Common 2017 Dodge Charger problems

Based on complaints from owners of the 2017 Dodge Charger, several common problems have been reported:

  • Door Panels Falling Apart: Another common problem reported around 30,000 miles is the door panels falling apart due to worn-out clips and torn panels. Replacing the clips can solve the issue for approximately $20, but if the door panel is seriously damaged, a new door card can cost around $1,200.
  • Paint Chips: Some owners have noticed paint chips, particularly on the sharp edges of the front bumper, within the first 10,000 miles. Repairing stone chips may require repainting the bumper, costing around $1,000.
  • Recalls: The 2017 Dodge Charger has had four recalls, including issues with the front driveshaft potentially separating from the car, an oil leak, and problems with the cruise control software. Dodge offers free repairs and replacements for all affected models.
  • Transmission Shift Quality Problems: Owners have reported issues with the transmission, leading to jerky shifts and improper shifting. This could indicate more significant transmission problems down the line, potentially related to the powertrain control module or transmission fluid levels.
  • Window Failure: Another common problem is window failure, where windows may not function properly or stop working altogether due to issues with the window regulator or motor.
  • Check Engine Light: Owners have faced check engine light issues caused by a failed thermostat, leading to potential overheating and damage to other parts of the car. It is recommended to address this problem promptly by replacing the thermostat.
  • Wiring Electrical Issues: Electrical problems with wiring harnesses wearing out over time have been reported, leading to failures in the electrical system of the vehicle.
  • Noises When Turning: Squeaking sounds while turning could indicate worn parts or loose bolts in the steering rack or suspension system, requiring replacement or tightening to resolve the issue.
  • Musty Odor in AC System: Owners have reported a musty odor in the AC system, often caused by a clogged cabin air filter that can be easily fixed by cleaning and reinstalling the filter.

These common problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to issues to ensure the longevity and reliability of the 2017 Dodge Charger.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-09
  • VIN: 2C3CDXCT3HH
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
  • Summary: [XXX] [XXX] ] Urgent Safety Concerns with 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona - Complaint [XXX] Hello Dodge Corporate, I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction and deep concern regarding the safety issues I have encountered with my 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona, which I purchased as a brand-new vehicle from Fremont Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. I am reaching out to you as the first owner of this vehicle with genuine worries about its safety features and functionality. Recently, I experienced a terrifying situation while driving my Dodge Charger on the highway. At a speed of 75 mph, the vehicle unexpectedly applied the brakes on its own, putting me and other drivers at significant risk of an accident. This erratic behavior is entirely unacceptable and poses a severe threat to both my safety and the safety of others on the road. Moreover, the issues do not end there. On numerous occasions, my Dodge Charger has exhibited erratic behavior, including failure to accelerate, sudden stalling, and a complete blackout of the dashboard display. Despite repeated attempts to rectify these problems, including multiple battery replacements, the vehicle remains unreliable and unsafe to operate. Additionally, critical safety features such as the backup camera have ceased to function, further compromising my ability to operate the vehicle safely. It is pertinent to note that my Dodge Charger has only accumulated 23,000 miles since its purchase in 2017, indicating that these issues are not a result of normal wear and tear but rather a fundamental flaw in the vehicle's design or manufacturing. My attempts to address these pressing safety concerns with both the Dodge dealer and your corporate customer service department have been met with disappointment and disregard. I was informed that since my vehicle is no longer under warranty, there is nothing that can be done to remedy these life-threatening issues. This response is utterly unacceptable and fails to acknowledge the INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • VIN: 2C3CDXJG5HH
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: Engine was ticking around 74k miles, it started off quiet and I was informed by a mechanic it should be fine as a lot of cars have a ticking sound. Couple thousand miles later the engine is nearly rattling and there's a thumping causing spaces of silence in the exhaust and there's also occasional hard shifting.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-06
  • VIN: 2C3CDXGJ7HH
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: The transmission in my car completely failed. I was driving home from work. The check engine light came on. Then I noticed the transmission wasn't changing gears. I also noticed a burning smell as well. I towed the vehicle to the dealership. They discovered the transmission fluid was burned due to over heating. The transmission was locked into 2rd gear. That happened at the end of September with about 59,000 miles. The warranty company sent the dealership a used transmission to dealership. On Monday November 27 while driving home, the transmission failed again. I put about 2,000 miles on the vehicle. For my understanding, this is a known issue with Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/RAM for the transmissions in their vehicles to fail. The manufacturer knows there's a problem. However, the manufacturer hasn't addressed the issue.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-06-15
  • VIN: 2c3cdxct3hh
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: The safety issue is due to the delamination between the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and touch screen digitizer of the Uconnect 8.4 Instrument Panel Module. This unit controls the infotainment system, navigation, and numerous vehicle settings. The failure mode of continuous false selections (ghost touches) is far beyond merely annoying. It is very distracting to drive a vehicle which is randomly switching to random modes. It is dangerous because the driver knows the car is changing functions without command inputs and is almost compulsively distracted to turn attention to the display to understand what happened and whether corrective action is needed. FCA offers no recourse other than component replacement by the dealer at owner cost if out of warranty. I was quoted a price of $1930 due to expiration of warranty. This is a known materials defect that should be corrected by the manufacturer regardless of warranty. As a material and manufacturing defect, the problem was present from vehicle assembly with high probability of manifestation at some future time.

