2005 Gmc Envoy xuv problems
The GMC Envoy is a mid-size SUV manufactured and marketed by General Motors for the 1998 to 2009 model years over two generations. Adopting a nameplate used by GM Canada, the Envoy was a rebadged variant of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, Oldsmobile Bravada, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7X.
General Motors assembled the model line at its Moraine Assembly (Moraine, Ohio) and Oklahoma City Assembly (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma). Both facilities were closed by 2008, leading to the discontinuation of the model line. The Envoy was not directly replaced in the GMC model line as General Motors transitioned its smaller SUVs to unibody-chassis designs, introducing the smaller GMC Terrain and larger GMC Acadia.
First generation (1998–2000)
The first generation GMC Envoy was introduced for the 1998 model year. Introduced a year before the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, the Envoy was the highest-trim version of the GMC Jimmy SUV. In line with the Oldsmobile Bravada, the Envoy was fitted with a leather-trim interior, floor-mounted shifter, and a largely monochromatic exterior with aluminum-alloy wheels. In line with the TrailBlazer and the Bravada, the Envoy trim was offered only in the five-door version.
The Envoy had many extra features not available on the regular Jimmy 4-door including: a remote trunk release, heated driver's and passenger's seats, a Bose sound system, and High Intensity Discharge headlights. Optional features included: a power sunroof, a panic alarm, an anti-theft system, and a power front driver & passenger seat.
GMC ended sales of the first generation Envoy after the 2000 model year as the division adopted the name to replace the entire Jimmy SUV line for 2002.

Common 2005 Gmc Envoy xuv problems
Based on the sources provided, here are the common problems with the GMC Envoy XUV 2005 based on complaints from owners:
- Loss of Engine Power: A common issue reported by owners of the 2004-2005 GMC Envoy is a loss of engine power, often attributed to a faulty catalytic converter. This problem can lead to a significant decrease in performance and may require replacement of the catalytic converter to resolve the issue.
- Ignition Switch Problems: Owners of 2008 GMC Envoys have experienced difficulties with the ignition switch, with reports of repeated failures. This issue typically arises within the first 70,000 miles of ownership and may necessitate replacement of the ignition switch to address the recurring problem.
- Exhaust Manifold Leak: Some 2009 GMC Envoy owners have reported hearing loud exhaust leak sounds due to a cracked exhaust manifold. Replacing the exhaust manifold can cost around $500 and is a common issue encountered by owners at approximately 80,000 miles.
- Thermostat Malfunction: The thermostat in the 2nd Generation GMC Envoy is prone to issues, particularly with its location making it challenging to access. Symptoms of a faulty thermostat include a check engine light, reduced heat output, and potential overheating if the thermostat gets stuck closed. Replacement of the thermostat housing is the recommended solution for this problem.
- Camshaft Actuator Solenoid Valve: Another common problem is the failure of the camshaft actuator solenoid valve, leading to a rough engine operation and triggering check engine lights with error codes like P0014 and P1345. Inspecting for metal debris on the valve and replacing it if necessary is crucial to address this issue.
These problems highlight some of the key issues faced by owners of the GMC Envoy XUV 2005, emphasizing the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to any warning signs to ensure the vehicle's optimal performance and longevity.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-07
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1gket16s956
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: I purchased my envoy from a used car lot with no warning lights and no apparent safety concerns about 2 yrs ago other then what appeared to be a replaced front bumper cover and the vehicle was repainted the same color white, since then the brakes have intermittently not disengaged on one side or the other I believe it's the front brakes and seems to be worse after a longer drives and after bleeding the system the pedal would be firm and next day spongy feeling and going down rather far. Air bags did not deploy apon impact. It is available for inspiration although I am attempting to repair it after my accident the brakes are still as they were. I have tried both on as well as performance pads and rotors booster check valve and fluid replacement with no change. I was coming back from my daughter's dentist appointment it is 20 minutes away the roads were very slick with snow and sleet, I got off the hwy and coming through town I braked to slow from 45 to 35mph before crossing the intersection when I let off the brake the left side stayed engaged enough to cause the vehicle to pull to the left and I couldn't steer straight because of the snow and was forced to hit 2 traffic light posts in the center median. Usually on dry roads I can tap the pedal and keep it straight until the brakes released. I first noticed it changing pads when I 1st purchased it that the front tires spin harder while jaked up and when it continued I figured it was alignment or steering components worn but even after parts replaced a 2 alignments nothing changed, after my last alignment the technician said the brakes need to be bled and I told him the issue he was unsure the cause. I did not have any air bags deploy in this accident and the sensors were clearly effected as the bumper caved in the center. The vehicle also has had uneven ride height due to independent sensors in the rear. The vehicle now has a service airbag and service brakes light. Other owners have similar issues with their envoys

- Summary: WHILE DRIVING IN A 40 MPH ZONE I GLANCED AT THE SPEEDOMETER AND IT READ 70 MPH! I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN BEFORE I REALIZED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATION WAS INACCURATE. UPON COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATED 40 MPH. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE RESUMING NORMAL OPERATION. SINCE THEN I HAVE NOTICED THE GAUGE "STICKING" WHEN LETTING OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL. THIS IS CREATING AN UN-SAFE CONDITION FOR MYSELF AS WELL AS THE OCCUPANTS OF THIS VEHICLE. I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE SPEED INDICATION IS TRULY ACCURATE. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT ON THIS VEHICLE AS WELL AS OTHER GM MODELS MADE DURING THIS TIME FRAME. THERE SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS.

