The Chevrolet Cruze is a compact car that has been produced by General Motors since 2008. It was designated as a globally developed, designed, and manufactured four-door compact sedan, complemented by a five-door hatchback body variant from 2011, and a station wagon in 2012. During its introduction, the Cruze replaces several compact models, including the Chevrolet Optra which was sold internationally under various names, the Chevrolet Cobalt sold exclusively in North America, and the Australasian-market Holden Astra.
The Cruze was released in 2008 for the South Korean market as the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere until the phasing out of the Daewoo brand in 2011, when it was renamed to Chevrolet Cruze. In Australasia, the model was sold between 2009 and 2016 as the Holden Cruze. In 2016, the Cruze sedan was restyled and renamed for the Australasian market as the Holden Astra Sedan, as a sedan complement to the Holden Astra family.
Due to the market shift towards SUVs and decreasing sales, the Cruze has been gradually phased out. Production of the Cruze in South Korea ended in 2018 as part of restructuring of GM Korea, which in turn ceased supply of the Holden Astra Sedan to Australasia. In the United States and Mexico, production ended in 2019, while production in China ended in 2020. Production continued in Argentina until 2023. It was replaced by the Monza in China, which is known as the Cavalier in Mexico.
Previously, the nameplate has been used for a version of a subcompact hatchback car produced under a joint venture with Suzuki from 2001 to 2007, and was based on the Suzuki Ignis.

Vehicle was towed to the GM dealer in Pirmasens, was told that the brake booster failed, the cam, timing chain, and brake booster needs to be replaced and that my car was not under any recall yet research on the internet shows that others had te same problem with the Cruze.

- Summary: Based off my mechanic's assessment and that of a Chevrolet dealership, one of the cylinders in my Chevy Cruze is no longer firing. The dealership believes at least one of the pistons needs to be replaced. The car is available for inspection. The car is unreliable to drive, as I drove up a freeway incline it slowed to a dangerously low speed for freeway driving. The dealership has confirmed they believe it is an issue with the piston but will not confirm without charging $2800 to dismantle the car and are not able to guarantee they will be able to fix the issue. Diagnostics were run on the car at Putnam Chevrolet in Burlingame CA. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to a major issue with the cars functionality. The issue first appeared June 15, 2023 without any warning. The engine light came on and the car was not functioning properly, plus a notification to "service Stabilitrek". I have found mention of the same problem on consumer forums. Cracked pistons are a KNOWN issue on this make and model but there are no recalls and the car is just outside of the warranty.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 202a, "Head Restraints."
- Consequence: In a crash, the seat-backs for the front seats may break, increasing the risk of injury to the occupants.

Have you considered the Hatchback Premier? It offers a quieter ride than the Civic and is more comfortable than the Mazda 3. While the Ford Focus needs a lot of improvement to even be in the same class as the Cruze, the Cruze is a strong contender for the money. Additionally, the mileage savings make it a clear winner.

This car was made for today. It shines in the city, country, and on the highway. The 'Auto Stop' feature, which shuts off the car at stops to conserve gas, was a little disconcerting at first. However, when you see your city gas mileage, you don't mind. On those long, lonesome country roads with a speed limit of 60 MPH, you can get nearly 40 miles per gallon. Even with all this fuel economy, this car is quick and nimble at freeway speeds. After coming from the city and taking it easy on a 50-mile trip to visit my in-laws in the country, I got 38 miles to the gallon (without AC on) on my way to their home. Coming home, we were running a little late, and in freeway city traffic, my Cruze was so nimble and quick darting around the clustered traffic at freeway speeds, it was almost incredible. My car has remote and push-button start, and I can unlock the doors by touching the handles. After getting to work and waiting in my Cruze to punch-in for my shift, I switch the car off and the radio and electric windows still operate until I exit the vehicle, which is a great feature. I read one review where the person was bemoaning the 'Auto Stop' feature while trying to pull into traffic quickly. I found that if you anticipate a quick move coming, you merely have to be proactive and step on the accelerator a couple of seconds before going to take it out of the 'Auto Stop' mode. This hasn't been an issue for me, even though I live in the city. With the RS package and the addition of my fog lights to the front grill, this car is a looker. Even though the Cruze Hatchback isn't rated quite as high as some of the other Hatchbacks, I beg to differ. This car is all things to most people and a great value. Did I say it corners like butter? This car is a sleeper. After 6 months, I'm still really enjoying my Chevy Cruze Hatchback. I'll put my Cruze against any of the other Hatchbacks in appearance and luxuries. With my factory push-button start, keyless entry, and remote start, I'm really enjoying my car this winter. It only takes 10 minutes to warm up!Before punching out at my job in Michigan, I use the remote start feature to deice my windows, warm the engine, and heat the seats. It's a little slice of heaven in a very unkind world. I also love the feature that allows me to control the electrics on my car, such as the windows and wipers, for 10 minutes after stopping the engine. Even after 10 minutes, I can still listen to the radio until I go in to punch in. Because of the winters and remote start, gas mileage has suffered, but it's a price I'm willing to pay to make my life so much easier during the harsh Michigan winter. The car is also quick with its little turbocharged engine. It's definitely worth considering if you're shopping for a car. And one more thing, the legroom in the back seat is great for a car of this size, particularly in comparison with almost every other hatchback. My Cruz has been a great addition to our family.

