The Ford Fiesta is a supermini car that was marketed by Ford from 1976 to 2023 over seven generations. Over the years, the Fiesta has mainly been developed and manufactured by Ford's European operations, and had been positioned below the Escort (later the Focus).

Ford had sold over 15 million Fiestas from 1976 to July 2011, making it one of the best-selling Ford nameplates behind the Escort and the F-Series. It has been manufactured in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, Taiwan, China, India, Thailand, and South Africa.

The Fiesta was discontinued in 2023, after over 22 million units had been made. The final Ford Fiesta rolled off the production line on 7 July 2023.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-14
  • VIN: 3FADP4BJ3EM
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: I started to notice a bit of resistance when pressing on the brakes. Minor initially, but then if you had to apply slightly more pressure the car would jerk/pull hard to the right. The harder and faster you had to press, the more intense the jerk. I took her in to the dealership and they noticed something with the reservoir into the hydraulics unit that feeds fluid into the brakes.  The fluids are not circulating back into it and the caliper is not building enough pressure to close. They said it's the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit: D2BZ-2C405-E and the part is on national backorder with no ETA. The car is unsafe to drive without the part. She's a 2014 with only 28k miles and it seems strange to have this failure with such low mileage. I just have texts with the dealership right now. I spoke with Ford directly today and they guesstimated 5-6 months for the part. I ordered a used part and will take her to another mechanic to get it replaced in the interim since the dealership won't work with a used part. At that point I will have invoices. Thanks.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-06-13
  • VIN: 3FADP4BE1EM
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: On a long road trip with my mother while accelerating onto a highway I heard a metal object from the front right of my car drop onto the road. Subsequently, I heard a minor clanking/rattling noise every now and then but everything was operating normally and I could not connect any driving actions to this noise. Later on I looked under the vehicle for any loose hanging objects but could see none. When I got home I went to my home Ford dealer they were charging an exorbitant diagnostic fee so I went to a different dealer with a more reasonable fee. I was asked if I recently had my brakes serviced to which I replied yes. I was told there was a missing upper right caliper bolt. This explained the noise I heard of a metal object dropping. I brought it to the attention of the service manager of my home dealer. I was reimbursed by my home dealer for the cost of the diagnosis and repair at the other dealer. Some months later there was management shakeup of personnel and I learned that the service manager and technicians that I spoke with were replaced. I didn't think much at the time that it was anything more than carelessness but I came across some new information. The use of Torque to Yield (TTY) bolts in vehicle safety related components presents a safety hazard. These type of bolts are one-time or single use. They are indistinguishable from traditional bolts. Once torqued to specification, the loosening of these bolts will cause them to fail. They complicate routine maintenance, require more precise equipment, and leave a lot to chance of human error. Improper installation or reuse of these bolts will lead to catastrophic failure. General ignorance among professional trained mechanics, as well as auto part stores, DIY vehicle owners, as well as lack of labeling, and lack of proper warning from vehicle manufacturers is a recipe for disaster. Vehicle manufacturers should not use these bolts for safety related vehicle components. Vehicle owners should be informed.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-11-27
  • VIN: 3FADP4BJ7EM
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: When a rear seat passenger exits the vehicle and closes the door, the rear door does not latch properly. This causes the door to swing open while the car is moving. The vehicle is available for inspection. The problem has manifested itself on several occasions, especially when I am dropping off school children at their stop. The crossing guard has been kind enough to close the door for me. That is, he closes the door after it swings open. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer or repair shop (yet). The problem first appeared last week, after the Thanksgiving holiday break. There were no symptoms to warn of the problem. It just appeared out of the blue, so to speak. To describe the problem further: The door is closed by the passenger who has just exited the car. There is no "door open" light to indicate a problem. Then, after a few seconds, the door springs open and the "door open" light appears. It is annoying when it happens. It is also a safety issue.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-10-03
  • VIN: 3FADP4AJ4EM
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I was driving on the highway on October 3 and suddenly my vehicle stalled on me. When I pressed the gas pedal, the vehicle no longer moved. I had the vehicle towed to my house and had a mechanic do a diagnostics. The mechanics thinks the issue could be the computer or the transmission not communicating with the computer. The vehicle can no longer shift gear and it can not crank as well. It is very dangerous for a vehicle to stall in the middle of highway like this. The 18 wheeler behind me barely missed me and it could have been a fatality if I was hit in the rear. Thanks god I managed to pull to the center median and had a friend come help towe the vehicle to my house.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-10-27
  • VIN: 3FADP4EJ4EM
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I am remembering one incident I had years ago. It was my first year since I got my first driver license. I parked my car. While I was getting off with half of my body already outside the car, my car started moving forward. I jumped back in a car in a shock and tried to stop the car. I realized that I had not removed my car key. I also realized that a stick shift was in neutral position. I told myself that it was my wrong-doing, but after reading numerous complaints and lawsuits against Ford Fiesta over the last years, I am not so sure if it was my fault or the car's defect. It happened only once and can not reproduce this. Around the same time, I have also experienced car not starting several times but again I told myself I am just an idiot for not knowing how to start a car. I did Pre-Purchase Car Inspection in October 2016. The inspection report noted that my car had Engine Lights on with code U0131 and codeC0051. I received a CSP14M02 letter last Sunday and went to the dealership on Monday for TCM repair or replacement, but I was turned away.

