Alfa romeo Giulia 2018 problems
Alfa Romeo Giulia (Italian pronunciation: ) is the name of three not directly related models by the Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo. The first is a line of sporty four-door compact executive cars (Type 105) produced from 1962 to 1978, the second is an updated, mainly up-engined Spider, Sprint and Sprint Speciale Giuliettas, and the third Giulia is a compact executive car (type 952) unveiled in 2015.
Alfa Romeo was one of the first mainstream manufacturers to put a powerful engine in a light-weight 1 tonne (2,205 lb) four-door car for mass production. The Type 105 Giulia was equipped with a light alloy twin overhead camshaft four-cylinder engine similar to that of the earlier Giulietta (750/101) range, available in 1.3-litre (1,290 cc) and 1.6-litre (1,570 cc) versions. Various configurations of carburetors and tuning produced power outputs from about 80 to about 110 bhp (55 to 75 kW), coupled in most cases to 5-speed manual transmission.
Giulia sedans were noted for lively handling and impressive acceleration among small European four-door sedans of their era, especially considering modest engine sizes offered. The popular Super version with the twin carburettor 1.6 litre engine had a top speed of 170 km/h (106 mph) and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in about 12 seconds, better than many sports cars of the late 1960s and early 1970s. When leaving the factory all variations of the Giulia originally fitted either Pirelli Cinturato 165HR14 or 155HR15 tyres (CA67).
The styling of the boxy four-door notchback saloon was somewhat wanting. The engine bay, cabin and boot were all square shaped, buffered somewhat by details on the grill, roofline, bonnet and boot. Use of a wind tunnel during development led to a very aerodynamic shape that produced a drag coefficient of Cd=0.34, particularly low for a saloon of the era.
The Giulia Spider was succeeded by the Alfa Romeo Spider (105/115) in 1966.

Common Alfa romeo Giulia 2018 problems
The 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia has been plagued by several common problems, primarily related to the electrical system, service brakes, and powertrain issues.
- Electrical System Issues: A significant number of owners have reported electrical problems with the 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia. These issues include the car shutting off without warning and not restarting, warning lights coming on without any mechanical failures, battery draining, failures of the stop-start system, and corroded or leaking batteries. These problems can be frustrating for owners, as they often occur without warning and can lead to unexpected breakdowns.
- Service Brake Problems: The 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia has also received numerous complaints about the service brakes. Both the rear brake warning sensor and rear brake rotors have failed, and upon further inspection, it was discovered that the front brake rotors had also failed. This is a significant safety concern, as brake failures can lead to accidents and injuries.
- Powertrain Issues: The 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia has also had problems with the powertrain, with several owners reporting issues with the engine misfiring. This issue affected the 2.0-liter turbocharged models and could lead to bigger failures if left unchecked. Misfires could cause the catalytic converter to overheat and could damage engine wiring and cause additional electrical faults.
- Fuel Leaks: In 2020 and 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia models, there was a common problem with fuel leaks due to a crack in the fuel line sensor housing. This would allow fuel to leak from the fuel lines, increasing the risk of fire.
- Contaminated and Leaking Brake Fluid: 2017 and 2018 Giulia models frequently reported contaminated and leaking brake fluid. This is a significant safety concern, as brake fluid is essential for the proper functioning of the brakes.
- Inability to Disable Adaptive Cruise Control: Giulias from 2017 to 2019 had a common issue with the fuel gauge, resulting in higher readings which stranded several owners. Additionally, there was a problem with the brake module software that made it impossible to disable the adaptive cruise control system.
These common problems have earned the Alfa Romeo Giulia a reputation for being unreliable, with a J.D. Power reliability score of 74 out of 100, putting it in the average range. While the car is a joy to drive and has a striking design, its reliability issues make it a tough commitment for many buyers. Proper maintenance is essential to ensure the car remains in good working order, but the high number of recalls and issues reported by owners is a cause for concern.

