2015 Chevrolet Impala problems
The Chevrolet Impala (/ɪmˈpælə, -ˈpɑːlə/) is a full-size car that was built by Chevrolet for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and 2000 to 2020. The Impala was Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and was among the better-selling American-made automobiles in the United States.
For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The Chevrolet Caprice was introduced as a top-line Impala Sport Sedan for model year 1965, later becoming a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-sized model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994 and 1996, the Impala was revised as a 5.7-liter V8–powered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan.
In 2000, the Impala was reintroduced again as a mainstream front-wheel drive car. In February 2014, the 2014 Impala ranked No. 1 among Affordable Large Cars in U.S. News & World Report's rankings. When the 10th generation of the Impala was introduced for the 2014 model year, the 9th generation was rebadged as the Impala Limited and sold only to fleet customers through 2016. During that time, both versions were sold in the United States and Canada. The 10th-generation Impala was also sold in the Middle East and South Korea.

Common 2015 Chevrolet Impala problems
The Chevrolet Impala, particularly the 2015 model, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues primarily revolve around transmission problems, engine issues, and electrical problems.
- Engine Issues: Some components, particularly the intake manifold gasket and power steering hose, may leak at higher mileage. A failed intake manifold gasket could result in an oil leak, while a faulty power steering hose could leak at around 118,000 miles. Additionally, some owners have reported a check engine light due to a gas cap issue.
- Electrical Problems: Passlock problems have been reported in some units of the 2002 Impala, causing issues such as getting locked out of the vehicle, check engine and security lights going on and off, and difficulty starting the vehicle. These problems can be complicated, and it's best to have a professional diagnose the issue.
While these problems can be concerning, it's important to note that the Chevy Impala has the potential to last, as evidenced by its second-place ranking in iSeeCars' longest-lasting cars study, with a potential lifespan of around 230,343 miles. Proper care and maintenance can help ensure a longer lifespan for the Impala.
In summary, the 2015 Chevrolet Impala has common problems related to transmission, engine, and electrical issues. However, with proper care and maintenance, these problems can be mitigated, and the Impala can still provide a reliable driving experience.

