2015 Infiniti Qx70 problems

The Infiniti QX70, formerly called the Infiniti FX until 2013, is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by the Nissan-owned Infiniti luxury vehicle brand between 2002 and 2017. The FX replaced the QX4 as Infiniti's mid-size SUV. It shares the same FM platform as the rear-wheel drive Nissan 370Z, and it "made no claims of climbing mountains." Rather, its aggressive shape promised style and quick handling. The similarly sized Nissan Murano is based on the same D platform as the front-wheel drive Nissan Altima. The FX does not have a Nissan-branded equivalent and is not sold in Japan.

The FX introduced its second generation for the 2009 model year as the FX35 and FX50.

First generation (S50; 2003)

The nameplates FX35 and FX45 refer to the two available engines. The FX35 is available in two drivetrains, the RWD and the AWD, which are both fitted to a dual overhead cam 3.5-liter 24-valve V6 VQ35DE gasoline engine, with aluminum-alloy block and heads, electronically controlled throttle system, and low-friction molybdenum-coated pistons that makes use of the continuous variable valve timing which in part optimizes the opening of intake valves. This is also coupled with an electronically controlled super-wide ratio five-speed automatic with a manumatic shift mode that includes the option of sequentially selected manual gearshifts and downshift rev-matching.

The AWD FX45 incorporates a 4.5 L (4,494 cc) 32-valve V8 DOHC VK45DE gasoline engine with four valves per cylinder, microfinished camshafts with aluminum-alloy block and heads, low-friction molybdenum-coated pistons, titanium intake and exhaust valves, modular cylinder heads, microfinished crankshaft, lightweight pistons, super-silent single stage cam drive chain, and a Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System that optimizes opening of intake valves. Development began in 1999 under newly appointed CEO Carlos Ghosn's NRP. Design work was completed in rapid succession in 2000, for late 2002 production. Designed prior to that, earlier on in 2000 under the "Bionic Cheetah" theme, the 2001 Infiniti FX45 Concept was introduced at the NAIAS in January 2001. From mid-2001, a new concept based on the production design was developed and completed in late 2001. Sketches were first released in late November 2001. The second-generation 2002 FX45 Concept was introduced in January 2002 at the NAIAS '02 as a thinly-veiled production FX (S50) and planned production was announced for early 2003. In January 2003, the 2003 FX45 made its debut at the 2003 NAIAS and went on sale January 24, 2003.

In 2003 for the 2004 model, changes were the addition of a standard eight-way power front passenger seat that replaced the previous four-way design, the availability of aluminum roof rails and chrome-plated 20-inch wheels. Also new were a dark silver metallic finish for the 20-inch wheels (non-chrome-plated), the addition of a standard HVAC filter for all models and the addition of a new Snow-Mode function.

In September 2004 for the 2005 model year, the FX range received enhancements such as a lane departure warning (LDW) system that helps alert drivers to an unintended movement of the vehicle out of a designated traffic lane. Infiniti's system monitored the lane markings to alert passengers via an audible buzzer that the driver is drifting unintentionally. The LDW system, which utilizes a small camera, speed sensor, an indicator, and an audible warning buzzer, was offered on models. The 2005 Infiniti FX was the first passenger vehicle to offer a lane departure warning system in the United States market. In addition to LDW, the 2005 Infiniti FX range was now equipped with standard roof-mounted curtain supplemental curtain airbags with rollover protection for front and rear outboard seat occupants.

Other changes included the addition of a dark chrome grille, headlight, and clear taillight accents to the FX45 (also available as part of the V6 Sport Package on FX35 models), a new key fob design for the Infiniti Intelligent Key system, and two new exterior colors, Sapphire and Sheer Platinum. Interior changes included a new standard etched aluminum trim.

Total 2007 sales of the FX45 were 1,598 units, about a tenth of the FX35s.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-05-16
  • VIN: JN8CS1MW5FM
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: I was backing out of the garage intending to stop on the driveway and inspect tires in the sunlight. The brakes had no effect and the car proceeded across the street and up the neighbor's driveway and finally stopped just short of their garage door. All this time I was applying the brake repeatedly with no result. Why it stopped just in time to save neighbor's door I don't know. I was too panicked to think of using the parking brake until later. A similar incident had occurred about a year ago in a restaurant drive-through. At that time I rear-ended the car in front about instantly, the cars were so close together. It happened so fast I thought maybe I had pushed both accelerator and brake with one foot, so I called it driver error and thought no more about it. This time there was plenty of time and no doubt about it, I applied the brakes many times and nothing worked until right at the top of their driveway. The current incident happened on May 16, 2021. I had taken the car (Infiniti QX70) to Nissan Reno on May 14 for oil change, filter, and brake fluid exchange, since Infiniti Reno was closed until further notice. The timing makes me wonder whether something happened during the fluid exchange. I haven't been back to Nissan Reno, not sure whether to trust them. This was reported to Ask Infiniti web site, and their suggestion was to take the car to nearest open Infiniti dealer in Roseville CA about 120 miles away. With questionable brakes? I don't think so.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-12-07
  • VIN: JN8CS1MW3FM
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: FOR MY 2015 INFINITY QX70, I WAS TOLD THE AIR BAG MODULE WITHIN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THE OCCUPANCY CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (OCS) WHICH IS PART OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM HAVE BOTH GONE BAD THIS FRIDAY CAUSING MY SENSOR LIGHT TO COME ON. THE DEALER IS SAYING THE ONLY WAY TO REPAIR IT IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SEAT, WHICH I VERY SELDOM EVER HAVE ANYONE IN MY CAR. BOTH THE QX50 & QX60 HAVE RECALLS FOR THE SAME THING, BUT THE QX70 DOES NOT. THE LIGHT JUST CAME ON FRIDAY MORNING, WITH NO ADVANCE NOTIFICATION OR ISSUES. I'M TOLD THE REPLACEMENT PART FOR THE AIR BAG MODULE IS 873003GW4B AND THE OCS SENSOR IS K88206W0Y0A

