Common 2023 Kia Rio problems

The Kia Rio 2023 is a compact car that offers a smooth ride, impressive fuel efficiency, and a range of features at an affordable price. However, as with any vehicle, there are some common problems that owners have reported.

One issue that has been reported by Kia Rio owners is a bumpy ride. This is often caused by issues with the suspension system, which may have worn out due to the car's age or high mileage. Replacing the suspension system is a significant job, but it can help to improve the ride quality of the car.

Another common problem with the Kia Rio is an illuminated ABS light on the dashboard. This is often caused by a faulty sensor on the back wheel, which is attached to the bearing. This can be an easy fix, and replacement sensors are readily available online.

Excessive vibration is another issue that has been reported by Kia Rio owners. This can be caused by a range of factors, including worn-out tires, damaged suspension components, or issues with the car's wheels. It is important to have the car checked by a qualified mechanic to identify the root cause of the vibration and to carry out any necessary repairs.

Engine misfires are also a common problem with the Kia Rio. This can be caused by a range of factors, including faulty spark plugs, damaged spark plug wiring, or issues with the car's fuel system. It is important to have the car checked by a qualified mechanic to identify the root cause of the misfire and to carry out any necessary repairs.

Fuel leaks are a serious issue that has been reported by some Kia Rio owners. This can be caused by a cracked inlet nipple on the fuel distribution rack, which can lead to a fire if not addressed promptly. It is important to have the car checked by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible if a fuel leak is suspected.

Noisy power steering is another issue that has been reported by Kia Rio owners. This can be caused by a range of factors, including low power steering fluid levels, damaged power steering components, or issues with the car's suspension. It is important to have the car checked by a qualified mechanic to identify the root cause of the noise and to carry out any necessary repairs.

Stalling is another issue that has been reported by Kia Rio owners. This can be caused by a range of factors, including issues with the car's fuel system, electrical problems, or issues with the car's engine. It is important to have the car checked by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible if it is experiencing stalling issues.

Headlight and brake light malfunctions are also a common problem with the Kia Rio. This can be caused by a range of factors, including blown bulbs, damaged wiring, or issues with the car's electrical system. It is important to have the car checked by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible if any issues with the car's lights are suspected.

In summary, while the Kia Rio 2023 is a reliable and affordable compact car, there are some common problems that owners have reported. These include bumpy rides, illuminated ABS lights, excessive vibration, engine misfires, fuel leaks, noisy power steering, stalling, and headlight and brake light malfunctions. It is important to have the car checked by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible if any of these issues are suspected, to ensure that any necessary repairs are carried out promptly and safely.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-29
  • VIN: 3KPA24AD2PE
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: When I started my car, during the warm-up process, it dropped revs and turned off. After several tries, it turned on. While driving, when the vehicle was stopped, it began to jerk slightly. The safety risk is that the car, while I am driving, could turn off and cause an accident, in which people could be at risk, including me. I wouldn't want this to escalate because the dealer doesn't take action on the matter. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to evaluate the condition, they say that the technicians did not find anything, that the car did not emit any codes. And therefore they couldn't do anything. Note that I bought that car completely new, 0 miles, in March of last year. And in January the problem started. It is also worth noting that the car had to have a rack&pinion change in less than a year, due to a noise it made when the guide turned. All maintenance has been done with the official Auto Grupo Kia dealership on Kennedy, in Puerto Rico. I fear my safety and that of others behind the wheel, if the major fault in my car is not fixed.

STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-19
  • VIN: 3KPA24AD4PE
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS
  • Summary: Hi [XXX] I just collected my Kia Rio from service at LaFontaine. On driving in the freeway I noticed I had to make frequent adjustments to the steering when going straight and there was oversteering (minor tilt of the steering wheel result in exaggerated larger turn of the car). This does not happen when driving at lower speed outside of the freeway. I will monitor this as I am not sure if this was because I was switching between cars and/or that particular stretch of road is slippery. According to the technicians the alignment is back to spec so I will let you know if this issue persists as I drive the Rio more in the coming days. Hi Team The car veers to the left when driving with steering wheel straight. Tested in a clear non wet road. Please advise on next step. When driving on freeway there are over steering and understeering issues. Extremely dangerous. STEERING,SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-12-22
  • VIN: 3KPA24AD4PE
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Hi [XXX] My Kia Rio 2023 S vin number is [XXX] . Bought a couple months back new at Summit Place Kia Auburn Hills michigan. Once I drive off I realised the steering wheel alignment is off. The car does not drive straight when steering wheel is straight. I called my salesman and he asked me to bring it in for servicing at Summit Place. They did a wheel alignment there and found misalignment at factory condition. A few months later the same issue got worse and was noticeable again when driving. I called my salesman and he told me bringing it into service will incur a service charge as this issue is not under warranty. However, I believe this constant misalignment is from a manufacturing defect causing safety issue and you could access the servicing records that said the wheel alignment was already off at the first emergency servicing. I have also made sure all my tire pressures are topped up to the recommended pressures Kindly advise and rectify this road safety issue. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he became aware that the vehicle failed to sound a seat belt warning chime to indicate that the passenger’s side seat belt was not buckled. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-08-08
  • VIN: 3KPA25AD2PE
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I was driving normally and suddenly the transmission would not shift at all. The engine would just rev freely and the car did not accelerate at all. I was able to creep slowly to the dealership as I was near it. The dealership confirmed that the transmission had a problem a day after it was in the dealership.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-08-08
  • VIN: 3KPA25AD2PE
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I was driving around 10mph when I noticed that the transmission would not shift at all. The RPM would only increase but the car does not accelerate. Kia dealership confirmed that the transmission is dead.

STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-04-10
  • VIN: 3KPA25AD2PE
  • Components: STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: While driving at 71 mph with cruise control and the doors locked, the drivers seat door unlocked and opened. The open door warning light came on on the dashboard. It is available for inspection. It has not been inspected yet at this time. My safety was put in danger as I had to close the door as wind was entering the vehicle. It has only happened once about two weeks ago.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-03-15
  • VIN: 3KPA24AD9PE
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: I bought a new 2023 Kia Rio on Mar. 13. Within 30 hours of getting it home it was entered by thieves who wrecked the ignition system trying to steal it. The dealer did not inform me of the great danger of theft of Kia models like mine. They did not urge me to get an anti-theft device. I didn't know of this rampant Kia theft problem or would not have bought the car. Not only that, they say they cannot fix it (for perhaps 2 months). All the area Kia dealers are "overwhelmed" with Kias that have suffered theft or theft-related destruction. They can't get parts. They won't allow the car to be towed to them because they don't have space. I'm stuck with a brand new car that can't be driven and can't be fixed. I am a fixed income 80-year-old without much money. This is abuse of customers. Kia must make this good. You have posted an article about recalls of Kias and Hyundais for this problem, but I don't see a path for relief for me.

Negative 2023 Kia Rio car reviews

  1. Hank Lind 2024-08-01

The seat spacing is a bit small and it shakes and vibrates at any speed, which can be uncomfortable. Additionally, the gas mileage is not as good as expected, being off by 10-15 miles. Leg room is also limited and the A/C emits warm air on a cool setting, which can be frustrating. However, the stereo is good and the interior is easy to keep clean. Overall, I would not recommend the 2023 Kia Rio, especially for people with pain issues. I regret buying it.

Hi there! I recently purchased a 2023 Kia Rio and have had a bit of trouble with the FOB. After locking the car with it, I found that it wouldn't unlock the car just two hours later. I tried replacing the battery, but unfortunately that didn't work either. When I started the car, the horn blared and I noticed that the low tire pressure light and trunk open light were on, even though the trunk was closed. On my way home, I tried using my spare FOB, but that didn't work either. I even tried programming the FOB myself by following some suggestions on YouTube, but still no luck. Unfortunately, the overhead lights, door locks, and windows aren't working either. Do you have any thoughts on what the problem might be? I'm planning on taking it back to the dealership on Monday. Thank you for your help!

Positive 2023 Kia Rio car reviews

  1. Deonte Skiles 2024-11-04

I recently purchased a 2023 Rio 4 door in May 2023 and I must say, I got a great deal on it with my trade in. As I spent more time with the car, I was pleasantly surprised by how many features it had. I was looking for a car that was affordable and had good gas mileage, and this car exceeded my expectations. It's a joy to drive, very comfortable and zips down the road smoothly. It delivers on its promise of 41 mpg, which is fantastic. I use it as my daily driver and it has not let me down. The only thing I wish is that it came in a 2 door version, but that's just my personal preference. Overall, I highly recommend this car and give it two thumbs up!

I recently purchased a 2023 Kia Rio S in the beautiful currant red color on January 22nd, and I must say, I absolutely love it! Just like my 2022 Rio LX, which I adore, I have already put 550 miles on my new car and it's performing great. I have complete faith that it will be just as reliable as my 2022 Rio LX, which has already clocked 7,000 miles without any issues. I am thrilled that my 23 Rio has an armrest, keyless entry, and folding seats. Although it doesn't have the technology package update, I am still very satisfied with it. With 8,600 miles on the clock, it has proven to be a reliable car with an easy-to-clean interior and low maintenance costs. In fact, my 2022 Kia Rio LX has held up exceptionally well after two years and 15,000 miles, and it has been the most reliable car I've ever owned. I highly recommend checking out a Rio!

  3. Sherwood Lang 2024-10-06

I bought one and had it for a year when a tree fell on it. But I loved it so much that I went and bought another one. The car averaged around 46 miles per gallon, which made me really happy. It was also very quiet, which I appreciated. I really enjoyed my first one and I'm sure I'll enjoy my second one just as much!

  4. Alexander Pouros 2024-09-01

I'm glad to hear that you love the vehicle!

  5. Sydney Kris 2024-07-10

I paid cash for my brand new 2023 Kia Rio S at the local World Car Kia dealership in July of 2023. They offered a free lifetime drivetrain warranty, which was a great bonus. Since then, I have had no issues with the car, except for it being vandalized in October 2023. Although the thieves tried to steal it, they only damaged the steering column. The car has been very reliable and has given me no problems. The only regret I have is not purchasing a Sportage or something similar due to it sitting so low. At the time, I had no issue getting in the car, but I have developed issues with nuclear stiffness. However, the car has a surprisingly spacious interior and trunk space.
