2019 Acura Rdx problems
The Acura RDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by Acura, a luxury vehicle division of Honda, as the second crossover SUV offering from the brand after the mid-size MDX. Since it was introduced, it shared its platform with the Honda Civic and CR-V.
First generation (TB1/2; 2007)
Originally previewed as the Acura RD-X concept car, the production RDX had its debut at the 2006 New York Auto Show and went on sale on August 11, 2006. A facelifted 2010 model went on sale in August 2009, which featured the addition Acura's "power plenum" grille and a front-wheel drive option.
Engine
The first-generation RDX is powered by a 2.3-litre straight-4 turbocharged gasoline engine, rated at 240 bhp (179 kW; 243 PS) at 6,000 rpm with a torque peak of 260 ft⋅lbf (350 N⋅m) at 4,500 rpm. At the time, this was uncommon among Honda vehicles.
The K23A1 engine has all-aluminum construction, an i-VTEC head, and dual balance shafts. It was also one of the only four-cylinder powered luxury SUVs of its generation. Honda's variable flow turbocharger reduces turbo lag by using a valve to narrow the exhaust passage at low rpm, increasing the velocity of the exhaust flow and keeping the turbine spinning rapidly. At higher rpm, the valve opens to allow more exhaust flow for increased boost. The engine also features a top-mounted intercooler which receives air from the grille, channeled by ducting under the hood.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated fuel mileage is 19 mpg‑US (12 L/100 km; 23 mpg‑imp) city and 23 mpg‑US (10 L/100 km; 28 mpg‑imp) highway miles per gallon. An updated EPA mileage estimate in February 2007 rated the RDX at 17 mpg‑US (14 L/100 km; 20 mpg‑imp) city and 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp) highway.

POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-06
- VIN: 5J8TC2H77KL
- Components: POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The breaks did not work while in a parking lot right after switching into drive. No major risk of any injury where this occurred. Not reported to the dealer, not inspected. No injury, no property damage. I left my wife in the vehicle with the car in park and went into the store. I came out 15 minutes later, car was running. I got in, put my foot on the break, and switch to drive? The car started rolling forward on its own. I repeatedly tried the breaks, but no response. I had steering. I gave it a little gas, and the engine reved like it was in neutral. I looked down and that point the car indicated it was in neutral. My wife said that none of the drive indicators were on while I had the issue. At some point the breaks started working, after I gave it a little gas? I got the car into drive, and tested it before moving on to verify it was behaving correctly. The forward motion of the vehicle was probably due to the slope it was parked on, rather than the car's idle power. This also matches the car then reporting it was in neutral. The biggest issue was no breaks at the point it started rolling forward. My comment was that was weird, but it scared my wife, so I am reporting it. I was operating the vehicle.

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-15
- VIN: 5J8TC2H74KL
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Near the first of the year 2024 I received a fuel pump recall notice for my 2019 Acura RDX. To date, no parts for addressing this issue have been available and no timeline has been made available as to when parts would be available. I am planning my annual trip to the Eastern Sierra in early September where no Acura dealer is available nearby. Should the fuel pump fail during that trip it would be a significant inconvenience for me, including interruption of medical appointments, room and board expenses, pet sitting expenses, etc., as I have been told by Honda that in such an emergency situation the car would have to be towed to the nearest dealership, with the part being specially ordered which would take 2 weeks and that I may be responsible for my room and board, and other costs during that period. I find this behavior to be outrageous. Additionally I have been told by my local dealer that it is not possible to determine possible failure beforehand as either it is working or it has failed. This is totally opposite from what I was told by Honda which was to schedule an appointment with a dealer to determine the status of the fuel pump so that they could special order one for replacement if it demonstrated potential failure. This entire issue reeks of poor and ineffective management of this situation by Honda, likely putting costs over safety putting me at substantial risk for this trip that was planned a year ago and likely will cost me my deposit and access privileges if canceled. As such, I am requesting that NHTSA hold Honda/Acura accountable for this disgraceful behavior, putting owners of their vehicles at substantial risk, and demand that they explore and take immediate actions to resolve the parts shortage in a reasonable amount of time.

