Jeep Renegade 2022 problems
The Jeep Renegade is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Stellantis under their Jeep marque. It was first shown to the public in March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show and production started in late August of that year. The Renegade was the smallest vehicle currently marketed by Jeep, until the arrival of the Avenger. It slots between the Avenger and the Compass. It is based on the FCA Small Wide 4×4 platform which is also shared with other FCA models, including from Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands.
The Renegade came standard with front-wheel drive, with optional four-wheel drive systems Active Drive I and Active Drive Low, both of which are paired with Jeep's Selec-Terrain System.
Overview
The Renegade is the first Jeep product to be produced exclusively outside of North America and has been sold in the North American, European, Brazilian, South African, Australian, Japanese and Chinese markets. The vehicle is built in Melfi, Italy with the designation BU/520, alongside the related Fiat 500X; Goiana, Brazil with the designation B1 (alongside Jeep Compass and Fiat Toro); and in Guangzhou, China codenamed BQ.
Standard Renegade models come with front-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive available on Sport, Latitude and Limited trims. In the US, the lineup consists of Sport, Latitude and Limited trims, all of which come with a choice of front- and four-wheel drive, as well as the Trailhawk trim, which is 4WD only.
The Renegade has an available My Sky dual-panel removable roof. The My Sky can be either retracted like a standard sunroof or removed completely for a more open-air experience, similar to that of the Jeep Wrangler.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-16
- VIN: ZACNJDC19NP
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: When attempting to accelerate the vehicle hesitates for several seconds and does not move then lurches forward. It leaves me with no power in the middle of the road or when crossing a highway. It is intermittent but very dangerous. It happens from a stand still and while slowing down and then accelerating. This is a common issue in many Jeep Renegade forums and aftermarket parts are readily available to fix this issue. Why can't Jeep? The aftermarket part was recommended by multiple Jeep Renegade owners as it does adust the tuning and gas pedal response. Why can't Jeep fix this wide spread serious safety issue? How many accidents have happened because of this extreme power turbo lag? The lag is extreme. Far beyond the typical turbo lag. It happens daily.
AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-16
- VIN: ZACNJDD11NP
- Components: AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: On January 8, 2024, while increasing my speed from 25mph to 35mph, my parking brake automatically engaged and brought my car to a stop in the middle of the road. I quickly turned the car off and back on, and because there were no warning lights or obvious issues, continued to drive. After I increased my speed above 35mph, 3 warning lights were on the dash: Service airbag system, service auto park brake, and start/stop unavailable. I took my vehicle to a local dealership where they diagnosed the issue as a faulty seatbelt sensor. They replaced the seatbelt buckle on January 9, 2024. On April 16, 2024, these issues began to occur again. However, this time, the car did not register that my seatbelt was fastened and the warning light to put on my seatbelt came on along with the service airbag system, service auto park brake, and start/stop unavailable warning lights. On April 18, 2024, as I was driving up an incline, the traction control warning light came on intermittently, along with the sound system unavailable light. These issues did not contribute to a crash or injury, but the car is under a year old and has had multiple issues that cannot easily be diagnosed. My car is currently at a local dealership being inspected.
POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-18
- VIN: ZACNJDB18NP
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: My 2022 Jeep Renegade VIN TAG: [XXX] has had another issue pop up, I’m still having the vehicle shutdown and other issues. But recently I lost my headlights on now 3 different occasions starting on [XXX]. Now about a week ago I lost both front Daytime Running Lights both Front Marker Lights and both Front Signal Lights ALL AT THE SAME TIME. I was told by BAY Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram in Panama City, FL it happens but when I called my dealership back in Connecticut Papa’s Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram they told me I might lose a light or 2 but now ALL 6 at the Same Time and Definitely NOT LED’s with these extremely low hours on it. They thought it might be a voltage surge or something like that, I was told to take it into them and have a diagnostic done and also have the lights changed under warranty because LED lights should last at least 15,000hrs not 500hrs - 1000hrs or around that. If it was lightbulbs and not LEDs, I could understand but LEDs are a minimum 15,000 hours and we’re way under that. I want someone to step in and get this dealt with before I call an attorney. I’m driving around right now with NO Front Daytime Running Lights both Front Marker Lights and both Front Signal Lights out, I was stopped by a police officer today and told I should have it recalled just for the signal lights alone because that’s a safety issue. Oncoming vehicles cannot see which direction I’m turning because I have no signal lights, we need to get this addressed yesterday. Also I would’ve paid for one light but I’m not gonna pay for 6 because this now I know is a serious issue with my vehicle and to have all 6 go out at the same time be serious we know unless you have a surge 6 won’t happen. POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-21
- VIN: ZACNJDE19NP
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The 2022 Jeep Renegade was purchased brand new in April of 2023. Since it was purchased there is a 2-4 second delay when accelerating from a complete stop. I live in a small mountain town in Colorado where I have to pull out into traffic all the time. I have nearly been hit by other vehicles over a dozen times trying to pull into traffic. I have brought this issue to the car dealership and they said there is nothing they can do because the turbo needs those few seconds to charge before accelerating.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-28
- VIN: ZACNJDB18NP
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and shut down. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-22
- VIN: ZACNJDC1XNP
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS
- Summary: I have taken the car in since first oil change with an electrical issue. It still has not been resolved. The abs light, air bag, start stop and seat belt lights and sounds would go off. Potentially causing a whole host of issues. There is still no fix and this will be for fourth time I have taken it the dealer.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-20
- VIN: ZACNJDE15NP
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: When driving at any speed, vehicle (2022 Jeep Renegade Altitude with 10,000 miles); intermittently jerks about 4-5" to the left or right on the road-like someone is jerking the steering wheel . Complained to dealer and they checked it over and said the vehicle is ok- Its NOT ok- HELP! HAPENDS ALL THE TIME!
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-24
- VIN: ZACNJDA13NP
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Sensors randomly come on dash such as seatbelt that beeps even with the seatbelt on. Or the parking break light in which there has been a couple cases where it made the car turn off while rolling and engages parking break all on its on. It is ridiculous something needs to happen to get this issue fixed
