2019 Dodge Challenger problems

dodge logo

The Dodge Challenger is the name of three different generations of automobiles produced by American automobile manufacturer Dodge. However, the first use of the Challenger name by Dodge was in 1959 for marketing a "value version" of the full-sized Coronet Silver Challenger.

From model years 1970 to 1974, the first generation Dodge Challenger pony car was built using the Chrysler E platform in hardtop and convertible body styles sharing major components with the Plymouth Barracuda.

The second generation, from model years 1978 to 1983, was a badge engineered Mitsubishi Galant Lambda / Sapporo, a coupe version of an economical compact car.

The third and current generation is a full-size muscle car that was introduced in early 2008 originally as a rival to the evolved fifth generation Ford Mustang and the fifth generation Chevrolet Camaro.

In November 2021, Stellantis announced that 2023 model year would be the final model year for both the LD Dodge Charger and LA Dodge Challenger, as the company will focus its future plans on electric vehicles rather than fossil fuel powered vehicles, due to tougher emissions standards required by the Environmental Protection Agency for the 2023 model year. Challenger production ended on December 22, 2023, and the Brampton, Ontario assembly plant will be re-tooled to assemble an electrified successor.

Common 2019 Dodge Challenger problems

The 2019 Dodge Challenger is a powerful and stylish muscle car that has been praised for its performance and design. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its issues. Here are some of the most common problems reported by owners of the 2019 Dodge Challenger, based on online reviews and complaints:

  1. Faulty speed sensor: Some owners have reported issues with the speed sensor, which can cause the speedometer to display incorrect speeds. This can be a safety issue, as it may cause drivers to unintentionally exceed speed limits or drive too slowly.
  2. Low brake fluid: Some owners have reported low brake fluid levels, which can lead to decreased braking performance and increased stopping distances. This can be a serious safety issue, and should be addressed as soon as possible.
  3. Total brake failure: In rare cases, owners have reported total brake failure, which can be a life-threatening situation. This issue is typically caused by a combination of factors, including low brake fluid, worn brake pads, and faulty brake lines.
  4. Rearview camera display issues: Some owners have reported that the rearview camera image remains displayed after the vehicle has been shifted out of reverse. This can be a distraction for drivers and increase the risk of accidents.
  5. Incompatible front wheel and brake package: Some 2019 Dodge Challenger vehicles have been installed with an incompatible front wheel and brake package, which can cause the front tire to contact the steering knuckle and potentially damage the tire. This can lead to sudden air pressure loss and increase the risk of accidents.
  6. Instrument cluster illumination issues: Some owners have reported that the instrument cluster may not properly illuminate driver warnings, which can increase the risk of accidents.

It is important to note that not all 2019 Dodge Challenger vehicles will experience these issues, and many owners have reported no problems with their vehicles. However, if you are considering purchasing a 2019 Dodge Challenger, it is important to be aware of these potential issues and to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic before making a purchase. Additionally, it is always a good idea to stay up-to-date with recalls and safety bulletins for your vehicle, and to address any issues as soon as they arise.

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-08-10
  • VIN: 2C3CDZBT5KH
  • Components: SUSPENSION,WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I had a flat tire while driving to work and was unable to pull over for about a few thousand feet. As the tire went flat I swirled into the grass on a street without a shoulder. The tire snapped off and was not locatable. I filed a police report and called the police at time of incident. The total damage on the vehicle was under $3,000 but because the tire snapped off and damaged the firewall Dodge stated that the vehicle had to be a total loss. This was a 2019 challenger there should be no reason for a wheel to snap off like such. After visiting several Dodge chat rooms I have learned that this is very common with the challenger and needs to be addressed with a class action suit and safety recall! This happens very often to Dodge challenger consumers

