2010 Gmc Terrain problems
The GMC Terrain is a crossover SUV by American manufacturer General Motors under its GMC marque. Sharing its platform with the Chevrolet Equinox, the first-generation Terrain was built on GM's Theta platform, while the second-generation model is currently built on the Delta platform. First generation (2010)
The 2010 Terrain debuted in April 2009 at the New York International Auto Show, introduced as a replacement for the Pontiac Torrent, which ended production after GM shut down the Pontiac brand in 2010. Although the preceding Pontiac Torrent had the same Theta platform, the Torrent was a rebadged version of the original Chevrolet Equinox from 2005 to 2009, while GM decided to differ the look of the Chevrolet Equinox with its 2010 Terrain and still use the Theta platform. Early 2010 models had the GM Mark of Excellence logo applied on the sides of the vehicle.
The Terrain initially came in SLE and SLT trims. For the 2013 model year, a Denali trim was added, featuring additional chrome trim and slightly improved interior quality, the 3.6-liter SIDI V6 that is shared with the 2012 Cadillac SRX, and firmer front struts. The Denali also offers cross-traffic detection, blind-spot warning, and a power passenger seat as options. A low-end SL trim was added for 2015.

But for the absolute first time we needed to use the defrost/defogger button last week on OCTOBER 20, 2022 and it wouldn't work. No lights came on to say it was defaulty. It also started to make our radio screen flicker when i tried to turn defrost on and it's continuously flickering and defrost doesn't engage on front windshield at all won't even melt snow or help defog when it's been raining or it's cold out. I almost wrecked my terrain due to this problem. Now on my instrument panel says camshaft/crankshaft sensor says service stabilitrack and something about my AWD System. All these happened within a week from trying to use my defrost. Also my instrument panel where it shows how fast i go flickers and it flickers on the RPM side as well. Noone has touched or looked it over since i have owned my 2010 terrain. Everything was just fine up till i pushed my defrost button and then all the other stuff happened

- Summary: My 2010 Terrain had been been intermittent dash warnings for “Service StabiliTrac” and “Engine Power Reduced” which would force the engine to reduce the speed itself down to about 30 MPH. After turning off car and restarting, warnings would go away. Yesterday, while driving on a secondary road, with no check engine light on, the engine stalled while traveling at approx 35 MPH. I was able to drop the vehicle into neutral and coast onto a side street, while also attempting to restart the engine. I was able to pull over without causing an accident. After letting the car sit for a few minutes I attempted to restart the engine, but only got a strange noise from the area of the upper cylinders. At his point the check engine light was now on. While waiting for a tow truck, and independent mechanic pulled up to ask if I needed help. After listening to the noice from the upper engine he asked if he could get tools and look in the engine. I said yes. He quickly pulled parts off the upper engine and opened and removed the upper cylinder cover. This revealed that the timing chain had no tension, as well as shards of shattered plastic all over the place, in and around the upper cylinders. After pointing this out he put everything back together and suggested I contact the dealership I got the vehicle from, which I have done already. He then stated that it appears that the engine would need to be replaced or rebuilt, due to catastrophic engine failure. He said my quick thinking of putting the vehicle into neutral probably avoided causing an accident and allowed me to get myself to a safe spot before stopping the vehicle. He also stated that this particular GM motor is known for catastrophic failure, which GM has failed or refused to acknowledge

I stalled out on the interstate with traffic going 65 mph minimum, the wheel locked and I was almost rear ended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
- Consequence: The bright reflection may cause a glare for other drivers, reducing their visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

In the affected vehicles, the bolt that secures the driver's and passenger's power front seat height adjuster may fall out causing the seat to drop suddenly to the lowest vertical position.

Has anyone out there heard a noise like a ticking coming from the front of the motor of a 4 banger Terrain SLT2? You may hear it when you first start up in the morning or later on in the day when the engine is hot. If you're walking by the front end while it's still running, you may hear it. It sounds like a valve lifter noise. Thanks!

This car handles very nicely, gives a comfortable and quiet ride, and, so far at least, mileage is better than advertised (33.5 mpg in mixed driving during rush hour, but I am a careful driver). Utilitarian, yet stylish and fun to drive! Lots of room in the back seat.

