Common 2011 Ford Taurus problems

Based on the complaints from owners of the 2011 Ford Taurus, several common problems have been reported:

  • Electronic Assisted Power Steering (EAPS) Overheating: The EAPS in the 2011 Ford Taurus is prone to overheating, which can be expensive to repair. Additionally, many electrical issues are linked to a weak battery, which can be resolved by installing a larger battery. However, this does not prevent EAPS failure.
  • Throttle Body Malfunction: The throttle body in the 2011 Ford Taurus is reported to be another common issue. While it can fail, it is considered an easy fix if repaired correctly.
  • Recalls: The 2011 Ford Taurus has been subject to recalls, including issues with the interior door handle return spring and the license plate lamp assembly. These recalls should be addressed promptly to ensure the safety and functionality of the vehicle.
  • Brake Wear: Owners have noted that the 2011 Ford Taurus tends to wear through brakes more quickly than expected. Regular maintenance, including brake replacements, is necessary to address this issue.
  • Coolant System Maintenance: Regular maintenance of the coolant system, including coolant flushes every 15 to 20k miles, is recommended to prevent issues with the water pump and ensure the proper functioning of the engine.
  • Transmission Control Module (TCM) and Brake Corrosion: Complaints have been raised about power loss, hesitation, and brake drag due to corrosion buildup between the brake pad and anchor bracket. Regular checks for debris and corrosion are advised to maintain the transmission and brake system.

These reported problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to any recalls or known issues to ensure the longevity and reliability of the 2011 Ford Taurus.

  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: This Sunday, the electrical power steering started acting weird as I was driving home, the steering did some unpredictable stops as I was driving 100km/h and had to take a turn on the road. Almost got into an accident because of that steering sudden failure. I can't imagine if there have been a car on the opposite lane I was gonna hit that car... I got so afraid I can't believe the steering can actually malfunction all of a sudden like this. I somehow got back home ''safe'' but then steering was dead. Impossible to steer. Dead. Got my taurus 2011 SHO towed to the closest Ford dealer so that they finally call me and say my VIN number is not on the recall even tho there were thousands of Taurus 2011-2013 recalled for that same issue.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-11-24
  • VIN: 1FAHP2FW2BG
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: Had my Ford for less than 6 months, and has 80,000 miles on it. Looks brand new, in excellent shape and yet on the way home from the grocery store, it began overheating. The tempature gage shot up and the engine started cutting out. We pulled over and the vehicle was smoking. We started adding water and coasting down the mountain until we could get home. Called several mechanics and find out that this is a common problem with our year and model. Every person we've consulted has quoted us $3,000 to repair the water pump. We have been told that the excessive charge is because when Ford built this model, the water pump was placed inside the engine. The entire engine has to be taken out of the car in order to replace the water pump. Most mechanics around us don't even have the machine that is needed to remove the engine. Ford is backed up for months on repairs. Our vehicle has been sitting for two summers because we cannot afford this $3,000 repair for a water pump! We are making payments on a car that can't be driven. Something needs to be done about this. The more I dig and research, the more complaints for this very issue I find. We need help!

  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: The option to adjust the climate control or change the radios is not available in this vehicle anymore. They are currently stuck on defrost and high heat which makes you almost blind when the sweat runs in your eyes. The radio just plays at an uncomfortable volume level. There have been no warnings has to why this happened. It just happened all at once, with no way to change it. You try being 160 miles from home with a toddler in car midsummer and your heater blowing on hi heat. This has happened to many people all over, theres no new part being manufactured to replace this broken one, and there's no salvage yards that have one for sale because they have all been bought up. and this issue is still arising in other fords that are only a couple years old. Ford needs to have a recall on this!

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-02-17
  • VIN: 1FAHP2EW4BG
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Ford needs to recall the throttle body sensor and break pedal for the 2011 Ford Taurus FWD SEL MODEL. Back in the day, there was a cable connecting the accelerator pedal to the throttle. If that cable snapped, well, you were up a certain creek without a paddle. But at least you knew what it was. Nowadays every system in your vehicle is controlled by some sort of computer, including the ETB (sometimes called an electronic throttle control (ETC)). The ETB uses data from sensors to control the position of the throttle valve, which in turn manages the amount of air entering the engine. Spent well over 809.00 for new TB sensor and break pedal and my car is still not working. It goes into Limp mode and sudden acceleration w o warning. It’s very dangerous. Repair done on Feb 13, 2023 REPLACED Accelerator Pedal SENSOR Fuel Injection Throttle Body

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-02-11
  • VIN: 1FAHP2EW4BG
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
  • Summary: My 2011 Ford Taurus has had so many repairs out of pocket expenses and if I purchased another warranty package doubt it would cover my issues past and present. 69,000 th miles. Throttle bottle and pedal replacement $ 852.79 replaced on February 14, 2023. Mechanic tried to fix it but the error code is the large blue wrench and check engine light still on. Have to bring it in at the end of the month to my Ford Dealer as they are so booked up and I have read all the Ford recalls. When I start the car the break pedal is to the floor, it revs up and when I place the shift in drive it wants to take off by itself at a rapid speed. I then shut the car off and it makes a big thump. It takes me three tries to start it up again but looses power where I have to put my emergency flashes on. This incident is so dangerous. Ford should have done a recall there are so many complaints ! I was going to disconnect my battery and connect it again to see if that works but I don’t want to erase the codes. My Ford dealership is so busy that they could only give me an appointment at the end of the month. As I stated my vehicle is inoperable as it sits until the end of the month to get serviced again.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-09-16
  • VIN: 1fahp2kt3bg
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: Engine/ Water pump. Started the car one day and a massive plume of smoke came out of the exhaust. So far we have caught it early enough to where the whole engine doesn't have to be replaced. But the repair is costly. Shame on Ford for building this model of engine that has water pump failures that leak coolant into the oil. Especially when a vehicle has been well taken care of and maintained. This is causing $$$ to be spent.

