013. However, I do wish that the headlights were HID instead of halogen. Despite this, I would still give the car a 4-star rating. My only concern is the resale value, as Hyundai is not typically considered a high-end brand. I should also mention that after about a year, I gave the car to my wife, who absolutely loves it. However, she did have a bit of trouble adjusting to the horsepower and ended up getting a few speeding tickets. Thanks for listening!

  4. Fidel Legros 2025-04-02

I bought this car almost new with only 4300 miles on it, and now, five years later with 74k miles, I can say it has been a reliable ride. I've only had to replace the tires twice with Michelin SuperSports, every 25k miles, and the front Brembo pads with Hawk HPS at 50k. Regular oil changes every 4-5k miles have kept it running smoothly. The seats are comfortable and well-bolstered, and the suspension is tight and taut, making for a fun and engaging driving experience, although it can be a bit unforgiving on bumps. The 6-speed MT is a joy to drive, even if the clutch is a bit truck-like. The trunk is reasonably sized, although the opening is a bit limiting. The interior materials are of high quality, and the 360-degree visibility is excellent, although a camera would have been a nice addition. The entertainment/GPS system is typical for its time, but unfortunately, the Bluetooth stopped working at 65k. The A/C is still excellent, and the warranty is outstanding. Overall, I wish they still made cars like this one!

  5. Benedict Russel 2025-02-13

I bought this car brand new in June of 2012 and have not had a single issue with it. Despite putting a little over 80000 miles on it, it is still going strong. Although there are some annoying rattles in the interior, both the exterior paint and interior are holding up exceptionally well. It gets great gas mileage and is pretty comfortable for road trips, even for my 6'2 and 230 lb frame. Overall, I think it was worth the money.
