1997 Chrysler Cirrus problems
The Chrysler Cirrus is a mid-sized 4-door notchback sedan introduced by Chrysler motors for the 1995 model year. Built on the Chrysler JA platform, the 4-door notchback sedan joined Chrysler's roster of "Cloud Car" models drawing their names from meteorological terms, including the mid-priced Dodge Stratus it was based on introduced at the same time, and the low-priced Plymouth Breeze variant a year later.
Design
Development of the Cirrus started in 1991, with the goal of creating an affordable, expressive-looking, fun-to-drive vehicle that was still safe enough to transport an everyday family.
The concept car designed for the 1992 auto show circuit featured rear suicide doors and a 400 hp (298 kW; 406 PS) turbocharged 3.0 L two-stroke engine using alcohol fuel. The concept also foreshadowed a hood-line with almost no break with the windshield to improve aerodynamics.
Both the concept and production model used the Chrysler Corporation's new cab-forward design, which was launched on the larger LH sedans in 1992. This three-box design was characterized by a large passenger cabin in proportion to a comparatively short hood and trunk, highlighted by a long, dramatically slanted windshield and short overhangs. Pushing the wheels further to the corners of the body created a much larger cabin than most other similarly sized vehicles of that time.
The a four-door notchback sedan was designed with flowing lines with no distinct beginning or end, but almost resembled a two-box fastback. Design work was done during 1991, with the final version moved on for production by 1992.

Hi there! From what I can gather, it seems like you haven't had your car for very long and have only put around 6,000 miles on it over the past 2-3 months. I understand that the mileage tracker may not always work, but it sounds like the car's interior is well-designed and spacious. Although there may be some issues with the cup holders, the stereo system is great and has a lot of bass for a stock system. It's great to hear that your car has been reliable enough to get you to school and work every day. However, it may not be the best option for a long road trip from Michigan to Florida due to its gas consumption. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me!
-
This vehicle has been in the shop only once in 11 years for a minor repair, other than normal service. I have consistently gotten 28 to 30 mpg, and it handles as well as most sports cars. I have driven everything with 4 to 18 wheels and cannot understand paying 30 to 45 thousand for bells and whistles when this car can still be purchased in the low 20's.
-
Since you have owned this vehicle, you have not had any problems. It's great to hear that it's easy for you to keep the gas tank full and that it always starts gracefully. Additionally, it's wonderful that there is enough room for your family to sit very comfortably. Thank you for sharing your positive experience!
-
Hey there! This car is a real beauty, with stunning looks and a powerful V6 engine that will last you a long time with proper maintenance. The only issue I encountered was with the water pump.
-
This has been the best Chrysler product I have ever driven. I purchased the car with only 43 miles on it, as a leftover, and have driven it for a trouble-free 143,000 miles. My only complaint is the seat travel, as you feel a little too close to the dashboard. With the great room in the back, a little more travel would have been nicer. Now, at 143K, the car is beginning to need some maintenance. The radio is getting flaky, and some bushing and suspension parts need replacing. But after 143K, can I really complain? Absolutely not!

The body and interior are great. The mechanical layout and design quality could use some improvement. During the first 100K miles, some service was performed, including replacing the transmission servo-valve package due to leaks. Research has shown that this is a common issue for this Chrysler transmission. Additionally, the front axle, water pump, and timing belt were replaced. It can be frustrating when manufacturers bury limited life components deep inside the engine. Of course, other normal wear items like brakes also needed to be replaced.

I'm glad to hear that you've had a positive experience with your car! It's great to know that you've been able to put 100,000 miles on it with only minor issues like brakes. The roominess and comfort sound like definite pluses as well. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I am confident in my decision to trade in my Chrysler for a better car. The cost of maintaining it, with over 3 recalls and repairs needed for the tires, brakes, A/C, and other miscellaneous issues costing over $1,000 per year, has become too much. I have decided to invest in a more reliable vehicle. Thank you for your understanding.
