- Summary: Every couple weeks when driving slowly around a corner, the brakes will all of a sudden come on & stop my car. If I had anyone behind me, I would have had several collisions, by now. - Summary: Car shop replaced front suspension struts 1/23/19. I told owner that made the clunking noise ever worse. Kevin said well, your car needs lower control arms, bushings, &engine mount. Had that done by same car shop on 9/16/2019. I told Kevin that did not take care of clunking noise. I took car to an auto shop where I moved to for maintenance. They told me my struts were bad. Called Kevin in Fayetteville & the struts were going out of warranty later that week. I drove up there & the replaced struts on 1/27/2020, under warranty but charged me labor. The clunking continued. Around 6/29/2022, my car steering locked up while I was driving on a busy street. I turned the car off & waited a minute to restart. It drove properly then. I took it to auto shop & the owner said the struts were bad. This would be the 3rd set of struts since 1/23/2019. This car shop owner told me the problem read the strut bearings and they’d never been replaced. Owner said that is the base component of strut replacements. According to my invoices, I don’t see a charge either time for “strut bearing”. I’ve filed a Complaint with the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office in Little Rock. I asked for money reimbursement for all the charges from Kevin so I can have the local car shop (being the same one that told me strut bearings not being done) was do this 3rd set of front struts. The response to AR Attorney General from Kevin is a joke! I have all documents pertaining to this.

- Summary: On 4 separate occassions, my 2009 Ford Taurus limited automatic transmission dropped out of gear while I was accelerating slowly away from a stop The times they have occurred Is from a stop sign into traffic. It dropped out of gear at about 5 mph and made a growling noise. . I put my foot on the brake. When I started it again everything worked fine. . I was leaving a parking lot and I had reached a speed of 5-15 mph when there was no longer any gear, then it slammed into gear for a moment, went a few feet, then dropped out again, then slammed into gear again. I was able to coast to the curb in a residential area and turn the engine off. Fortunately no traffic was coming.Another time I pulled into traffic and slipped out of gear Iwas able to back up only and parked it. Then several hours later I started the engine again and had no further trouble. so far. I was checking out recalls and service bulletins on it today and I found that other owners reported similar problems. If I had been pulling out into traffic and my transmission failed the way it did, there could easily have been an accident. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE !!!!!!!

- Summary: 2009 FORD TAURUS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *SMD THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. HE IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL OR PARK POSITION AND THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNK SOUND. WITHIN A SECOND OR SO, HE TURNED THE IGNITION TO THE OFF POSITION. HE THEN RE-STARTED THE CAR AND IT RESUMED ITS NORMAL OPERATION. THE CONSUMER STATED EACH TIME, HE WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT, WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE INCREASED SLIGHTLY DURING THE FIRST TWO INCIDENTS;PERHAPS SEVERAL HUNDRED RPM.

- Summary: MY WIFE AND GRANDSON WERE ENTERING THE TOLL WAY VIA THE RAMP, AS SHE MERGED INTO 75 MPH TRAFFIC SHE INCREASED HER SPEED TO MATCH. AS SHE DID SHE LET UP OFF THE ACCELERATOR BUT THE CAR KEPT INCREASING SPEED. SHE REALIZED THAT THE THROTTLE WAS STUCK AND STARTED TO PUMP THE PETAL IN HOPES TO FREE IT. IT DID NOT FREE AND WAS STILL INCREASING SPEED. SHE THEN IN HER PANIC COULD ONLY STOMP ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS SHE COULD. THANKFULLY THIS SLOWED HER ENOUGH TO ALLOW HER TO GET THE CAR OVER TO THE SHOULDER AS SEMI TRUCKS WENT BY HER AT 70 MPH. WITH THE BRAKES ON THE CAR SMOKING LIKE CRAZY SHE GOT THE CAR SLOWED ENOUGH TO THROW THE CAR INTO PARK. WHEN SHE DID THE ENGINE REVVED TO ALMOST REDLINE AND SHE SHUT THE CAR OFF. SHE WAS VERY SHAKEN AS WELL AS MY GRANDSON. SHE CALLED ME AND IT JUST SO HAPPENED THAT I WAS NEARBY AND MET HER ALONG SIDE OF THE BUSY TOLL WAY. SHE TOLD ME WHAT HAPPENED SO I WENT TO THE CAR AND STARTED IT. IT IMMEDIATELY REVVED TO ALMOST RE LINE AND I SHUT IT OFF. THE GAS PEDAL SEEMED TO WORK FINE TO ME BUT WOULD ONLY INCREASE THE RPM'S BUT NOT GO BELOW 4500. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND TOWED THE CAR TO STURGIS MICHIGAN FORD DEALER. 269-651-7728. Roomy, comfortable, and plenty of power with good fuel economy, this car is nicely styled. As a happy owner, I can say that it's a very nice car with a very reasonable price. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of today's standards, such as GPS and Sync, it still offers a great driving experience.

