I find that the material inside of the torque converter is way softer than that on the input shaft causing the torque converter to strip out? How do they not have to fix that? This has been going on for over a decade! Why does someone have to die before they are responsible for something they know has a problem!

I was slowing down for a stoplight and it happened. Brakes were not enough. Almost hit a car. Only by throwing into neutral allowed me to gain control and stop. My mechanic couldn’t find anything. I THOUGHT AT FIRST THAT IT WAS JUST ACCELERATION DUE TO GRAVITY, BUT I QUICKLY REALIZED THAT THE THROTTLE MUST BE OPEN SINCE I WAS QUICKLY ACCELERATING TO SPEEDS ABOVE 65MPH, AND THE BRAKES WERE NOT AS EFFECTIVE AS THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN IF THE ACCELERATION WERE DUE ONLY TO THE HILL. I SAW A PLACE UP AHEAD TO PULL OVER, BUT I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL VERY HARD IN ORDER TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK VERY QUICKLY AND TURNED IT OFF SINCE THE ENGINE WAS RACING. THERE WAS A GREAT DEAL OF SMOKE COMING FROM MY FRONT BRAKES, WHICH WAS VERY DISCONCERTING. I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND FOUND THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HAD COME UNFASTENED AND HAD CAUSED THE THROTTLE TO STICK OPEN. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE MADE A HOWLING SOUND WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE TIRE WAS REPLACED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. BALISE MOTOR SALES IN SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE SHOCK TOWER MOUNT NEEDED TO BE DRILLED IN ORDER TO PERFORM A FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT TO PREVENT PREMATURE WEAR OF THE TIRES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE CONTACT REPLACE THE STRUTS. THE VIN AND DOT NUMBER WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,000.

  • Summary: FORD MOTOR COMPANY SOLD MY VEHICLE WITH A LIFE-THREATENING DESIGN DEFECT IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THIS DESIGN DEFECT COMPRISES A PLASTIC COVER OVER THE STAINLESS STEEL HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES WHERE THOSE LINES PASS FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR TO ITS REAR BENEATH THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE OSTENSIBLE PURPOSE OF THE PLASTIC COVER IS UNKNOWN TO ME, BUT ITS ACTUAL FUNCTION IS TWOFOLD. FIRST, IT TRAPS MOISTURE AND ROAD SALT TO CAUSE RAPID CORROSION OF THE STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINES, WHICH CORROSION EVENTUALLY CAUSES THE LINES TO RUST COMPLETELY THROUGH, CAUSING ONE OR BOTH LINES TO BURST UPON APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES, RESULTING IN SUDDEN AND COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. SECOND, THE PLASTIC COVER HIDES THAT CORROSION FROM VIEW SO THAT CAREFUL VISUAL INSPECTION DOES NOT REVEAL THE CORROSION PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO THE KNOWLEDGEABLE MECHANIC WHO REPAIRED MY BRAKES AND WHO HAS EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PROBLEM, THE DESIGN DEFECT APPLIES TO BOTH FORD TAURUS AND FORD FOCUS MODELS. THAT MECHANIC HAS IN THE PAST URGED FORD TO RECALL THESE CARS BUT FORD HAS TO DATE REFUSED TO DO SO. PRESUMABLY THE DESIGN DEFECT OCCURS ALSO IN THE MERCURY SABLE WHICH IS MERCURY'S TWIN TO THE FORD TAURUS. THIS DESIGN DEFECT CAUSE MY BRAKES TO FAIL SUDDENLY AND COMPLETELY, CAUSING ME TO HIT ANOTHER CAR. FORTUNATELY THE DAMAGE RESULTED IN NO PERSONAL INJURIES, BUT IT CAUSE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN DAMAGE TO MY CAR AND PRESUMABLY COMPARABLE DAMAGE TO THE OTHER CAR. BUT IF THE BRAKE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED AS I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT, OR IF I HAD BEEN BRAKING FOR A PEDESTRIAN, IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH. I PARKED, TURNED CAR OFF, TURNED IT BACK ON AND EVEN WHILE PARKED IT REVVED BACK UP TO OVER 4,000 RPM. TOOK IT TO FIRESTONE ON 2/16/17- THEY REPLACED THE IAC (IDLE AIR CONTROL) VALVE. 3/3/17- WHILE IDLING AT RED LIGHT WITH FOOT NOT ON THE GAS, CAR ACCELERATED/ REVVED UP TO OVER 4,000 RPM ALL BY ITSELF. HAD TO PRESS ON BRAKE VERY HARD AND TURN CAR OFF. TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WAS NO LONGER ACCELERATING. 3/4/14 TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT FIRESTONE. THEY ADJUSTED CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. 9/3/17- WHILE IDLING ON A BRIDGE WITH FOOT NOT ON THE GAS, CAR ACCELERATED/ REVVED UP TO OVER 3,000 RPM ALL BY ITSELF. BRAKING WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND HAD TO TURN CAR OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WAS NO LONGER ACCELERATING BY ITSELF. 9/4/17 TOOK IT TO FIRESTONE. THEY ORDERED A NEW IAC VALVE AND REPLACED IT ON 9/7/17. 10/14/17- WHILE IDLING IN TRAFFIC WITH FOOT VERY LIGHT ON BRAKE, CAR ACCELERATED/ REVVED UP TO OVER 4,000 RPM ALL BY ITSELF. HAD TO QUICKLY TURN CAR OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC TO STOP IT. TURNED CAR BACK ON AND IT WAS NO LONGER ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. THE CONSUMER STATED ANOTHER FAILURE OCCURRED ON 10/28/2017*JS

