Common 2007 Ford Taurus problems

The 2007 Ford Taurus has been reported to have several common problems that may affect its performance and reliability.

One of the most common issues with the 2007 Ford Taurus is a cracked windshield, which can be caused by various factors such as debris on the road or extreme temperature changes. While a cracked windshield may not seem like a major issue, it can lead to other problems if not addressed promptly. For instance, a cracked windshield can affect the driver's visibility, making it difficult to see the road ahead, which can lead to accidents. Additionally, a cracked windshield can allow water to enter the vehicle's cabin, causing damage to the interior and electrical components.

Another common problem with the 2007 Ford Taurus is gasket leaks, particularly oil pan gaskets. These leaks can lead to a decrease in engine performance and fuel efficiency, as well as cause damage to the vehicle's engine. Gasket leaks can be caused by various factors, such as worn-out gaskets, loose bolts, or damaged oil pans. If left unaddressed, gasket leaks can lead to more severe engine problems, such as engine failure.

The 2007 Ford Taurus has also been reported to have engine problems, particularly with the throttle body. The throttle body is responsible for controlling the amount of air that enters the engine, which affects the vehicle's speed and fuel efficiency. If the throttle body is damaged or malfunctioning, it can lead to a decrease in engine performance, as well as cause the engine to stall or misfire.

In addition to these issues, the 2007 Ford Taurus has been reported to have transmission problems, particularly with the torque converter. The torque converter is responsible for transmitting power from the engine to the transmission, which affects the vehicle's speed and acceleration. If the torque converter is damaged or malfunctioning, it can lead to a decrease in transmission performance, as well as cause the vehicle to shake or vibrate.

These common problems with the 2007 Ford Taurus can be addressed by replacing the defective parts with high-quality replacements sourced from trusted manufacturers. It is essential to address these issues as soon as they arise to prevent further damage to the vehicle and ensure its reliability and longevity.

In summary, the 2007 Ford Taurus has several common problems that can affect its performance and reliability, including a cracked windshield, gasket leaks, engine problems, and transmission problems. It is essential to address these issues promptly to prevent further damage to the vehicle and ensure its reliability and longevity. Replacing defective parts with high-quality replacements sourced from trusted manufacturers is an effective way to address these issues and maintain the vehicle's performance and reliability.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-05-03
  • VIN: 1FAFP53U77A
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: Severely rusted brake line to the driver side real brake ruptured and caused loss of brake function and emptying of the single brake fluid reservoir. I cannot currently find the ruptured line segment, but a portion of the other rear brake line was similarly rusted prompting preventative repair. Fortunately, my wife was driving at low speed and was able to maneuver the car into a parking spot. An employee at the O'Reilly store where I bought replacement parts thought the state of the ruptured line meant that it came from a 1980s model vehicle rather than a 2007 model. No one in an official capacity has inspected the brake line. My wife did not report nor have I observed any brake warning lamps during my repairs (the brake lamp does illuminate when the parking brake is engaged). Rusting occurred due to trapped road debris in a brake line support tray under driver's seat. I will include a photograph of the removed tray and a brake line portion that came from it. Close inspection of the photograph can see the debris and rust in the tray and significant rust on the non-failed brake line also restrained in it. I will also include a (scanned) receipt from O'Reilly documenting the repair parts and date.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-04-22
  • VIN: 1fafp56u77a
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Basically I was driving and stopped and my house and while in ideal the wiring under the hood and under the fender into the dash all started to melt together shorting the systems so I tried to repair and replace the parts due to being a used vehicle and didn't know how to report this until now. So I cut the melted chunk of wiring harnesses out and trashed it. But I stopped due to the inability to find any replacement harnesses from Ford or mercury so now my car has been sitting for several months. I have only been able to find melted harnesses on junk yard cars. Ford used poor quality 16 gauge wiring that the outer coating became brittle and easily frayed. Every wiring harness I've seen has bad spots from wires melting or breaking and corroding. I'm my case the wiring melted causing the cooling system to stop working properly and almost damaged or may have damaged my engine. I don't have full coverage so I am forced to park it and do what I can myself which has made me lose my job and ruined my life. Please do look into this I'm sure more people have the same issue just check a junk yard and you'll see what I mean. Thank you for your time I will try to provide any further information or help if needed anyway I can to make sure someone doesn't get hurt.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-10-21
  • VIN: 1FAFP53U57A
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
  • Summary: MY 2007 FORD TAURUS WAS UP TO 3000 RPM'S AND MY CAR WASN'T LETTING ME DRIVE FASTER THAN 19 MPH. WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE FAR WOULD DO IT REV HIGHER AND JOLT FORWARD REALLY FAST. I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND BEGAN DRIVING NORMAL AGAIN EXCEPT THE FACT MY TRANSMISSION WAS STILL WORKING WAY TOO HARD FOR THE SPEED I WAS GOING (3000 RPM'S AT 45 MPH). THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 4 TIMES IN THE PAST 2 DAYS NOW. I'M GUESSING IT'S MY TRANSMISSION AND MY CAR DOESN'T EVEN HAVE 146,XXX MILES ON IT AND NEVER HAVE I BEAT ON IT! THIS PROBLEM FOLLOWS MY DEAD BATTERY CELL AND STARTER RELAY PROBLEM. I HAVE READ SOMEWHERE ELSE THAT THESE TRANSMISSIONS GO OUT VERY SOON. I REALLY THINK THEY SHOULD BE RECALLED. I DON'T HAVE MONEY TO BUY A NEW TRANSMISSION OR VEHICLE! NO REASON THIS TRANSMISSION SHOULD BE BAD AFTER 145,XXX MILES!!