A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
  • Consequence: A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
  • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace all four door latches with an improved part, free of charge. Interim notifications were mailed to owners on June 5, 2015. The recall began on December 18, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S16.

Negative 2014 Ford Fiesta car reviews

I purchased a 2014 Ford Fiesta, but unfortunately, I have had some issues with it. The engine stopped working after just three years, but luckily it was still under warranty and the dealer replaced it for me. However, I have since experienced some other problems such as a leaking coolant system, intermittent issues with the AC system, and a malfunctioning radio. Today, I encountered a transmission malfunction which caused me some concern. Although I had to start the engine a few times before it worked properly, I was eventually able to get it going. I am unsure of the exact issue with my car and how much it will cost to fix, but I am hopeful that it can be resolved.

As of 2020, the models have been discontinued due to their poor performance. The transmission has been known to be problematic and the rear suspension is not as good as the front. The engine lacks torque when starting from a standstill and the gas economy is not as good as advertised. While the EPA estimated 29/39, my trip computer at 15,841 miles showed only 17mpg city and 26 on the highway. However, I believe that Ford can improve this with further investigation. The car was assembled in Mexico, but I have had better experiences with cars assembled in Michigan. Despite these issues, I appreciate the hard work of the Mexican people who assembled the car. At 36,000 miles, the gas economy is still poor for a subcompact this size, but I believe that Ford is doing their best to address the issue. Overall, I think that the Ford Fiesta has room for improvement, but I am hopeful that Ford will continue to make progress. The back seat is quite cramped and may not be comfortable for passengers with long legs. The fuel economy is not as high as one would expect from a car like this. The outside convex mirrors are designed to help you see cars in the blind spot, but they may cause a misperception of how close the curb is when parking. There have been some issues with the engine warning light, but upon inspection, nothing seems to be wrong. Sometimes the car does not start properly, which can be concerning. Overall, I would not recommend buying this car and I believe Ford should have recalled the whole batch and remodeled the whole line. If you are considering the Fiesta or the Focus, I strongly recommend taking out a 7-year extended warranty to prevent yourself from going broke on repairs after the basic warranty expires. As of 2018, there is a class action lawsuit for both the Ford Fiesta and the Ford Focus, so I suggest avoiding these cars, especially for model years 2013-2018 and beyond. Ford never recalled them to change the defective parts. Ford is scrapping all Ford Focus production as of 2018 because the car shares a lot of the same defective parts (especially the transmission) as the Ford Fiesta. They are redesigning the focus into a crossover, skipping production in 2019 and that car will be available in 2020. They have installed a newly designed 8-speed transmission. However, it is important to note that the transmission in the focus and fiesta had some issues in the past. Nevertheless, Ford has not recalled or replaced it. It would have been better if they had used the transmission in the fusion which has proved to be trouble-free. The car will be assembled in China. While the Chinese are known for many great things, car assembly is not one of them. It is advisable to wait until Ford proves to us that their quality has improved before considering buying this car. If you want to know more about the repair history of the focus and the fiesta, you can check out Consumer Reports' April 2018 edition or any edition after. They have conducted surveys with hundreds of thousands of consumers and do not recommend buying these cars. You can find their report in the library or online.