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-28
- VIN: ZACNJDB18NP
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: First NO WARNINGS Signs of Any Kind were shown at time of 1st & 3rd issues, 1st under hard acceleration or deceleration and sometimes while in turns under acceleration & deceleration you get a Large Bang from underneath the vehicle and it’s not only the sound but feels like the vehicle gets hit but it’s not. 2nd thing I observed dashboard lights suddenly starting to blink and these included warnings for seatbelts, forward collision warning but nothing was there, airbags, 4wheel drive lights and issues, and the engine trouble lights on dashboard along with it turning off and not restarting. 3rd thing that has happened 3 times 2 times on regular roads and once entering the highway while at the top of the Rte-15 South Ramp in CT after driving the vehicle at about 60mph-65mph the vehicle shuts down like when stopped at a light but your now entering a highway. When I told my dealership they couldn’t find the issue so I asked while I was here in Florida and I was told Chrysler Corporation knows of this 2nd & 3rd Issue but isn’t doing a Recall on this issue and I was told it’s happening to quite a few models not just the Jeep Renegade but others. Now I don’t drive it long distances only locally as I don’t want to get killed by this vehicle. All 3 issues scare me greatly, First the loud bang, Second All the WARNING LIGHTS and then the vehicle shutting down for no reasons and Not Restarting also Not allowing you to Bypass the Auto Start/Stop function like it’s Designed. Last thing I had a Warning Light on took it to Bay Jeep in Panama City, FL showed the lady in the Service Lane and she Plugged it in and NO TROUBLE CODES WERE STORED so she said to come here file with you but to Also call Chrysler to ask for a VEHICLE BUY BACK because of the SERIOUS NATURE and also that it’s under 10k miles. 4/28/2023 at 2:05PM CDT
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-21
- VIN: 3C4NJDDB6KT
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: When traveling down the road immediately after starting the Jeep the engine coolant hot indicator light comes on and the car engine shuts down and the steering wheel locks. The engine coolant is not hot since the car was just started. To fix issue at that moment I had to bring car to a complete stop in the middle of the road ( very dangerous ) and wait a few seconds and then try to restart the car. This problem has happened several times over the past two years. The dealership has examined the car and can not find any answers on how to fix the problem. I found there are thousands of other owner complaints on line about this issue with the Jeep Compass model. I want to add my complaint to the pile of complaints already registered with Chrysler Jeep. This issue could get someone killed on a highway?
POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-19
- VIN: ZACNJDB18NP
- Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: Jeep Renegade Issues: First NO WARNINGS Signs of Any Kind were shown at time of both issues, 1st under hard acceleration or deceleration and sometimes while in turns under acceleration & deceleration you get a Large Bang from underneath the vehicle and it’s not only the sound but feels like the vehicle gets hit but it’s not. 2nd thing that has happened 3 times 2 times on regular roads and once entering the highway while at the top of the Rte-15 South Ramp after driving the vehicle at about 60mph-65mph the vehicle shuts down like when stopped at a light but your now entering a highway. When I told my dealership they couldn’t find either issue so I asked while I was here in Florida and I was told Chrysler Corporation know of this 2nd Issue but isn’t doing a Recall on this issue and I was told it’s happening to quite a few models not just the Jeep Renegade but others. Now I don’t drive it only locally as I don’t want to get killed by this vehicle. Both issues scare me greatly, First the loud bang and Second the vehicle shutting down for no reason.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-08
- VIN: ZACNJDB17NP
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Part number 68536883AA has failed and forward collision system is inop. 1st event was November in Arkansas Dealer told my wife to wash the vehicle and it would clear the fault. It reset itself before she washed it. Although, washing has nothing to do with the problem. it failed again and brought it to the dealer in Flagler beach FL. the part was ordered 12/1/2022 on backorder since. By speaking with another dealer there are 155 backordered in the US. I have reached out to Jeep and they have not returned my call. I did receive an email saying they are working on it.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-09
- VIN: ZACNJDB14NP
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: First, this vehicle is burning 1 quart of oil every 750 miles. Being unaware, when driving, engine shudder and tried to fail, making me unable to accelerate through an intersection. When trying to accelerate, the vehicles RPMs extend above 4 if I don’t accelerate at an extremely slow pace. I can not get up to speed quickly when going on to a freeway. The vehicle collision warning continues to malfunction. Had it fixed again recently. Gas is burning faster than it should be because of the high RPMs and engine working so hard. I have 2 children, and got this vehicle brand new so I’d have reliable transportation. After the first month, I no longer felt safe driving it. Dealership keeps telling me everything is normal. These are not normal issues for a car. It’s a lemon.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-03
- VIN: ZACNJDE1XNP
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I purchased the vehicle at 15 miles and about 2 months after purchase while driving, the front collision warning light came on and there was no reason why the light came on. I took it to the draler and was told it will take some time to find out the problems, needed to leave my car and would not providr a loaner or rental. 6 days go, the seatbelt sign, emergency brake, parking break, airbag, and automatic break light all turn on when I start the vehicle. However yesterday as I was driving, all the lights turned on. The seatbelt sound also turns on even though I am wearing my seatbelt. Im afraid the brakes will stop working or the airbag will detonate. I pulled over to turn off the car and start it with hopes the lights turn off. Sometimes it works and others it does not.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-10
- VIN: Zacnjdd17np
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: My vehicle, Jeep Renegade only has 5,526 miles on it and I purchased it brand new on June 11th 2022. On Monday, October 10th 2022 at approximately 1325 hours, I was driving the vehicle in the left lane on the Grand Central Parkway, a major highway in NYC, when the vehicle shut down on its own in moderate traffic. Every instrument light (Dummy Light) went on however the car did not turn off. I tried to turn the vehicle off but it wouldn’t! I feared for my life as other cars barely avoided me!! I waited in the left lane for 3-5 minutes then the vehicle was able to slowly move but without power steering and all the instrument lights still on. I eventually got the vehicle off the highway to safety! The vehicle was towed to Town and Country Jeep in Levittown NY where I purchased the vehicle. The Service Department has yet to tell me what’s wrong with the car but when I asked if I was the only Renegade owner that experienced this major problem, they stated NO! This appears to be a major issue i wanted to bring to your attention!