- Summary: Spontaneous Shattering of 2019 Acura Back Windshield On June 3, 2023, while our 2019 RDX was parked with the back hatch open as we were packing to return home from a weekend away, we heard a loud noise. To our shock, we discovered the rear windshield had shattered, scattering thick black glass both inside and outside the vehicle. Fortunately, no one was near the car at the time, including our toddler and infant grandchildren, whom we transport in this vehicle twice a week. A quick search revealed that there have been reported defects and incidents of shattering windshields in 2019-2023 Acura RDX models. We were dismayed to learn that Honda has been aware of this issue since 2020 and has only notified its dealers in 2023. We understand that American Honda is currently facing legal action for not addressing this defect adequately. We were shocked and concerned that we had not been made aware of this issue, given the safety risks involved. We immediately contacted the dealership from which we purchased the car, seeking guidance on how to safely get the vehicle to them for repair. We assumed that Honda would take responsibility for this known defect. However, we were informed by two managers, that Honda is not taking responsibility for this issue. The thick black glass exploded with a loud and startling sound. The broken glass surrounded inside and outside of the car and continued to fall as we researched what to do. The danger was to my husband packing the car, to my toddler and infant grandchildren had this occurred any Tuesday or Thursday we transportation in this car, to us had it happened while driving as the sound was like a gunshot or crash, and other drivers had we reacted.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-18
- VIN: 5J8TC2H74KL
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: While driving today around 30 MPH using cruise control the display suddenly changed from showing a vehicle icon on the HUD and dashboard display to a black box with a white line around it with the words in white "Cruise Mode" and disabled my cruise control operation while I was driving. This action almost resulted in a rear end collision with the vehicle in front of me as I was barely able to stop the vehicle before hitting the rear of the car in front of me. There was no warning no message that the function was being disabled. It just suddenly happened. I have contacted multiple dealers on this, contacted Acura Emergency services and Roadside Assistance. No one has ever heard of this happening and have no idea of the cause. Acura Client Relations is closed on the weekends and has no hotline on the weekend for reporting safety issues. I can't even get any constructive feedback as to if the car is currently safe to drive without using the cruise control. I have scheduled an appointment with Acura of Fremont Service on Monday at 2:30PM PDT. This may be a flawed vehicle update that was pushed onto the vehicle while driving as I have run in car diagnostics and everything that should be normal in green seems to be. In my opinion this should be a high priority as it can lead to collisions.

Negative 2019 Acura Rdx car reviews
Positive 2019 Acura Rdx car reviews

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share some feedback on my SUV. Overall, I really love it! However, I have noticed a few things that I think need to be checked out. As I was reading through some posts, I saw that some people were experiencing turbo lag when accelerating from low speeds. I have noticed this too, and it can be a bit frustrating. Additionally, I've found that the gear shifts from 1, 2, and 3 can be quite abrupt, especially when stopping on a hill and then releasing the brake. Another issue I've noticed is that at certain speeds, the car seems to shake a bit, almost like the turbocharger is struggling. Finally, when I'm driving at high speeds and need to brake, the SUV shakes quite a bit. I'm not sure if it's the transmission downshifting or something else. Have you experienced any of these issues? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

After reading through many negative reviews, I am grateful that my own experience has been positive. I understand how frustrating it can be when your car doesn't live up to its value, but thankfully my RDX has been a pleasure to drive. The engine produces a great sound, especially during cold starts, and I love it! Despite complaints from others about the touch pad, I have found it to be very user-friendly. It did take some time to get used to, but the fixed position for controlling the infotainment is perfect. Acura made an excellent decision with the ability to swap the split screen. The only issue I have encountered is with the navigation system's speech recognition software, which is not very accurate. I have had to repeat myself several times before it gets close to the correct address. It is important to ensure that the city location is according to Acura's database. Another minor issue is with the rubber seal surrounding the panoramic roof, which is slightly off on the right side. Although it doesn't leak, there is a potential problem of dust and dirt getting trapped in that space and eventually ending up in the water drain in the sunroof. I may take it in for service to have it looked at. Other than these minor issues, I have nothing else to report. I am thoroughly enjoying my new car and it brings me nothing but joy to drive.

I researched a lot of vehicles and found that the level of items included in my Advance trim RDX is unmatched for the given price level (< $46k). The ride is solid, the interior is quiet and built with quality materials. The multi-adjusting driver's seat is outstanding, the HUD is great and the sound system in the Advance package is unreal. My only complaint thus far is that the finger pad that controls the center console can be a bit confusing, and trying to input an address in the Nav system was problematic. However, I found that using voice control was a great alternative, and the system nailed the address on the first try. Finally, the LKAS only notifies you of lane drift via vibration and visual cues. I wish it also adjusted the steering wheel to keep you in the lane like my wife's new Volvo does, but then again, the sticker price on the Volvo was $15k higher.

