2014 Dodge Challenger problems
The Dodge Challenger is the name of three different generations of automobiles produced by American automobile manufacturer Dodge. However, the first use of the Challenger name by Dodge was in 1959 for marketing a "value version" of the full-sized Coronet Silver Challenger.
From model years 1970 to 1974, the first generation Dodge Challenger pony car was built using the Chrysler E platform in hardtop and convertible body styles sharing major components with the Plymouth Barracuda.
The second generation, from model years 1978 to 1983, was a badge engineered Mitsubishi Galant Lambda / Sapporo, a coupe version of an economical compact car.
The third and current generation is a full-size muscle car that was introduced in early 2008 originally as a rival to the evolved fifth generation Ford Mustang and the fifth generation Chevrolet Camaro.
In November 2021, Stellantis announced that 2023 model year would be the final model year for both the LD Dodge Charger and LA Dodge Challenger, as the company will focus its future plans on electric vehicles rather than fossil fuel powered vehicles, due to tougher emissions standards required by the Environmental Protection Agency for the 2023 model year. Challenger production ended on December 22, 2023, and the Brampton, Ontario assembly plant will be re-tooled to assemble an electrified successor.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

- VIN: 2C3CDYAG4EH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The ABS system has failed on my 2014 Dodge Challenger SXT and has caused major electrical issues within the vehicle. The ABS part/computer module (part number 68210118AB) has been on back order for months with no estimate of when the part will be available from a Dodge/Chrysler/Ram/Jeep dealership. I have been without my vehicle for 4 months because nobody has this part available. This is a major issue affecting many vehicles under Dodge/Chrysler/Ram/Jeep. My safety was at risk because while I was driving the vehicle, every single light on my dashboard appeared and my brakes stopped working. Thankfully I was leaving my neighborhood and was only going 15MPH. The key fob is not detectable, the windows will not roll up, and the vehicle cannot hold a charge while in drive. There was an ABS warning lamp on prior to this all happening.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-11
- VIN: 2C3CDYAG6EH
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The Evaporative Canister was recalled for Dodge Challenger 2014 in 2021. The car was taken to the Chrysler Dodge Dealership and they confirmed the repair. November 2023 the engine light came on. Another mechanic completed a smoke test and determined the evaporative canister to be faulty. Both Chrysler Dodge Dealership and Chrysler Corporate office refused to remedy the issue, despite this being a recall. A faulty evaporative canister is a safety issue due to emitting additional pollution and adding to the green house effect.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-21
- VIN: 2C3CDYBT8EH
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I bought this vehicle after only having 28,000 miles on it required the water pump to be replaced. That should not be the case. The vehicle started running hot again after having the original water pump replaced about a year ago. At this point I had only put an additional 12,000 miles on the vehicle. Now the company that put the water pump on is saying I need a new engine on a vehicle that only has 40,000 miles on it. This should not be the case and I'd like the NHTSA look into this as a faulty engine from the manufacturer.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

- Summary: On 2/25/23 we started noticing the smell of gasoline around the 2014 dodge challenger, so we stated looking around the gas cap and down around the gas tank and noticed a small few drops of gasoline on the ground near the gas tank. But Didn't notice exactly where the leak was coming from the tank or around the tank. So keep an eye out over the next week then we started noticing a bigger drip mark. We are not driving the vehicle due to leak from gas tank for fear of explosion and fire. We sent the car to our mechanics to check it out . He said the tank was leaking due to being warped, this was not the first time he had seen this problem in the 2014 dodge challengers. He said we will need to replace the tank. We are very concerned with this problem, we enjoy our dodge and are considering buy a new one when the time comes, but will have to reconsider with this type of problem looming. So we parked the car outside and away from the house for fear of fire danger.
POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-28
- VIN: 2C3CDYAG0EH

- Summary: I was entering onto the highway and accelerating up to speed. When the car suddenly jerked multiple times, the vehicle did not accelerate, but the RPMs redlined. I then lost power while entering the highway. The vehicle would not restart, so I pulled onto the shoulder of the interstate. Almost being hit multiple times by other motor vehicles. I attempted to restart the car without any success. The vehicle was towed home to my residency, until I could have it towed to a mechanics shop for further diagnoise. UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-02-13
- VIN: 2c3cdyag0eh
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Oil housing adapter has failed and needs replacing. I went to two different shops (independent and dealership) that stated the part is made of plastic and has a tendency to fail. Yes my safety is at risk due to the fact the car can run hot at any given time. Yes the car has been inspected and no there hasn't been any warning lights. When I took the car in for another problem, the tech noticed that the part was cracked and needs replacing. I am not sure why Chrysler would make a plastic part this close to an engine and now it is causing problems for customers. The part is currently on backorder because so many have failed.