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-30
- VIN: ZARFAEEN7J7
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: My fuel pump has been failing multiple times over the last 4 months. It has left me stranded in the middle of intersections, freeways, and highways on multiple occasions that has cause back up traffic and areas of the road completely closed until I can move my car. I have had this car diagnosed twice with a certified mechanic shop and a master tech with these issues and it is confirmed both times that I need a new fuel pump. When contacted Alfa Romeo/ Mike Ward dealership for review, diagnostic scans, and part replacement they told me it could be a couple of weeks until my car can even be looked at. Both my shop and the dealership have told me that this part is on back order with no ETA and no possible way of getting that part so my car can be functional. These issues first appeared when I would accelerate from a complete stop and it would take a few seconds for my car to begin moving. This slowly progressed into my check engine light, auto start/ stop error light, electric throttle error light, and front crash detection light have all turned on and remained on for about 2 months until the car began dying in the middle of the street. This had come to be so servers that the car is now no longer drivable and each time it is driven it dies within a few minutes of driving.Again since there is no ETA there is no way for me to fix my car, this is my only mode of transportation and it has left me ain multiple dangerous situations and now with no transportation now that Alfa Romeo is refusing to make the parts needed for repair.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-02
- VIN: ZARFAEBN6J7
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: After a 3 hour drive I had parked curb-side on a busy street to go into a store. I returned within 10 minutes, started the car, and as I was pulling out into traffic the car stalled after moving about 20 feet. All the dash lights came on and it would crank but not start. The car is in the right lane of a busy 3 lane road at this time. Also, after it stopped rolling it put itself in PARK, and because it has electronic transmission selection, I could not get it into Neutral to push it out of the way without the engine running. . The situation was very perilous. A wrecker came and got the car home. Once home I pulled the OBD codes myself and found P0087 Low Fuel Pressure and P008A also Low Fuel Pressure. After researching I have found that this is a known defect in these cars going on several years now. What is the delay in requiring Alfa to issue a recall of these faulty fuel pumps and fuel modules? Had this pump failure happened on an interstate at highway speeds it could have been fatal.

After 30-40 minute wait time, car started. Called dealer the following day but after multiple starts the lights/codes on dash went away. Dealer had no way to read the codes. On August 12, car started with the aforementioned lights turned on but after placing car in reverse and backing up some 10 feet it turned off. Car could not start again displaying the same symptoms as on July 2. This happened in a busy Costco parking lot blocking people from being able to get out of their parking spaces. No way to place car into Neutral to push out of way of traffic. After about 20 minutes or so, it managed to start. Drove to local Autozone to get codes read. P0087, P008A codes relate to low fuel pressure Next stop is dealership and hoping the lights do not turn off before dealer can look at. Both times this happened the car went on longer distance trips in hot weather in excess of 95 degrees Fahrenheit.

- Summary: While driving at approximately 45mph, the car was suddenly dropped into "limp mode" which caused a rapid deceleration, loss of power, and required pulling onto the shoulder as the car refused to accelerate. In addition, the check engine light illuminated, along with warnings that the start / stop system was unavailable and to service the electronic throttle. Restarting the car did not fix the condition. It's also important to note the car had approximately half a tank of gas. When serviced, the technicians reported that the P008A and P062A were present, indicating an issue with the fuel pump. The fuel pump was replaced (see attached files).
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-14
- VIN: ZARFAEAV5J7
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The fuel pump failed while driving the vehicle resulting in the car suddenly stopping while on a busy highway. We were nearly read-ended. After attempting to start the vehicle several times and witnessing several service lights go off, I called the police to have my vehicle towed and taken to the dealership. Their service department fixed the fuel pump, but charged me for the expense even though I've heard from others that this is a known issue (see [XXX] ), once resulting in an accident. I believe this should be a required recall item as it could have caused a serious accident. I would have expected this to be covered by the manufacturer. Contacted their customer care department led to an unacceptable result. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-22
- VIN: ZARFAEBN9J7
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I was driving home from Sacramento back to the bay. I pulled off the freeway to a stop light. started to drive across the intersection and the car just turned off. no warning or anything. lost all power and the dash lit up with alerts. Barely had enough speed to pull over to the Toyota dealership driveway. Car wouldn't start and it didn't sound good when it died. Best part is there is no way to put the car in neutral if it doesn't start(without a special tool and the ability to get under the car). Had it towed over the Altamont to my parents. Got there and the thing started (with a bunch of warning lights) and had it just enough to get it off the truck. Brought it to my friends dad around the corner who was able to diagnose it down to a faulty fuel pump with all his equipment and code readers. He replaced the pump and now it works fine. Seeing there's rumors of a recall against Alfa Romeo for these fuel pumps I wanted to document it. It could have been much worse if I was going freeway speeds and the car just shut off like it did. There was 0 warning or signs. Attached the price of the replacement Pump and O-Ring. Doesn't show labor costs to my friends dad.