The component has not been inspected. There was a warning that popped up stating “service side detection system” that appeared randomly on my drive home the other day. I had not hit anything or done anything to the car that might have caused this.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-09
- VIN: 2G1125S36F9
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: About two years ago I parked in front of a business in Sun City West Arizona. When i came out to leave, my steering wheel would hardly turn. I went home and when I came back with a neighbor, the steering wheel was working as it should. About three weeks ago, I was turning onto a major street in Sun City West, Arizona. I got a notice on the info screen that the power steering was disabled. I had to force the steering just to get around the corner. I drove to a nearby parking lot. The steering took a tremendous amount of effort to turn the steering wheel. I almost hit a semi truck trying to go around a corner. It was very dangerous. After parking and leaving it for a short while, steering returned to normal. On a major highway a serious accident could have happened. I read online that in 2015 General Motors recalled roughly 1.2 million model year 2015 trucks and SUVs globally for a problem with the electric power steering system. GM previously recalled nearly 700,000 model year 2014 pickups for the same problem. My car with the electric power steering problem is a 2015 Chevrolet Impala. I am afraid to drive the car now. It could happen anytime again and cause a wreck.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-23
- VIN: 1G1165S34FU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: The Side Detection System failed. Both rare modules are shorted. The defective module drain out the battery, causing engine start failure. And the defective module may cause fire. I have one side of the modules repaired in three years ago. Now both sides are failed. I had two jump start in the recent month. Every time I start the engine, warning for service of Side Detection System shows up.
LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-21
- VIN: 2G1165S30F9
- Components: LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: In April 2019, the side detection module was replaced under warranty, at 21,500 miles. The same ‘issues’ are reappearing, where a warning is illuminated on the side mirror when no cars are present. If the dealer/ mfr replaced the original modules and wiring harness with the same items, this would only delay a reoccurrence. I called Chevy Cust. Sec for assistance, and they said their ‘recall’ program expired in 2019. The car currently has just 47,000 miles and the the modules should not have failed a second time. There is obviously a design flaw, allowing water penetration, and Chevy did nothing to prevent it.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-12
- VIN: 2G1125S31F9
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The sunroof sunshade is the specific component that has malfunctioned. It is readily visible and accessible for inspection upon request. A mechanic or technician can visually inspect the sunshade to assess the extent of the damage. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Excessive sunlight in the car causes discomfort or visibility issues to the driver and passengers. Glare from the sun impairs vision causing distraction, and compromising safety, especially during bright and sunny days making it challenging to see the road, traffic signals, and other vehicles clearly. Excessive heat makes the interior uncomfortable and hot. Sunburn. Reduced visibility and distraction can increase the likelihood of accidents affecting the safety of not only the occupants of the car with the torn sunshade but also other drivers and pedestrians on the road. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? .Yes 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? Routine inspections are not conducted by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives for issues like a torn sunshade. However, an insurance representative might assess the damage if I file a claim related to the sunshade issue. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Warning lamps or messages related to the sunroof sunshade are not present in most vehicles.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-02-01
- VIN: 2G1125S39F9
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The stabilitrak notification appeared on my dashboard while driving on the highway, which immediately caused the car to slow down. It was a hazard as I had to maneuver over 4 lanes on a highway at high speed to move to safety. This issue has occurred three times and is currently on the fourth as the vehicle is at the Chevrolet dealer. It is going on three weeks on my fourth return in 6 months with no current feedback. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer each time for this exact issue which has occurred every 6 months after the initial repair, my vehicle was there for approximately three months as they stated I needed to replace the transmission. Six months from that date the issue occurred again and it was replaced as it was under warrant. The third time I had to pay for the repair as the dealer stated some sensors needed to be replaced. Now six months later again, it is at the dealer and I am waiting for the response. Each time this issue occurred, I was traveling at high speeds which almost resulted in accidents that I somehow managed to avoid. There were no other warning signs that this issue was going to occur. It just happens spontaneously. I have seen several complaints about this issue with Chevrolet made by mother customers going back as far as 2012 to no resolution but thousands of dollars spent with no real solution/answers.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-27
- VIN: 2G1165S34F9
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Upon opening the sunroof while driving, the sunshade track bunched up and got stuck while opening. I was able to unbunch the track the get the sunshade to close, however, the fabric ripped away from the track on both sides. When the sunroof is opened, the fabric falls down into the car and completely blocks the view out of the back window. I tired putting the fabric up in the space it should roll into, but it will not stay and falls down while driving. I stopped using the sunroof for this reason. Now the fabric hangs down into the car. This happened almost a year ago. The fabric has continued to hang down further and further into the car. It is beginning to fall into the line of vision of the rear window. I used safety pins to hold it up, but it continues to hang down further. I have decided to get it fixed for this reason. It will cost almost $800 to have it repaired. This is clearly a safety hazard. I have read several forums on other owners with the same safety issue. A service repair bulletin has been issued for this problem, but it should be a safety recall.

They, the dealership, cost the replacement of the module at $980.00 including labor. To fix an issue they have known about for years
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-31
- VIN: 2G1165S30F9
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: My son (a brand new driver) was driving to school with me in the passenger seat on surface streets at approximately 45 mph at 0600 and an error message came on the console about “Service Power Steering - Drive With Care” or something akin to that and my son was unable to steer the car. He was able to slightly steer it into a turn lane (right hand turn into a neighborhood) and almost struck an oncoming car. He was able to stop and switch seats with me. Thankfully traffic was light enough and no one was behind us for me to back up about 10 feet to enable me to muscle the car into the neighborhood side street to pull over. I immediately turned the car off, waited ~30 seconds and restarted the engine…still couldn’t drive and error message came up again. Waited another 5-10 minutes and turned the ignition and was able to turn the wheel with ease, so I drove the car the ~5 miles home with no issue, but immediately called a service repair shop; they told me that this was a known issue. (WHAT THE WHAT?!?! Losing the ability to steer while careening down the road is a FLIPPING KNOWN ISSUE AND THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SAFETY RECALL?!? WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AND KILLED OTHERS!). I immediately took it to the repair shop as I refused to drive it as it was unnecessarily unsafe! The repair was quoted as $5,200 (brand new GM part replacement) or $3,800 (reconditioned part - which ironically had a better warranty on it than the genuine GM part!)…I needed my car so I authorized the repair. Not happy! (A side note and a huge slap in the face is that my father did and my husband actually still works for GM…I’ve seen all the near-misses reported here and NO ONE KNEW THIS WAS AN ISSUE UNTIL DRIVING AND THE ABILITY TO STEER WAS LOST! Thank goodness we were on a surface street and not interstate! My novice driver could have EASILY been killed if he was in a different driving situation. GM NEEDS TO ORDER A RECALL!!

