Common 2006 Kia Rio problems
The Kia Rio 2006 is known for a few common problems that owners have reported. One of the most frequent issues is a bumpy ride, which is often caused by suspension problems. The suspension system in early models of the Rio was prone to issues, and if your car has a very bumpy ride, it is likely that the suspension has worn out. Replacing a suspension system is a significant job, but there are online guides available to help you through the process.
Another common problem with the Kia Rio 2006 is the illuminated ABS light on the dashboard, which can indicate a faulty sensor on the back wheel. This is a relatively easy fix, and the sensor can be replaced with a new one from an online store.
Excessive vibration is another issue that Kia Rio 2006 owners have reported. To fix this issue, you will need to order replacement units from a parts list and check the rear wheel bearings as well.
Engine misfires and rough idling are also common problems with the Kia Rio 2006. It is also worth checking the spark plug wiring for damage.
Fuel leaks are a serious issue that can lead to a fire, and this was the cause of a recall for the Kia Rio 2006. The problem is caused by a cracked inlet nipple on the fuel distribution rack, and it can be resolved by ordering a distribution rail and fuel supply pipe from a parts list and fitting them yourself.
In summary, the Kia Rio 2006 has several common problems, including bumpy rides, illuminated ABS lights, excessive vibration, engine misfires, and fuel leaks. While some of these issues are relatively easy to fix, others require more significant work, such as replacing the suspension system or fixing a fuel leak. If you own a Kia Rio 2006, it is essential to be aware of these common problems and address them promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of your vehicle.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-07-16
- VIN: KNADE123366
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: BRAKE LIGHTS IN REAR CAME ON DURING DRIVING AND REMAINED ON. AFTER BECOMING AWARE OF THE ISSUE, AND REPLACEMENT OF THE STOP LIGHT SWITCH WHICH DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE, AND AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION THE PROBLEM WAS A DESIGN DEFECT. THE STOP LIGHT SWITCH HAS A "BUTTON" WHICH WHEN DEPRESSED INTERRUPTS THE FLOW OF ELECTRICITY, THERE IS AN "EAR" ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHICH WHEN YOUR LET OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSES THE SWITCH BUTTON AND CUTS THE CURRENT. THE PROBLEM IS THE BUTTON ON THE SWITCH IS AROUND 1/16 IN DIAMETER, AND FOR SOME STRANGE REASON KIA DRILLED A 1/4" HOLE ON THE "EAR" OF THE BRAKE PEDAL WITHIN 1/16 OF AN INCH WHERE THE SWITCH BUTTON CONTACTS THE EAR, WHICH ALLOWS ONLY 1/16 OF A INCH OF THE EAR TO DEPRESS THE PEDAL, WHICH IN THIS CASE WITH MY CAR WITH 50 THOUSAND MILES, ALLOWED THE BUTTON OF THE STOP LIGHT SWITCH TO ENTER THE HOLE IN THE EAR ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND NOT DEPRESS THE BUTTON ON THE SWITCH, WHICH THEN ALLOWED THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO CONSTANTLY BURN. I SUSPECT THAT NORMAL WEAR OF THE BRAKE PEDAL BUSHING ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN, THE STRANGE THING IS THERE IS NO REASON FOR HOLE TO BE IN THE CONTACT AREA WHERE THE EAR AND THE SWITCH BUTTON MEET. AND WITH ONLY A MINOR AMOUNT OF THE SWITCH BUTTON MAKING CONTACT AND THE REST OVER THE HOLE IN THE BRAKE PEDAL "EAR" IT IS NOT SURPRISING THAT THIS WOULD BE THE RESULT. I HAVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, AND NOTICED THE SWITCH FOR THE CLUTCH PEDAL WHICH REQUIRES THE CLUTCH BE DEPRESSED IN ORDER TO START THE ENGINE, IT WAS SET UP WITH A HOLE VERY CLOSE TO WHERE THE SWITCH BUTTON MAKES CONTACT. THE ABOVE HAPPENED WHILE WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON A HIGHWAY ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN THE FOLLOWING WEEK AND THIS TIME THEY KEPT IT FOR THE WEEK AND WERE ABLE TO GET THE LIGHT TO STAY ON. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2006 Kia Rio.
- Manufacturer: KIA MOTORS CORPORATION

I've had my Kia for just over two years and it's still doing excellent. I'm coming up on 20k mileage and nothing has broken or been replaced outside its maintenance. It's a very reliable car if taken care of, and it's definitely worth the money.

