2015 Scion Xb problems
The Scion xB is a compact car (subcompact car in its first generation) made by Scion, a now-defunct fully owned division of Toyota, for the United States market. It is a box-shaped, 5-door hatchback.
First generation (XP30; 2003)
The first-generation xB was a lightly modified and rebadged version of the Japanese-market subcompact Toyota bB. It was a small hatchback based on the Toyota Echo/Yaris platform. The xB was one of two models in the lineup of Toyota's US-exclusive Scion division present at the brand's 2003 launch, the other being the xA, based on the Toyota ist. The car proved to be unexpectedly popular with senior drivers.
First-generation xB vs. first-generation bB
Only the first-generation models for both the xB and bB are related. Second-generation models are based upon different platforms.
To create the first-generation xB, the bB was modified from right- to left-hand drive, the front passenger area was also changed significantly with the bB's front bench seat replaced with bucket seats and the column-mounted shifter changed to a floor-mounted shifter.
The available drivetrains also differed. The bB was available with either the 1.3 L I4 2NZ-FE engine or the 1.5 L 1NZ-FE, mated exclusively to a 4-speed automatic transmission with available all wheel drive. The xB was only available with the 1NZ-FE that produced 108 hp (81 kW) and 105 lb⋅ft (142 N⋅m) in US spec, but offered both a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission. All-wheel drive was not offered on the xB.
The Toyota bB was equipped with a compact spare tire under the floor of the luggage area. On the Scion xB, a compact spare tire was stored under the left side of a raised rear cargo floor. Since the spare tire raised the cargo floor by several inches, a storage bin was added to the right of the spare tire to reclaim some of the lost storage space. A jack was stored under the driver's seat of the xB.
The Toyota bB had a pull-out storage tray under the passenger seat that the xB lacks.
The bB went on sale in February 2000, whereas the xB went on sale in June 2003 for the 2004 model year. Sales of the first-generation bB ended in December 2005, whereas the first-generation xB ended sales in June 2007.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-10-18
- VIN: JTLZE4FE9FJ
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The car is giving problems in the engine, it's consuming way too mucho oil. I found out that there was a recall this Monday oct 18, 2021, and they told me that I can not participate because my car exceeds the miles limit by 6k miles, which I know, but if I knew that, I would've taken the car to a Toyota Dealer earlier. Is it possible to have it repair by some empathy and understanding of not receiving anything on mail or alert whatsoever. Please I beg for help, it's my only vehicle, the one I go to work to. I will loose my job if this don't get fixed because I can't afford to pay an engine repair on my own at this moment! Thank you for understanding!
AIR BAGS,STRUCTURE,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