2015 Chevrolet Impala recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2015 Chevrolet Impala.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Impala vehicles manufactured April 15, 2013, to June 19, 2015, equipped with front vented-heated passenger seats. Accordingly, the Automatic Occupant Sensing (AOS) system may fail to suppress the front passenger air bag if a child seat is in the front passenger seat. These vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
- Consequence: If the front passenger air bag deploys with a child seat in the front passenger seat, it increases the risk of injury to the child.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will correct the calibration-learning error by preconditioning the empty seat, and also resetting the ECU to a seat zero-value, free of charge. The recall began on August 25, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 15400.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: PARKING BRAKE
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Cadillac XTS vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to August 22, 2014, and 2014-2015 Chevrolet Impala vehicles manufactured November 5, 2012, to September 2, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the electronic parking brake piston actuation arm may not fully retract causing the brake pads to stay partially engaged.
- Consequence: Brake pads that remain partially engaged with the rotors may cause excessive brake heat that may result in a fire.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the electronic parking brake software, free of charge. The recall began on October 28, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14471.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Impala vehicles manufactured May 7, 2014, to July 28, 2014. In the event of an accident, the center storage console may not stay latched. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 201, "Occupant Protection In Interior Impact."
- Consequence: The storage compartment door may not remain closed in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of occupant injury.
- Remedy: Parts to remedy this condition are not currently available. GM will send owners an interim notification in early October 2014, and will send a second letter when parts are available. At that time dealers will inspect, and if necessary, replace the console storage compartment door inertia latch, free of charge. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 14476.

Looking for a car that could go up to 250K, I stumbled upon the Impala and I think I've found what I was looking for. On the highway, the mileage meets and exceeds the EPA estimates, and in town, we get the expected mpg. The 20-inch wheels that came with the car can be a bit harsh on sharp bumps, but they are quiet enough otherwise. Acceleration when passing is a treat after driving the Cruze, and the creature comforts, legroom, and general passenger space are reminiscent of bigger Impalas of yesteryear. I continue to be impressed with this car. After putting over 103K miles on the clock, some expensive routine maintenance is due, but I still think this Impala is a great vehicle. With 113,000 miles on it, the Impala has continued to impress. After getting new tires, front brakes, and spark plugs at 126,000 miles, the Impala has been trouble-free aside from these expected maintenance items.

