1999 Chrysler Lhs problems
The Chrysler LHS is a full-size luxury four-door sedan that was produced by Chrysler for the 1994 through the 2001 model years, with a one-year hiatus for 1998. It replaced the Chrysler Imperial and the Chrysler Fifth Avenue as the division's flagship model. The LHS was rebadged as the Concorde Limited for the 2002 model year.
First generation (1994–1997)
Introduced in May 1993 for the 1994 model year, the Chrysler LHS was the top of the line model for the division, as well as the most expensive of the Chrysler LH platform cars. All the LH-series models shared a 113.0-inch (2,870 mm) wheelbase and were developed using Chrysler's new computer drafting system.
The car was differentiated from the division's New Yorker sedan by its bucket leather seats (the New Yorker had a bench seat) and standard features such as alloy wheels that were options on the New Yorker. Further differences between the Chrysler LHS and its New Yorker counterpart were a floor console and shifter, five-passenger seating, lack of chrome trim, an upgraded interior, and a sportier image. From the 1996 model year on the New Yorker was dropped in favor of a six-passenger option on the LHS. The LHS received a minor face change in 1995 when the corporate-wide Pentastar emblem was replaced with the revived Chrysler brand emblem.
Standard features of the LHS included a 3.5 L EGE 24-valve 214 hp (160 kW; 217 PS) V6 engine, body-colored grille, side mirrors and trim, traction control, aluminum wheels, integrated fog lights, 8-way power-adjustable front seats, premium sound systems with amplifiers, and automatic temperature control. Unlike the New Yorker, leather seats were standard.

WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR ONE YEAR, IT HAS 91,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN YOU TURN TO THE LEFT PAST CENTER THE STEERING ALMOST COMPLETELY STOPS WORKING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION. THEY SAID THEY HAD TO DRIVE IT FOR $45, WHICH IS A JOKE CONSIDERING YOU COULD BARELY TURN IT LEFT JUST SITTING THERE. WE WENT AHEAD AND LET THEM AND THEY INFORMED US THE STEERING RACK WAS FAILING, AND IT WOULD COST $1200 TO FIX. THE STEERING IS ALMOST COMPLETELY USELESS NOW, UNLESS I'M DRIVING IN THE INDY 500. STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2008-08-10
- VIN: 2C3HC56G0XH
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
- Summary: RACK AND PINION AND OUTER TIE ROD FAILURE ON MY 1999 CHRYSLER LHS. I PURCHASED THE CAR APPROX 30 MONTHS AGO AND IT ONLY HAD 3000 MILES OR 5400 KILOMETERS. THE STEERING FAILED ON AUGUST 10 2008. I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND THE STEERING FROZE AND I COULD NOT WITH ALL OF MY STRENGTH TURN THE WHEELS TO THE LEFT.....WHEN IT FAILED, THE CAR ONLY HAD 34,544 KILOMETERS AND NOW HAS 35000. I HAVE HAD IT REPAIRED AT A LOCAL GARAGE AT THE APPROX. COST OF 1400.00 DOLLARS. SEEMS TO ME THAT THE CAR HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE AND I HAVE BEEN DOING ALOT OF READING ABOUT THIS AND THIS SHOULD DEFINITELY QUALIFY AS A RECALL ITEM. WHAT I REALLY THINK IS THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD MAKE EVERY ATTEMPT TO REPAIR AND REPAY ALL OF THE CONSUMERS THAT HAVE ALREADY HAD THEIR VEHICLE REPAIRED. ALSO I WOULD LIKE THEM TO MAKE SOME SERIOUS CHANGES TO THE STEERING SYSTEM WHICH IN MY EYES IS A VERY DANGEROUS SYSTEM AND IS PRONE TO FAILURE THAT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY. NOW THAT IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED, I STILL FIND SOME CLUNKING NOISES AND THE STEERING IS VERY STIFF WHEN YOU FIRST BEGIN DRIVING...I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE OUTER TIE RODS BECAUSE THEY WERE VERY NOISY AND UNSAFE AND THAT WAS DONE APPROX 30 DAYS BEFORE THE STEERING RACK WAS REPLACED....IF I CAN ASSIST YOU IN ANY WAY, PLEASE CONTACT ME AND I WOULD BE HAPPY TO DO SO. THANK YOU. *TR

