Common Dodge Charger problems
The Dodge Charger is a popular car known for its performance and style. However, like any vehicle, it can have its share of problems. Here are some of the most common issues reported by Dodge Charger owners:
- Window Failure: Window failure is another common problem reported by Dodge Charger owners. The windows may not go up or down properly, or they may stop working altogether. This is often due to a cable failure in the window regulator or a failed motor.
- Check Engine Light due to Failed Thermostat: A failed thermostat can cause the check engine light to come on in the Dodge Charger. The thermostat keeps the engine from overheating by controlling how much coolant flows through the engine block. If it fails, overheating can occur, causing damage to other parts of the car.
- Wiring Electrical Issues: Electrical issues are common in Dodge Chargers due to worn-out wiring harnesses. The wiring harnesses can wear out over time due to stress or corrosion on the wires themselves, causing them to break down and fail.
- Noises When Turning: Squeaking while turning is a common problem in Dodge Chargers. This problem occurs when making a sharp turn and hearing a squeaking sound coming from the car's steering rack. The cause is typically due to worn parts or loose bolts on the vehicle's steering rack or suspension system.
- Musty Odor in AC System: A musty odor in the AC system is also common among Dodge Chargers. The most common cause of this problem is a clogged cabin air filter, which can be easily fixed by removing it and cleaning it with soap and water before reinstalling it back into place.
- Difficulty Filling the Fuel Tank: One of the most common Dodge Charger issues reported by actual owners is difficulty filling the fuel tank. The problem stems from a faulty gas emissions sensor when trying to fill up the tank. To resolve this, replace the gas emissions sensor with one that fits correctly.
- Leaks from Differentials and Axles: Leaks from differentials and axles are common problems reported by actual owners of this vehicle. Rear differential and axle seals are prone to leaks due to wear and tear over time. This can cause fluid loss in certain areas of the vehicle's drivetrain system.
- Automatic Transmission Leaks: One of the most common problems with automatic transmissions is leaks from the electrical connector. This can cause fluid loss and damage to the transmission.
- Power Window Failure: Many Dodge Charger owners have reported that one or more of their power windows have become inoperative. This problem is often caused by a failure of the window motor or a broken cable in the regulator mechanism. To fix this problem, the window motor and regulator may need to be replaced as an assembly.
It's important to note that not all Dodge Chargers will experience these problems, and many owners have reported having trouble-free vehicles. However, being aware of these common issues can help potential buyers make informed decisions when purchasing a used Dodge Charger.

- Summary: I own a 2019 Dodge Charger, and it has an open recall for the airbag inflator, which poses a serious safety risk. Despite the recall being issued over six months ago, replacement parts are still unavailable. Due to this safety concern, I am unable to drive my vehicle far from home, significantly impacting my usage. Additionally, I used to rent this vehicle on Turo to generate income, but it has been delisted from the platform because of the unresolved recall. I am still responsible for monthly loan payments of $420 and insurance payments of over $400 every month which is causing me financial loss without the ability to safely operate or rent out my car. I have contacted dealerships multiple times, but the parts continue to be delayed with no estimated resolution.

At the dealer I was initially quoted a price over $2,000 and I know from researching the internet many many many others have had this issue. I contacted both Chrysler and a local dealership. The dealership at my 2nd visit replaced the screen for free under a goodwill repair, and Chrysler also contacted me later promised to get the issue resolved if the dealership could not help me. I am reporting this issue because it is a significant defect that could affect the safety and functionality of the vehicle.

Hi there! I'm a 25-year-old living in Michigan, where we get a lot of snow and rain. That's why I chose the AWD version of the Charger. Even though it's only a V6, it's surprisingly powerful. The AWD system is really cool too - it's actually a RWD car that switches to AWD when it needs to, like when the roads are slippery or the temperature drops. And when you hit the gas, this car really takes off! It's so much fun to blast off from a green light. I've even pushed it to speeds of 125 mph on a closed course, but I wouldn't recommend doing that on public roads - the car gets a bit shaky at those speeds. Inside, the Charger is pretty basic for a sporty car, but it has everything you need. There's plenty of room, lots of compartments, and all the controls for the audio, temperature, and USB/Aux are easy to reach. The only downside is the all-season tires that come with it from the factory.