- Summary: The Car stalled while I was driving on [XXX] on the Virginia Eastern Shore, ~4 miles north of Eastville. I had to pull into the emergency stopping line and call AAA/State Police. Check engine light was on and "Service electronic throttle control" message was on. When that happened, the car fuel gauge indicated that I still had ~60 miles. I had to call AAA and place the car on a flat bed. I also called the Virginia State police and they dispatched a car. The Officer staid with me until the AAA tow truck arrived and the car was loaded for transportation. I was able to start the car the following day, and check the fault codes. I had the following Fault codes: P008A Low pressure Fuel System - Pressure too Low. P007 - Fuel Rail/System pressure Too lox Bank 1 P00C6 - Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low - Engine Cranking Bank1. The car seems to be running normally now, although I have not driven it for a long distance. I am planning to take it to the dealer for service on a flat bed. This time, the car started fine without "Service Electronic Throttle" light, but "Service Engine" light was still on and the drive mode was stuck on N
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-27
- VIN: ZARFAEEN6J7
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The implementation of Intelligent Battery System (IBS) in the vehicle causes a constant state of undercharged battery even when the vehicle is driven daily. Due to undercharged battery, several safety components, such as heated exterior mirrors and rear window defroster do not work, which creates a safety issue. This is a widely reported problem by owners on Alfa Romeo forums. No warning lamps or messages illuminate to alert that the battery charge status is not adequate. I have recently experienced this issue, my rear window defroster stopped working and I wasn't able to see through the rear window. Recharging the battery will make the window defroster work for a while again.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-18
- VIN: ZARFAEEN8J7
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I have now learned the hard way that there is a design defect with this car. It appears that water runs down the front cowl into an area near the fresh air intake. Particularly bad if you have the car running as it goes through a car wash, or if snow accumulates on the windshield and melts. Water is then sucked into the air intake and leaks into the passenger side footwell and gets into the electronics (including the area where the body control module is kept). Many owners have reported this issue on forums. Alfa Romeo needs to correct their design and should fix every Giulia that they have produced. Loss of electrical power or control of car can cause an accident or impact safety features.

You've got a really nice design, a comfy interior, and it performs well on both the highway and curvy country roads. I've found that the GPS isn't great, so I use Apple instead.

I was comparing the Giulia to an Audi A4. I have owned 3 A4s over the last 10 years and they have been practically trouble-free. The Giulia is a delight to drive and has more unique styling than most cars on the road. It handles very well and is exciting to drive. However, during my test drives of three different Giulias over two months, each had some glitch that the salesman said just needed a software update. I was surprised that any new car on the lot would need an update. Nevertheless, I would have given it a try if the dealer had been more aggressive on price. Ultimately, given the uncertain maintenance outlook, I decided not to pay a premium for the Giulia. My Audi dealer made a great deal to keep me loyal, so I ended up purchasing my 4th A4.

I own a 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and I absolutely love it! It has been one of the best cars I have ever owned, and I have had zero trouble with anything on the car. I adore the performance, handling, braking, comfort and options. Alfa did an amazing job on this model. I have had many sports cars, but this car is miles ahead of them all, especially for the money. All it takes is one drive in this car and you too will be sold!

I purchased a 2018 Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed! Alfa really hit it out of the park with this one. The handling, braking, sound, acceleration, options, fit and finish are all amazing. It truly is the best value for your money. It delivers everything you would expect and more. I have not encountered any problems or issues so far. I have a feeling that the word will spread about how truly amazing this car is!

Great car! It handles really well and the gas mileage is excellent, as long as you don't drive too fast all the time.

Beautiful car! However, I found the rear seat to be a bit of a challenge. The opening to get your feet through is quite narrow and partially blocked by the front seat. It was a bit of a deal breaker for me, so I didn't even bother to test drive it.

After 6 months, the center screen on the dash went out. Unfortunately, it took 6 weeks to repair and I didn't receive a call from the corporation or dealer for 5 weeks. It was a frustrating experience. I eventually returned the car under the 'lemon law'. It's disappointing that Alpha didn't prioritize customer service in this situation.

Coming from a person who owned 7 M-B in 15 years maybe I’m expecting too much from an auto manufacturer who services there vehicles at Dodge/Chrysler/Ram dealers, with that said I test drove the Giulia and love the handling and the way it drove and I still like the way it drives when I have the car since I owned it for 10 month and it has spend around a month broken for different things, now the car has a loud noise in the front suspension over some big bumps and while making hard left turns and 2 different dealerships can’t fix it, and to get a loaner it has to be first pre approved by FCA then Im stuck driving either Ford Escape or Dodge Caravan, I have a 50k+ Sport Sedan and get a Caravan every time it breaks and every time I get the car back still broken and first time with a dirty interior and my headliner with grease stains, then they scratched the front bumper and to make it worst they don’t fix it, so I HATE THIS ******* car. FCA you suck.
