2012 Chevrolet Impala problems
The Chevrolet Impala (/ɪmˈpælə, -ˈpɑːlə/) is a full-size car that was built by Chevrolet for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and 2000 to 2020. The Impala was Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and was among the better-selling American-made automobiles in the United States.
For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The Chevrolet Caprice was introduced as a top-line Impala Sport Sedan for model year 1965, later becoming a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-sized model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994 and 1996, the Impala was revised as a 5.7-liter V8–powered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan.
In 2000, the Impala was reintroduced again as a mainstream front-wheel drive car. In February 2014, the 2014 Impala ranked No. 1 among Affordable Large Cars in U.S. News & World Report's rankings. When the 10th generation of the Impala was introduced for the 2014 model year, the 9th generation was rebadged as the Impala Limited and sold only to fleet customers through 2016. During that time, both versions were sold in the United States and Canada. The 10th-generation Impala was also sold in the Middle East and South Korea.

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-10
- VIN: 2G1WB5E38C1
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I have trouble codes that occasionally come up even after vehicle has been serviced. The vehicle used to drive fine. Now it started miss firing. I was told the problem was coming from the engine compartment/sensors. An OBDII diagnosis detects a problem with B Camshaft Position Timing Over Advanced or System Performance Bank 2 (p0024). I fear that without the fix, the miss firing can cause an accident. The engine light is illuminated when this happens.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-08
- VIN: 2G1WG5E37C1
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,WHEELS
- Summary: The actuators in the air vents are faulty and I've had to have them repla ed multiple times now. They still continue to make clicking noise sounds and blow cold air in winter/hot air in summer. The trunk deck lid paint is bad. The clear coat has been coming off. Paint all over the car's clear coat has been coming off. There is also some spots where it's down to the metal showing rust/corrosion. Finally, and most seriously, is the car's Traction Control System. It goes off constantly and without warning! It's been doing this randomly, in all types of weather conditions, for some time now. It goes off under normal driving conditions. I barely pull out of a parking space, or make a slow turn, or pull out of a parking lot at a very slow speed and it just goes off. The really dangerous part is that it stalls the car almost to a complete stop, when I've been making a turn well before oncoming traffic, and it stalls almost causing an accident on several occasions now. Most of the incidents are on sunny days where there's no inclement weather! This system is not safe and is unreliable. I've checked many public forums, like Reddit, and there are many other Chevy Impala owners who complain of the same exact problem. Yet Chevy has issued No recalls!? The only recall I've seen close to this is for 2011 year models. Although my car is a 2012, 2011 parts likely were used. If the recall affects 2011 Impalas, then any model that used 2011 parts should be included in this recall. I cannot trust the safety of my car's Traction Control System anymore as it comes on without warning, under no circumstances where it would need to come on. People are in danger with this defect! The car cosmetically, specifically the paint job and the flimsy actuators, are also defective. I've always taken excellent care of my vehicle, regularly having maintenance done at my local Chevy Dealership. Another defect that Chevy had to fix was my fuel pump that went out for no reason! I have receipt for this.

I took it back and he said it was the throttle so he cleaned it costing me a total of approximately 350.00. I didn’t have any problems for 2 months. Now it seems to be getting worse and does it almost every time I start the car. The car idles rough and shifts hard if I drive it. Also the traction control light comes on when I turn left and makes a grinding noise. Since the issue I’ve researched and found several complaints regarding the same issue.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-09

- Summary: Passenger dim headlight keeps going out causing a unsafe issue. The plug gets hot and is damaged.A service bulletin was put out on this issue in 2014 so gm has known that this was a problem for a long time. I read several complaints on this issue and can't understand why a recall has not been issued unless gm thinks that it is safe to drive with one headlight. I know from experience that our state police department doesn't think that it is since I just got a warning because my headlight was out again.

It had to be towed back home for all the brakes being shot and I'm now having an issue with the rear left caliper having a slow leak, the rear left sway bar is also broken in half. The whole entire car has issues and the leasing company and dealership refuse to do anything to help along with not helping me get the payment down. After one thing gets fixed, another thing happens. The suspension is getting bad and has been like that since my fiance and i got the car. The dealership said everything was new and fixed. We had 2 kids in the car and their safety was put at risk as well as others that got in the car. The car is getting to be a death trap for me. the warning lights that were coming on were Service Stabilitrak, Service Brake Assist, Service Trac Control and Service Brake System. These were coming on after I had the car in the shop for the transmission issue. Those lights are now not coming on. My fiance and I were told by the dealership that the brakes were new, nothing mechanically wrong with the car and drives smoothly, this was said before we took the car for a test drive. We were there to buy a car but after we signed the papers, we were told it was a lease.

2012 Chevrolet Impala recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2012 Chevrolet Impala.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position will cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 23, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), and 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM's number for this recall is 14299.

