1995 Cadillac Seville problems
The Cadillac Seville is a mid-size luxury car manufactured by Cadillac from the 1976 to 2004 model years as a smaller-sized, premium model. It was replaced by the STS in 2004 for the 2005 model year.
Origin of the name
The name of "Cadillac's first small car" was selected over a revival of LaSalle or the GM design staff's preference, LaScala, primarily because, as noted by GM Marketing Director Gordon Horsburgh, "It had no negatives." The initial suggestion was "Leland" in honor of one of the make's founders but it was rejected because most buyers wouldn't understand the reference and Henry Leland had also founded rival Lincoln.
Hundreds of suggestions were considered: after extensive research, LaSalle was the top pick with St. Moritz a distant second, trailed further by Seville. A troubled past (LaSalle) and difficult pronunciation (St. Moritz) led to the eventual selection of the Seville nameplate.
Seville is the name of a Spanish province and its capital, renowned for its history and treasures of art and architecture. Cadillac had first used the nameplate for a two-door hardtop version of the 1956 Eldorado. 1960 was the last model year for the Eldorado Seville, returning in 1967 under a different name.

- Anti-Theft System Malfunction: The anti-theft system in the Cadillac Seville 1995 can fail, leading to the vehicle refusing to start. This issue may require a diagnosis and potentially a complete ignition switch replacement, costing between $172 and $206.

- Date Of Incident: 2017-09-30
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1G6KS52YXSU
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: 'TAKATA RECALL' I WAS DRIVING MY 1995 CADILLAC SEVILLE OUT OF A SHOP-RITE PARKING LOT ON SEPTEMBER 30TH, 2017 AND WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. I WAS DRIVING VERY SLOWLY AS I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AND ROUTE 46 (A BUSY HIGHWAY). MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED INADVERTENTLY AND I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE AIRBAGS SMASHED THE WINDSHIELD. ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 98V115000, 1995 CADILLAC SEVILLE 'PASSENGER VEHICLES INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAGS CAN OCCUR DUE TO WATER INTRUSION.' I THEN CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS WHO STATED THAT MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECT TO THE RECALL. THEY PERFORMED AN INVESTIGATION AND INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST ME WITH THE REPAIRS BUT REFUSED TO GIVE ME A REASON. ACCORDING TO THE NHTSA WEBSITE: 'FRONTAL AIRBAGS ARE GENERALLY DESIGNED TO DEPLOY IN 'MODERATE/SEVERE' FRONTAL OR NEAR-FRONTAL CRASHES, WHICH ARE DEFINED AS CRASHES THAT ARE EQUIVALENT TO HITTING A SOLID, FIXED BARRIER AT 8-14 MPH OR HIGHER. (THIS WOULD BE EQUIVALENT TO STRIKING A PARKED CAR OF SIMILAR SIZE AT ABOUT 16-28 MPH OR HIGHER.)' SINCE I WAS GOING MUCH SLOWER THAN 8-14 MPH, I BELIEVE MY CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL AND GM IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO ASSIST ME OR ADVISE ME?

Your car looks great! It's hard to believe it's a 1995 model. You must take excellent care of it. I'm impressed that you have it serviced every three months and that it has practically new Michelin tires. It's clear that it was driven by a careful driver. Although you would like a newer model, it's great to hear that you've received many compliments on your car. The shale color is lovely!
-
Great car! I got it for my teenage son and he absolutely loves it.
-
It sounds like your car has been a reliable companion! With a new fuel pressure regulator and some tender loving care, it's been running great. And with a set of Michelins added, it's even better! It's impressive that it's still going strong at 140,000 miles. You mentioned that you'll buy another one, which is a testament to how satisfied you are with this car.
-
When I bought this car, it still looked brand new. I love admiring it in the reflection of other cars on the highway. I am now a caddy man for life! The only issue I have is that it burns a lot of gas, but I guess that's the price you pay for looking good!
-
I really enjoy my Cadillac, and I'm currently looking for a new car for my wife. However, I've noticed that the new car salespeople tend to become quiet when I mention that I drive a STS. Interestingly, they have a lot to say about my wife's car, which is a Mercury Sable (which has been a wonderful car).

I had a less than satisfactory experience with the dealership after my warranty ran out. The air conditioner issues were resolved with the most expensive options, but the problem was finally solved with a simple $89.00 outside temperature sensor. The temperature now adjusts to the setting, which is a relief. Unfortunately, I had to replace the blower motor and compressor twice, which cost me over $3,000. I was told that this would fix the problem, but it turned out that the $89 part was the solution. I would advise against going to dealerships with your problems.

I was initially skeptical of a car this heavy, but the STS can certainly move. Don't let the big caddy image fool you, it will tear up backroads with ease.

After owning the car for a year, I unfortunately experienced some issues with the transmission and air compressor. Additionally, the paint on the roof, hood, and trunk lid has faded, and there have been some oil leaks from the engine that have affected my driveway. The interior has also experienced some wear and tear, with the seat splitting and the door panels coming apart. Despite these challenges, I remain hopeful that these issues can be repaired. When I reached out to the Cadillac factory representative, I was disappointed to hear that they were unable to assist me with a used car. However, I appreciate their time and hope to find a solution to these problems soon. While this experience has been frustrating, I will continue to explore other options for my future car purchases.
