Common 2020 Dodge Charger problems
The Dodge Charger, while an iconic and dependable sedan, has faced several common problems over the years. One of the most prevalent issues is related to the brake system, particularly in the 2019 model year. Owners have reported erratic behavior and increased vibration in the service brakes, as well as ill-fitting rear brake pads and broken rotors. These problems can make driving uncomfortable and potentially dangerous.
Another common problem is with the power steering system, particularly in the 2013 model year. Owners have reported hearing abnormal noises and experiencing sudden loss of control over their power steering. The cause of these issues varies, from damaged tension struts and worn-out bushings to unstable steering wheels. At least two of these issues have resulted in accidents, highlighting the importance of addressing these problems promptly.
Defective airbags are also a commonly reported problem, particularly in the 2012 model year. Complaints include airbag module sensor failure, activated airbag lights, stuck airbags, and inadvertent side airbag deployment. These issues led to the 2012 Dodge Charger being one of the model years recalled by Chrysler in 2015.
In the 2006 model year, premature engine failure was the most reported issue. Owners have complained about a variety of engine problems, from motor failure to damaged cylinders and valves. These issues often did not trigger warning lights, making it difficult for owners to identify the problem before the engine stopped working entirely.
Other common problems across various model years include transmission shift quality issues, window failure, check engine light problems due to failed thermostats, electrical issues related to wiring harnesses, noises when turning due to worn-out ball joints, musty odors in the AC system caused by clogged cabin air filters, difficulty filling the fuel tank due to faulty gas emissions sensors, leaks from differentials and axles, and automatic transmission leaks from electrical connectors.
Despite these common problems, the Dodge Charger remains a popular choice for those seeking a powerful and stylish sedan. Regular maintenance and addressing issues promptly can help ensure a safer and more enjoyable driving experience.

I drove a Charger rental, which I believe was the 'SXT' trim. Although the trim wasn't displayed on the vehicle or in the manual, I was impressed with its features. However, the vehicle's handling felt a bit sluggish, which may be due to its weight or the difference between my FWD Civic and a RWD Charger. Despite this, I found the car to be very good-looking and would love to own one in the future. Unfortunately, I experienced some mechanical issues while driving it. While driving my girlfriend home, I received a message in the dash to service the 'Traction Stability Control', which then changed to 'Service Trans' with confusing instructions for stopping the car. The acceleration changed drastically, making it difficult to move the car from a complete stop. I pulled off at a gas station and turned the car off, but when I tried to turn it back on and shift to Reverse, I couldn't move at all. I had to get a ride home since the car was practically immobile. As someone who has had zero engine problems with my Civic, I was extremely disappointed. Unless it's another rental, I don't think I'll be driving a Charger again. It's great that you're into cool-looking cars! However, I personally don't trust Chargers or Dodge anymore. I haven't had the chance to drive Jeeps or Chrystlers, but did you know they're under the same parent company? In the future, I'll stick to Honda since I've had great experiences with their reliable cars.
Isaias Carroll 2024-05-21
The car's weight seems to have affected its performance, with only 305 hp. However, the V6 engine can still achieve 27 mpg if driven carefully. The fit and finish of the car is almost perfect, but there is one issue that needs to be addressed. The electric power steering unit is located too low and can be easily damaged by small branches or road debris, which can render the car unsteerable. Unfortunately, there is no skid plate available to protect it. It is also disappointing that Dodge is going all-electric, without considering the public's desire or the future price of electricity. On a positive note, the Kia is a great alternative to consider.

I recently purchased this car brand new and overall, I am quite pleased with it. The interior is spacious and the stereo system is fantastic. The car also has great power and acceleration when needed. However, I have noticed that the door panels on all doors are peeling back from the window, which is disappointing. Unfortunately, there is no warranty or recall to fix this issue. While I understand that this is frustrating, I believe that Dodge is still a reputable brand and I would consider purchasing from them again in the future. Thank you for taking the time to read my review.
