SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-30
- VIN: 1C4PJMLB1JD
- Components: SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: A week ago, I went to my local garage that I trust for a completely different reason than I ended up leaving with. I have a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. I have less than 62,500 miles on this vehicle. I do not tow anything. I do not go off road. I do not ride down trails or do anything out of the ordinary. I live in the Boston area. What I found when I was at the garage was an issue that the garage couldn't fix. I needed a rear differential unit replace. Jeep discontinued the Jeep Cherokee this year. What a coincidence because the differential unit isn't available. It's been on back order all year based on what I see online. I spoke to someone at a service department today. He told me it has been on back order, there are 150 ish that have been requested. There are 8 ready for deployment in July. So I will have 140+ people ahead of me for this thing that doesn't exist on a vehicle they no longer make. Today I went to a Jeep dealership and they looked at the unit and said at some point it's going to break and I'll lose control of my vehicle. They've seen this issue in the past and its not pretty and told me I should trade it in immediately. I have a vehicle with 62,500 miles that is essentially totaled . It will become inoperable in a matter of months, if not weeks. Even if they get the part, they told me it would be $3,500 for the part, plus another $1,500 for labor, plus likely the axle needs to be replaced, plus another part and it's likely $8,000 to fix it all. And it could be 6-12 months before they can fix it. I get it, it's sexy to chase the airlines. The headlines are great. Vehicles is another story. That's not a sexy storyline. But Jeep is taking someone who FINALLY paid off this vehicle this month and is forcing me to buy a new vehicle. I don't get to use insurance on my totaled vehicle. Jeep is forcing me into trading this vehicle in by not producing parts. Vehicle was inspected today. No warning lamps. It was found by mistake.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-15
- VIN: 1C4PJMLX9JD
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Approximately 3 weeks ago had SVC 4WD light came on. I took it to my mechanic and was told they couldn't diagnose it because a special subscription has to be paid for to access what the Jeep code is. Was able to find a mechanic that could diagnose the Jeep code, turns out the PTU needs to be replaced at an estimate of $5,000. In researching it appears many others have this same problem and is a safety problem for those driving the car. Of course, part is back ordered so that indicates this is a major problem with Jeep.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-05
- VIN: 1C4PJMLB0JD
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Vehicle started to make “knocking” noises from front axle when going over bumps. Brought to a shop that stated the ball joints just needed to be greased up. The sound returned within 24 hours and become continuous while driving. The car begins to shake and feel unstable at speeds above 45/50mph. Brought vehicle in that day to a new shop, which diagnosed the problem as a faulty/broken Power Transfer Unit (aka transfer case). They advised that this piece was under a safety recall for my make and model. Upon contacting a local dealership, they informed me that the safety recall does not apply to my specific VIN, and that the part is on national back order. The second shop advised that I can still drive the car with the broken part, however I believe the car may pose a safety risk in its present form- especially considering the part in question is under safety recall for my make and model

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-17
- VIN: 1C4PJMDX4JD
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Doing some investigation into this vehicle, it revealed that the current design of the rear compartment does not provide adequate protection against water intrusion. There are several points of entry through which water can seep into the electronic components, including the improperly sealed connector to the EPB. Furthermore, similar incidents involving the same make, model, and manufacturing year indicated that this is not an isolated problem. Numerous reports from owners of 2018 Jeep Cherokee have surfaced, describing similar cases of water damage leading to the malfunction of the electronic emergency brake. This suggests that there is a systemic manufacturing defect that needs to be urgently addressed. The implications of these malfunctions are significant. Not only does this defect render the vehicle immobile, but it also poses a serious safety risk to the driver and other road users. In both the March 2023 and June 2024 incidents, the affected vehicles were stranded in traffic, creating a potential hazard and increasing the likelihood of accidents. It is evident that this issue has the potential to cause harm and must be addressed without delay. Given the recurring nature of this problem and the severity of its consequences, immediate action is imperative. It is crucial that the manufacturing company identify and implement a solution that effectively prevents intrusion into the rear compartment by implementing alternative waterproofing measures. Additionally, it is essential for the company to take responsibility for the vehicles already affected by this defect. Adequate compensation and rectification measures should be provided to the affected owners. This could include financial reimbursement for as well as a recall and systematic examination of all vehicles manufactured during the same period to identify and resolve any potential issues before they escalate. The implications of these malfunctions pose serious safety risks and demand immediate attention.