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2017-05-30
  • VIN: JN8CS1MW3FM
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: THE SUNROOF EXPLODED AT APPROX 8AM 5/30/2017. THE EXPLOSION WAS PRECEDED BY A RATTLING NOISE, THEN A VERY LOUD AND SCARY BANG. I WAS TRAVELING APPROX 65 MPH ON I80 W (BETWEEN VACAVILLE AND FAIRFIELD CALIFORNIA). MORNING TEMPERATURE MILD--PROBABLY IN THE UPPER 60'S. I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND FOUND THE SUNROOF GLASS HAD FIRST EXPANDED THEN SHATTERED. BECAUSE THE INSIDE ROOF DOOR WAS CLOSED, SHARDS OF GLASS DID NOT FALL INTO THE CAR, BUT THEY DID DO SOME DAMAGE TO THE PAINT JOB. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHO HAD ME BRING IT IN THE NEXT DAY--I WAS TOLD THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY MY WARRANTY NOR MY EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY BELIEVED SOMETHING HIT THE GLASS. WHEN I TOLD THEM NOTHING HIT THE GLASS AND POINTED TO THE EXPANSION OF THE GLASS THEY STILL REFUSED TO COVER THE REPAIR. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO START FARM INSURANCE AND THEY COVERED THE $1850 REPAIR BILL. MY CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 2 WEEKS BECAUSE THE REPLACEMENT GLASS ORDERED BY THE DEALERSHIP ARRIVED SHATTERED TOO. THEY MUST BE USING INFERIOR THIN GLASS TO HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN!

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-10-23
  • VIN: JN8CS1MU3FM
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: WHEN SITTING WITH THE VEHICLE STOPPED, SUCH AS AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL FADES AND THE PEDAL ALMOST GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR.
2015-12-09

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-10-01
  • VIN: JN8CS1MU8FM
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: THE INTERIOR COURTESY LIGHTS UNDER THE DASH REMAIN ON WHEN CAR IS RUNNING. DURING NIGHT TIME DRIVING THIS IS VERY DISTRACTING TO ATTENTIVE SAFE DRIVING. ACCORDING TO INFINITI, THIS WAS ENGINEERIED TO REMAIN ON AND THERE IS NO WAY TO TURN THE LIGHT OFF. THE CHANGE TO THE LIGHTING WAS DONE ON MODELS BEGINING WITH 2014. IN EARLIER MODELS ALL THE AMBIENT LIGHTS GO OUT WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-05-19
  • VIN: JN1BY1AR0FM
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: THE VEHICLE CONSISTENTLY EXHIBITS A SHUDDER (VIBRATION, TREMOR) WHEN (1) THE VEHICLE IS WARMED (DRIVEN AT LEAST 10 MILES FROM COLD START), (2) MOVING AT A SPEED ABOVE APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, AND (3) THE THROTTLE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. USUALLY, BUT NOT CONSISTENTLY, THE SHUDDER IMMEDIATELY DISSIPATES WHEN PRESSURE TO THE THROTTLE PEDAL IS RELEASED OR WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS PUT INTO NEUTRAL WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN INTO AND IN A RIGHT HAND CURVE, THE SHUDDER IS NOT PRESENT REGARDLESS OF ANY OR NO PRESSURE ON THE THROTTLE PEDAL. IN A LEFT HAND CURVE, HOWEVER, THE SHUDDER IS PRESENT OFTEN WITHOUT ANY THROTTLE PRESSURE. WHEN COASTING ON A STRAIGHTAWAY THE VEHICLE TYPICALLY, BUT NOT CONSISTENTLY, EXHIBITS NO VIBRATION. INFINITI HAS FOUND THIS DEFECT IN OTHER Q70S SINCE MY REPORTING OF THE PROBLEM ON 20 MAY 2015. CAUSE/SOURCE OF PROBLEM HAS NOT YET BEEN IDENTIFIED TO MY KNOWLEDGE. IMPLICATION OF PROBLEM ON VEHICLE SAFETY, IF ANY, HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED.