After spending a considerable amount of time researching SUVs in this class and test driving them, I have found a clear winner for me. The RDX excels in areas that are important to me, and while it is not perfect, it is the best choice for me. There are a couple of tricks to know to get the full benefit of the vehicle, and I will continue to update as I learn more. The comfort level is excellent, with extremely comfortable and adjustable seats. The detail level control knob is a little ways back, so you might miss it, but it does a great job of showing on-screen what parts of the chair you are adjusting. Being a tall driver, I appreciate that it extends out under the legs. Another great feature is the seat cooling and heating, which has an auto feature that is awesome. It automatically adjusts the heating and cooling of the seat based on the overall temperature. The cabin is very quiet, and the audio is better than most of the other vehicles I tried. The 4-cylinder is a little noisier accelerating than the previous six-cylinder, but it is not a distraction. My one caveat is that the hood does have noticeable ridgelines, but it is not normally distracting. In terms of drivability, I strongly recommend getting the AWD. It drives nicer, and I found out that the 2-wheel drive doesn't come with a spare tire, which is a $600 option. I was cautious about the 4-cylinder at first, but it has plenty of power and is fun to drive. The tech is very good, but it takes a little getting used to the keypad. One thing I really like is that the display is wide, so you can see quite a bit side by side. For example, if you are using Apple Carplay, in our pilot it takes up the entire screen, but this one allows you to have Apple Carplay on the main part of the screen and still see other things (like navigation if you want to use the built-in navigation) next to it.There are many convenient features in the RDX. For instance, when you need to turn off the headlights while waiting in front of a store, you can simply turn them off and they will automatically turn back on when you start moving again. The heads-up display (HUD) is also very helpful and easy to adjust. While the storage for USB and power is good, it would be even better if there was a designated spot for your phone. Regarding the issue of importing contacts, it is possible to do so by following a simple trick. After connecting via Bluetooth, go to the device on your phone, press info, and select the option to allow the phone to share contacts with that device. The RDX has excellent safety scores, which is reassuring. Lastly, when purchasing the vehicle, keep in mind that the online prices for accessories do not include installation fees. However, you can show the online prices to the parts department and they will match it. Most accessories are easy to install yourself.

I've owned my RDX for almost 5 years and I'm still very pleased with my purchase. I'm averaging 25MPG in mixed driving (I tend to have a heavy foot on the highways). To date, I've had no problems with the vehicle, even with 62K miles on it.

I experienced an issue with the Infotainment center shortly after purchasing the vehicle. Despite having driven less than 25 miles and owning the car for under 3 hours, the center began flashing between the home screen and displaying a message indicating that the touchpad was not available. Despite restarting the system, the Infotainment center screen remained unresponsive and the volume/power button on the console did not work. I am currently in a loaner vehicle while the dealer diagnoses the problem. As a customer, I am disappointed with Acura's quality control and concerned that this may not be an isolated incident.

Although RDX has a lot of potentially great technology, unfortunately far too much of it is poorly implemented. The things that I found lacking, in aggregate, caused me to move on to something different. The windshield and rear hatch glass both had crazing between the glass layers that was visible when light hit at a certain angle. The infotainment system, in general, was second class with basic functions either poorly implemented or missing entirely, as well as being slow to respond to input. The interior was noisy except for highway driving. The adaptive cruise control was slow to react to a vehicle in front. Rather than gradually slowing, it would wait until the last second then brake the vehicle. When traffic resumed speed, the RDX would do a near full throttle acceleration back to the set speed. There was also a major problem with oil being diluted with gasoline. The transmission was slow to shift into and out of reverse, and shifting was erratically rough. Some days it was good, other days not so much so. The 10-speed transmission made for a very 'busy' experience when driving in stop-and-go traffic. By the time the speed got up to 35MPH, it was in 7th gear and you feel every shift. There was also brake squealing/grinding, which was inconsistent and seemed to be temperature/humidity related.

I bought one of the first RDXs in June 2018. Although the interior and exterior look great, I have experienced several electronic issues. I have spent hours working with the dealer and Acura corporate to resolve these issues. It was a tough lesson to learn that newly released vehicles may have some issues. The steering wheel controls don't always work, the monitor had outages and it does not work in the cold weather. They claim these issues may be fixed with system update 2 but after waiting months for the first update (and it didn't fix all the issues), I'm not holding my breath. If electronics are important to you, I would recommend waiting until next year. Update Feb 2020 - I am still experiencing issues with the vehicle. I hope this information helps you make an informed decision.

The 2019 RDX is a joy to drive, with its sporty and responsive handling, and quiet ride. However, the navigation system could use some improvement. Unfortunately, it defaults to a screen scale of 1 inch = 3/4 of a mile, and it's not possible to change the scale or name favorites for frequently visited places. I understand from speaking with Acura tech support that these are known deficiencies in the system, and they were unable to commit to a software upgrade to fix them in the future. For now, I use the apple carplay feature for navigation, but this means losing some of the integration niceties with the other systems. Despite this, the RDX is still a great car overall.

I have always had Acura's or Honda's. I recently purchased the new RDX and initially loved it. However, after just four days, the entire electrical system failed and the steering wheel locked up. Luckily, I was in a parking lot at the time. Unfortunately, my experience with the dealer's service was not positive and has left me feeling disappointed. As a result, I am hesitant to trust Acura again in the future.
