Chrysler Cirrus problems

The Chrysler Cirrus is a mid-sized 4-door notchback sedan introduced by Chrysler motors for the 1995 model year. Built on the Chrysler JA platform, the 4-door notchback sedan joined Chrysler's roster of "Cloud Car" models drawing their names from meteorological terms, including the mid-priced Dodge Stratus it was based on introduced at the same time, and the low-priced Plymouth Breeze variant a year later.
Design
Development of the Cirrus started in 1991, with the goal of creating an affordable, expressive-looking, fun-to-drive vehicle that was still safe enough to transport an everyday family.
The concept car designed for the 1992 auto show circuit featured rear suicide doors and a 400 hp (298 kW; 406 PS) turbocharged 3.0 L two-stroke engine using alcohol fuel. The concept also foreshadowed a hood-line with almost no break with the windshield to improve aerodynamics.
Both the concept and production model used the Chrysler Corporation's new cab-forward design, which was launched on the larger LH sedans in 1992. This three-box design was characterized by a large passenger cabin in proportion to a comparatively short hood and trunk, highlighted by a long, dramatically slanted windshield and short overhangs. Pushing the wheels further to the corners of the body created a much larger cabin than most other similarly sized vehicles of that time.
The a four-door notchback sedan was designed with flowing lines with no distinct beginning or end, but almost resembled a two-box fastback. Design work was done during 1991, with the final version moved on for production by 1992.

Was the Chrysler Cirrus a good car?
A very good car...
I had a Cirrus which I purchased new in 2000 and drove everyday for nearly 8 years. I had no mechanical problems at all. I changed the oil every 3,500 miles and replaced tires and the battery once. I had 135,000 miles on it when I traded it for a new Chrysler Sebring.
What type of engine is a Cirrus?
The Cirrus and Hermes or Cirrus-Hermes are a series of British aero engines manufactured, under various changes of ownership, from the 1920s until the 1950s. The engines were all air-cooled, four-cylinder inline types, with earlier ones upright and later designs inverted.
Do Cirrus hold their value?
How is an aircraft depreciated? According to analyzes of price declines in recent years, the loss of value of Cirrus aircraft has been around 20% in 6 years, including generational change with significant innovation (SR22T GTS G5-G6).

I bought this car new and it has been very reliable. I now have 129000 miles on it. Just a friendly reminder to be careful about the transmission fluid on this vehicle. It is important to use Chrysler transmission fluid, as the manual warns, to avoid damaging the transmission.

I bought my Cirrus used at 32K and it has been a reliable car for me. Despite having 175K miles on it, it still runs great. Over the years, I have had to replace a few parts such as the crank sensor, oxygen sensor, front end stabilizer bars, distributor (which was quite expensive), rear brake line, and the brakes/rotors multiple times. However, it has been worth it as the car still performs very well. It still has its original muffler, battery, starter, etc. The gas mileage is okay and it has great pick up with just enough power. Since it is paid for, I plan to keep fixing it until it can no longer be fixed.

Vehicle year: 1999
I bought the car brand new in 1999 and it's still running smoothly after 10 years with just under 77K miles. The only non-routine maintenance it needed was a minor glitch with the electronics for the automatic transmission at around 30K miles, but it has been trouble-free since then. The 2.5 liter V6 engine is a winner, providing great mid-range torque for highway merging and passing, while still maintaining great fuel economy in the mid-20s mpg in mixed highway and city driving. The paint has held up remarkably well and the leather interior is still in great condition. The sunroof still works perfectly. I see no reason why I won't be driving it for another 2-3 years. If Chrysler had built all their models this well, the company would be in a much better shape!

I bought this car new and it's been the best car I've ever owned! I love it. Although I did have some minor problems, the only major issue was when the rear brake lines burst once. I've also noticed that the air conditioning is getting weak now, but I guess that's to be expected since it's getting pretty old. I hope my next car will be just as good!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share that I've had this car since 2001, and it's been in the family for a while now. My son drove it for a couple of years, and now my daughter has it. It has 110,000 miles on it, and I'm happy to say that it's been running smoothly. I make sure to maintain it properly, and I even changed the timing belt at 90,000 miles for safety reasons. I'm confident that I could get at least 200,000 miles out of it. Thanks for listening!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car. It currently has 61,000 miles and although I've had a few issues with it, I'm happy to say that I've recently switched to a Honda Accord which has been running smoothly for the past four years and 52,000 miles. I've been a loyal Chrysler owner for 36 years, but I've decided to try something new. Thank you for listening!

I purchased this car used with only 20k miles on it. Fortunately, I had the foresight to purchase an extended warranty, which proved to be a wise decision. In the first three years of ownership, I had to make several repairs, but thanks to the warranty, I didn't have to pay for them out of pocket. Since the warranty expired, I have spent an average of $1500 per year on mechanical repairs, which is not ideal, but I understand that these things happen. While I have had some issues with this car, I am still grateful for the warranty that saved me a lot of money. I hope that Chrysler can improve their products in the future, but for now, I may consider other options.

The body and interior are great. The mechanical layout and design quality could use some improvement. During the first 100K miles, some service was performed, including replacing the transmission servo-valve package due to leaks. Research has shown that this is a common issue for this Chrysler transmission. Additionally, the front axle, water pump, and timing belt were replaced. It can be frustrating when manufacturers bury limited life components deep inside the engine. Of course, other normal wear items like brakes also needed to be replaced.

Vehicle year: 1998
I purchased this car back in 2004 when it had 63,000 miles on it. It's a spacious car with a great Mitsubishi V6 engine that provides good power and is loaded with features that were impressive for its time (1998). It ran smoothly until it reached 84,000 miles. I had to replace the motor belt at 85,000 miles for $65, and there was a leak in one of the engine parts that cost $200 to fix. At 90,000 miles, there was an antifreeze leak that cost $200 to repair, and the fuel pump had to be replaced at 103,000 miles for $500. The gaskets were replaced at 105,000 miles for $200. Overall, it's been a good car, especially up to 90,000 miles, after which it started showing its age. However, its performance has never decreased, and it's still peppy with a lot of power. It's a stable and reasonably reliable car.

It's really frustrating when you take such good care of your car, like I did with mine - regular oil changes every 3000 miles and even doing its 90,000 maintenance 2 months ago - and it still breaks down on you. This week, it just croaked on the side of the road and now it needs another $1200 to replace the distributor. On top of that, the back window no longer works and I figure the exhaust system will need to be replaced soon. It's just not worth it anymore. I'm tired of keeping the car repair companies in business.
