2000 Chrysler Cirrus problems
The Chrysler Cirrus is a mid-sized 4-door notchback sedan introduced by Chrysler motors for the 1995 model year. Built on the Chrysler JA platform, the 4-door notchback sedan joined Chrysler's roster of "Cloud Car" models drawing their names from meteorological terms, including the mid-priced Dodge Stratus it was based on introduced at the same time, and the low-priced Plymouth Breeze variant a year later.
Design
Development of the Cirrus started in 1991, with the goal of creating an affordable, expressive-looking, fun-to-drive vehicle that was still safe enough to transport an everyday family.
The concept car designed for the 1992 auto show circuit featured rear suicide doors and a 400 hp (298 kW; 406 PS) turbocharged 3.0 L two-stroke engine using alcohol fuel. The concept also foreshadowed a hood-line with almost no break with the windshield to improve aerodynamics.
Both the concept and production model used the Chrysler Corporation's new cab-forward design, which was launched on the larger LH sedans in 1992. This three-box design was characterized by a large passenger cabin in proportion to a comparatively short hood and trunk, highlighted by a long, dramatically slanted windshield and short overhangs. Pushing the wheels further to the corners of the body created a much larger cabin than most other similarly sized vehicles of that time.
The a four-door notchback sedan was designed with flowing lines with no distinct beginning or end, but almost resembled a two-box fastback. Design work was done during 1991, with the final version moved on for production by 1992.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-04-02
- VIN: 1C3EJ56H5YN
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: 2000 CIRRUS 2.5L ENGINE RANDOMLY STALLS AND FROST / FREEZE PLUGS RUST THROUGH. STALLING: ENGINE STOPS RUNNING WHILE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN AT ANY SPEED, WHICH LEAVES THE OPERATOR WITH NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. NO TROUBLE CODES ARE DISPLAYED OR PENDING. AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME, ROUGHLY 20 MINUTES, THE ENGINE WILL START AND RUN FINE FOR SEVERAL DAYS OR WEEKS. WHEN STALLED, IF YOU ACTIVATE THE ALARM SYSTEM AND LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOORS IT SEEMS TO CLEAR THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM AND ALLOW THE FUEL PUMP TO RUN, WHICH ALLOWS THE ENGINE TO START. HAVEN'T CRASHED YET, HOWEVER WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL HARROWING EXPERIENCES. THE INTERNET IS FULL OF CHRYSLER OWNERS WITH THIS SAME RANDOM STALLING ISSUE, TO WHICH THEY HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS REPLACING SENSORS....ETC ONLY TO FIND THAT THE CAR CONTINUES THIS RANDOM STALLING BEHAVIOR. BOTTOM LINE, THEY SELL THE CAR, WHICH MOVES THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE ON TO ANOTHER UNSUSPECTING OWNER. BOTTOM LINE THE ENGINE SHOULD NOT RANDOMLY STOP DURING OPERATION, AND IF IT DOES SHUTDOWN AS PROGRAMMED IN THE COMPUTER DUE TO A PENDING OR PERCEIVED MECHANICAL ISSUE, THE TROUBLE CODES SHOULD BE ACTIVATED. CHRYSLER KNOWS THIS IS AND ISSUE AND THEY HAVE CHOSEN TO IGNORE THIS LIFE THREATENING DEFECT, HOPING IT WILL GO AWAY WITH TIME. FROST OR FREEZE PLUGS ARE RUSTING OUT, NEVER IN MY 40 YEARS OF DRIVING HAVE I HAD A CAR THAT DID THIS. LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND AGAIN THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH CHRYSLER. SAVE 50 CENTS COST THE CUSTOMER OWNER THOUSANDS. I FIXED TWO PLUGS FRONT AND BACK ON ENGINE HOWEVER NOW THE PLUGS BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE ARE LEAKING DO TO RUST. YES I'VE CHANGED THE COOLANT AND THIS STARTED IN 2004 WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR. *TR

You have a very reliable car that you drive a lot and it has never broken down or overheated. However, it is important to have excellent tires or they will wear badly. Overall, it is an excellent car.
-
The issue with the leaky transmission was resolved after being returned for correction five times, as covered under warranty.
-
This vehicle has been exceptional! We are moving out of state and only need one car. We are looking for a car with AWD.
-
Hello! This car is quite comfortable and responsive. However, it can be a bit noisy due to both exhaust noise (which is probably intentional) and wind noise (due to a crummy window fit). Additionally, there is some elevated road noise. The sound system works okay, but it can be a bit disappointing. While this is one of Chrysler's more trouble-free models from a reliability standpoint, it's still a good idea to budget extra money for repairs. It's worth noting that the tires can make a big difference in handling, and the car tends to eat front brake pads. Thank you!
-
This car typically gets 25 miles to the gallon and has good performance. While there is no CD player installed, you can still listen to the radio or cassettes. Unfortunately, there are no ash trays. However, the car is nice looking both inside and out, especially in the gold color of the LXI model. With almost 100,000 miles on it, there have been no issues with the spark plugs or exhaust systems, and no transmission problems. The driver's door window motor did go out, but I was able to replace it myself. It's important to take care of your car and it will take care of you. One thing to keep in mind is that the front light bulb assembly is made of plastic, which can degrade over time. Overall, this is a great car that has served me well.

Hi there! I just wanted to share that I've been driving this car for almost 3 years now and it's been great! I haven't had any problems with it at all.

It sounds like you had a lot of work done on your car, including replacing the ball joints, tie rod ends, front struts, rotors and pads, rack and pinion, and the driver's window regulator. Unfortunately, the hood rusted through at the leading edge, which seems to be a common issue. It's a shame that the car required such high maintenance, especially with the front end and ignition (wires and plugs). I had a 98 Breeze before, and it had similar problems, including leaking oil by 30,000 miles. I'm glad they stopped making it, so I won't be buying another one. My brother had similar issues with his car, including the notorious front wheel bearing problems.

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I noticed that the only issue with your vehicle is that the brakes need to be replaced every 20,000 miles.

Hey there! Just wanted to give you a heads up that the brakes and transmission on this car may need some extra attention. If you're thinking of selling, now might be a good time to do so. I personally had a bit of trouble with this car, and it's made me a bit hesitant to buy American-made cars in the future. If you're experiencing any issues, it might be worth reaching out to Chrysler for some assistance. Take care!

This car was bought for my wife. So far, it has proven to be a decent automobile. The handling is pretty good for this type of vehicle and the ride quality is not too harsh. The interior is quite comfortable for long trips. However, I do have a couple of complaints. The exterior styling is not really to my taste, and the little 2.5 liter six has to be thrashed to get any real power, which can be quite noisy. All in all, though, it's still a very nice car.