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your 2018 Jeep Cherokee Overland! It sounds like you made a great choice with all the amazing features it has, like the panoramic sunroof, 3.2 Engine, fog lights, and leather seats. While it's a shame that it doesn't have a CD player, it's still fully loaded and I'm sure you're having a great time driving it!
-
There's not a whole lot to say, but it's a great SUV. I bought the base model, but it still has some amazing features, like de-icing wiper blades, which I had never heard of before. I chose the 3.2 V-6 for towing, and it's been a fantastic SUV. I really don't have anything negative to say about it. We've owned it for over a year now, and it's been great. I love the way it looks, and it stands out from all the other SUVs out there. The only thing I don't care for is the start/stop feature, but it's something new that you have to put up with if you want a new car. I believe all car makers have it. Speaking of towing, I've towed my RV, which is over 2000#, with ease. I'm planning to upgrade to a slightly bigger camper in the summer, so we'll see how it handles that. As for gas mileage, it's not bad for an SUV. The highest I've gotten is 30.6, and the lowest was 21.3 while pulling the camper up some big hills.

You have a very pretty car that is also spacious and elegant!

I've noticed a few issues with my Jeep that I'd like to address. Firstly, when shifting into reverse, there seems to be some transmission issues as it shifts hard and vibrates loudly. Secondly, the radio automatically turns on to full volume when starting the Jeep, which can be quite annoying. I wish there was a way to turn it off or keep it muted. Lastly, the defroster for the front window doesn't seem to work consistently. Sometimes it works properly, but other times not at all. It's worth noting that the Jeep has 57k miles on it and I hope to get these issues resolved soon.

I owned this car for 4 years. Although there were a couple of mechanical problems, I decided to trade it in instead of repairing it. It was a great ride with a comfortable seat, plenty of power to pass, and a good stereo. I purchased it after driving my wife's 2015 model. She now has a Grand Cherokee, so between us, we have essentially owned 3 of them.

I am disappointed with the discolorations on my brand new car that cannot be removed by the dealer. These blotchy marks seem to appear more frequently during the summer months when the sun is shining. They are present in various locations and appear to be a permanent issue that cannot be fixed by the dealer's service rubbing compound. I was surprised to see the same issue on another car in the showroom. Unfortunately, I did not receive any assistance from the dealer regarding this matter. As a result, I cannot recommend the Cherokee to anyone at this time.

The vehicle was purchased with 78 miles on it and has been experiencing rough shifting since day 1. Despite taking it to the dealership, the issue has not been resolved. Additionally, the car occasionally jerks hard after making a turn and lurches while in park upon startup. The radio also intermittently changes channels on its own. With 29,700 miles on the car, it is imperative that a solution is found to address these issues.

I bought my Jeep brand new and have been experiencing some issues with oil consumption between oil changes. The oil changes are done based on the dealer's schedule. When I mentioned the oil issue to the mechanic, they informed me that it is a known issue with this vehicle. I wonder why they haven't fixed it yet if they are aware of the problem.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Cherokee. After purchasing it with approximately 24,000 miles, I noticed that it would randomly shut off once it hit 30,000 miles. I called the dealership and they immediately knew the problem - it was probably low on oil. I checked it and found that I was due for an oil change, which was the root of the issue. Unfortunately, the problem continued every 2,500 to 3,000 miles and my dealership suggested that this was normal. I was quite frustrated with this situation and decided it was time to get rid of the vehicle when it shut off on a railroad track with my baby in his car seat. Luckily, no train was coming! I believe this is a serious safety concern and I hope it can be addressed. Thank you for listening to my experience.

Love it so far! Sorry to hear about the electrical problems you're experiencing. The dome lights blinking like a strobe light sounds frustrating. Have any other Dodge owners experienced similar issues? You did the right thing by taking it to the Dodge garage and having them call in the Chrysler techs. Hopefully, they'll be able to diagnose the issue soon. Hang in there!
