2014 Hyundai Genesis coupe problems
The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is a rear-wheel drive sports coupe from Hyundai Motor Company, first released on October 13, 2008, for the Korean market. It is Hyundai's first rear-wheel drive sports coupe, and shares its basic platform with the Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan.
The Genesis Coupe arrived in United States dealerships on February 26, 2009, as a 2010 model. Hyundai USA acting president and CEO John Krafcik described the Genesis Coupe as being designed "...to deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like the Infiniti G37."
With the launch of Genesis Motors as a standalone luxury brand, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe remained branded as a Hyundai and eventually was discontinued in 2016.

Common 2014 Hyundai Genesis coupe problems
The Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2014 has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. One of the most frequently mentioned issues is related to the clutch and drivetrain
. This problem can manifest as a slipping clutch, which may require replacement at a relatively low mileage, around 60,000 miles. The issue might have been caused by the previous owner's driving style, but it is essential to check the clutch's condition when purchasing a used Genesis Coupe or if you already own one. A stage one clutch kit or stage two clutch kit could be a solution, depending on the car's specific condition.
Another problem area is the traction control system, which has been criticized for being too aggressive and cutting all power when traction is lost
. This can lead to a complete loss of control and a dead stop, which is not helpful in many driving situations. The traction control system in the Hyundai Genesis Coupe is known to be particularly sensitive, cutting power even in rainy conditions or when spinning the wheels slightly on dry roads. This can be frustrating for drivers, as turning the traction control off is the only solution.
The tail light housings in the 2013-2016 Genesis Coupe models, including the 2014 model, have a gasket behind them that seals off the trunk
. If the tail lights are removed and reinstalled, the gaskets may fail, allowing water to enter the trunk. This can lead to water accumulation in the trunk, potentially damaging the rear seat and electronics. To avoid this issue, it is recommended to replace the gaskets with new ones if the tail lights are removed.
In addition to these specific issues, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2014 has been reported to have general reliability concerns. Consumer Reports provides reliability information based on extensive survey data and expert technical knowledge, indicating how models have performed in the past and predicting how they will hold up in the future. The Genesis Coupe has been reported to have issues in various areas, such as the engine, transmission, brakes, power equipment, and electrical system.
Some common problems reported by owners include faulty speakers, paint chipping, and rattling noises while driving. These issues can affect the overall driving experience and the car's value. While the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2014 offers impressive performance and styling, it is essential to be aware of these common problems to make an informed decision when purchasing or maintaining this vehicle.

2014 Hyundai Genesis coupe recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2014 Hyundai Genesis coupe.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
- Park Out Side: 1
- Park Out Side: 1
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2015 Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Sonata Hybrid, 2012-2015 Accent, Azera, Veloster, 2013-2015 Elantra Coupe, Santa Fe, 2014-2015 Equus, 2010-2012 Veracruz, 2010-2013 Tucson, 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell, and 2013 Santa Fe Sport vehicles. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.
- Consequence: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024 through October 11, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 251.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
- Components: AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION
- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 Genesis Coupe vehicles manufactured December 12, 2008, to June 11, 2016. The electrical harness connector for the front passenger seat Occupant Classification System (OCS) may dislodge when the seat is moved.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, the disconnected OCS would, by default, cause the first stage, and only the first stage, of the air bag to deploy, whether there is a child seat in the front seat and the bag should not deploy or if the crash is severe and both stages should deploy. Either scenario increases the risk of injury to the front seat occupant.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will secure the OCS connector to prevent it from disconnecting, free of charge. Parts are not currently available and a second letter will be sent to owners when parts are available. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 151.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
- Components: SUSPENSION:REAR
- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Genesis Coupe vehicles manufactured December 28, 2011, to April 6, 2015, equipped with manual transmissions. In the affected vehicles, if the differential and the suspension rear crossmember were not properly aligned during vehicle assembly, the bolts that secure the differential may loosen.
- Consequence: If the rear differential loosens from its mounting position, the driveshaft may disconnect from the differential, resulting in a loss of propulsion and an increased risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will verify the proper assembly of the differential, free of charge. The recall began on December 30, 2015. Owners may contact Hyundai's customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 135.

This car has the same issue as my 2.0t Sonata (same Turbo), and I can confidently say that Hyundai is turning a blind eye to the issue by claiming it is 'normal'. Despite its great looks, the car sounds like a Dodge K car with no oil.

I had a 2012 GenCoupe auto that I was disappointed with and traded for this 2013 2.0T Manual which is a huge improvement in performance, economy, interior fit and finish. Having owned 5 mustangs I was ready for a change. I'm really happy with the modern look both inside and out, better suspension, and value for the dollar. I'm glad I made the switch!

Looking for a sporty car that can still function as your daily driver? The Hyundai could be just what you need! While it doesn't have a hatchback, it's still a great choice. Adding a sunroof would make it even better!

I've owned this car for 6 months and it's been an absolute blast to drive! I even changed the front and back emblems to the wing emblem and it looks fantastic. It's a great coupe for the S!

As someone who previously owned a 2010 coupe, I can confidently say that Hyundai has truly outdone themselves with the improvements made to this car, both inside and out. It's clear that Hyundai has taken the feedback from earlier owner surveys seriously, and their efforts have paid off in making them a strong competitor in today's market.

I purchased a 2013 Hyundai Genesis three years ago, after trading in my 350Z. Unfortunately, I encountered some issues with the engine, which stopped working at only 62k miles. Despite having some trouble with the warranty company, I am hopeful that I will be able to resolve the issue soon. I took great care of the car, using 10-30 weight during the summer and 5-30 in the winter, and only driving it on weekends, which explains the low mileage. While I have had some difficulties, I believe that the Genesis is still a great car, and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in purchasing one. Of course, it's always important to do your research and make an informed decision. Best of luck!

Hyundai has had some issues with recalls in the past, but it's always important to do your own research. Despite this, the vehicle has great handling capabilities.

I recently purchased a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe with a 6-speed manual transmission. Unfortunately, when I press the clutch, the car makes some unpleasant clanking and rattling noises. I took the car back to the dealership, but they informed me that this is normal. I even tried switching to a different car, but it had the same issue. Despite many complaints from customers, Hyundai does not recognize this as a problem. Overall, I am quite disappointed with this car and would not recommend it to others.