Congratulations on your first domestic! It's great to hear that you're so happy with it. This car seems to be very reliable, even more so than Toyotas and VWs you've owned in the past. With almost 30K miles, it's impressive that you've only needed to perform maintenance. While the city mileage may not be the best, it's important to keep in mind that this is a 2 ton plus car with 263 horsepower, larger than any Toyota or Honda by 400-500 pounds with AWD, so the gas mileage for its size is commendable. It's not a Corolla or Camry 4 cylinder, and Honda and Toyota V6 cars, including the Avalon, are much smaller regardless of class (400-500 pounds), and they do not offer AWD. Additionally, the Taurus feels more stable at fast highway speeds, especially with crosswinds, than other sedans. Overall, it sounds like you made a great choice with this car!

Hi there! I recently took my car in for a 20K check up, even though I had it inspected just 6 months ago. Unfortunately, I found out that my rear brakes and rotors are bad. I was a bit surprised and asked how this could happen after only 20K miles. The mechanic told me that it was a manufacturing issue, but unfortunately they were not responsible. On top of that, I also need new tires after only 20K miles. I was hoping to buy American, but it looks like Toyota might be getting a new customer.

Back in 2011, I purchased my 2008 Taurus SEL with only 40,000 miles on it. Fast forward 8 years and I'm proud to say that I'm about to hit 300,000 miles (@298k now)! This car has been incredibly reliable and has only required basic maintenance such as oil changes, brake replacements, tire changes, light bulb replacements, and a battery replacement. Even the few repairs I've had to do over the past 6 months since hitting 250k were still things that can go wrong in any car after a while (tire-rod, wheel bearing, and AC compressor). The best part is that parts for this common American car are not expensive at all and are easy to find. For instance, I only paid $175 for the tire rod, $20 for the AC compressor from a salvage yard, and $75 for a wheel bearing!

The driving position could be improved. The pedals are too close, while the steering wheel is too far. The seat lacks side support, and the low beams are not very effective. Additionally, there is some torque steer, and the car is subject to wind gusts. The engine can be noisy under acceleration, and the transmission shifts can be whiny, which passengers may ask about. The radio display disappears unless the dash display is up full. It can be difficult to rest your arms on the rests and reach the steering wheel, and it's also challenging to reach the 10 and 2 wheel positions because the wheel is so far away. You may end up leaning forward to reach the top of the wheel to turn, and pushing the wiper squirter can turn on signal lights or brights. Finally, the intrusion of the front wheel wells into the foot wells can be uncomfortable.

I've had my Taurus SEL for 1 year and 2 months and put 17K miles on it. Although I like the car, I'm considering buying a Toyota or Honda due to some reliability issues. The engine noise around town can be a bit bothersome, but overall it's a good car for long distance drives. The car has a nice design and interior, with plenty of headroom. On the highway, I get 24 miles per gallon. While I've had to take it to the shop 8 times in the past year for various issues, the problems have been addressed and fixed. Currently, it's in the shop for a loud tapping noise when the air is turned on/off, but I'm confident it will be resolved soon. Last week, it was in the shop for 2 days to replace bearings on struts, and a month before that, other bearings were replaced due to a squeak/grinding noise. The rubber seal around the door was also replaced. Overall, I still enjoy driving my Taurus SEL despite the minor issues I've experienced.

I have a 2008 ford taurus ltd that have blown a head gasket just a little past the 120,000 mark. I replaced the engine to only have the same thing happen. Truly love the vehicle, but the is a default somewhere in the engine. I have filed a claim with Ford motor, hopefully they can resolve this matter.

Hi there! I noticed that you traded in your 04 Mustang GT for a Taurus, which is a great choice if you need a back seat. The Taurus has decent acceleration, but I understand that it can be a bit of a gas guzzler. However, the Limited series has a really high-quality interior and the tech system is really impressive, especially with the nav and synch. While the exterior styling may not be as impressive, the car definitely delivers when it comes to space. I do want to mention that gas mileage can be a bit tricky, but I'm sure you already know that. I was actually getting better mileage with my GT in town. On the highway, I've found that driving steady at 70 mph gets me about 22.5 mpg, cruising at 65 gets me about 24.5, and at 62 (which I tried today) I got about 26 mpg. I'm not sure what speed gets 30 mpg, maybe 55? Let me know if you have any other questions!

My Ford Taurus SEL 2008 has not given me the outstanding mileage that some people claim. Despite being a conservative driver, I only get around 14 mpg in the city and around 17 mpg when driving out to Valley Stream (Nassau County) at an average speed of 55 mph. However, I must say that this car is comfortable and has great interior and trunk space. While the cabin is not always quiet, it is still a pleasant ride on pristine roadways. In areas like the Bronx where the roads are not as smooth, the cabin can be noisy and make it difficult to listen to the radio.