I've had my Kia for almost two years now, since I got it as a Christmas present in 2005, and it's been the best car I've ever owned! I absolutely love the way it handles, the gas mileage is fantastic, and the interior is so roomy and comfortable. The stereo system is top-notch, and both the air conditioning and heating work perfectly. Honestly, I can't think of a single thing to complain about with this car - I love it so much! Even the lack of cruise control and electric windows doesn't bother me at all. I'd much rather have the great basics that this car offers than all the fancy bells and whistles that other cars have.

This is my 5th Kia in 8 years and I must say, the quality just keeps on getting better! I had the original 2001 Kia Rio, which was economical and cute, and provided great value with the warranty. Last month, I traded in my 2004 Spectra for the Rio 5 SX and I instantly fell in love with the metal pedals, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and comfortable cloth. As someone who is 6'3

I'm so excited to share that I just picked up my loaded Rio 5 SX! I had to special order it to get the Sunset Orange with Power Package and 4 wheel disk brakes, but it was totally worth it. Driving it is an absolute pleasure and I actually look forward to my daily commute again. Even with over 400 miles on it in just a few days, it still drives like a dream, even in heavy rain (which we've been getting a lot of here in NH).
-
I'm so glad to hear that you love it! It sounds like it handles great, holds the road well, and is soundproofed. That's fantastic!

I purchased my Kia Rio 5 on Jan. 3, 2006 because it was the most affordable option for me at the time. Let me start by highlighting the positives: it's cute and comes with a 100,000 mile warranty. However, I have noticed some areas for improvement. The reviewers mention performance features and such, but I have found that the car is not very powerful. Going up a long incline (even with overdrive turned off) can be a loud and exhausting experience. Additionally, the gas mileage is not as advertised by Kia. While I was told the absolute minimum gas mileage was 32 in the city, I have found it to be closer to 22 mpg. Despite these issues, I have found the car to be reliable. Although it is quite cramped, it is perfect for short commutes. I hope this helps!

I have experienced multiple issues with my car, including the replacement of three brake cylinders within a year. Despite this, my brakes continue to squeak and make unusual noises. Additionally, I have encountered problems with the gas pedal sticking in the morning, which has yet to be resolved. As a confident statement, I am dissatisfied with the car and the service provided by the dealership.
Julius Ernser 2024-04-25
When I first told my family that I was getting a Kia, they laughed. I was looking for an affordable car and the Kia had great reviews. However, after barely two years, I'm laughing right along with them. My car stalled at a stop light and I had to drive it to a dealership where the board had to be replaced. Then, just yesterday, my car overheated on the freeway and I had to have it towed. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this car to anyone. I wish I could turn back time and get a Toyota or Honda instead. Thank you for considering my experience with the Kia.
Giovani Leannon 2024-03-16
At 16,000 miles, the battery lost a cell and left me stranded. However, I had it replaced at the dealership without any issues. Although they used another Kia battery that will only last for two more years. Unfortunately, at 17,035 miles, the transmission started to lock up and overheat the car. It wouldn't go into overdrive and second gear. I immediately contacted the dealer, but they were unable to provide me with a loaner car or help arrange for a rental. I will be having it towed on Monday. I had a mechanic check the transmission fluid, and two other people witnessed that it was full, and we checked three times. I am confident that it is a weak defective part, just like the battery was.