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-12-28
  • VIN: 1FAFP53U17A
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: THE HIGH AC LINE DRIPS ON THE SERPENTINE BELT AS A RESULT OF CONDENSATION DURING AC USE. THIS CAUSES A LIGHT SQUEAL THAT LEADS TO A LOUD SQUEAL. DURING THE SUMMER, THE ONLY WORK AROUND IS HAVING THE BELT CLEANED REGULARLY DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. EVENTUALLY, WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE ON THE EXPRESSWAY, THE MOISTURE CAUSED THE COMPRESSOR TO SEIZE. WHEN THE COMPRESSOR SEIZED, IT CAUSED THE BELT TO SNAP WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO HAVE A LOSS OF POWER DURING OPERATION WHICH MADE ME ALMOST LOSE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE POTENTIALLY LEADING TO AN ACCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED A MANUFACTURER DEFECT BUT WILL NOT GET BACK TO ME TO RESOLVE THE MATTER. THE MANUFACTURER SUGGESTED THAT I GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND PAY FOR THE REPAIR WITH HOPES THAT IT WILL BE RECALLED IN THE FUTURE AND I BE REIMBURSED. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIPS AREN'T ABLE TO PERFORM A REPAIR BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY TO REPAIR IT WITHOUT A RECALL.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-04-02
  • VIN: 1FAFP56U47A
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
  • Summary: (SENT TO FORD) THIS LETTER SERVES TO INFORM YOU OF A SERIOUS MECHANICAL DEFECT. I DRIVE A 2007 FORD TAURUS SEL [XXX] WITH APPROXIMATELY 162,500 MILES. THE CAR IS IN GOOD SHAPE AND HAS REGULAR MAINTENANCE. WE ALSO OWN A FORD MUSTANG, FORD FOCUS, AND FORD F-150. WE HAVE BEEN REGULAR FORD CUSTOMERS FOR YEARS. TODAY I DROVE MY CAR ON THE INTERSTATE FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE SOMETHING WAS APPARENTLY VERY WRONG. I SPED UP TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC AND SUDDENLY THE CAR CONTINUED ACCELERATING, EVEN WITH MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. I USED THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN A BIT, BUT IT WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN ENOUGH. FROM THERE I BEGAN HAVING A PANIC ATTACK. I WASN'T SURE IF I COULD GET OUT OF TRAFFIC WITHOUT HITTING SOMEONE AND OFF THE EXIT RAMP. WITHOUT GOING INTO ALL THE DETAILS, I MANAGED TO USE THE EXIT LANE AND SOMEWHAT SAFELY STOP THE CAR AT AN ABANDONED GAS STATION. UPON TRYING TO BRING THE CAR TO A FULL STOP, I USED THE PARKING BRAKE AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. THE ENGINE ROARED AND THE RPMS SKYROCKETED TO 4,000 BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF. HAD THIS NOT BEEN A MONDAY EARLY AFTERNOON WITHOUT MUCH TRAFFIC ON A SUNNY DAY, I DON?T KNOW IF THIS STORY WOULD HAVE ENDED AS WELL. I TRULY FEARED FOR MY LIFE AND THOSE ON THE ROAD WITH ME. IT IS CLEAR AFTER THE FACT THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL LINKAGE CAME OFF. (I HAVE NEVER USED THE CRUISE CONTROL IN THIS CAR, INCLUDING TODAY.) LOOKING AT THIS I CANNOT IMAGINE HOW FORD COULD DESIGN SOMETHING SO CLEARLY DESIGNED TO FAIL. WHEN THE GAS IS PUSHED, POSSIBLY IN EXCESS TO ENTER A BUSY INTERSTATE, THE PLASTIC ASSEMBLY IS PUSHED TO THE POINT THAT IT WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL. I DEMAND A FULL INVESTIGATION OF THIS SO THAT NO ONE ELSE'S LIFE WILL BE ENDANGERED AS MINE WAS TODAY. I HAVE YET TO FULLY RECOVER THIS HIGHLY EMOTIONAL EVENT. I WOULD APPRECIATE A COPY OF YOUR INVESTIGATIVE FINDINGS. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

