Common 2015 Dodge Charger problems

Based on complaints from owners of the Dodge Charger 2015, several common problems have been reported:

  • Window Failure: Another common problem is window failure, where windows may malfunction, not operate correctly, or stop working altogether. This issue is often caused by cable failures in the window regulator or motor failures.
  • Check Engine Light: Owners have experienced the check engine light coming on due to a failed thermostat. A malfunctioning thermostat can lead to engine overheating, potentially causing damage to other parts of the car. It is crucial to address this issue promptly by replacing the thermostat.
  • Wiring Electrical Issues: Electrical problems, such as worn-out wiring harnesses, have been reported. Over time, stress or corrosion on the wires can lead to their breakdown and failure, resulting in electrical malfunctions in the vehicle.
  • Noises When Turning: Squeaking sounds while turning have been a common complaint among Dodge Charger owners. This issue is often related to worn parts, loose bolts in the steering rack, or suspension system problems. Resolving this problem may involve replacing worn parts or tightening loose bolts.
  • Musty Odor in AC System: Some owners have reported a musty odor coming from the AC system. This problem is typically caused by a clogged cabin air filter, which can be resolved by cleaning the filter with soap and water before reinstalling it.
  • Fuel Tank Filling Difficulty: Difficulty in filling the fuel tank has been a prevalent issue. This problem is attributed to a faulty gas emissions sensor, making it challenging to fill up the tank. Replacing the sensor with the correct one is necessary to address this issue effectively.
  • Leaks from Diff & Axle: Leaks from differentials and axles have been reported, leading to fluid loss in the drivetrain system. This issue requires immediate inspection by a professional technician to prevent further damage.
  • Automatic Transmission Leaks: Automatic transmission leaks from the electrical connector have been a common problem. Addressing this issue may involve repairing or replacing the affected components to prevent transmission issues.
  • Faulty Camshaft: Some owners have experienced camshaft failures around 100,000 miles, requiring costly repairs. Issues with the camshaft can significantly impact the engine's performance and longevity.

These problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to any issues that arise with the Dodge Charger 2015 to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the vehicle.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-01
  • VIN: 2C3CDXJG8FH
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I also have a drive shaft bearing that is completely destroyed. I have seen similar complaints on nhtsa. I took my car into a local shop for both front CV boots ripped and leaking. Upon inspection I was told the drive shaft also needed replaced, totaling over 3000+ to replace the drive shaft. The mechanic took a video of the bearing and it is indeed completely separated with the drive shaft moving very loose. With how may people are complaining about this part, and the recalls on drive shafts for certain vehicles, (unfortunately not this VIN) that it should be investigated. POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-19
  • VIN: 2C3CDXHG5FH
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I started noticing a funny noise when turning to the right and when accelerating. Took it to Community Auto Repair on 7/19/24. Below are their notes from inspection (I have attached the 1st pg of the Inspection report stating this) Test Drive - Noise Inspection NOTES Drive shaft carrier bearing is totally destroyed. Greg (owner) said that he had never seen one as bad as that before! He told me that it is dangerous to drive. If it completely breaks I could cause much more damage and can cause an accident. So I had to leave it in the shop over the weekend to be fixed on Monday. They are going to have to replace the whole drive shaft, which is $2000 +. The reason I am reporting this issue is because I would like it looked into. Greg said that it was nothing I did and it was most likely a defective part or a defect in how it was installed . He said he was surprised by how destroyed it was with how little miles I have on it. My car only has 37,000 miles on it! I saw that other Chargers of this year had recalls but my VIN was not included. But something seems odd with my car only having 37,000 miles on it and for the drive shaft bearing to be DESTOYED. Please look into this matter. Maybe my car should actually be part of the recall?