Just traded in my 2001 Jeep Cherokee with 92,000 miles. I was sad to see it go, but I am absolutely loving my new car! It is simply amazing and I never want to leave it. The car drives very smoothly and feels like an Escalade, but for half the price. GMC really did a great job with this car, both inside and out. I have only had it for about 3 days and people are already asking me what it is. I just wish there were more of them around!

Hi there! I noticed a couple of things that could be improved in your car. Firstly, I found that there wasn't quite enough room to comfortably buckle up the front driver's seat belt as it was right up against the center console. Additionally, I found it a bit difficult to get into the driver's door when parked on an incline, especially as I'm 5'9

Although the advertised 32 MPG Hwy. for the 4 cyl. Terrain was a major factor in our decision to purchase it, we were disappointed to find that during our recent 2400 mile trip, mostly on interstate highways and with cruise control set below the listed highway speed, we only averaged about 25 MPG. As senior citizens, we were hoping for better fuel efficiency. While we cannot recommend this vehicle to friends and family based on our experience, we acknowledge that individual driving habits and conditions may vary. It is important to consider all factors when making a purchasing decision.

This vehicle has proven to be reliable, however, there are some areas that require improvement. Despite driving 40,000 miles a year, I have found that the fuel efficiency is not up to par with other vehicles in its class. Additionally, the interior is prone to dust accumulation when driving on gravel roads. The 3.0L v-6 engine lacks power and the headroom is limited for taller individuals. While the vehicle's appearance is appealing, there are some issues with the seats being uncomfortable and the cruise control acting erratically. The transmission shifting could also be improved, and the climate control system could be more effective. Overall, this vehicle has potential but there is room for improvement.

The transmission on my car failed after only 6 years and less than 49,000 miles. It is disappointing that a transmission with such low mileage did not last longer. It is worth noting that GM reduced the mileage for its powertrain warranty from 5 years/100,000 miles to 5 years/60,000 miles. However, I am confident that this issue is not indicative of the quality of GM's vehicles as a whole. Additionally, the fuel economy of the car is lower than advertised, with a mileage of only 18 MPG.

I purchased my 4 cyl SLE 2 Terrain in 2011 with just 9k on the clock. Initially, I was impressed with the car's features and comfort for the price. However, after 20k miles, it required a timing chain replacement, and after 40k miles, it needed another one. Additionally, the AC would cycle on and off every 10 seconds, which was concerning. I took it to GMC for an AC check, but they said it was fine. After several visits, they started changing parts, but unfortunately, it only made things worse. Eventually, they told me that it needed a new evaporator because it was leaking. I took it to another shop for a second opinion, and they couldn't find any leaks. I went back to GMC, and they started working on the computer, which only made things worse. Yesterday, while driving home, I heard a growling noise coming from the transmission, and then my car stopped, and I had to get it towed to GMC. The next day, GMC informed me that the transmission was damaged and would cost $4400 to repair because it was out of warranty. This car has only 4300 miles on it and has never been driven hard. I would advise against purchasing a Terrain as it has not been a reliable vehicle for me.

I purchased this terrain just over a year ago and have experienced several issues. Despite being on the road for only 4 years, it has required a motor rebuild due to oil consumption, two timing chain replacements, and has had malfunctions with the AWD system, sunroof, navigation unit, and numerous sensors. The emissions system has also been problematic. Unfortunately, most of these repairs were not covered under warranty, resulting in significant out-of-pocket expenses. As a result, I have lost confidence in the reliability of this first-generation terrain and cannot recommend it for daily use.

Edmonds requested I update my review, even though I had traded this vehicle in prior to writing my review of it. Since we traded it in four years ago, we have received at least twenty recall advisories or letters from attorneys requesting we take part in class action suits. However, I cannot speak to the quality of newer models. If you're looking for a good, reliable, small AWD, I highly recommend the Subaru Outback. It has great mileage, lots of room, and outstanding AWD. It's no wonder you see more of them than any other vehicle in snow country.