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-28
  • VIN: 2C3CDZL95KH
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: On my way to work on 9/28/23 my 2019 dodge challenger hellcat Redeye engine just shut off at 65mph. I was in the left lane by the wall on I45 heading northbound. I instantly had a loss of power steering and braking. The engine just shut off. A check engine light came on and the dash said shift I to park to start. I was successfully able to get across 4 lanes of traffic to stop on the apron between o ram and side of freeway. When I shifted to park and to try to restart it would not start. Had to be towed to dealership where upon inspection they said the motor was locked. When broken down a valve just dropped into the cylinder and jammed into the piston and cylinder wall. Pieces also damaged the head and the supercharger and dealer says starter is fried. Mopar is digging in and acting like this isn’t an issue but online there are several class actions and forums about defective valve system in these engines. Had I been a novice driver or my wife with children jn the car she would likely not been able to get off to a safe place and stalled dead in the fast lane of a very busy Houston roadway.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-05-24
  • VIN: 2C3CDZJG1KH
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: My 2019 Dodge Challenger GT harness has been compromised. The electrical system in a vehicle, including the headlight circuit, is designed to operate within specific parameters to ensure safety and reliability. When a harness is compromised it can cause an electrical short circuit. In my case, this short circuit is causing a fuse to melt. A fuse is a safety device designed to protect electrical circuits from overheating and potential fires by breaking the circuit when excess current flows through it. When a fuse melts due to an electrical short caused by a faulty harness, it means that excessive current is passing through the circuit. This situation can be dangerous for several reasons 1. Loss of headlights: The melted fuse interrupts the flow of electricity to the headlights, resulting in them going out completely. This sudden loss of visibility can be hazardous, especially at night or in lowlight conditions, increasing the risk of accidents. 2. Overheating: The excessive current passing through the compromised harness generates heat, often leading to melting or damage to surrounding components. This can potentially cause a fire hazard, posing a serious risk to both vehicle occupants and the car itself. 3. Electrical damage: In addition to the headlights, a compromised harness can affect other electrical components in the affected circuit, such as the turn signals, fog lights, or other lighting systems. It can also damage the vehicle's control modules and wiring, leading to further malfunctions and costly repairs. Replacing the faulty harness is crucial to restore the electrical integrity of the headlight circuit and ensure proper functionality. By replacing the harness, you eliminate the risk of further short circuits, melted fuses, and potential damage to other electrical components. It is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure your safety on the road and prevent any potential accidents caused by reduced visibility or electrical malfunctions.

I brought it in to one shop and they said its probably a software update and to take it to Dodge and it should be free. Dodge told me it's probably not software, kept my car for 5 days and told me it was a software update and that they updated it for free but still charged me $175 for the "diagnosis" when I told them exactly what the issue was. And now that I got it back, it gets stuck in reverse, you have to turn the vehcile off and wait and start it again then it works. Negative 2019 Dodge Challenger car reviews

  1. Justus Heller 2024-09-27

The 2019 Challenger R/T Hemi with 8-speed auto has only 150 miles on it, but unfortunately, the driver window got stuck and there was no power. However, I was able to find a solution to recalibrate the window stuck position on YouTube. After restarting the car a few times, the driver door started working again. Although this issue is covered under warranty, it is disappointing to experience it on a new car. Despite this, I remain confident in the quality of Lexus, Toyota, and Honda vehicles and will be exploring those options in the future.

  2. Orin Daugherty 2024-06-12

Great forward acceleration, comfortable seats, and a roomy interior. Although it handles like a boat on ice when cornering, it still has great looks!

  3. Verner Lowe 2024-03-05

I recently purchased a used 2019 Challenger GT in Go Mango Orange and while it's a beautiful car, I have noticed a few issues. The Pentastar v-6 lacks the power and torque of the bigger 5.7 or 6.4 liter v-8's, but the car still gets decent gas mileage (18mpg in city). I have also had an issue with the driver's side window not sealing properly, which can be a bit annoying. However, overall the interior is nice and the car is fun to drive. If you're looking for more power, I would recommend going for a 5.7 or 6.4 Hemi v-8, but keep in mind that gas mileage will suffer. I have also noticed some quality control issues, such as a loose piece of plastic under the trunk spoiler and small pin pricks in the paint. While Dodge may not have the best reputation for paint jobs, I still enjoy driving my Challenger GT. This is actually my third Challenger and I have always found them to be great cars.

Positive 2019 Dodge Challenger car reviews

  1. Lorenzo Kessler 2024-11-29

Just a quick note, the dropdown menu didn't have my 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat Plus 6.2 Ltr 2.4 Ltr supercharged Beast. I must say, this is a well-thought-out true muscle car that really excites the soul when unleashing the Beast! It was a great purchase of a vehicle that will be remembered for decades as a car that stayed true to its roots of the 70s. Even as we enter the EV era, every time I hit start on my Hellcat, I'm reminded of how far Dodge has come with its monstrous exhaust and supercharger whine. This is a drag beast, without apologies.

  2. Candido Ruecker 2024-11-28

Hi there! What a lovely little gem you have there!

  3. Glen Carter 2024-11-23

Everything is great so far! The product has power and looks great.

  4. Saul Gerhold 2024-09-18

Great car, you'll love it forever!

  5. Hoyt Hettinger 2024-09-16

The V-6 is nice, but it would be even better with a V-8 for almost the same price. Otherwise, the price for a V-8 is a little high for just 2 more cylinders.