  • Summary: AROUND 6PM I WAS DRIVING DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET (25 MILES SPEED), IN MOTION, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR JUST TURNED OFF. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO STEER TO THE SHOULDER. I NOTICED ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS ON, MY GAS PEDAL WAS NOT WORKING, BUT THE A/C WAS STILL WORKING AND THE RADIO. SO I KNOW IT WASNT MY 1 YEAR OLD BATTERY. I WAITED FOR 30 SECONDS AND TURNED THE KEY AND IT RESTARTED AGAIN. MY FIANCE, OUR 4 CHILDREN AND I WERE IN THE CAR AT THE TIME. 70% OF MY DRIVING IS FREEWAY..THIS IS OUR ONLY CAR AND IM DEATHLY AFRAID OF THIS HAPPENING WHILE IM ON FREEWAY. I BELIEVE THE ENGINE IS FAULTY ON THIS YEAR/MODEL/MAKE.

  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC:PADS
  • Summary: Bosch Brake Components LLC (Bosch) is recalling certain aftermarket replacement front brake pads, models Bosch QuietCast BC598 and BP765, Bosch Blue BE598 and BE598H, Prostop PD598 and PD765M, Duralast Gold DG598, Duralast MKD598, Stop Master ST598, UltraStop ULT598, UltraLife MX598 and MX765, BrakeBest MKD765, and Prostop Platinum PGD598. These brake pads, manufactured October 1, 2014, to October 31, 2015 are intended for use on 2001-2007 Ford Taurus, 2001-2005 Mercury Sable, 1995-1999 Ford Taurus SHO, 1995-2002 Lincoln Continental, and 1993-1998 Lincoln Mark VIII vehicles. The brake pad shim may shift out of position causing the shim to contact the brake disc resulting in damage to the disc.
  • Consequence: A damaged or broken brake disc may reduce a vehicle's braking power, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Bosch will instruct the owners how to have the affected brake pads replaced, free of charge. The recall began on May 26, 2016. Owners may contact Bosch customer service at 1-888-715-3616.

  • Summary: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES BUILT FOR ONE SPECIFIC FLEET CUSTOMER WERE MODIFIED FOR OPTIONAL HANDS-FREE CELLULAR PHONE OPERATING CAPABILITY. TO PROVIDE THIS FUNCTIONALITY, A SPECIAL OVERLAY WIRE HARNESS WAS INSTALLED THAT INADVERTENTLY DID NOT INCLUDE THE CIRCUITS FOR PASSENGER AIR BAG DEACTIVATION INDICATOR (PADI) LAMP FUNCTION. AS A RESULT, THESE VEHICLES DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, 'OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION.'
  • Consequence: THE PADI LAMP WILL FAIL TO ILLUMINATE AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP IN THE CLUSTER WILL STAY ILLUMINATED.
  • Remedy: THE FLEET CUSTOMER WAS NOTIFIED AND ALL VEHICLES HAVE BEEN REPAIRED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 28, 2006.