I bought my Cruze LT used at a Honda dealer with only 11,800 miles on it. The price was what initially caught my attention, as it was under $13,000 before the negotiation process. I absolutely love this car! It runs whisper quiet, has great pick up for a small 4 cylinder engine, and I average an impressive 38 miles per gallon driving both on the highway and in the city. I highly recommend purchasing the gen 2 Cruze, 2017 or newer, with the 1.4L turbo engine. In my experience, this drive train has provided 181k trouble-free miles. If your budget allows, I suggest opting for the premier trim as it offers many high-end options at an affordable price. I cannot think of any negative comments to make about this car. It is an excellent choice for those seeking a reliable vehicle that returns impressive fuel mileage and has low operating costs. I personally chose the 2017 premier hatchback, which comes equipped with heated front and rear leather seats, a heated steering wheel, an 8-inch touch screen my link radio, a Bose sound system, turn-by-turn navigation, and many other options.

Even with a bit of a heavy foot, you can still get an average of 29 MPG while driving about 90% in town. This car is solid overall, with great lines, and can be outfitted just the way you want. It's definitely worth a test drive, whether you prefer Automatic or Manual. The Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are fantastic features that make it more affordable than having to add options or go up trim levels for something so easy to replicate.

I purchased my 2017 Chevy Cruze brand new from the dealership in July 2017 and I absolutely loved it! At the time of purchase, it had about 2000 miles on it. I found the car to be very sleek and the technology in the car was great (minus the manual seat adjustments). The car always drove well and I never had to pay more than $25 for gas to fill up my tank. Each tank lasted me about a week, even with all the driving I did from home to work to school and back again. However, one night when I was leaving the bookstore, the check engine light came on when I started my car. I was a bit worried, but I decided to have it checked out. Unfortunately, when I tried to back out of my parking space, the power steering locked up. I turned off the car and back on again, and it started up fine. I made it to my next stop, but again, when I went to leave, I had problems. This time, when I turned on the car, nothing happened. The engine wouldn't turn on, no click/crank, nothing! The A/C, radio, and lights would come on, but my engine wouldn't. I sat for 10 minutes trying to turn the car on before it finally cranked and I was able to make it home. The next day, I scheduled it to have it serviced. I turned the car on with no problem that morning and drove to the dealership to explain what happened. They had my car for about 6 hours and returned it saying they could not duplicate the problem, but they tightened the grounds and replaced a fuel ring that was on recall. I took my car back and it was fine for about 2 days before the problem started again. I would start the car in the morning and it took a few tries to get it to work. When trying to leave school late at night, I would have to sit for 5-15 minutes before it would start. I planned on calling the dealership as soon as they opened the next day to tell them. Unfortunately, before I got the chance, the car completely gave up on me. When I started the car the next morning to go to work and call the dealership, it would not start at all. Again, all the lights, A/C, and radio worked, but not the engine. I sat out front for 30 minutes and nothing.I called the dealership and they sent a truck to tow my car back and gave me a loaner, a 2018 Chevy Cruze. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for my car to be fixed as it has multiple issues with the braking system, engine/transmission, and electrical components. It's frustrating that these problems have occurred when I've only had the car for a little over a year and it has not even reached 30,000 miles. After reading other reviews, it seems that many people have experienced similar issues with this car, some even starting as soon as they left the lot. I would recommend avoiding this car and investing in something more reliable. Don't take the chance and buy something better.

During my visit to Maui, I had the opportunity to drive a Cruze for about 500 miles, mostly on the highway. Overall, the car has some great features. The Apple Car Play works exceptionally well, and the car looks much better than older Chevy models. However, I did experience some issues. Despite driving conservatively, I only averaged 30.6 mph, which is far from the stated fuel economy. Additionally, I found it difficult to shift into D instead of L, and the start/stop button was not very useful. The back of the seat was not padded enough, and I could feel my kids moving around behind me. Loading items into the trunk was also a bit of a challenge due to the height of the trunk entry. In my opinion, the Cruze is decent enough, but for the same price, you could get a Golf, Civic, or Corolla, which are all great options.

I'm disappointed to say that my new car has already required repairs within a week of purchase. Unfortunately, it stalled out on me at a red light, causing some inconvenience. The repair shop is currently working on replacing the module, which is causing some signal light issues. While this is frustrating, I appreciate that they have provided me with a rental car while they work on mine. I hope that this is the only issue I encounter with this car, but I will keep an eye on it. Overall, I would suggest that others consider their options before purchasing this vehicle.
