The Chrysler Cirrus is a mid-sized 4-door notchback sedan introduced by Chrysler motors for the 1995 model year. Built on the Chrysler JA platform, the 4-door notchback sedan joined Chrysler's roster of "Cloud Car" models drawing their names from meteorological terms, including the mid-priced Dodge Stratus it was based on introduced at the same time, and the low-priced Plymouth Breeze variant a year later.
Design
Development of the Cirrus started in 1991, with the goal of creating an affordable, expressive-looking, fun-to-drive vehicle that was still safe enough to transport an everyday family.
The concept car designed for the 1992 auto show circuit featured rear suicide doors and a 400 hp (298 kW; 406 PS) turbocharged 3.0 L two-stroke engine using alcohol fuel. The concept also foreshadowed a hood-line with almost no break with the windshield to improve aerodynamics.
Both the concept and production model used the Chrysler Corporation's new cab-forward design, which was launched on the larger LH sedans in 1992. This three-box design was characterized by a large passenger cabin in proportion to a comparatively short hood and trunk, highlighted by a long, dramatically slanted windshield and short overhangs. Pushing the wheels further to the corners of the body created a much larger cabin than most other similarly sized vehicles of that time.
The a four-door notchback sedan was designed with flowing lines with no distinct beginning or end, but almost resembled a two-box fastback. Design work was done during 1991, with the final version moved on for production by 1992.

I had a Cirrus which I purchased new in 2000 and drove everyday for nearly 8 years. I had no mechanical problems at all. I changed the oil every 3,500 miles and replaced tires and the battery once. I had 135,000 miles on it when I traded it for a new Chrysler Sebring.

Hi there! I'm actually only the third owner of this vehicle since March '02. I recently spent $240 to repair the Idle Speed Control, but despite that, I still love it! Even though the display of the radio doesn't work, I can still enjoy the premium sound. The 2.5L engine and luxury interior make it great to drive on the highway, and the good ABS has helped me out many times.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with this car that I use for business. I drive around 1000 miles per week and I have to say, it's been pretty reliable. I make sure to service it regularly and keep an eye on the fluids. So far, I've only had to replace the transmission servo and oil pressure sending unit. It has a V6 engine and performs really well. On one of my trips, which was around 460 miles of interstate driving at 80 mph, I still managed to get an impressive 29 mpg! The interior is comfortable and simple, which I really appreciate. My goal is to get around 250 or 300K miles out of it, as long as it continues to be reliable. Thanks for listening!

I am the third owner of this vehicle and it has been fantastic since day one. I have had no major problems with it at all. It has great fuel economy, a large trunk, and plenty of interior room. The A/C still blows ice cold, all power accessories work perfectly, and the engine and transmission are in great condition. The car has close to 150000 miles on it now and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. I loved this car so much that I bought an 06 Stratus and have been equally pleased, but I still use the Cirrus as my everyday car and even on long trips.

The car handles really well and feels very stable on the road. Despite being a small V6, the gas mileage could be better. The cabin is spacious and airy, providing ample sunlight which can make the air conditioning work harder in the summer, but it helps to warm the car in the winter. The car offers plenty of headroom for people over 6 feet tall, and the large bottom seat cushion provides good thigh support, which is not commonly found in most imports. The car comes with a lot of standard features that make you feel like you're driving a top-of-the-line Chrysler model, rather than a lesser-equipped Dodge Stratus/Plymouth Breeze. The engine performs best when revved, but it doesn't require everything it's got to pass other vehicles.

I purchased this car used with only 20k miles on it. Fortunately, I had the foresight to purchase an extended warranty, which proved to be a wise decision. In the first three years of ownership, I had to make several repairs, but thanks to the warranty, I didn't have to pay for them out of pocket. Since the warranty expired, I have spent an average of $1500 per year on mechanical repairs, which is not ideal, but I understand that these things happen. While I have had some issues with this car, I am still grateful for the warranty that saved me a lot of money. I hope that Chrysler can improve their products in the future, but for now, I may consider other options.

On top of that, it's not great that you're experiencing an idle knock in the lower end of the motor/tranny at only 55,000 miles. However, it's great to hear that you've enjoyed the creature comforts and the fast acceleration. I'm glad to hear that you're considering purchasing this car! It was purchased at 95,000 miles from someone I knew and was looking for something inexpensive. If you're the type of person who takes good care of their car by doing oil changes every 3k-4k, transmission serviced every 30k, and doing the major overhaul/tune-up at 100,000 and again at 160,000, while also avoiding rough roads, this car will last and last. It currently has 171,000 miles on it and while it may not be a luxury vehicle compared to what's on the road today, it is cheap to operate and gets pretty good gas mileage for a car built in 1997. If you're considering purchasing one with lower miles (if you can find one), I would only recommend doing so if you can be shown repair records. I believe this car will last until 200,000 miles.