  • Summary: ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, PASSENGER CARS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR MAY HAVE BEEN PRODUCED WITHOUT GREASE BEING APPLIED TO THE OUTPUT SHAFT GEAR.
  • Consequence: AFTER A PERIOD OF CONTINUOUS USE ON THE HIGH SPEED SETTING, LACK OF GREASE ON THE OUTPUT SHAFT GEAR MAY CAUSE THE GEAR TO DISTORT OR FRACTURE DURING OPERATION RESULTING IN A LOSS OF WIPER FUNCTION. INOPERATIVE WIPERS UNDER INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS COULD CAUSE A CRASH DUE TO IMPAIRED VISIBILITY.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE WIPER MOTOR FOR THE PRESENCE OF GREASE AND GREASE THE WIPER MOTOR GEARS IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 22, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673 OR LINCOLN/MERCURY AT 1-800-521-4140.

    I purchased the car used with 26,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, I have been experiencing some issues with the ride quality. Even small bumps cause everything to shake and rattle, which is quite disappointing. Additionally, the road noise is unbearable, especially the wind noise, despite the dealer's attempts to fix it. I have also noticed poor attention to body part alignment. Whenever it rains, the passenger floorboard gets wet, and I can't seem to locate the source of the moisture entry. In comparison to my 2000 Impala, which has over 121,000 miles on it, the Taurus falls short. I have had several good Ford cars in the past, including an '86 Sable, so it's unfortunate that the Taurus has gone downhill. If you're looking for a better buy, I would recommend the Impala, which has a great ride, is quiet, and has great mileage.

    My 2001 Taurus SE was an excellent car in every way. Although the 2006 model I purchased seems to have been hastily put together. The body parts such as the quarter panels, doors, and hood do not match, leaving gaps and misaligned body parts. The interior is made of cheap, inferior materials, which is a shame. However, the fuel economy is excellent, and the handling and general reliability are superb. It's a fun car to drive, as long as I ignore the substandard construction. Overall, it's still a good value for the money.

    My son got this car as his first vehicle in September 2015. It was previously owned by a single middle-aged woman who took great care of it. She put about 70,000 miles on it over the course of 10 years. The car came with records, including a semi-recent exhaust overhaul and a new alternator. The oil changes were done on time by a reputable mechanic in the area. If anything seemed like it was going wrong, she had it replaced immediately. It was a great deal on a car that wasn't too old and had low mileage. However, in February 2016, the car started having issues. In one month, I had to have it towed two hours from home and replace the intake manifold, catalytic converter, and alternator, all within a 50-mile radius. It was a costly experience, and my savings account was depleted rapidly. Despite its flaws, the car has a certain charm to it. It may not have all the modern updates, but it was a good price and my son is happy with it.It's great to hear that you had a 1993 Taurus when your son was born in 1997! It's surprising that such a popular car got left so far behind. Although there's not much difference between the 1993 and the 2006 models, it's still a reliable car with a familiar interior. It's a shame that the iconic brand has gone stale. I hope the car remains stable after the issues last month. However, it seems like there's a light on the dash for the airbag, which can be taken care of later when the car needs to be inspected. Your kid can save a little more money from his after-school gig at a pizzeria. Also, he can pay you back the $1400 he owes you first (he had $600 available initially).

    I bought my Ford Taurus used with only 40,000 miles on it. Now, with 74,000 miles on it, it is still running strong with no problems, just natural wear and tear on the brake pads and rotors. I drive it daily and it handles very well on the freeway! It handles poorly in the snow, but other than that, I have no issues with my transmission failing and have had it regularly serviced every 3,000 miles. It's a great car!

    What a great find! We recently purchased a 2006 SEL with all the bells and whistles - leather seats, sun roof, alloy wheels, ABS, and more - and we couldn't be happier with our choice. The car is incredibly spacious and the leather seats are so comfortable. Our friends have even commented on how smooth the ride is! The acceleration and power are more than adequate for most drivers, and we've been averaging 25mpg with a mix of highway and city driving. On a recent long highway trip, we even averaged 31 mpg - amazing! If you're in the market for a full-sized sedan, you owe it to yourself to check out the Taurus. And the best part?