While driving if I brake, I can the water slush from back to front under and inside car. Drivers side floor is flooded with water since August 2021 and reported it to Geico and has not been fixed. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-11-13
  • VIN: 1fahp2ew2bg
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: 2011 Ford Taurus SEL at 100,000 miles the a/c started blowing out of the defrost at 90 degrees and on high, none of the controls worked for the A/C, radio, clock etc.. The front interface module went out. I was told by Ford no new replacements available they are discontinued and so far I've bought and replaced 3 used ones in the past 2 years myself. I was also told they would need reprogrammed (THEY DONT NEED REPROGRAMMED) buy the dealership about 400.00 and 300.00 to install a used part after I found one and bought it and brought it to them. The new parts should be available for you as long as long you own your vehicle you shouldn't have to buy used ones that are going to go out to.. The car has locked the doors car on me twice now with the key in the ignition on their own I left it unlocked. The excessive heat also cracked my windshield that I had to replace. The used modules run 150.00-300.00 each time plus the few hours it takes to replace...not good Ford....not good..
2021-07-14

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-06-13
  • VIN: 1FAHP2EW1BG
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: Attempted to start vehicle in driveway. Without warning, experienced a catastrophic failure of the water pump/engine cooling system. The failure caused the engine crankcase to fill with coolant and caused the vehicle crankshaft bearings to disintegrate into the oil leaving a silvery sludge. Upon taking vehicle to repair center, recommendation was to replace the entire engine since apparently the failure caused unrepairable internal damage to the engine. I have see other complaints about this where the failure happened while the vehicle was being driven and could have caused a very severe dangerous accident to occur as a result of the engine failure. Ford should be ashamed of the quality and workmanship in this motor since it appears to be a common an recurring problem.

Negative 2011 Ford Taurus car reviews

  1. Nolan Ward 2024-05-11

It's great to hear about your experiences with different cars! I can imagine it must have been tough to lose your Mazdaspeed 6 in a divorce, but it sounds like you made the best of it with a police interceptor for a while. Your 2011 Taurus SHO with performance package sounds like it was a great value, especially with all the luxury features and fresh styling. It's understandable that you eventually regretted not buying the G8 GXP instead, but it's all part of the car-buying journey. Thanks for sharing your story!

I've had my Taurus for a year now and have put 38k miles on it since I use it for work. Unfortunately, I've had to take it to the shop 6+ times due to transmission issues. It shifts very hard and hesitates going into gear, which has put me in some unsafe situations. While I love the look of my car and find it fun and sexy, I'm very disappointed with the service I've received. As a mom and grandma, safety is my top priority and I need a reliable vehicle. I'm currently working with Ford to resolve the issue and exploring my options under the Lemon Law.

I really like this car, but there are a few issues that I've noticed. Firstly, when merging into traffic at around 20 mph, you need to accelerate quickly. If you don't press down hard on the accelerator, the car struggles. The dealer has assured me that this is normal. Additionally, when parking on a slope and shifting into park, the car tends to roll forward about a foot before coming to a stop. Again, the dealer has said that this is normal. Lastly, if you're over six feet tall, you'll need to remember to duck your head when getting in and out of the car to avoid hitting it on the door frame. I chose this car because it's a Ford and an American vehicle, but I may consider other options for future purchases.

Although some have had a positive experience with their car, unfortunately, mine has not been up to par. Shortly after purchasing it, I had to schedule a service visit due to a vibration and shimmy at highway speeds, which is even more noticeable in curves. Despite Ford having my car in their shop for a longer period than I have had it in my garage, the issue persists. Currently, it is in for its second visit with the local dealer, who is attempting to push it out the door without resolving the issue. While the car's lines are good, a crooked windshield installation detracts from its overall appearance. At this point, I am considering pursuing the lemon law route and cannot recommend this car to others. It is best to pass on this one.

As the title suggests, police officers use Ford Taurus vehicles extensively across the country, subjecting them to fast accelerations, hard braking, and running or idling for 10-12 hours per day. Despite this, they continue to purchase them. With that said, I have always admired the sleek new body style of the Taurus and was thrilled to find my own Tuxedo Black beauty. I have driven it extensively and have only needed to perform routine maintenance. It is a driver's car with all the features anyone could want!

I've owned this car for 3 months now and I have to say, I absolutely love it! It's so much fun to drive. I bought it with the moon roof and 301A package and the gas mileage is really good. The ride is a bit stiffer than what I'm used to, but I'm getting used to it. The sound system is fantastic, although Microsoft could improve Sync. I personally don't find the head rests or rear window vision to be a problem. However, the shift paddles are useless to me. I've received a lot of compliments from other people!

Congratulations on your new Taurus Limited! It's great to hear that you're enjoying the ride and the hi-tech features. The Sync System sounds amazing, especially the way it links to your iPod and cell phone. The adaptive cruise control is a standout feature, making long trips more relaxing and enjoyable. It's wonderful to hear that you're having fun driving it. Thank you for recommending the 303 package with Nav and Adaptive Cruise. Wishing you many happy miles ahead!