ON 10/3/2020 I CALLED THE NUMBER ON THE REMINDER CARD THAT I RECEIVED ON 102/2020 AND WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE IN SHORT SUPPLY AND "IT'S A MESS". I AGREE, I DON'T THINK CHRYSLER IS TAKING THIS RECALL SERIOUSLY BECAUSE IT SHOULDN'T TAKE 4 MONTHS, AND COUNTING, TO RESOLVE AN ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP THAT I'VE BEEN COMMUNICATING WITH IS CHAPMAN DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP, AT 3175 E. SAHARA AVE, LAS VEGAS, NV 89104. PHONE 702-457-1061.

Positive 2014 Dodge Challenger car reviews

Hi there! I recently bought a 2014 Challenger SXT with only 3400 miles on it, and I'm loving it so far! The previous owner traded it in for a Dodge Durango R/T due to hip replacement surgery. With 305 HP, this V-6 is snappy and impressive. I did replace the stock exhaust with aftermarket glass packs to give it a nice throaty growl. The leather package looks great, although the plastics are a bit hard and cheaper looking, but that's to be expected with the base model. The black 5 spoke wheels are a nice touch too. I've had the opportunity to drive it on some twisty roads in the Allegheny Mountains in South Central PA, and it handles quite well for a large, heavy car. Although I'm currently dealing with a check engine light issue, I still love my Challenger and get lots of compliments on it. It's definitely the car that people admire, not me! Thanks for reading.

There is nothing bad I can say about this car. I loved how it drove, rode, and how it felt safe. My only issue was that it doesn't have good visibility when reversing, which a back-up camera would help with. Unfortunately, mine didn't have one. Additionally, it's a big car, so navigating it down the narrow streets of Los Angeles was a bit of a pain. However, overall, it's a great, safe, fast, and stylish car!

When considering purchasing a car such as the SXT, R/T, SRT, SCAT PACK, etc., it's important to weigh your options carefully. As a car enthusiast, you may find yourself wanting more power after driving the ACT. Personally, I love the car and as a college student on a budget, the SXT was the perfect fit for me. Despite being a V6, the 5.7 Liter engine still delivers great performance. It's a fun car to drive and definitely catches the eye. I can't speak much to its reliability as I've only owned it for a month. If you decide to go for the ACT, you may want to consider replacing the head unit for a better entertainment experience. One of the things I appreciate about the Challenger is how easy it is to customize. You won't be disappointed!

I've owned this car since it was new, for over 10 years now. I still stand by my initial statement: the STR8 Challenger is the best GT car I've ever driven. If you're looking to cover long distances, there's no better way to do it. While it may not be the fastest Challenger anymore, it's still faster than most. The handling is very good, the ride is excellent, and it even gets good fuel economy on those long road trips - 22+ mpg, and I don't drive with a light foot. You don't even need the excellent sound system; the exhaust system does a nice job of setting the mood. It runs and drives as well now as the day I bought it. It's really sad that 2023 marks the end of the road for this generation.

This car has a great design and looks amazing! However, it could use some improvement in handling as the ride can be quite bumpy. Repairs can be a bit pricey, but with some research, you can find more affordable options online. While the engine can be a bit noisy, it's great that Dodge covered the lifters under powertrain warranty. The car does have some blind spots, but overall it's a great ride. The MDS technology may not be the most fuel-efficient, but it's still a great feature to have.

This vehicle was a bit of a nightmare. The transmission shifts rough and it seems like this car was literally a black cat. I almost got hit many times in this vehicle.

I've been a fan of Mopar for most of my life and have owned many Dodge trucks. Recently, I purchased a one-owner 2013 R/T Challenger with low miles and bought the extended warranty (thankfully). Unfortunately, shortly after purchase, the engine started making a tapping sound within the first 500 miles of ownership. I took it to my local dealer for a new alternator (under a recall) and they discovered that it needed new lifters ($3500). Fortunately, the warranty covered it, but soon after, the engine started clattering and eventually blew up. The dealer said it needed a new motor and that they have replaced many Hemis due to dry cylinders with deactivation. A new engine was $10,000, which the extended warranty initially didn't want to cover, but under duress from attorneys, they decided to pay up. I drove the car to another dealership that day to sell it to them and paid $500 of my own money just to get out from under the payments. That is the last Dodge I will buy newer than a 2005. My 2005 Ram 1500 Hemi WITHOUT the Multi-Displacement System has just over 190,000 miles and runs like new. If you're considering purchasing a Hemi, I recommend doing some research about the issues with lifters, etc. Buyer beware!