SEAT BELTS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-04-10
  • VIN: 5N1AL0MN5FC
  • Components: SEAT BELTS
  • Summary: IN A WEEK OLD QX-70 WITH ONLY 448 TOTAL MILES, WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, I LEANED FORWARD SLIGHTLY AND LEFT SIDE (FLOOR ANCHOR SIDE) OF DRIVER'S SIDE SEATBELT FAILED BY THE HIP WEBBING SEPARATING FROM THE FLOOR ATTACHMENT POINT. THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT SIDE ATTACHMENT THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE DETACHABLE, BUT THE LEFT FLOOR ANCHOR SIDE. HAD THIS OCCURRED IN AN IMPACT I WOULD HAVE BEEN INJURED. THIS ATTACHMENT POINT IS OF A STRANGE AND ILLOGICAL DESIGN IN THAT IT HAS A PROBE SIMILAR TO THE REGULAR ENTRY/EXIT SEAT BELT ATTACHMENT. EITHER IN INSTALLATION OR MANUFACTURE THIS FLOOR ATTACHMENT DEVICE WAS EITHER NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY OR IS OF A POOR DESIGN. I AM A RETIRED MILITARY AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT INVESTIGATOR, SAFETY OFFICER, INDUSTRIAL SAFETY MANAGER, CERTIFIED SAFETY PROFESSIONAL, OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY TECHNICIAN AND AN OSHA AUTHORIZED OUTREACH INSTRUCTOR AS WELL AS A SAFETY ENGINEER. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL OF INJURY AND/OR DEATH WITH OTHERS IF THIS SEAT BELT ATTACHMENT PROBLEM IS COMMON. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT INFINITI AND NISSAN USES THIS SAME DESIGN. THE DEALER HAS BEEN EXCELLENT IN IMMEDIATELY STARTING AN IN-COMPANY INVESTIGATION, BUT I VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS FAILURE. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHS AVAILABLE FOR EMAIL. *TR

Negative 2015 Infiniti Qx70 car reviews

  1. Roscoe Sporer 2024-10-19

The car unfortunately has a dangerous blind spot at the driver's rear right side. Additionally, I had to replace the transmission at 74K miles, only 4K miles past the bumper-to-bumper warranty. I contacted Infiniti Consumer Affairs to see if they could offer any assistance, but unfortunately they declined. The transmission ended up costing me $2,500. To make matters worse, at 85K miles, the clear coat finish is wearing off in multiple areas and looks terrible. While I could bring it to a body shop and have the clear coat and all the paint sanded off and have the entire car repainted, that would cost me thousands of dollars. This was my first

Hello! I recently had the pleasure of comparing a used QX70 to a QX50. While I was originally looking at 2015 models or earlier, I found that the QX70 was just too big for me. As someone who is 5'-4

Positive 2015 Infiniti Qx70 car reviews

  1. Elliott Nader 2024-11-29

So glad to hear that you've owned this car for almost 4 years now and have only needed to replace the rear brake pad! It's always great to hear about a car that's reliable and low maintenance. I understand that you may be missing some of the latest technology that other cars have, such as the early departure warning, but overall it sounds like you've had a positive experience with this car.

  2. Norval Casper 2024-11-29

0-60 in 4.8 seconds. This is the first stat potential FX50 or V8 QX70 owners should consider. The car handles like it's velcroed to the road, especially in the rain. It's firmly pegged on the 'Sport' end of the SUV spectrum, and these unique finds benefit significantly from a more involved driver's hand. While clearly geared toward fuel economy, I've observed a surprising 19.5 MPG over three months' worth of mixed driving. The seven-speed's 'Drive Sport' mode is a must-engage when turning onto the twisties, but only full manumatic, keeping RPMs above 3k, unleashes the bionic cheetah within. This is my third Nissan-sourced V8, and it has a more Ferrari-esque take in terms of factory tuning for horsepower over torque. That said, you will feel the extra hundred foot-pounds of twist, compared to the 3.5 or 3.7 sixes, with any significant change in elevation. Despite a somewhat CX-yawn exterior, the 2014's enlarged grill (masking dual engine air intakes), 21' custom Enkei rims, and 5.0 side badges subtly communicate that this beast shares 370Z & GT-R DNA and would best be left to prowl far afield from the minivan-ified crossover herd. Three years on, the '14 QX70 5.0 continues to impress with its excellent build quality, decent fuel economy, and wonderful driving dynamics. Year Number Six & Remus, our '14 QX70 5.0 is heading south for the rest of his duty years: just shy of 100k miles & still a blast to drive. Very much looking forward to shaking of the WV mountain dust, indulging in a full detail, & embracing another +200k miles of Salt Life! Zero unexpected repairs, just the normal brakes/fluids/tires.

  3. Barry Fay 2024-10-09

This is my third Infinity. Two x35's and now the X70. Obviously, you can tell that I love this car. Its distinctive styling and performance make it my all-time favorite.

  4. Jonas Tromp 2024-04-12

Beautiful, comfortable car with all the bells and whistles. It's great to hear that you're enjoying it! I understand that you miss the better gas mileage and more cargo space of your previous car, but I hope that the other features make up for it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!