I loved the new Chargers' exterior, but I was hesitant to purchase one due to my family's negative experiences with Chrysler products. However, after test driving a Charger at a local auto expo last November, I was thoroughly impressed! Not only was it fun to drive, but it was also incredibly solid and well-made. The initial build quality is on par with the Japanese marques that I usually own. It's hard to believe that this car came from the same company that manufactured my wife's dreadful 2010 Chrysler Sebring, the car that made her swear off American cars for life. When it came time to shop for a new car in February, I test drove a number of different makes and models, but no other car came close to matching the combination of performance, style, and quality that the Charger offered. It was the easiest choice I had ever made on a new vehicle. The 5.7 Liter HEMI V8 is legendary, and I always start the car with the remote start feature just to hear that sweet rumble. This car is packed with technology that actually works, including Apple Carplay and Android Auto, so there was no need to buy the Navigation package. I simply use the navigation app on my smartphone. The Charger has countless small features that show how much thought was put into the overall design, such as gas struts instead of the aggravating prop rod, courtesy lights galore, hooks in the trunk to hang plastic grocery bags, and the list goes on. These small details make a great car even better. Although I was never impressed by the aesthetics of the instrument panel while sitting in the car, as I had done at previous car shows, I can confidently say that the Charger is an exceptional vehicle. But when I drove it, everything clicked. The excellent ergonomics of the instruments and switchgear while driving the car made the appearance of IP more palatable. I still have not figured out how that is possible, but it's true! The exterior design is perfect for its intended demographic: those enthusiasts looking for an unashamedly American, no compromise muscle car. It is beautiful, in my opinion. There are none of the obnoxious and superfluous bulges, creases, warts, goiters, flaps, slits, nostrils, fins, or claspers that most new cars are plagued with. Who decided that the front of a car needs to look like a giant insect anyway? Lookin' at you, 2018 Camry. It may not appeal to everyone, but that's okay. Luxury car snobs weren't invited to this party anyway. I have surprisingly few nits to pick about this car; they got all of the big things right. I can really only think of two small items that I would change. Firstly, there is no rear seatback release in the trunk like my older Camry had; the seatbacks have to be released from the interior. Secondly, I wish the active exhaust had a The OEM tires only lasted 20k miles, but I replaced them with a set of Continentals which I highly recommend. Although there have been a few annoyances, none of them would deter me from having another Charger. Twice, the backup camera has not worked, but both times it came back on the next day. The A/C compressor started making a whining noise at around 10K miles, but it is very subtle and has not bothered me enough to take it in for repair. I do warn people about the back seat as everyone who gets in bumps their head, but it's not a big issue. The blind spot warning “horn” is WAY too loud, even on the lowest setting. It needs to be a “chime” like Mazda uses. I still wish that the exhaust had a quiet mode, and that the rear seatbacks had a release in the trunk. That's it! I cannot think of anything else I would change about this car. I still get frequent comments on the beautiful F8 Green paint, and the way the car sounds. I could go on and on, but I am running out of space.

I recently traded my 2000 BMW 528i for a Dodge Charger and I must say, I was hesitant at first that I wouldn't enjoy it as much. But boy, was I wrong! This car is excellent! It has good gas mileage and sporty styling that always gets me compliments. The ride is even better than my Bimmer! Although, I do wish that Dodge would go the extra mile and add minor touches like lighted vanity mirrors, a light in the glove compartment, an auto-adjusting rearview mirror, and more cup holders. It would also be great if they could move the cruise control to the steering wheel. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. The Charger combines American muscle with European refinement.

