Common 2014 Dodge Charger problems

The Dodge Charger, a popular choice for those seeking performance and style, has been known to have common problems that affect its overall reliability. These issues, reported by actual owners, range from transmission shift quality problems to window failure, and can impact the driving experience significantly.

  • Transmission Shift Quality Problems: A common complaint among Dodge Charger owners is the shift quality problem. This issue can manifest as a jerking sensation when accelerating or difficulty with the transmission shifting properly. These symptoms can indicate larger transmission problems down the line, making it crucial to address them promptly.
  • Window Failure: Another frequent problem reported by Dodge Charger owners is window failure. This issue can present as windows that do not go up or down properly or stop working altogether. The cause of this problem is often a cable failure in the window regulator or a motor failure.
  • Check Engine Light: A failed thermostat can trigger the check engine light in Dodge Chargers. The thermostat's role is to regulate the flow of coolant through the engine block, preventing overheating. If it fails, overheating can occur, potentially damaging other components of the vehicle. It is essential to address this issue promptly by having a mechanic replace the faulty thermostat.
  • Wiring Electrical Issues: Electrical issues are another common problem in Dodge Chargers. Over time, wiring harnesses can wear out due to stress or corrosion, leading to failures. Regular inspection and maintenance can help prevent these issues from becoming more severe.
  • Noises When Turning: Squeaking noises during turns are a common problem in Dodge Chargers. This issue is typically caused by worn parts or loose bolts in the steering rack or suspension system. Regular inspections and maintenance can help identify and address these problems before they worsen.
  • Musty Odor in AC System: A musty odor in the AC system is a common problem in Dodge Chargers. This issue is often caused by a clogged cabin air filter, which can be easily resolved by cleaning or replacing the filter.
  • Difficulty Filling Fuel Tank: A faulty gas emissions sensor can make it challenging to fill the fuel tank in Dodge Chargers. Replacing the faulty sensor with one that fits correctly can resolve this issue.
  • Leaks from Differential & Axle: Leaks from differentials and axles are common problems in Dodge Chargers. These leaks are typically caused by worn differential side seals, damaged gaskets, or loose driveshaft bolts. Regular inspections and maintenance can help identify and address these issues before they lead to more severe problems.

These common problems, reported by actual Dodge Charger owners, highlight the importance of regular inspections and maintenance to ensure the vehicle's reliability and longevity. Addressing these issues promptly can help prevent more significant problems down the line, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable driving experience.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-05
  • VIN: 2C3CDXAG4EH
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: The auxiliary fuel pump, located inside the passenger cabin under the right rear passenger seat, has been leaking fuel, leading to discoloration of the part and a strong scent of fuel inside the cabin. Additionally, a pool of gasoline sat atop the pump only separated by a thin plastic lid from the electrical cables leading to the battery in the vehicle's trunk. This gasoline could be ignited by the a spark or a short circuit. The Charger and Chrysler 300 from 2005 to 2023 has this design. I don't know if the auxiliary fuel pump cover is any more robust or fire suppressant than the 2014 model I possess. The dealer I took my vehicle to could not find the source of the leak and claimed to not being able to smell the obvious odor of gasoline permeating the vehicle cabin. I found out about it on You Tube, and then showed the obvious fuel link to the technician when I took the vehicle to them a 2nd time.

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-26
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 2C3CDXDT4EH
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: When attempting to apply brakes, the pedal sunk to the floor with no result. On subsequent attempts, the left front brake activated and locked up while there was no apparent effect on the other 3 wheels. The car veered to the left as a result of the one brake being applied, and began to travel down the road at an angle of about 45 degrees. Correction was required to steer out, the brake remained locked up and not responding to the pedal. Automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems did not activate and my vehicle collided with the one ahead. AWD seemed to activate just prior to the collision, which assisted in correcting the brake lockup. Inspection of the vehicle seems to indicate electrical issues caused a brake booster fault, and likely caused failure of the emergency braking systems to activate. These issues first appeared the day of the accident, no error messages or trouble codes were present. It appears the braking system is faulty, due to electronic controls, seemingly. The car is available for inspection. The left front rotor is scored deeply and the artifacts on the asphalt indicate that the left front tire was dragging/skidding up to the point of impact.

  • VIN: 2C3CDXBG5EH
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: The alternator failed while the vehicle was in operation and it stalled without warning on the highway at 55 mph. This left the car without power steering and a dangerous situation until I was able to get the car to the side of the road. I was left stranded halfway on/off the road until I could get a wrecker to come tow. Towed the vehicle to he nearest automotive service center where I was told the alternator failed. It also shorted out the battery. Alternator, battery, and tow was $1200.00. I see recalls on the internet for my year and model car for the alternator but when I enter my VIN, it does not show up for my individual car. Why is that?

