Gmc Acadia 2008 problems

The GMC Acadia is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors for its GMC division. The first-generation GMC Acadia shared the GM Lambda platform with the Saturn Outlook, the Chevrolet Traverse, and the Buick Enclave. The Acadia went on sale in 2006 as a 2007 model in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Acadia replaces three of the 7- or 8-seater vehicles on the Buick-Pontiac–GMC dealership network, the midsize GMC Safari van, the GMC Envoy, and the Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan for the domestic market. As of 2009, the Lambda vehicles have replaced the Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous, Buick Terraza, and the GMC Envoy XL and then subsequently the GMC Envoy, Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the Isuzu Ascender. A Denali version of the Acadia debuted for 2011. In 2017, the second generation Acadia was repositioned as a mid-size crossover utility vehicle in order to compete within the growing midsize SUV market against the likes of the Ford Explorer, Edge, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

First generation (2007)

The Acadia represents GMC's entry-level truck-like CUV and is the first unibody vehicle from the marque. It is also GMC's first front-wheel drive passenger vehicle, and also the first such vehicle of any kind since the 1973-78 GMC Motorhome.

The Acadia has seating for eight and either front or all-wheel drive. With a 5,200 lb (2,359 kg) towing capacity, the Acadia slots between the GMC Terrain and the Yukon. The Acadia is the mid-priced Lambda model between the Chevrolet Traverse and Enclave.

In December 2006, all production and sales of the Acadia (and the Saturn Outlook) were temporarily stopped due to the engine mounts not having holes drilled to release accumulated water, as well as an issue with potentially faulty rivets in the load floor just forward of the vehicle's rear hatch. The assembly process was quickly adjusted, and dealership sales of the vehicles had resumed within days of the notice.

The first-generation Acadia was sold alongside its second-generation replacement as the Acadia Limited.

Common Gmc Acadia 2008 problems

The 2008 GMC Acadia has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the engine and transmission. One of the most significant issues is the engine shutting down entirely while driving, which often requires a complete engine replacement, costing around $3,000 or more.

In addition to engine problems, the 2008 GMC Acadia transmission also generates significant issues. Many drivers have reported needing to replace the transmission at 75,000 miles or earlier, which can be a considerable expense.

Less serious interior accessory-related complaints include a non-functioning radio or sunroof. However, drivers also reported inconvenient transmission-related issues, such as the transmission repeatedly generating a "shift to park" alert, even when the vehicle is already in park.

Another set of complaints involves electrical issues with the 2017 GMC Acadia, leaving drivers stranded. These issues are sometimes caused by a dead battery, which costs around $200 to replace, but in other cases, the solution is less apparent.

The 2009 GMC Acadia's engine appears to be no better than the engine in the first two models, with complaints continuing to pour in about unexpected failures. The catalytic converter and timing chain have been specifically named in a handful of incidents, and the transmission appears just as prone to failure as the first two models.

The 2007 GMC Acadia also experienced significant transmission problems, with many reports of failures around just 75,000 miles. This issue, combined with a high repair cost, makes the 2008 Acadia one of the least reliable options for a used GMC midsize SUV.

The 2012 and 2013 Acadia models saw a recurrence of engine problems, including leaks in coolant and gaskets, which could lead to overheating and engine damage. The repair costs for these issues were notably high, detracting from the Acadia’s overall reliability as a midsize SUV.

The 2015 and 2016 GMC Acadia models are considered more reliable, with fewer reported problems. They offer spacious cabins with ample cargo space, making them practical choices for a used crossover SUV.

The 2017 and 2018 GMC Acadia models have had their share of issues, primarily related to the interior accessories. Drivers reported that their 2017 GMC Acadia horns didn’t make sounds without significant pressure, if at all, which can become a serious hazard in emergency situations.

In summary, the 2008 GMC Acadia has been reported to have significant engine and transmission problems, with many drivers needing to replace these components at considerable expense. The 2009, 2012, and 2013 models also experienced engine and transmission issues, while the 2017 and 2018 models had problems primarily related to interior accessories. The 2015 and 2016 models are considered more reliable options for a used GMC midsize SUV.