Negative 2017 Dodge Charger car reviews

  1. Gabe Schaefer 2024-10-08

Hey there! I have a 17 Scat Pack Charger and I really enjoy driving it. Although, I have had some issues with factory components failing in the past. If you plan on pushing the car hard, be prepared for a rebuild as the pistons in the 6.4 are a bit weak. I personally race my car regularly and have been pretty hard on it, so I had to rebuild the bottom half of the engine. After that, I had some trouble with weak valve springs, but now she's running strong! I did have to invest some money into it, but it was totally worth it for the fun factor. I didn't use my warranty because I wanted to avoid having more cheap parts replace what I already knew would fail. If you're looking for a fast car, I would recommend starting with a Hellcat. It's a great platform to build on!

  2. Braxton Hoeger 2024-05-20

This is my favorite car! I absolutely love the classic American muscle design and concept. Unfortunately, I won't be able to buy one since it doesn't have a CD player and I have over 3,000 CDs! It's a shame that Chrysler tried to cut corners and be cheap, but I still appreciate the great design of this car.

  3. Dudley Effertz 2024-03-25

Hi there! I recently purchased a brand new 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona and I've been having some trouble with the navigation system. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be pronouncing street names correctly, which can be frustrating. For example, when I try to navigate to NE 21st, it says 'Nebraska' instead (even though I live in Oregon). I've been working with Dodge and the dealership for the past 3 months to try and find a solution, but unfortunately, we haven't been able to resolve the issue yet. It seems to happen with any street that is NE or SE followed by a number address. I use the navigation system daily for my work as a Realtor, so this has been a real inconvenience. I'm hoping to find a solution soon, but in the meantime, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue with their Nav system? Let me know if your dealership has been able to do anything about it. Thanks!

  4. Kale Becker 2024-02-25

I will never own a car again after my previous one broke down frequently and proved to be a financial burden. It is clear that owning a car can be expensive and unreliable.

Positive 2017 Dodge Charger car reviews

  1. Rupert Schaden 2024-11-25

This car is really spacious and roomy! It's got some great get up and go, and I would definitely recommend the Brembo brakes!

  2. Lourdes Yundt 2024-11-24

I hope you're doing well! I noticed that you mentioned liking the product, but wishing you had one with all the bells and whistles. Is there anything I can do to help you find the perfect fit for your needs?

  3. Braden Nolan 2024-11-17

This is definitely the friendliest 4dr sedan I have ever driven! You command the road and don't have to yield to any ordinary traffic. Only those you let by can go ahead, and those you don't want ahead can never out accelerate you! It's always a great experience every mile you drive.

  4. Harold Huel 2024-09-20

Beautiful car! It sounds amazing, but if you're looking for more power, I would recommend going for the 392 version. It's not that much more expensive.

  5. Walter Mitchell 2024-08-15

If you purchase this car, you won't regret it.
