2010 Honda Pilot problems
The Honda Pilot is a mid-size crossover SUV with three-row seating manufactured by Honda since 2002. Primarily aimed at the North American market, the Pilot is the largest SUV produced by Honda. Pilots are currently manufactured in Lincoln, Alabama, and the Pilot was produced in Alliston, Ontario until April 2007. The first generation Pilot was released in April 2002 as a 2003 model.
The Pilot shares its platform with the Acura MDX, as well as the North American market Odyssey minivan. The Pilot's unibody construction and independent suspension are designed to provide handling similar to that of a car, and it has integrated perimeter frame rails to permit towing and light off-road use.
Prior to the introduction of the Pilot, Honda marketed the compact crossover CR-V and the Honda Passport (a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo). The Honda Passport that was sold between 1993 and 2002 was a truck-based design. The Pilot is Honda's largest SUV, although the 2010 Crosstour surpassed the Pilot in length. The Pilot is now currently in its fourth generation, with multiple design changes occurring from getting bigger and resembling a truck to downsizing and becoming sleeker to now a slight mix of both.
The Pilot is sold in North America and the Middle East, while the Honda MDX (first generation Acura MDX) was marketed in Japan and Australia for several years. The second-generation Pilot was also sold in Russia, Ukraine, South Korea, Latin America, and the Philippines.

Common 2010 Honda Pilot problems
The Honda Pilot, a popular SUV known for its spacious interior and powerful V6 engine, has been subject to several common problems throughout its various model years. This article will focus on the 2010 Honda Pilot and its most frequently reported issues.
- Excessive Oil Consumption: Excessive oil consumption is a relatively common issue in the Honda Pilot, particularly in certain model years. This problem is not a significant concern as long as the driver is aware of the issue and regularly checks the oil level. However, low oil levels can cause engine damage and overheating if not addressed.
- Peeling Paint: Peeling paint is primarily a cosmetic issue but can lead to more severe problems if the vehicle is exposed to wet weather or rust-prone environments. This issue may require repainting the vehicle at some point.
- Recurring Fault Codes: Recurring fault codes can be more irritating than dangerous, especially when they hide real problems. These false alarms can cause drivers to ignore legitimate fault codes, potentially leading to unintentional damage to the vehicle.
- Fuel Injector Failure: Fuel injector failures are a common issue in the Honda Pilot, which can be expensive to fix.
- Warped Front Brake Rotors: Warped front brake rotors can cause vibration when braking, which may require more frequent oil changes or brake rotor replacement .
- Wheel Bearing Noise: Wheel bearing noise is a common issue in many vehicles, including the Honda Pilot, and can lead to wheel bearing replacement costs between $270 and $380 .
- Air Conditioner Relay Issues: A stuck air conditioner relay can cause the battery to discharge quickly, leading to air conditioner malfunctions .
- Leaking Struts and Shock Absorbers: Leaking struts and shock absorbers are common issues in heavier vehicles like the Honda Pilot, which may require replacement .
- Bad Lower Control Arm Bushings and Damaged Sway Bar Links: These issues are common in heavier vehicles and can lead to costly repairs .
While the 2010 Honda Pilot has had its share of problems, it remains a popular choice for those seeking a spacious and powerful SUV. Regular maintenance and awareness of these common issues can help ensure a more reliable and enjoyable driving experience.

- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: WE WERE TOLD BY SEVERAL SERVICE TECHNICIANS AT THE WOLFCHASE HONDA IN BARTLETT, TN THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON ALL 2010 HONDA PILOTS, (OURS IS A TOURING FWD), DUE TO A MISS-FIRING ISSUE. WE PURCHASED OUR PILOT 9/2015 AND REPEATEDLY REPORTED THAT THE CAR WAS MISS-FIRING, WHICH CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO APPEAR. WHEN WE TOOK IT IN FOR OIL CHANGES, THE TECHS WOULD TELL US TO DO A GAS TREATMENT, SUCH AS LUCAS (THEY DID IT ONCE THEMSELVES), OR TO CHANGE THE AIR AND CABIN FILTERS. WE DID THAT, AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. UPON EACH OIL CHANGE, THE DEALERSHIP WOULD JUST RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TELL US NOTHING ELSE WAS WRONG. WE HAVE SINCE CHECKED FOR COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB, AND SAW THAT NUMEROUS CONSUMERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE & A LAW SUIT SETTLEMENT . WE HAVE CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA, AND NOW THAT THE RECALL IS OUT OF THEIR TIMEFRAME FOR REPAIRS, (ENDED 10/2017) THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. WE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE PROBLEM EVEN BEFORE THE RECALL PERIOD ENDED, BUT ALL THEY DID WAS A "QUICK FIX" OF CHANGING THE SPARK PLUGS TO "APPEAR" TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. THERE HAVE BEEN UNEXPECTED "SURGES" OF THE ENGINE WHILE IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET, WHICH ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT THAT COULD'VE INJURED OR KILLED OUR FAMILY, WHICH INCLUDES 2 ELEMENTARY AGED CHILDREN. THEY NEVER DID THE SECOND STEP OF REPLACING THE PISTON RINGS IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, BECAUSE OF THE RECALL DATE. THIS WAS BY DESIGN SO THE BUYER WOULD HAVE TO EAT THE COST ($2448 + TAX). AMERICAN HONDA AND WOLFCHASE HONDA (DEALERSHIP), KNEW ABOUT THE RECALL ON THIS MODEL OF PILOT, EVEN AT PURCHASE TIME, BUT DID NOT TELL US, NOR DID AMERICAN HONDA EVER SEND A RECALL NOTICE FOR IT. ALTHOUGH THEY DID SEND ONE FOR THE TAKATA AIRBAGS THAT WAS ALL OVER THE NEWS. SINCE APPARENTLY, THE MEDIA HASN'T HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM, HONDA DECIDED TO JUST IGNORE IT AND DENY ANY CLAIMS HONDA CONSUMERS HAVE.

- Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger side air bag inflator, free of charge. The manufacturer has mailed an interim notification, and will send a second notification when parts are available. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are KE1 and KE2.

We traded in our 08 Accord in November 2009 for our 10 Pilot LX. The first thing we did was go to eBay and bought four Touring wheels, which were brand new. Then we purchased the running light kit from a Honda dealer in Ohio. After that, I bought a custom grill kit from CarID in California, along with two chrome pipe extensions. We also bought the faux chrome strips that go in the door guards. After taking off the old grill and installing the awesome billet grill (2 pc. upper & lower), running lights, exhaust extensions, and door chrome, this LX is now awesome. The best part is that I saved $4500 by doing it myself. I absolutely love this big roomy SUV and have driven it to Florida and back, as well as to Ohio and back. It's definitely my number one car.

If you haven't had the chance to check out the new Pilot, I highly recommend giving it a try. The latest design is a significant improvement from the pre-2009 model. When it comes to finding a vehicle that offers ample space, utility, comfort, and a truck-like feel with a smooth driving experience, the Pilot is the perfect choice, especially for families with three small children. We considered several crossovers, such as the Mazda CX-9 and Ford Flex, but they didn't quite meet our needs. The Pilot, on the other hand, feels like a truck but handles like a car. Despite its size, it's surprisingly comfortable and easy to drive. We recently traded in our Honda Odyssey for the Pilot and it already feels like home. I'm absolutely thrilled with it so far!

This SUV is definitely worth considering if you're in the market. It's just the right size, bigger than our old 2000 Explorer, and rides much smoother and quieter. Don't be put off by all the talk about it pulling right, as it steers perfectly straight with a very steady wheel. It gets 24 mpg on the highway, 18 in the city, and 20.5 mixed, which is not bad for a 4000lb SUV. It's a Honda, but not a Civic or Accord, so let's be realistic. Overall, it's super quiet, comfortable, handles great, and has good power.

To those who may have experienced the sensation of the vehicle 'floating' while steering or pulling to the side, I would like to offer some advice: please do not drink and drive. Honda utilises a technology called Power-On-Demand Responsive Steering, which may take some getting used to. I can personally attest to the quality of Honda's vehicles, as my old Pilot has clocked 125,000 miles and still runs just as well as my brand new one.

This is my 3rd Honda Pilot and I wouldn't even think of buying any other brand. I've never had any major work done on my other two and that makes this vehicle a major winner. It handles wonderfully, feels safe on the road, and is loaded with lots of extra goodies. If you're looking for luxury with a lot of safety and reliability, this is the vehicle for you.

I strongly advise against purchasing the Pilot between '09 and '13 due to the oil consumption issue that caused problems with spark plugs, timing belt, and other components. However, I did enjoy the car otherwise and would recommend it outside of those model years.

Our family purchased a 2010 Honda Pilot in late 2009, thinking it was the best option out there since it was new and pretty advanced for its time. Although the design was always questionable, we bought it to see what would happen. Within the first couple of years, we were naive enough to think it was a good car. It was perfect until we were in a rear-end incident three years after owning it, and it protected us, but unfortunately, one of us had a fracture in the neck bone. I believe this could have been avoided if the car had bigger rear headrests and more structural support. After the car was repaired, it continued to have continuous issues, some of which are still unresolved today (such as the fan jamming in the A/C). The car is simply unreliable and cheap. For our top-of-the-line model, which cost $40,000, I do not want to see cheap plastic and seats with no support. I would have rather bought a 2-row SUV that would have been nicer. So, please stay away from this car. Looks can be deceiving. I don't want you to look at it every day when you need to go somewhere and just keep thinking about the day you will get rid of it. I have had a horrible experience with Honda and Acura, and I am done with them altogether. Thank you for listening.

If you are considering purchasing a 2010 Honda Pilot, I would like to share my experience with you. When I bought mine in August 2009, I encountered some challenges. For instance, there is a dash reflection on the driver's side window that can be problematic when the sun is in the right position, as it can obscure the side view mirror. Additionally, checking the oil is not the easiest task due to poor design. The dipstick cable access is not very visible, and you need to guide the stick directly to the port to avoid getting any outside grime into the oil. Filling the oil is also not very convenient, and without a funnel, you may only be able to get half a quart in for every quart. However, I hope this information helps you make an informed decision. Please let me know if you have any questions!

I purchased this vehicle for my wife and so far she loves it very much. Although we have noticed some pulling to the right, we don't see it as a major issue. While the vehicle feels solidly built, we have noticed that some of the interior parts can ruffle on bumpy roads. Additionally, the road noise is quite pronounced. It's worth noting that for shorter individuals (like my wife who is 5'3''), the blind spot can be quite large.

You'll love the spacious interior and cargo capacity of this vehicle! With three rows of seating or a huge cargo hold, you'll have plenty of room for all your needs. While there have been some issues with the radio, premature tire wear, and brakes, overall reliability has been very good.