We recently experienced a snowfall of 16 inches and I must say, the AWD SXT 8 speed handles it better than my Mazda Tribute SUV. The braking and cornering are exceptional, making for a smooth and enjoyable ride. The vehicle shifts gears seamlessly, providing great acceleration when needed, all powered by a V6 engine! We are even averaging 24 mpg (mostly highway), which is better than what we were getting with our previous soccer-mom-van. We are so pleased with our 'midlife crisis' car that we plan on giving it to our daughter once she learns to drive. It's a great feeling knowing she will be driving a safe and reliable vehicle.

I often get asked if my Charger is fast, but while it's not slow, its weight of over 4100 pounds means it takes some time to get going. According to various reviews, it can do 0-60 in 5 seconds, making it a sporty car rather than a sports car. The interior is nice, and the stereo (especially the high-end one) is good, although some may find the bass lacking. The seats aren't fully leather, but considering the price (under $40k), it's understandable. Some people think the windows are too small, but I don't mind. I'm not sure what the stability control is for, as it's never kicked in for me. The ride is comfortable, although it's too long to fit in my garage with my motorcycle (which I traded for a KIA Sorento that did fit).

I've owned my Scat Pack for about 6 months and have driven 3200 miles so far. Here's my assessment of the pros and cons. On the positive side, driving this car is an incredible experience (I always look forward to driving it and the power is exceptional). I really like both the interior and exterior styling, and the ride comfort is very good (if you like a firm ride). Surprisingly, the highway gas mileage is also good, and the tech features like blind spot detection and adaptive cruise control work very well. Overall, it's a great family car. On the negative side, the build quality is poor (body panels are a bit off - the hood fit is particularly poor, white body paint doesn't match bumper color, and there are a few interior rattles even with just 3000 miles). Dealer service is the worst I've experienced anywhere (Major World Dodge in NYC). The side mirrors are too small and have blind spots no matter how they are adjusted (definitely get the tech package with blind spot detection). It's also hard to see the front of the car over the scoop (Dodge does not offer front parking sensors). Despite these shortcomings, I would not trade it for anything else in its price range because the driving experience is very good and I like the styling. I just wish Dodge had better quality control for both its cars and dealership network...

The engine sounds great and the steering is responsive. The brakes are good and the body motions are fairly well controlled. The handling is fine if you don't ask it to dance. With rear-wheel drive, there's no torque steer! The body structure is solid and the fit is satisfying. The room is plentiful and the trunk size is fine for a car this big. The base radio sounds surprisingly nice and the car has presence. However, the mail slot windows can feel claustrophobic and the thick front and rear pillars can block things you should be able to see. Additionally, the engine is weak and the car is heavy (3780lbs!). The steering is too light and does not give good feedback. Lastly, the car is slow to get off the line and you can't turn off traction control.

I owned my 2012 R/T for 3.5 years and drove it for 65,002 miles. Here are my final thoughts on the car: The performance is spectacular. The 5.7 Hemi is more engine than most drivers will ever need (but then again, so is the 3.6) and is really a gem. It is smooth and docile when driven gently, and turns into a snarling monster when you put your foot down. Combined with a cold air intake and a Flowmaster dual exhaust, it really became quite an animal. Let's just say I never needed much room to pass a bad/slow driver, and the sound coming from the exhaust was more than enough to let them know I didn't approve of their driving style. The car really was a bit of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Again, driving gently the engine was very docile, and the ride was borderline supple. Though the 20When the radio decides not to play your favorite song and refuses to play it until the car is restarted, or when it disconnects your Bluetooth mid-call, it can be frustrating. Moreover, if the Bluetooth call quality is poor, it can ruin the entire experience of the car. Unfortunately, the dealer informed me that the entire system needed to be replaced, which would have been very costly since the warranty had expired. Therefore, I decided to move on. Although I was told that my experience was rare, it still doesn't change the fact that it happened and the electronics were not up to the mark.

I strongly believe that the car my wife and I purchased has not met our expectations. Despite being a 'dream' car, it has been in the shop every month, including over the Christmas period, and we have lost confidence in its reliability. The car has been leaking oil and has had a dead battery, which has been very disappointing given its $30,000 price tag. In my opinion, a Buick Lucerne would have been a better choice.