- Number Of Injuries: 2
- Crash: 1
- Fire: 1
- VIN: JTLZE4FE9FJ
- Components: AIR BAGS,STRUCTURE,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: THE BRAKES FAILED
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-12-06
- Crash: 1
- VIN: JTLZE4FE3FJ
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 SCION XB. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY TO DETERMINE THE CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-10-29
- VIN: JTZE4F3FJ07
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: LAST NIGHT WE WENT OUT. THE CAR WAS PARKED AT AN EVENT FOR A COUPLE HOURS, THEN WE WERE HEADED FOR DINNER WHEN THE DASHBOARD LIT UP, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER. FORTUNATELY WE WERE ON A LOW TRAVELED CITY STREET AND WERE ABLE TO PULL OFF FOR SAFETY. IF WE HAD BEEN ON THE FREEWAY, I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT, IN THE DARK, ON A SATURDAY NIGHT, THIS INCIDENT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN INJURY OR WORSE. THE PICTURES OF THE WIRING ARE ATTACHED. SOMETHING HAD EATEN THEM - THESE WIRES, DUE TO ANOTHER INCIDENT, HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED AS BEING THE EDIBLE ONES THAT ARE CAUSING SO MANY PROBLEMS IN MANY CARS. THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN REGULARLY, INCLUDING DURING THE DAY OF THE LATEST INCIDENT, WITHOUT PROBLEMS. IT APPEARS, BASED ON THE TOTAL SEPARATION OF THE WIRES FROM THE ALTERNATOR THAT SOMETHING GOT IN WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED AT THE EVENT. ALSO, WE WERE ONLY A COUPLE MILES AWAY WHEN ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. LAST TIME, SOMETHING ATE THE AC WIRES, SO THERE WERE NO SAFETY ISSUES. THIS TIME, THE CAR BECAME SUDDENLY UNSAFE WHILE DRIVING. AT THIS POINT, I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT UNLESS I DO A THOROUGH INSPECTION OF THE WIRING SYSTEM BEFORE EVERY USE, WHETHER I AM LEAVING HOME OR RESTARTING THE CAR WHILE ON AN ERRAND. AS I AM NOT A LICENSED MECHANIC, I MAY MISS SOMETHING. I UNDERSTAND THAT THESE "GREEN WIRES" ARE THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE, BUT IF THEY ATTRACT RODENTS WHO WILL CHEW THEM, POSSIBLY SUDDENLY LOSE POWER AT SPEED, ON A FREEWAY, I CAN'T SEE HOW THIS CAN BE A GOOD THING. WHATEVER ATE THE WIRES LAST NIGHT DID A PRETTY GOOD JOB OF SEVERING THEM. NEXT TIME, WHAT IF THEY ARE ONLY PARTIALLY CHEWED AND THE CONNECTION DOESN'T BREAK UNTIL I'M ON THE FREEWAY? WE HAVE HAD MANY OTHER VEHICLES AND NEVER HAD RODENT PROBLEMS. THIS IS ROUND 2 WITH THE SCION IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-01-28
- VIN: JTLZE4FE8FJ
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: TWICE MY CAR UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED. THE FIRST TIME, MY CAR WAS IN REVERSE, AND MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF. THE SECOND TIME, I WAS IN DRIVE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF. NEITHER TIME DID MY CAR MOVE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. BECAUSE I NO LONGER FELT SAFE, I SOLD THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 2,200 MILES ON IT. THE CAR COST ABOUT $18,000. THE DEALER BOUGHT IT BACK FOR $12,000.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-07-27
- VIN: JTLZE4FE9FJ
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: WHILE DRIVING ON A LIMITED ACCESS HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE PASSENGER BUMPED THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CONTROL WITH HIS LEG, MOVING THE VEHICLE FROM AUTOMATIC MODE INTO MANUAL MODE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT INTO 3RD GEAR, AND CAUSING A CORRESPONDING ABRUPT SLOWDOWN OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ACTUATION OF THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO WARN FOLLOWING VEHICLE OF THE SLOWDOWN. A FOLLOWING VEHICLE HAD TO BRAKE HARD TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH MY SCION XB, WHILE I CORRECTED THE SITUATION BY SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL BACK INTO AUTOMATIC MODE. I BELIEVE THERE IS AN INSUFFICIENT DETENTE MECHANISM TO RETAIN THE VEHICLE IN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION MODE, AND THAT ACCIDENTAL SHIFTS INTO MANUAL MODE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ARE NOT ADEQUATELY PREVENTED. AN UNINTENDED DOWNSHIFT CAUSED BY A PASSENGER COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT CAUSING GREAT INJURY IF IT WERE TO OCCUR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE COULD ALSO BE DAMAGED BY THESE UNINTENDED/UNCOMMANDED DOWNSHIFTS, CAUSING A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE DURING SUBSEQUENT EXCURSIONS.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share that I'm really enjoying my XB. It rides so nicely and is incredibly comfortable. I had a great experience buying it from Auto Nation in Buena Park. I'm very happy with my purchase!

I've been in love with the Scion xB for a long time. I finally test drove one and it was almost as I had dreamt. The interior is classic and roomy, and the ride is smooth. However, I did notice that there wasn't a lot of new technology applied in these models and the MPG is pretty low.
-
This sounds like an amazing first car! I actually leased mine and I'm considering buying it out. It has held up really well and the brand is known for its longevity. It's a shame to see them go.
-
Looks small outside but big inside! I love my used Scion XB. It's comfortable and quick! As a big guy, I fit comfortably and there's lots of space! Plus, it has speed :) This is my first Scion and I have no regrets! It still feels new and I continue to love it!

The Scion xB is such an amazing car to drive! It's incredibly smooth, and I've had the pleasure of owning both a manual and an automatic. The interior is spacious and provides excellent visibility, while the turn radius is simply amazing. It handles perfectly and has plenty of room for cargo. I've even used it to move all my belongings up and down the west coast! It's the perfect car for a road trip, comfortably fitting up to 5 people. Plus, it's a Toyota, so you know the engine will last for ages. With proper care, this car can easily last 250,000 miles or more. I couldn't be happier with it! The only downside is that they're not making them anymore - which is a real shame!

My son's 2014 Scion XB experienced a malfunction while driving on the interstate, resulting in engine failure. Despite being up to date on all oil changes, the 2.4 liter Toyota engine failed. While Toyota acknowledged that sometimes a bad motor can be installed, they were not willing to take responsibility for this particular incident. It is important to thoroughly research Toyota engines before making a purchase.