Approaching 78,000 miles and never had any issues! This car is the LTZ model with the V6. On my last trip to Florida, I put on 4,000 miles and averaged an impressive 27.3 MPG. It comfortably seats 5 passengers with spacious rear seating and a large trunk. My best gas mileage on a one-way trip of 140 miles was an amazing 30.2 MPG. On average, I get around 20 MPG with mixed highway/city driving.
-
The car is not only visually appealing, but it's also a joy to drive and extremely comfortable.
-
Congratulations on your new car! I'm glad to hear that you found a great fit with the Chevy Impala LTZ. It sounds like it has all the features you were looking for, including plenty of leg room and a powerful 3.6 L 6 cylinder engine. The dark gray exterior and interior sound very stylish, and the factory tinted windows will definitely come in handy during the summer. It's great to hear that you're already thinking about ways to improve the car's performance, and I'm sure your experiment with the electric blower will be interesting. Enjoy your new ride! I was excited to test-drive this car after reading a recent issue of Consumer Reports that praised its quietness and smooth ride. While I did find the car to be quiet, I personally did not think the ride was as smooth as advertised. The car handled sharp bumps poorly, causing a flimsy shuddering sound in the passenger compartment. However, the car's 4-cylinder engine was impressively powerful and smooth, and I never felt the need for a V6. The fuel economy was decent, averaging around 25 mpg, but did drop when I needed to pass someone. The handling was great, with no noticeable sway or lean, and the suspension performed well on curvy roads. The seating was comfortable and supportive, especially with the power-adjustments and variable lumbar support. As a tall person, I found the entry and egress to be vastly superior to the late model Passat I tried. Overall, I enjoyed my time with the Impala and would recommend it to others. However, I found that my head would bump into the ceiling unless I ducked or slouched. Although the driver's outward visibility was average, the rear-view camera display proved to be an essential tool in avoiding collisions with other parked cars, as the mirrors had a limited field of view. I particularly liked the hidden storage compartment behind the video display - a very clever feature. The cloth upholstery, while monochromatic, was comfortable to sit on in both cold and warm weather. In summary, I found the Impala to be a neutral and serene drive, vastly improved from previous models. I consider it to be the best performing value among its peers [Chrysler 300, VW Passat, Toyota Avalon] and would recommend it with only minor reservations. -Interior= *** [two demerits for mediocre build quality, squeaks and rattles all over, on rough roads with broken pavement]-Exterior styling= ** [not my favorite, blocky, like a streamlined brick, not graceful like an Impala should be]-Performance= **** [decent acceleration for a 4 cylinder engine, braking is good enough, handling unflappably stable over various road surfaces, a bit of NVH on sharp bumps, noise over coarse road surfaces mostly unsuppressed, average condition road surface noise well suppressed]-Comfort/Quality= *** [aforementioned slapdash build quality on interior, squeaks and rattles over coarse/broken roads, sharp bumps crashed through. The driver's seat was comfortable with an adequate range of adjustment, and the lumbar adjustment was well-sited with variable pressure. However, the slope of the exterior styling at the back seat head area cuts into rear seat headroom for taller passengers.

I had my 2015 Impala for 8 months when the electronic parking system warning light came on. The dealer said it just needed a software upgrade. Two years later, the same thing happened again. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the issue and reset the instrument warning light. Unfortunately, two weeks later, the battery went dead after every system warning light came on the instrument panel. There was no warning light regarding the charging system, nor was there a 'Battery saver mode active' message. The dealer replaced the battery and apologized for not catching the issue earlier. When I asked why none of the warning lights came on, they explained that this is how the car is designed. As a first-time GM car owner, I was disappointed with my experience. However, I appreciate the dealer's efforts to resolve the issue.

Be careful, the valves in these cars can be problematic and if they fail, it may cause damage to your engine. Unfortunately, Chevrolet may not cover the cost of repairs.

My 2015 LTZ, which I bought brand new from the dealership, has unfortunately experienced a number of issues since purchase. These include problems with the fuel pump, moon roof electric shade, front and rear coil spring insulators, shock absorber replacements, front and rear hub bearing, all 4 tires within 5000 miles of each other, and the timing cover gasket, which cost $2,100 to repair. Despite these setbacks, I have invested approximately $20K in repairs to keep my car running smoothly. While I have been disappointed by these issues, I remain confident in my ability to maintain and care for my vehicle. Moving forward, I will continue to prioritize regular maintenance and upkeep to ensure the longevity of my car.

I own a 2005 Impala that I absolutely love. All I wanted was a new car, but unfortunately, this 2015 model is not very appealing, both on the outside and inside. After struggling with it for a while, it finally stopped working altogether. It was frustrating to have to pull over and consult the manual just to figure out how to turn on the windshield wipers. Overall, it's been a disappointing experience.

I am disappointed to report that the paint on the front end of my 2015 Chevrolet Impala has started to flake off after only four months of ownership. Despite the car being quite expensive, I have not received the level of customer service I was hoping for from GM. Initially, they blamed me for the issue, but it quickly became clear that it was a defect in the paint. Unfortunately, the problem has grown to a significant size and has become a source of embarrassment for me. I have even been made fun of by friends and family. While I understand that every car can have issues, I expected better from the flagship sedan of Chevrolet. It is only now that the dealership is willing to do something about it, but I am still disappointed in GM's response. I have had a few breakdowns since purchasing the car, which has left me stranded twice. I had hoped that GM had improved since their bankruptcy, but my experience has not been positive. I hope that they will take steps to improve their customer service in the future. Thank you for listening to my concerns.