I bought this truck because I own a couple of properties and occasionally need to transport doors and other large items. Although it is not my everyday car, I absolutely love driving it. The design is fantastic, with fold-down seats and a roll-off roof. I have already used it to move a huge cabinet, and it was perfect for the job! It is also a great vehicle for transporting my three dogs. I have not yet rinsed out the back cargo area, but I have been told that it is an option. While it may not be able to accommodate seven people, it is perfect for those who want the utility of a pickup truck combined with the comfort of an SUV. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase!
-
I love everything about the Envoy XUV. It's such a dependable vehicle, both in terms of performance and comfort. My friends always comment on how comfortable it is to ride in and drive. I've been driving my 2004 model for over 65,000 miles and have never had a single problem with it!
-
Your SUV rides like a dream! It looks exceptional and performs like a top-of-the-line vehicle should. Handling is great even in bad weather. With OnStar, you have an added feeling of security, knowing that your loved ones are safe and just a push button away from help. The comfort is sheer joy! It's a pleasure to drive and has plenty of room for all of you and your things. The towing capabilities are huge, as you can tow a 22-foot fishing boat with no trouble. The sliding rear roof feature has come in handy for your wife a couple of times already, whether it's bringing home large trees and shrubs for the garden or a new refrigerator. The only downside is that the gas mileage could be better.
-
We've been using this vehicle constantly since we bought it, taking it on trips and using it to pull our trailer. It's been less than 7 months and we've already put over 18,000 miles on it, but it hasn't failed us even once! The far back area is perfect for our 4 dogs, and the window separating it from the seating area means that flying fur is no longer a problem. Cleaning it is a breeze - all you need is a hose. We absolutely love this vehicle - it's the best ever!
-
THIS SUV IS THE BEST THING EVER FOR MYWIFE AND I! THE NEXT DAY AFTER WE BOUGHT THE XUV WE HAULED NEW SOFA TO MY DAUGHTERS HOUSE. I BOUGHT A CARGO MAT FOR THE REAR TO COVER THE LINER WHICH IS REALLY GREAT. THIS VEHICLE RIDES LIKE FLOATING ON AIR AND HAS EVERY GAGET YOU CAN GET ON A CAR. FOR MY FAMILY IT IS PERFECT! THANKS- PS MY XUV IS A V8 ENGINE NOT ON YOUR SELECTLIST!!

Although there are some issues with wear and poor fit and finish after only 3 months, and the handles are not great (consider getting the rear air suspension option), the roof is an invaluable feature. However, there are some drawbacks such as the lack of usable space in the center console (my brother's 04 Explorer Limited has a 10-inch wide console). Overall, I think this is a good truck. Personally, I prefer Toyota or Nissan due to their superior build quality. It's frustrating when panels and plastics don't meet up properly both inside and out.

GMC has a known instrument cluster problem where all gauges stop working and the speedometer does not register correctly. Unfortunately, GM has not issued a recall for this factory defect, and consumers are left to pay $500 to $1000 to fix the issue out of their own pockets. It would be great if GM could take responsibility for this issue and provide a solution for their customers. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

We chose the XUV because it was a unique fit for our needs at the time. Although it was great initially, we have experienced some issues over the past few years. Unfortunately, the midgate glass window shattered when we were raising it one time. Additionally, the reargate window motor has broken twice in the past 3 years and gets stuck down, making it impossible to open the rear door. We have also had some trouble with the rear door sensor, which has malfunctioned a few times, taking about 5 minutes to get the door open. Lastly, the dealership has informed us that the instrument cluster is bad, as the speedometer and oil pressure gauges don't work. We are currently debating whether to spend $1000 to get it fixed or buy a different vehicle.

Cluster issues just like everyone else. The midgate window shattered after discovering it wouldn't go up or down. The rear window motor literally fell apart just like everyone else's. I bought it used from an old man who drove it and winterproofed it every year, so it shouldn't continuously have these issues. Unfortunately, parts are rare to find now, and the dealership charges an arm and a leg for them, IF they even have them. I would not recommend this vehicle at all.

Although the SUV has an attractive appearance, it has been a source of frustration for me. Despite being only a year old and having 12000 miles on it, it has been in the shop nine times for various issues, including problems with the windshield wipers, electrical system, and engine. The brakes have also been problematic, and several parts have had to be replaced. While I appreciate the aesthetics of the vehicle, the numerous issues have made it difficult to enjoy.