Beautiful to look at. Great ride. The only problems were that the motors on all four windows had to be replaced over time and the windows would stick shut. Additionally, there was some annoying wind noise. However, it was a wonderful long distance driver with a huge trunk and great sound system. The seats were comfortable and the engine was strong. It could cruise all day at 90mph.
-
This is an excellent value! The engine is great, boasting 235HP. The heated leather seats and Infinity sound system are fantastic. The fuel economy is also impressive for this class, ranging from 25-30 hwy. While the trunk is quite spacious, shortening the overall vehicle length or increasing leg room by shrinking the trunk could have been considered. Although the interior noise level is a bit high for a luxury car, it handles well with 17-inch alloy wheels and low-profile tires. If you're looking for a sporty luxury car without having to go to Mercedes or BMW, this is the one!
-
Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned a couple of issues with your car, such as the lack of reverse and some problems with the heater control. However, I'm glad to hear that you still love your car despite these issues. Just to clarify, are there any other problems that you're experiencing? Let me know if there's anything I can do to help!
-
I love the LHS! I've owned multiple LHSs and keep coming back for more. My sister also owns an LHS and I've owned three. Even after 10 years, my '99 is still one of the best-looking cars on the road. Driving this car feels like driving a much more expensive, high-end luxury vehicle. The acceleration is phenomenal, considering the weight of the car. The comfort is second to none, although the road and wind noise can be a bit sub-par. There are a few minor issues, such as the dash tending to split on the passenger side, door seals falling, speed sensors having a history of going in this make, headlight seals separating, and the headlight lenses tending to yellow and become milky. However, all of these are easy to fix!
-
I recently moved from a Park Avenue to the LHS and I must say, I would definitely buy another LHS if it were available. It's a great value for the price. Although I may not purchase its replacement, as it lacks the affluent name and is associated with the 'Cheaper' line.

In the past 2 1/2 years, I have invested over $2,000 in my Chrysler due to various issues such as power windows, heater, heated driver's seat, cruise control, sway bar links, tie rods, and brake work. Despite its beautiful appearance, the quality of this car has been disappointing. As a confident car buyer, I will not be purchasing another Chrysler in the future.
Oswaldo Kirlin 2024-09-06
It seems like there are a few issues with the car. The heater/AC motor, starter, battery, timing belt, heated seats, and front speakers all need attention. I understand that it may be difficult to work on and repairs can be costly.
Rhett Runolfsson 2024-06-12
The driver's window motor has been replaced twice. Despite the dealer's claim that the car shakes due to the tires, and the tire dealer's claim that it's the car, I am confident that the issue lies with the car. The rubber seal around both headlights came loose, but I have taken the necessary steps to address this issue. Although the replacement part for the driver's seat has been on order for almost 4 weeks, I am confident that it will arrive soon. While there have been some noises from the front suspension, most of them have been repaired within 2 years. As for the road noise, I am confident that it is within acceptable levels. Overall, while there have been some disappointments with what was sold as their top of the line, I am confident that these issues can be resolved with the right approach.

Dealership prices for repairs can be quite high, which can be a concern for some. However, our vehicles are built to last and are designed to minimize the need for repairs. We stand behind the quality of our products and are confident in their reliability.

What a beautiful car! Although, I did have a few issues with it. Unfortunately, at 39,000 miles, the timing belt jumped off the track and damaged the engine, which cost $3000 to repair. Since it was out of warranty due to the year, Chrysler was unable to assist me. Additionally, I needed a new battery, which required removing the right front wheel (incurring additional labor costs). At 42,000 miles, I had to replace the fan in the radiator area, which cost $350. The front speakers are no longer working, and the rear window is also not functioning. Despite these issues, the car is still running at 44,000 miles. However, I was told by a mechanic that Chryslers tend to have problems after 50K miles. I have decided to sell the car as soon as possible.