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-03-12
  • VIN: 2C3CDXBG0EH
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: My oil cooler is cracked and leaking tons of oil. Upon further research this is a very common problem in there engines because of faulty engine design. Why is there no recall for the faulty engine oil cooler in the Dodge Charger 2014. Most Dodge Chargers experience an oil leak from a cracked oil cooling unit but there has been no recall? An oil cooler is meant to last the entire life of a car how is Dodge allowed to get away with this when they have not addressed the faulty oil cooler assembly in any recalls?

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-01-05
  • VIN: 2C3CDXDT1EH
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: There is an issue with the AWD system. There is a clunking/shudder that occurs intermittently that sounds metallic. It is progressively getting worse over time. I took it to the Dodge dealership to get looked at but they spent about 30 minutes on it and told me they could not diagnose it. They said that it could be a CV shaft starting to fail but to wait it out and allow it to get worse. Since it is only happening in AWD, that does not seem practical. I am concerned that the AWD system will fail while I am driving in bad, snowy weather and will get into an accident due to this. I did say this to the dealer but they assured me that would not happen. I drive mostly highway miles and do not have another vehicle to drive. I will also note that I had to get the transmission replaced at 60k miles.

Evap canister that was replaced. So I was told if I bring it back in, and the Evap canister is not the problem that I will be charged 250 dollars to have it looked at. If I'm getting a code that that there's a evap system small leak and I'm still smelling fumes, it's got to be that the replacement of the canister vapor wasn't properly replaced. So I'm wanting to have the recall looked at again without me being charged 250 dollars for a diagnosis test

Negative 2014 Dodge Charger car reviews

The Dodge car model in question has had some issues in the past, including transmission problems and off gas odor. Despite these challenges, the car is still a viable option for some drivers. It is important to consider all factors when making a purchasing decision and to consult with a trusted mechanic or dealership for further guidance.

Hey there! If you're thinking about buying a Dodge these days, I just wanted to share my experience with you. While Dodge may be focused on the horsepower war, I've found that it's important to also consider the reliability of their vehicles. Personally, I've had some issues and have decided not to purchase another one. Just wanted to give you a heads up!

To start off, I want to share my experience with my previous car, a 2006 Dodge Charger RT Daytona Top Banana number 814 of 4000. It was a beautiful car, very fast, and incredibly clean both inside and out, including the engine compartment. The original owner got the signature of 'THE KING' Richard Petty on the airbag during a NASCAR event in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. I purchased the car in 2015 with about 60,000 miles on the odometer, and it was well-maintained. Recently, I sold it to a friend with around 125,000 miles on it. Although it had some minor issues due to its age, my friend will take care of it and bring it back to its former glory. Now, I have a 2014 Dodge Charger RT Pitch Black, which looks completely awesome. I really like the way the Chargers look from 2006 to 2014, and this car is so much more refined with more horsepower (370 compared to 350 for the Daytona). It has some great features like inside door handles that light up, an Alpine stereo system, a heated steering wheel, remote start, and push-button start. I have had this car for less than a week, and it has 44,068 miles on the odometer. I'm planning to have a friend inspect it for me since I don't trust dealerships. It rides so smoothly, and I love the actual feel you get from driving a vehicle you know can beat just about anything on the road. I'm really excited to modify it with a muffler system, headers, and a CAI, probably K&N. It will be a fun time with my Black Beauty!

You made a great choice trading your 2013 Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline, fully loaded, for a bright white 2014 Charger R/T, base model. It's wonderful to hear that you love your new car! It's great to know that the charger 5.7 hemi has better gas mileage than your previous 3.6 pentastar in the challenger. The handling is impressive, especially considering the size of the car. The space is also fantastic, and the 8.5 media screen is a great feature. It's good to hear that the acceleration is also great. Enjoy your new ride!

Your 2014 Dodge Charger SXT Plus is a great car! It has nearly 82,000 miles and is still going strong. You've had to fix a few things like the oil cooler, which is a common issue with the 3.6 engine, and an air conditioning sensor, as well as normal maintenance like tires and brakes. The car is well-designed and built solidly. I love my Charger and people compliment me on it every day. With my 20-inch Sumitomo tires and Foss chrome wheels, it handles great. This is actually my second Charger and I'm very happy with it. Way to go, Dodge!

Hey there! You'll love this peppy and quick ride, and it's super comfortable too! Just a heads up, this isn't the police version.

  5. Gaston Senger 2024-07-08

I bought my first 2014 SXT charger off the dealer floor and unfortunately, it caught on fire due to an electrical issue. However, the dealer replaced it with another charger off the dealer floor and ever since then, I have only had basic issues with the car. If anybody decides to buy one, it's definitely worth it if you take care of it!