  • VIN: 2C3CDXHG4FH
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: The center Carrier support bearing is defective. As I look online on how to repair it I see NUMEROUS occasions of this happening in similar cars as mine. Which ruins other parts of the drive shaft and transfer cases. Dodge needs to be held responsible for their faulty part.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-07-22

  • Summary: My 2015 Dodge Charger is in the shop because of the “Fuel pump and pigtail to the the fuel pump, burnt off the exhaust ” per the mechanics exact words. The mechanic told me my car has the possibility to catch fire/explode and can pose great harm to me and anyone in the car. I was also informed this problem was a manufacturing issue and there was nothing I could have done to cause it or prevent it. This problem is extremely reminiscent of the R07 recall in 2015 Dodge Chargers, yet my 2015 Dodge Charger Vin does not show this recall for my car specifically. I believe this is a matter of safety and should be explained to all 2015 Dodge Chargers.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-02-25
  • VIN: 2C3CDXBG7FH
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: V6 3.6 L Pentastar engine has serious misfire issues, I purchased a vehicle with 150k miles on it, it had check engine light on, I brought it to a local dealer service center in Dodge Koons/Tysons VA. After $900 diagnostics it was recommended to swap the engine for a brand new one. I agreed, after a month of waiting, I received my car back with the new engine installed total bill was almost $10000. After 6-7 months of driving with the new engine the check engine turned on again, so I wend back to Koons and they said the problem with the oil pressure sensor that is not cover under the engine warranty (another $550 bill). And yesterday on 02/25/2022 after a month from the last repair I had the check engine flashing again while I was driving on a highway, the car was vibrating, steering wheel was not responsive either. When I came home I found out that the flashing check engine light indicates a misfire. That means that the brand new engine has the same problem as the one that I recently replaced. This is definitely a manufacturing defect and it’s 100% not safe that they make engines like this. I will try to get my warranty though and will probably try to sell the vehicle after they fix it (hopefully no bill from Koons this time, but still 50 % unsure about it) , the fact that they produce and install them in cars is unprecedented in such a high volume (I read articles online that many people having this problem with their dodge vehicles), I’m an experienced driver but even for me it was scary to drive in such extreme conditions.

  • Consequence: A car that falls unexpectedly increases the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will provide owners with wheel chocks and instructions for their use, free of charge. The recall began on March 21, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S03.

Negative 2015 Dodge Charger car reviews

I'm experiencing some issues with suspension noise and braking on my car, which only has 2k miles. I need to take it back to the dealership. I'm feeling frustrated as I never expected to have these problems with a brand new car, and there's also a lot of brake dust.

  2. Webster Farrell 2024-06-05

I purchased this car 3 months ago, but unfortunately, I have been experiencing some issues with it. The acceleration is not as good as I expected, and the suspension is quite hard. However, I do appreciate the interior design and the speaker sound quality. I previously owned a Challenger, which I loved, but had to switch to a four-door car due to having a baby. Overall, I am still adjusting to this new car, but I hope to resolve any issues soon.

The maintenance costs of this car have been astronomical. Despite purchasing the car with only 20k miles on it, I have already had to replace the transmission, grind the rotors twice, replace one set of rotors, and replace brake pads. Unfortunately, the car has just hit 47k miles and the repairs have been both ridiculous and unaffordable. I have been paying almost half of my car payment each month towards repairs. Additionally, the vehicle has difficulty braking at high speeds and has caused the rotors to warp.

The V6 Charger may not be the most reliable engine choice, but it was a decision I made with confidence.

I purchased this car in July of last year and it has been great until about two months ago. Unfortunately, the door handles have cheap plastic covers over them and during a touchless car wash, the passenger side handle flew off. I didn't notice until I parked to vacuum and found the piece, but some of the clips were broken, so it wasn't a tight fit. I realized they are kind of flimsy and move around a little when you wiggle them. I brought it to the dealer and explained what happened, but they initially suggested super gluing it back on. After speaking with a few people, someone finally helped me. They don't sell just the cover, so I had to get a whole new handle. After exchanging words with the manager, they paid for it and I got my new handle with cover. I thought the first one was just defective because the driver's side and others held up okay in the wash. However, it popped off again on the same door and at the blow dryer at the wash again. When you spend a good deal of money on a car, you don't expect door handles to just snap off in the car wash, especially a brushless one. I love the car, but this one issue is very frustrating and I wouldn't have bought it if I had known what I know now. In the meantime, I guess I'll be washing it delicately by hand.

