2007 Ford Fusion problems

The Ford Fusion is a mid-size car that was manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. From the 2006 through 2020 model years, two generations of the Fusion have been produced in gasoline, gas/electric hybrid, and gas/plug-in electric hybrid variants. The Fusion was manufactured at Ford's Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly plant in Sonora, Mexico, alongside the Lincoln MKZ, and formerly the Mercury Milan, both of which share its CD3 platform.
Production on the first Fusions began on August 1, 2005. The Fusion replaced the Mondeo for the Latin American markets—except in Argentina (where the current European Mondeo is available) and in the United States and Canada (where it superseded the then mid-size Taurus and the compact Contour). The Fusion is positioned between the compact Ford Focus and the full-size Ford Taurus. In the Middle East, this model is sold alongside the Mondeo. Versions sold there are available only with the 2.5-liter engine. Unlike in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, no V6 engine is available in that region. The same is true in South Korea, where only the 2.5-liter engines (including those for the hybrid model) are available as of the 2012 model year.
The second generation line-up includes a gasoline engine option, an EcoBoost engine option, a next-generation hybrid model, and a plug-in hybrid version, the Ford Fusion Energi, making the Ford Fusion the first production sedan to offer these four options. Sales of the gasoline-powered and hybrid versions began in the U.S. in October 2012 under the 2013 model. Sales in Europe and Asia as Ford Mondeo began in 2015, along with South Africa, where the Fusion name was used. Deliveries of the Fusion Energi began in the U.S. in February 2013. The entire 2013 Fusion line-up was awarded with the 2013 Green Car of the Year at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. In 2019, the Fusion was the seventh-best selling car in the United States.

Common 2007 Ford Fusion problems
The Ford Fusion 2007 is known to have several common problems, which include key/ignition problems, steering problems, and transmission issues.
Key/Ignition Problems
One of the most common issues with the 2007 Ford Fusion is the key/ignition problem, which was particularly prevalent in the 2000-2003 models. This problem involves the key getting stuck in the ignition, making it difficult to remove. The solution to this problem is to replace the ignition, which can cost around $300.
Steering Problems
Another common problem with the 2007 Ford Fusion is steering problems, which were particularly prevalent in the 2012-2014 models. The power steering mechanism in these models is prone to failure, making the vehicle challenging to steer, especially at lower speeds. This problem is the focus of a factory recall, and it is recommended to check if the particular model of Ford Fusion being considered has had this issue addressed.
Transmission Problems
The 2007 Ford Fusion is also known to have transmission problems, which can manifest as transmission slips, jerks, burning smells coming from the transmission, and difficulty shifting. These problems are particularly prevalent in the 2012-2014 models, which have more owner-reported transmission problems than all other years combined. The average Ford Fusion transmission repair costs can range from $1,500 to $3,500, making it one of the most expensive repairs for this vehicle. It is recommended to avoid driving a Ford Fusion with an unreliable transmission off the lot.
Other Common Problems
In addition to the key/ignition, steering, and transmission problems, the 2007 Ford Fusion is also known to have other common problems. These include a faulty speedometer, water on the steering column, swollen lug nuts, and squeaking. The solutions to these problems vary, and it is recommended to consult a mechanic for advice on how to address them.
In conclusion, the 2007 Ford Fusion is known to have several common problems, including key/ignition problems, steering problems, and transmission issues. It is recommended to be aware of these problems and to consult a mechanic for advice on how to address them.

Although my vehicle does not appear to be affected by the recall, it seems very similar to the brake issues I experienced.

- Summary: In January of 2020 and again in October of 2020, I received recall notices regarding the recall of the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) per the 19S54 / 19V-904 recall notice. Once the part was available, I scheduled the work and brought my Fusion to DCH Ford of Eatontown 764. The dealership looked at the HCU and said it was not affected and not in need of replacement. Days later, I tried to drive my car and had no braking capability, save the emergency hand brake. The Fusion was towed to the dealer and it was determined that the HCU failed. It was months before an HCU was available, so the car sat with the dealer until August 2021. I have the repair records showing the part that was replaced is the 2C215 HCU Module, the exact part that is outlined in the recall notice. Ford will not consider the repair under the recall because the recall closed when the vehicle was inspected in April. Despite many emails and telephone calls, Ford is now not responding to any contact and will not consider the repair bill under the recall notification.

