Common Dodge Charger problems
The Dodge Charger is a popular car known for its performance and style. However, like any vehicle, it can have its share of problems. Here are some of the most common issues reported by Dodge Charger owners:
- Window Failure: Window failure is another common problem reported by Dodge Charger owners. The windows may not go up or down properly, or they may stop working altogether. This is often due to a cable failure in the window regulator or a failed motor.
- Check Engine Light due to Failed Thermostat: A failed thermostat can cause the check engine light to come on in the Dodge Charger. The thermostat keeps the engine from overheating by controlling how much coolant flows through the engine block. If it fails, overheating can occur, causing damage to other parts of the car.
- Wiring Electrical Issues: Electrical issues are common in Dodge Chargers due to worn-out wiring harnesses. The wiring harnesses can wear out over time due to stress or corrosion on the wires themselves, causing them to break down and fail.
- Noises When Turning: Squeaking while turning is a common problem in Dodge Chargers. This problem occurs when making a sharp turn and hearing a squeaking sound coming from the car's steering rack. The cause is typically due to worn parts or loose bolts on the vehicle's steering rack or suspension system.
- Musty Odor in AC System: A musty odor in the AC system is also common among Dodge Chargers. The most common cause of this problem is a clogged cabin air filter, which can be easily fixed by removing it and cleaning it with soap and water before reinstalling it back into place.
- Difficulty Filling the Fuel Tank: One of the most common Dodge Charger issues reported by actual owners is difficulty filling the fuel tank. The problem stems from a faulty gas emissions sensor when trying to fill up the tank. To resolve this, replace the gas emissions sensor with one that fits correctly.
- Leaks from Differentials and Axles: Leaks from differentials and axles are common problems reported by actual owners of this vehicle. Rear differential and axle seals are prone to leaks due to wear and tear over time. This can cause fluid loss in certain areas of the vehicle's drivetrain system.
- Automatic Transmission Leaks: One of the most common problems with automatic transmissions is leaks from the electrical connector. This can cause fluid loss and damage to the transmission.
- Power Window Failure: Many Dodge Charger owners have reported that one or more of their power windows have become inoperative. This problem is often caused by a failure of the window motor or a broken cable in the regulator mechanism. To fix this problem, the window motor and regulator may need to be replaced as an assembly.
It's important to note that not all Dodge Chargers will experience these problems, and many owners have reported having trouble-free vehicles. However, being aware of these common issues can help potential buyers make informed decisions when purchasing a used Dodge Charger.

- Summary: I own a 2019 Dodge Charger, and it has an open recall for the airbag inflator, which poses a serious safety risk. Despite the recall being issued over six months ago, replacement parts are still unavailable. Due to this safety concern, I am unable to drive my vehicle far from home, significantly impacting my usage. Additionally, I used to rent this vehicle on Turo to generate income, but it has been delisted from the platform because of the unresolved recall. I am still responsible for monthly loan payments of $420 and insurance payments of over $400 every month which is causing me financial loss without the ability to safely operate or rent out my car. I have contacted dealerships multiple times, but the parts continue to be delayed with no estimated resolution.

The dealership at my 2nd visit replaced the screen for free under a goodwill repair, and Chrysler also contacted me later promised to get the issue resolved if the dealership could not help me. Living in a rural area, having a full-size vehicle is crucial for safety, especially with the abundance of wildlife that tend to be suicidal. Additionally, winters tend to overstay their welcome and there are a lot of big rigs on the road. After researching many full to mid-sized sedans, I was looking for specific features such as 4 doors, a sporty feel, and look, without breaking the bank on gas. I considered the Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, Accord, Toyota, and BMW's, but for the money, the Charger was the clear winner. Although the Camaro and Mustang were tempting, they didn't offer the value I was looking for, and I needed 4 doors. The mid-size cars didn't provide much more for a few miles to the gallon, and they felt too compact. The Charger is a spunky, responsive, and comfortable car that also turns heads, all for under 30K. Coupled with the warranties, it's hard to beat.

I bought this car brand new in 2013 and it just turned 101,000 miles. I'm happy to say that other than frequent oil changes, I haven't spent a single dollar on maintenance. It's amazing! I recently hit 125,000 miles and I'm still on the original set of brakes. I did have my first check engine light come on, but it turned out to be a stuck thermostat which I'm getting replaced this week. This will be the first maintenance/replacement item since I bought it new. Unfortunately, my wife decided she wanted a new vehicle after we hit 147,000 miles, so we sold the Charger on craigslist for 12k. I was sad to see it go!

I love your car! The SXT with the blacktop package in granite pearlcoat color sounds amazing. It's great to hear that it's roomy enough for your kids and that they love it too. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that it's good on gas despite being a V6 with plenty of power. The rebates sound like a great deal. You must be thrilled with your purchase!

I really like my car, but unfortunately, I've had a few issues with it. The passenger door panel lifted by the window less than a year after I got the car, but thankfully, it was covered by the warranty. I've also had to recalibrate the sunroof a few times because it doesn't always close with the auto button. Now that my warranty has expired, I've noticed that the center console is lifting like the door panel did. Additionally, my uconnect 8.5 touch screen has started bubbling, even though it has never been wet or damaged, and it now changes settings and stations on its own. If I had known that I would experience so many issues with this car within just three years of owning it, I might not have bought it. However, I must admit that it looks great and drives really well!

My car developed a problem just 100 miles and two days after I bought it. Unfortunately, the dealer - who represents Chrysler - has had to replace several parts, including a sensor, two oil pumps, a cam chain tensioner, a PCM, a radiator, and an engine wiring harness, but the issue still persists. It's been over a month now and my car is still at the dealer. Although Chrysler has asked me to continue waiting, I'm disappointed with the customer service I've received so far.

In 2013, I purchased a used R/T Plus with all the options and 32k miles on the clock. I was drawn to the car's stylish design, powerful engine, and sedan convenience. Passengers often complimented the car's looks and were impressed with its comfort and features. However, I did experience some reliability issues from the beginning, which made purchasing an extended warranty a must. Despite these issues, the car's performance and features are impressive. The engine is powerful, but the 5-speed transmission can be slow to respond, which can make the car feel sluggish at times. The new 8-speed transmission could vastly improve the car's performance. While the car's handling is not exceptional, it still provides a tolerable ride. The brakes are okay in emergency situations, but they are undersized for the car's weight. Unfortunately, the car experienced several recalls during my five years of ownership, including an alternator diode thermal fatigue issue that caused the car to shut down and nearly catch fire. Luckily, this happened right after leaving my driveway. Despite these issues, I still have a soft spot for the car, but I'm glad to have moved on. I also own a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which has had its own share of recalls and quality issues.Once your car's extended warranty expires, you may want to consider other options before purchasing another FCA product in the future.

I was really excited to get this car when it first came out, especially since I had to sell my 72 Cutlass. Unfortunately, I could only afford the base model which has a 2.7 motor that is good on gas but lacks power. After a year, I had to replace the transmission and the engine started to tick. I took it to a dealer in Manassas at least four times, but they couldn't find the problem until after my warranty expired. This was frustrating because I was told I had a Lifetime warranty, but it turned out to be only a 36,000 mile warranty. Now, I ride around town with my music up loud to block out the ticking lifters, which I have to pay $1200 to get fixed.