Congratulations on your new car! It's great to hear that you're enjoying the ride and discovering all the features. The safety features sound impressive and it's wonderful to hear that they're working well for you. It's also great to hear that you're getting compliments on the car's looks and ride. The gas mileage is sure to improve as you continue to drive it. It's good to know that you did your research and test drove several vehicles before making your decision. The technology may take some time to learn, but it's great that your salesman sent you videos to help you out. It's also fantastic that you got a great deal on a leftover new 2015. It's understandable that you would like a little more horsepower for the size/weight, but it's great that you knew what you were getting with the 6 cylinder. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and we look forward to hearing more updates in the future!

I recently traded my 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT392 for a 2015 Dodge Charger SRT392. Although I had wanted the Charger initially, I went for the Challenger due to a good deal. As someone who isn't a family person, I prefer sedans for their practicality and short doors. This Charger is fully optioned, except for the sunroof, and is pitch black in color. As a car enthusiast, I follow car reviews on YouTube and was attracted to the power and torque of the 392. The reviews on this car convinced me that it was a major leap forward from the 2012 I owned. The upgraded electronics interface and SRT's tires/wheels/brakes package were major selling points for me. I was pleasantly surprised by the luxuriousness of the interior, attention to detail, and overall fit and finish. The pitch black paint job is absolutely stunning in full sunlight, and the new front end styling is impressive from every angle. The center stack electronic interface is by far the most useful and attractive I've ever seen. I'm already in love with the Harmon Kardon 19 speaker stereo subwoofer and amp, which had been previously hidden in the spare tire well of the trunk. It has been relocated to parts unknown under the rear seat, freeing up the trunk sub-space for a foam storage unit that's perfect for holding car cleaning supplies and the like so that they don't slide around in the trunk. Both the floor mats and a quite useful mesh trunk 'cargo hammock' are included gratis. The little things make a BIG difference! Thanks for noticing Dodge! The gas mileage has been the most surprising thing so far.Your 2012 SRT Challenger is good, but the Sachs ZF-8 Speed auto trans in the SRT392 is almost worth the price of ownership alone. I recommend the SRT392 as it is a better value for the money and overall compared to the Hellcat. You will be pleasantly surprised by the 392's power band, which is so much better matched to the overall vehicle that it's nearly as fast as the Hellcat, especially in the normal driving conditions most drivers will experience. After 2000 miles, I found the front collision warning and active braking system to be of questionable value at this point in its design progression. It's a bit like having your overly-protective mother riding shotgun with a brake pedal of her own. The system is just too sensitive, and although it might well save you from an inadvertent front-end collision, it's probably even more likely to cause a rear-end collision when the guy behind you gets surprised by your sudden abrupt braking maneuver. I've had a couple of near misses already, so I drive with the system OFF all the time now. The switch will hold its setting, so you can turn it off once and not have to worry about it every time you get it, but still. Unless you're a VERY conservative driver (not likely in this car), I think the system's an overall liability and would not recommend its use under any conditions. After 1 year and approximately 6K miles, the car is still stunning in its good looks, impeccably reliable even at 7200' altitude and risk of snow approximately 5 months of the year, and most impressive in its performance. I use it mostly for local in-town driving, so accordingly, it gets pretty dismal gas mileage, especially when I put my foot into it, which is fairly often. Even so, mileage is usually between 12-15 MPG for strictly in-town driving. When I take the car on the road to Santa Fe or Albuquerque, I can easily average 23-25 MPG, which is quite acceptable in my book. The Pirelli P-Zero Summer tires are probably 50-60% spent already, even with a front-cross, rear forward rotation at 5K. Those who are familiar with muscle cars and summer tires already know this is fairly typical. All in all, my main concern with the car thus far is the fact that the massive 15.4

Hey there! Just a quick tip - make sure to double-check that they sell you the right trim. Have a great day!

Before going into the transaction, it's important to check your lease value. I've put 12,000 miles on the car and it runs great, but I've heard from others that things can start to break after 50,000 miles.

  5. Miles Mante 2024-06-28

The 2015 Dodge Charger is an amazing car! It has power, comfort, and great gas efficiency. Although it's just a tad above my budget, I'm almost certain that my next vehicle will be one.