FUSE IS NEVER BLOWN. BUT TO OPEN OR CLOSE WINDOWS, THE FUSE WOULD NEED TO BE PULLED OUT AND PUT BACK IN WITH DOOR OPEN. THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID SPRAYER WORKS RANDOMLY. MECHANIC CHECKED MOTOR, TUBES, ETC AND CAN'T FIND ANYTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED OR THAT WOULD MAKE IT WORK WHEN IT WANTS TOO. THIS HAS ALL BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE AND SOMETIMES BOOT AN ISSUE FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS NOW. FIRST OCCURRENCE, TWO YEARS AGO IN 2016 AND LAST OCCURRENCE WAS 2 WEEKS AGO IN 2018

  • Summary: TAKATA RECALL I WAS DRIVING 60MPH AND TRIED TO SET CRUISE CONTROL AND TOOK FOR OFF GAS ABS THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING FAST. ABOUT 80MPH I TAPPED THE BRAKE, CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT TURNED OFF AND CAR KEPT ACCELERATING AND RPMS WERE IN THE RED. I PUSHED AS HARD AS I COULD ON THE BRAKES AND CAR KEPT ACCELERATING PAST 85MPH AND I WAS NOW COMING INTO 30MPH ZONE AND RPMS WERE HIGH AND I TRIED TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL CAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THE ENGINE REVVED COMPLETELY UP WITH RPMS AND I FINALLY JUST THREW IT IN PARK IN ROAD AND TURNED CAR OFF AND CALLED INSURANCE FOR TOW TRUCK. MY SON SAID I HAD BURNT MY BRAKES.. UNSURE OTHER THAN THERE WAS SMOKE FROM SOMEPLACE UNDER CAR. I GOT DOWN AND VISUALLY AND LOOKED FOR GAS PEDAL TO BE STUCK OR ANYTHING AND IT WAS NORMAL. TRIED STARTING CAR AND IMMEDIATELY TURNED IT BACK OFF DUE TO RPMS IN RED. HAPPENED 3 SEPERATE TIMES BUT MECHANIC NEVER FOUND ANYTHING WRONG OR WHAT IT WAS SO MY DAD DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL WIRES OR SOMETHING WITH CRUISE CONTROL. CAR IDLES NOW HIGH AND RPMS RUN HIGHER THAN NORMAL. NOBODY KNOWS WHAT TO FIX SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO FIX.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2017-07-10
  • Crash: 1
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: ON JULY 10, 2017 I WAS PROCEEDING WITHIN THE SPEED LIMIT ON A CITY STREET. I NOTICED A LINE OF STOPPED CARS SOME DISTANCE AHEAD OF ME. I ATTEMPTED TO APPLY MY BRAKES, BUT IT SOON BECAME EVIDENT THAT THAT THEY WERE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THUS, MY RATE OF SPEED WAS NOT BEING SUFFICIENTLY REDUCED. I PUMPED THE BRAKES, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I THEN APPLIED A GREAT DEAL OF PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT IT MEEKLY SUNK TO THE FLOOR. BY THE TIME I WENT FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND I COLLIDED WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED. FORTUNATELY, THE OTHER DRIVER AND MYSELF WERE UNHARMED, AND THE DAMAGE TO OUR VEHICLES WAS MINIMAL. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC, AND THEY INSPECTED MY BRAKING SYSTEM. THEY NOTICED SEVERE CORROSION ON THE REAR BRAKE LINES, TO THE POINT THAT THERE WAS SERIOUS LEAKING. I HAD MY FRONT BRAKE LINES PATCHED IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR DUE TO CORROSION. IN THAT INSTANCE, I WAS FORTUNATE THAT MY INSTRUMENT PANEL ALERTED ME TO LOW BRAKE FLUID LEVELS. I WAS NOT SO LUCKY THIS TIME AROUND. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SEVERAL MECHANICS AND READ VARIOUS OTHER PROFESSIONAL OPINIONS ONLINE ABOUT THIS ERA (2007) OF FORD'S BRAKE LINES. FROM THIS INFORMATION, I HAVE GLEANED THAT THERE ARE SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE CORROSION OF BRAKE LINES. I LIVE IN A MILD CLIMATE WHERE THE ROADS ARE RARELY SALTED, AND YET I HAVE HAD THE AFOREMENTIONED EXPERIENCES. PLEASE DO WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE: IT MAY VERY WELL SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE.