I purchased this car brand new in September of 2007 and absolutely loved it from the moment I drove it off the lot. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues when it reached around 34,000 miles. While it was inconvenient to have it break down on the side of the road, the dealership was able to provide me with a rental car while they fixed the issue. Although the repair cost me $240, I was grateful to receive a reimbursement of $60 from Ford. Recently, I had to have the transmission rebuilt, which took three weeks, but the dealership was kind enough to provide me with a loaner car during that time. While I did experience another breakdown last week, I am confident that the dealership will be able to fix the issue and get me back on the road soon. Thank you for your understanding.

I used to drive a Taurus for many years. It's a great car with plenty of trunk space that is all usable, unlike some cars with bumpy trunks that make it difficult to lay suitcases flat. The V6 engine is also incredibly powerful.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my thoughts on this vehicle after driving it for a month. One thing I really appreciate about Ford's cars is their conservative interior design. Everything is in its place and the quality feels great. Some people have mentioned engine noise on the 4 cylinder, but I personally don't find it too bothersome. Overall, it's a really fun mid-size car to drive. I'm also impressed with the fuel economy - it gets about as good of mileage as the Focus I used to own. It makes my 30 mile commute to work a breeze and I genuinely enjoy driving it. Thanks for reading!

I'm so glad I chose the Fusion over an Impala or used Camry! It's been a great car for our family. We've taken it on long trips (~400 miles) with our young child (under a year old) and had plenty of room for everything. I've been getting great gas mileage too - averaging 32-34 MPG on two-lane highways, 29-30 MPG on the interstate, and overall about 27 MPG. The only downside is the turning radius, but I knew that before buying the car. It's been a joy to drive and I highly recommend it!

This is my first Ford and I bought it based on a list of the most reliable cars. The Fusion was the only American car on the list (which is a shame), but I fell in love with it at first sight. It handles great and has the room I need with a child on the way. The car handles especially well around sharp turns, and I know the AWD will come in handy this winter! I highly recommend this car to anyone who wants a sporty yet family-friendly vehicle.

I bought my 2007 Ford Fusion SE in October 2007, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a lemon. Within the first year, I had a major problem and Hixon Ford in Monroe, Louisiana gave me a new battery, but unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. Despite the change in management, my issue remained unresolved and I had to bear the out-of-pocket expenses. After consulting with our mechanic friend, we found out that there were many complaints about Ford Fusions. I submitted a Lemon Law complaint, contacted Ford Motor Company Corporate Office and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). After seven years, Hixon Ford finally reached out to me, but unfortunately, it was too late to replace my car. However, they did apologize for the inconvenience and expenses I had to bear. Ms. Debbie assured me that if I were to purchase another car from them, they would take better care of me. Although I had to replace many parts, I decided to keep my car.

Hi there! As an electrical engineer working with a well-known company that designs electrical hardware, I understand the importance of reliable and long-lasting parts. Unfortunately, I recently experienced an issue with the PCM controller in my Ford vehicle. Despite normal conditions, the controller failed unexpectedly after only 94k miles. I was surprised that this issue wasn't caught during the design reviews or performance/reliability testing. As a loyal Ford customer with 2 other Ford vehicles, I was disappointed by this experience. I hope that Ford can improve their quality control measures to prevent similar issues in the future.

The interior of the car has had a few issues. The door handle panel broke off within a month of having it, and the wheel (1 of 4) is slightly larger in diameter, giving it an out of balance feel when driving. The rivet that attaches to the sunroof came off 1 1/2 years after I bought it. The CD player started acting up 2 years after I bought it. The electronic system (fuses, etc.) went out on me a little over a month ago. I had to change out a few fuses, but now I have no A/C, and for a few days, I had no working fuel gauge. The same door handle panel broke off again. The car has an extremely poor turning radius, and the molding on top of the roof by the doors started cracking a few months ago. The O2 sensors started acting up before I even hit 50K miles.

This car may give you a smooth ride, but it requires constant maintenance. Unfortunately, I had to replace the motor at 110,000 miles and have had to replace multiple AC components, including compressors, expansion valves, and condensers. Despite these repairs, the AC still doesn't work. Additionally, I had to replace the motor mount and CV axles, which is understandable for a car with 125,000 miles. However, during the CV axle replacement, the shop had difficulty removing the axles from the steering knuckle and ended up breaking their press. While the repairs were costly, the shop did their best to fix the issues. Overall, my experience with this car has been challenging and I would not recommend it to others.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my Fusion. When I first got it, I was blown away by how well it handled the bumpy roads here in MA. Plus, I was able to take a 1600 mile road trip and only spent $200 on gas! However, I have had a few issues with the car in the last six months. The radio text stopped working and I had some trouble with the key getting stuck in the ignition, which turned out to be a computer panel problem. Unfortunately, the car won't start even with a new battery and clean connectors. I hope this helps!
