The Dodge Stratus is a mid-size car that was introduced by Dodge in December 1994 and was based on the 4-door sedan Chrysler JA platform. The Stratus, Plymouth Breeze, and Chrysler Cirrus were all on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1996 and 1997. It received critical acclaim at launch, but ratings fell over time. An updated version of the Stratus was introduced for 2001, with the Cirrus being renamed as the Chrysler Sebring, and a coupé model was also added to the range. Production ended in early 2006 at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant after building 1,308,123 Stratus and Sebrings since 2000.

The Dodge Avenger replaced the Stratus nameplate in early 2007 for the 2008 model year.

After the discontinuation of the Stratus sedan in 2006, the assembly line and tooling were sold to the Russian concern, GAZ, which manufactured 9,000 units of a very slightly modified Stratus from 2008 through 2010 called the Volga Siber.

My stepbrother has owned a '98 for about a year and is constantly bringing it to me asking me to fix this and that. The thing rides like a hotwheels on concrete, you can feel every bump in the road. When you hit the throttle, first of all, it feels like you're going nowhere and second, the 4 cyl engine is quite noisy. However, I personally prefer Ford over Dodge.

I bought my Dodge in December 1998. We quickly found out that the heating system is excellent. Currently, we have approximately 82kms. The ride is fair, but we are starting to experience all sorts of suspension creaks. Unfortunately, we have had the usual head gasket and transmission cooler lines leaking, but as an auto mechanic, I can fix them myself. The brake system is disappointing, though. We have put on approximately 70kms in less than 5 years, and I'm already on the 4th set of brake pads!!! Other than that, it's a pretty good car.

Hi there! I noticed that this car has gone through 2 headgaskets in the first 60,000 miles and is currently in need of ball joint replacement. Also, it seems that it's difficult to see out of the rear window. I understand that it might be frustrating, but please remember that sometimes you get what you pay for. Is there anything else I can help you with?

The car has a great look and runs well, although it may require some repairs. It has been driven for 70,000 miles and has gone through 4 sets of brakes, which could be improved. The newer models have larger rotors and pads, indicating that Chrysler is aware of the issue. At 60,000 miles, the head gasket needed to be replaced, causing oil leakage. While I had a negative experience with this Chrysler product, I appreciate the opportunity to share my feedback.

Let's be honest, this car can be a lot of fun to drive when it's not in the shop (and let's face it, bills are never fun). However, it's important to note that it may require some maintenance before it becomes truly reliable. Once you replace the transmission, engine, and brakes, you can count on it to be a dependable ride.

Your '98 ES sounds like a fantastic car! It has been a reliable companion for you, with over 113,000 miles on it. It's great to hear that it has been solid, fun to drive, and has good power when you need it. Other than routine maintenance and new tires, you haven't had to do anything to it. It's a shame that the A/C has lost its charge, but it's nothing that can't be fixed with new hoses and refrigerant. I hope you get many more miles out of it!

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your car! It's amazing that even with 100,000 miles on it, it still runs great. It sounds like you have a lot of fun driving it, especially with its sporty handling. And getting great mileage is always a plus! Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us.

It's so great to hear that you've had such a positive experience with your car! You've really put in the miles since you bought it back in 1998, and it's amazing that you've just hit 100K. It's fantastic that you haven't had any major issues with it, and that the regular tune ups and repairs have kept it running smoothly. It's clear that you have a real connection with this car, and it's great to hear that you're still enjoying driving it after all these years. If you ever need a new car, it's wonderful to hear that you would seriously consider another Stratus.

I now have 90k miles on my Stratus and have had only one problem so far, which is the head gasket leaking oil. This seems to be a common issue with this car. However, I still find it fun to drive and it looks great. I absolutely love this car and am even considering getting a new one!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I purchased it used from a dealer and it was certified. It has a 2.4L, 4 cyl engine and had 54k miles on it when I bought it. Since then, I've taken great care of it by putting in Mobil One synthetic oil, getting all four brakes done, and a tune-up. Now, it has 66k miles on it and I absolutely love it! It's incredibly reliable, looks great, has an amazing sound system, and handles really well. I recently did a highway mileage test where I drove 150 miles, set the cruise for 62 mph, and got an incredible 36 mpg! I've heard that it does use front brake pads, but that's a small price to pay for such a great car. It even hauls butt for a 4 cyl! I highly recommend it and would definitely buy another newer one if I could. Thanks for listening!