Negative 2007 Ford Taurus car reviews

  1. Reuben Flatley 2024-11-15

I've owned several Taurus models over the years, including the '88, '94, '97, '02, and now the '07. In my experience, the '02 was the best overall. I appreciate a car that is reasonably sized, safe, and economical to operate. Currently, I'm averaging around 27mpg overall, with most of my driving on the interstate. I was able to achieve even better fuel efficiency with my '02, which had a 24V engine. One thing I particularly like about my current '07 model is that it has three front seatbelts, allowing for up to six passengers, which is not always available in newer sedans. If I had to make the purchase again, I would opt for the SEL model for better interior quality and additional features. However, overall, I am satisfied with this car. I have only experienced one issue so far, when the front driver side window went down but would not come back up. This only happened once, and I suspect that something may be loose.

I recently replaced my Buick Regal with an '07 Taurus. Unfortunately, I have found that this car has the worst handling I have ever experienced. The understeer is terrible and the transmission is quite slow to shift, whether slowing down or speeding up. While I understand that it is an automatic, I have found this transmission to be particularly bad. In fact, I have owned cars in the past, such as my '83 Escort, that drove and handled better than this Taurus.

There are plenty of convenient features, although it's a shame that there's only 153hp under the hood. The car rides smoothly on highways, but can be a bit jittery on rougher roads or in heavy crosswinds. It handles okay, but can feel a bit cumbersome when parking or driving around town. On the plus side, it has a huge trunk and comfortable seats. As for fuel efficiency, it's too soon to know for sure, but the computer estimates around 28mpg on the highway and 26.5mpg in town.

I recently purchased a 2007 Taurus SEL premium and unfortunately, I've had to take it to Ford for repairs for two weeks out of the month that I've owned it. As an owner of a previous 2002 Taurus, I have noticed that the quality of the 2007 model feels cheaper in comparison. Perhaps the focus on quality control was not as strong when they were selling these as fleet cars. I am disappointed with my experience with this car and have decided to sell it. I am considering going back to a Chevrolet.

I bought this car used with 130k miles on it. Now, at 156k miles, I am moving on to a newer vehicle (May 2020). Although it had a cracked head gasket, it was fixed. There were some other minor inconveniences such as a bad charging system, and the AC needing a recharge because it just blows warm air. Additionally, the engine light has been on forever for a “too lean” code. However, as long as you keep up with maintenance, it will run forever. Overall, I loved this car!

I'm so glad to hear that you love your Ford Taurus! It's great to hear that you had such a positive experience with your 1998 model, and that your 2007 model is just as impressive. Your son must be thrilled to be driving your old one now. The smooth ride and quick response, along with the up-to-date style both inside and out, make it a fantastic choice. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us!

You made a great choice with this car! It has been very reliable and travels well. You've only had one issue with the A/C, but luckily it was covered by the CPO warranty. You've put a lot of miles on it and it's still running smoothly with no mechanical problems. You even saved a lot of money compared to other popular models like the Altima, Camry, and Accord V6. Plus, you're covered by the warranty up to 100k miles. That's a great deal!

This is my moms car and was my first car to drive. We bought it used with low miles in perfect condition. I figure it was probably a rental or company car. We have had no problems at all with the car and it now has 86k miles. We have replaced all of the tires, replaced the front pads and rotors, and replaced the alternator and that's it. Personally i think the car handles and rides well for being what it is. Performance is what you would expect with 153 hp but its actually not as bad as you would think. Brakes are also very strong. The only problem with this car is the transmission is definitely slow to shift both up and down and ive heard they sometimes fail early.

I bought my 2007 SEL1 a year ago and I still have it. It's been the best car I've ever had! It's the only car that I've owned for a long time and never had any issues with the exhaust system. Even though it's getting old, it's still performing well. I highly recommend it!