  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: STRUCTURE:BODY:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 Buick Enclave vehicles manufactured January 3, 2007, to February 29, 2012, 2009-2012 Chevrolet Traverse vehicles manufactured July 6, 2008, to March 9, 2012, 2007-2012 GMC Acadia vehicles manufactured September 15, 2006, to February 29, 2012, and 2007-2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles manufactured August 17, 2006, to March 18, 2010. The affected vehicles, equipped with the power liftgate option, have gas struts that hold the power liftgate up when open. These struts may prematurely wear and the open liftgate may suddenly fall.
  • Consequence: If the open liftgate unexpectedly falls, it may strike a person, increasing their risk of injury.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power liftgate actuator motor control unit so that the motor will prevent the rapid closing of the lift gate, free of charge. The recall began on November 15, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, and Saturn customer service at 1-800-553-6000. Negative Gmc Acadia 2008 car reviews

I will not purchase a GM vehicle again. Although the ride was awesome and the motor was super fast and quiet, there were several issues that detracted from the overall experience. These included water in the door wiring harnesses which eventually blew the Bose amp, water pump problems, and the TCM light for the transmission repeatedly coming on and putting the car in limp mode. The dealer was not able to diagnose the issues and only wanted to rebuild the transmission. Additionally, the lift gate broke and I never got around to fixing it. As a result of these issues, I have chosen to purchase foreign cars for the last 15 years. It is worth noting that while dealers have not heard of these issues, there are numerous complaints about them on Google.

I've had some issues with this car. Over the almost 4 years I've had it, I've had to replace the engine and transmission, seatbelts, airbags, and headlights multiple times. There are also some issues with the timing chains and oil leaks. Although my car is fully loaded, not everything works perfectly. However, it still looks good. I've had some problems with the Stabilitrak system and the DVD player, and the backup camera and tailgate have some issues as well. While I'm still making car payments, I've had to pay for all the repair bills. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this car.

The car has had several repairs in the past 18 months, including clogged sunroof drain tubes causing water leaks into the cabin, a new transmission at 86,000 miles, a new radiator at 89,500 miles, malfunctioning window controls, a burned-out Bose amp, and rear calipers that locked up. The sway bars also had to be replaced due to constant rattling. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend purchasing another GMC product.

I purchased a 2008 GMC Acadia because I was drawn to its styling and spaciousness, which was perfect for my three children. While it served me well for a couple of years, I unfortunately encountered some issues. I had to pay $1,100 to fix a steering problem that was not covered by the warranty, and later had to get a rebuilt transmission at 62,000 miles. Now, at 83,000 miles, the transmission has failed again. Despite my disappointment, the dealer was apologetic but unable to help as the warranty had expired four months prior. Additionally, I experienced some electrical problems with the seats and headlights. While this experience has left me feeling disheartened about American cars, I acknowledge that newer Acadias have received more positive reviews. However, I remain cautious and will be keeping an eye out for any potential issues in the future.

The interior design and room are very impressive, making for a comfortable ride for both my 6’+ husband and my 5’4” self. Although there have been some issues with reliability, the car has been a great fit for my family. While there is a bit of a blind spot where the windshield and driver’s side window meet, it’s manageable if one knows to take a second look before leaping. The second row captains seats provide plenty of room for both of my grown children. Overall, I have enjoyed my experience with this car.

Positive Gmc Acadia 2008 car reviews

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share a recent experience I had with my 2008 GMC Acadia. Over the past 5 years, we've had to replace several daytime running lights, but the most recent repair was quite unexpected. We were informed that the plastic housing that reflects the light out had melted around the light, which would cost $1000 to replace. Unfortunately, the other side was experiencing the same issue, so the total cost would be $2000. While we believe this is a flaw and not normal wear and tear, GMC has not offered to cover the cost. I just wanted to share my experience with you. Thanks for listening!

I reviewed and searched for the perfect crossover and I found it in the GMC Acadia. Although I had previously owned an Acura MDX that gave me mechanical problems, GMC has changed my mind about American cars! The GMC line has really impressed me, and I am grateful for the wonderful ride that turns heads and makes me smile. My daughter loves looking through the 2nd row sunroof, especially at night, and watching her long-awaited DVD player. Additionally, my in-laws love that we can have them along since it seats 6 comfortably and 7 with a small child on the third row. I am so happy with my purchase that I will only trade it for a new one. The GMC Acadia is everything I thought it would be and more. Thank you, GMC!

I've been driving Suburbans, Yukons, Jimmy's, Envoys and now the Acadia for over 20 years. I must say, GM finally got it right with this Acadia. It's nice and comfortable to drive, and there are plenty of gadgets to keep me busy.

I won't lie, my GMC Acadia has had some issues. However, with that said, I still love my car. After numerous calls to GM, they took care of the issues and, in one instance, even made the dealer come out of pocket. I know that some people don't like going to the dealer, but I've been to the dealer for everything and, in the end, it paid off a few times with loyalty that GM recognized and even stood up to show they did.

Great crossover! GM really hit the mark with this one. It's an excellent car with lots of room and is very comfortable. In fact, it has more room than the Toyota Highlander I had. The ride is incredibly smooth too.