The contact was able to google information on manually overriding the failure in the settings. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The failure mileage was 3,492. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired and then shipped to another dealer. Despite that repair, the vehicle experienced electronic failure. Chrysler offered the contact a buy-back and the vehicle remains unrepaired.

I'm glad to hear that you've had no problems with your car, even after driving 7000 miles! It's great that you were able to find a car that fits perfectly in your old model T garage from 1920. I completely understand not wanting to leave your cars outside, so it's wonderful that this car fits so well. Thanks for sharing your positive experience! 👍

I've only had the Renegade Limited High Altitude subtrim for 2 weeks, but I haven't hit my head once yet. It's small on the outside, but fairly large on the inside. I'm 6'1 and 210 lbs, and I fit very nicely. It's quite comfy, and the panoramic sunroof is a nice touch.
-
Best vehicle I've purchased at an excellent price.

I'm so glad I chose the Renegade! It rides really well and I'm getting great gas mileage with the new 4 cylinder turbo. Thank you so much, Jeep! I also love that it was made in Italy!

Although I have owned several Jeeps in the past and enjoyed them, my experience with the 2020 Renegade Latitude has been disappointing. Despite having a combined gas mileage of 23, the 12-gallon gas tank is inadequate, requiring me to refuel three times a week. Additionally, the ride quality is comparable to that of an 18-wheel truck.
Cary Abshire 2024-09-14
The quality of the product is subpar as the heated seats ceased functioning within a year.

My girlfriend just bought a 2020 Jeep Altitude after her Rogue was totaled when a 15-year-old in a 4x4 ran a stop sign. She didn't ask me for any help, which was a mistake, but she shopped around a little and got it for the asking price. In my opinion, there are far better values for the money and the vehicle class. The ride is harsh, and the acceleration is awful. There are very few amenities compared to the Rogue, and I'm not a fan of Nissan either, but she likes it and she's paying for it. There's a difference between 'cheap' and 'inexpensive', and this Jeep is inexpensive. The Rogue was better built, rode better, had more features, and was more efficient. However, she's happy with her purchase, and that's what matters. I hope she enjoys her new car!

The push button start ceases to function at approximately 17,000 miles.

I am currently using this vehicle while my minivan is being serviced. Although I have had some issues with the UConnect user interface, I have found that the Jeep Renegade is generally a reliable car. However, I have noticed that the car's steering assistance system can be a bit overbearing at times, especially when I am trying to give cyclists a wide berth. While I understand that the car is trying to keep me within the lines, I believe that it could benefit from trusting the driver more. Additionally, the acceleration from a stop is not as quick as I would like it to be, which caused me some trouble when I needed to merge into traffic quickly. Overall, while I have had some issues with the car, I believe that it is a decent vehicle for everyday use.