- Summary: General Motors (GM) is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 Chevrolet Impala police vehicles because the front lower control arms may fracture. This safety recall does not include non-police Chevrolet Impala vehicles.
- Consequence: A broken control arm can result in the loss of control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace both front lower control arms, free of charge. The safety recall began on August 21, 2012. Owners may contact the Chevrolet owner center at 1-866-694-6546.

THE UPPER POWER STEERING HOSE MAY HAVE BEEN MISROUTED SO THAT IT CAN COME IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO AND/OR CONTACT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. WITH THE ENGINE ON, HEAT FROM THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER MAY MELT THE POWER STEERING HOSE.
- Consequence: POWER STEERING FLUID COULD FLOW ONTO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AND AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE COULD OCCUR.
- Remedy: GM DEALERS WILL INSPECT TO ENSURE THAT THE UPPER POWER STEERING HOSE IS ROUTED CORRECTLY AND MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438.

If you're looking for a car that requires changes every year, this might not be the one for you. However, if you're in search of a safe, comfortable, and reliable car, then this is the perfect choice. It comes with many creature comforts, such as heated seats, satellite radio, and sync. With the new engine and transmission, we're getting an impressive 30 mpg! If you're after 'bling', you might want to consider other options. But if you're looking for a strong and dependable car with decent gas mileage, and at a much lower price than other cars that the Impala is compared to, then look no further!

Hi there! I was wondering if you could help me out with a question. I have a bit of a dilemma with my tires. I noticed that my summer tires require 225/55r/17, but the winter tires that came with my car are 225/55/16. I'm a bit confused since the door panel says that the summer tires that came with the car have the same size as my current summer tires. Do you have any insight on this? I'm located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Thank you!

Your 2012 Impala sounds like an amazing car to drive! It has plenty of power, rides smoothly, and handles great. I'm glad to hear that the Onstar system provides more accurate directions than cars with onscreen navigation systems. Although it may not have a fancy display screen, the Onstar system works better and it's easier to get in and out of than smaller cars. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with the Impala!

I have a 2012 Impala LTZ that I bought in 2022 with 92,000 miles on the clock. It's unfortunate that some people have turned on Chevrolet and act as if they can't make a reliable vehicle. Personally, I love my Impala. I've owned three different generations - a '72 ragtop, a '95 SS, and now this 2012 LTZ - and all of them have served me well. The car is built with quality materials and is a joy to drive, especially on long trips. It's a sleeper that excels in comfort, handling, horsepower, and overall dependability. I encourage anyone who doubts the Impala's capabilities to take it out on the road and see for themselves. Don't let negative reviews from people who don't even own a Chevrolet discourage you. Give it a chance and you'll be pleasantly surprised by its performance on a daily basis.

The car seems to be unresponsive when taking off and hesitates to move. Even the electronics, such as fan controls, are sluggish. I took it in for a check-up, but they said it was okay. If all Impalas are like this and still receive good reviews, what does it say about buyer reviews? The car would be car of the year if it weren't for the 6-speed transmission and heating controls. Whoever passed that should be fired.
Jordon Toy 2024-07-26
The interior may not be the most luxurious, but it's not uncommon for cars in this price range. However, what sets this car apart is its reliability. I did notice some issues with the transmission, such as hesitation and gear hunting, and I think the gears may be too tall. Despite this, it's still a significant improvement over the old Impala with the 4-speed. While it may take a bit longer to get going on inclines, it really picks up speed once you hit higher speeds. Overall, it's not a bad car, but it's not the most lively either. I'm hopeful that the newer models have addressed these issues.

This car is great for long distance travel, but it may not be the best option for mountainous terrain. While the car may not handle well in those conditions, it does provide a smooth ride on flat roads. One area where Chevrolet could improve is the transmission, which can take a second or more to shift gears when accelerating. It's important to keep this in mind when passing on a two-way road in the mountains. Despite this, the car does have good pulling power once it's in gear. However, it's worth noting that the car may be overpriced compared to the Charger, which is a superior vehicle.

Although the Impala is large, unfortunately, it falls short in many other areas. The car's design is quite generic and the road handling is poor. Even with a fully loaded LTZ, it is hard not to feel disappointed and a little embarrassed while driving it. It is a popular choice for fleet vehicles, but it seems like everyone owns one, which makes it less unique. Parking this car can be a challenge, especially in tight spots. Additionally, the car's suspension is not great, so you will feel every bump in the road and experience intense body lean in corners. In my opinion, it might be best to consider other options instead of buying this car.

I purchased my car second-hand, and while it had some initial issues, I took charge and resolved them. Between 99k and 140k, I proactively replaced the thermostat, thermostat sensor, water pump, transmission cooler line, and radiator. Although the traction control started malfunctioning at around 110k, I quickly learned to turn it off before driving. Additionally, I resolved the issue with the AC/Heater fan switch by fixing the plug under the glove box. While the back window defroster line came undone, I am confident that I can fix it. Despite these minor setbacks, I still rate this car 3 stars because it has great potential. I am particularly fond of the engine and its pick-up speed.