I purchased my first car, a used vehicle, back in June 2018 with 46k miles on it. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bit of a headache for me. Looking back, I realize that I could have done more research before buying it, but that's water under the bridge now. The first issue I encountered was with the MyKey setting, which locked the audio at 14 and the speakers were not great. They would pop even at low volumes. A few weeks later, the window on the passenger side stopped working with its button, and I had to use the controls on the driver's side to lower it. A couple of months later, the latch on the rear-left passenger door went bad while I was on the highway. I had to hold the door while driving for 15 minutes, which was quite a workout. The next month, the door latch on the driver's side went out. After that, the car worked fine for about a year with regular maintenance, but then disaster struck, and the constant repairs started. First, it was the terminal connector on the positive side, which corroded off for some unknown reason. I couldn't find a replacement anywhere, not even at the dealership, AutoZone, or eBay. I ended up using a similar terminal from an older Ford Focus. Skipping ahead, the transmission started having problems at 60k miles, and it turned out to be a TCM failure, according to Ford mechanics. Luckily, it was still covered under the powertrain warranty, but it wasn't even that. It turned out that the car had a grounding problem, and one side of the engine (battery side) was grounded, but the other half (alternator side) wasn't, so it was frying my starter. After months of dealing with the Ford dealership, a Latino workshop ended up saving the little car by just jumping the battery negative terminal to the alternator. For the last 2 weeks that I had it before trading it in, it worked fine, but I wasn't going to risk it.Luckily, my local Toyota dealer paid off my car in full and even gave me a check back for the same amount as my down payment. How cool is that? I am now driving a 2018 Camry SE and so far, it has been great. I am already considering upgrading to the XSE. In summary, I would advise against buying a Ford.

Despite having had the transmission in my Ford Focus hatchback 2014 repaired several times since purchasing it 7 months ago, it still hesitates or slips when I pull out. I have taken it back to the dealership multiple times, but the issue persists. However, I am now covered by a new warranty from Ford for 10 years or 100,000 miles, so I will continue to drive it until the issue is resolved. I have been diligent in maintaining the car through my local Ford dealership, where I originally purchased it. Despite the ongoing litigation, I remain confident that the issue will be resolved satisfactorily.

I purchased this car at 33k miles and unfortunately experienced a head crack just 600 miles past the 60k power train warranty. This caused the car to overheat and ultimately fail. As a result, I am now facing financial difficulties and may have to consider filing for bankruptcy. It is frustrating to know that the issues my car has were recalled in Europe, but not in the US. I believe that Ford should take responsibility for this situation and provide support to their customers.

Positive 2014 Ford Fiesta car reviews

Congratulations on your new Ford Fiesta! As someone who has previously owned two large Ford Broncos, downsizing to the Fiesta may have been a big change for you. However, it's great to hear that you're finding the Fiesta to be surprisingly spacious, even for someone of your size. The Recaro seats may be a snug fit, but they're definitely worth trying out for anyone who is looking for a comfortable ride. It's impressive to hear that you're blown away by the power of this little car, and it's always fun to see people's reactions when they realize just how much power it has. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

What a stunning performance from the naturally aspirated 1.6 litre twin cam engine coupled to a five speed manual gearbox! As a sports car fan and owner of a Triumph Spitfire, I can say that the Fiesta Titanium I have is a close second in terms of handling. Plus, the fuel economy is amazing, with as little as 6.1 L/100 km or around 46 miles/US gallon. This vehicle is truly an economical pleasure to drive, and it comes with many creature comforts and helpful accessories. Gone are the days of the old tin box Fiestas - this modern iteration from Ford is a real winner!

  4. Rocky Altenwerth 2024-08-24

We bought this manual transmission 2014 Fiesta 1.6L Titanium new and it is still going strong at 310,000 km's! The only parts that needed replacing, other than regular maintenance items, were a water pump and a starter. We are thoroughly impressed with it and would definitely buy it again!
