Chevrolet Cruze problems

chevrolet logo

The Chevrolet Cruze is a compact car that has been produced by General Motors since 2008. It was designated as a globally developed, designed, and manufactured four-door compact sedan, complemented by a five-door hatchback body variant from 2011, and a station wagon in 2012. During its introduction, the Cruze replaces several compact models, including the Chevrolet Optra which was sold internationally under various names, the Chevrolet Cobalt sold exclusively in North America, and the Australasian-market Holden Astra.

The Cruze was released in 2008 for the South Korean market as the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere until the phasing out of the Daewoo brand in 2011, when it was renamed to Chevrolet Cruze. In Australasia, the model was sold between 2009 and 2016 as the Holden Cruze. In 2016, the Cruze sedan was restyled and renamed for the Australasian market as the Holden Astra Sedan, as a sedan complement to the Holden Astra family.

Due to the market shift towards SUVs and decreasing sales, the Cruze has been gradually phased out. Production of the Cruze in South Korea ended in 2018 as part of restructuring of GM Korea, which in turn ceased supply of the Holden Astra Sedan to Australasia. In the United States and Mexico, production ended in 2019, while production in China ended in 2020. Production continued in Argentina until 2023. It was replaced by the Monza in China, which is known as the Cavalier in Mexico.

Previously, the nameplate has been used for a version of a subcompact hatchback car produced under a joint venture with Suzuki from 2001 to 2007, and was based on the Suzuki Ignis.

  • Summary: I am writing to submit a formal complaint regarding serious safety violations and malpractice by SLValley Chevrolet, along with accountability concerns with General Motors (GM). This complaint follows an existing case with the Utah Attorney General Consumer Protection Division (Complaint SR:9-1384660535) and highlights multiple incidents that compromise vehicle safety and public well-being. Summary of Issues: 1. **Electrical Issues and Unsafe Repairs**: I incurred substantial costs, including a recent invoice of **$2,210.72** dated **October 23, 2024**, for a supposed resolution Salt Lake Valley Chevrolet was supposed to have resvoled for an electrical issue. Despite this, the electrical problems remained unresolved, indicating a lack of professional workmanship and charges for servces not rendedered. Also additional time and money wasted. 2. **Damaged Oil Pan**: Salt Lake Valley Chevrolet caused damage to my oil pan, and they attempted to charge me **$866.00** for this damage. I believe this to be an unfair and unjust practice that reflects poorly on the integrity of their service. I authorized an oil change with the electrical issue and after service the car came home leakinig oil. They damaged the components. An oil change would not have been conducted had there been damage. The April invoice with this company will also show a previous oil change and at that time no issue. 3. **Continued Safety Hazards**: I paid **$531.12** on **September 23, 2024**, for a battery cable replacement, oil change, and tire rotation, which resulted in a new leaking oil issue and a flat tire. My vehicle broke down in traffic due to these unresolved problems, creating a potential accident hazard on the road. Tried to charge me for the damage they caused to oil pan and plug. 4. **Carcinogenic Smoke Exposure**: I faced severe health risks due to inhaling carcinogenic smoke following a service in **February 2024**. A leak at the turbo line feed was noted, and d

The gasket in these models is known to fail and that can completely destroy the motor. When a head gasket fails that allows the oil and the coolant to mix; and that will destroy the lubrication in your engine and cause the engine to fail. Pepboys repair shop-- has the repair invoice.

  • Summary: I HAVE A 2016 CHEVROLET CRUZE AND THE TURBOCHARGER INTERCOOLER HOSE BASICALLY BROKE FROM WHERE THE END OF THE HOSE STARTS AND A LITTLE BIT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE AREA OF THE END PART OF THE HOSE. AND THIS CAUSED MY ENGINE'S POWER TO BE REDUCED INMENSLY. TO THE POINT THAT I HAD MY FOOT PRESSING ALL THE WAY DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR AND IT COULD NOT GO ANY FURTHER DOWN, AND MY CAR WAS MOVING SLOWER THAN A TURTLE, AND THIS IS NOT AN EXAGGERATION! AND ALSO, AT TIMES WHEN I HAVE BEEN AT A RED LIGHT MY CAR TURNS OFF. ONE TIME MY CAR TURNED OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET WITH CARS BEHIND ME. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A SHOPPING CENTER. AND THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ALSO FAILING BECAUSE I KEEP PUTTING FREE ON SO IT CAN BE COLDER AND ALL THAT COMES OUT IS HOT AIR. I DID NOT KNOW THAT THIS INTERCOOLER HOSE WAS A MAJOR PART OF MY VEHICLE'S FUNCTION. ALSO, THE TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON, WHEN I ALREADY HAD IT OFF. IF CHEVROLET CRUZE OWNERS DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE, THEY NEED TO KNOW. BECAUSE THIS ISSUE COULD EVENTUALLY MESS UP THE ENTIRE MOTOR AND POSSIBLE BLOW IT OUT. WHICH WE ALL KNOW A NEW MOTOR IS VERY EXPENSIVE

    Vehicle year: 2016

Leased the 2016 Chevy Cruz Premium and I'm glad I didn't purchase it due to the auto stop/start feature. I believe this feature could pose a safety issue if the start fails. The stop/start is both noisy and annoying. When I went to the dealer to try and disconnect it, the service department informed me that customers are complaining about this feature all day. However, I have 2 years and 11 months left on my lease, unless recalls are issued sooner.

It's important to listen to your customers and understand their needs. Some customers have expressed concerns about the stop/start feature and would appreciate the option to turn it off. Additionally, some have found the front of the driver's seat to be uncomfortable and suggest that it could benefit from tilting down a few more degrees. By taking these suggestions into consideration, GM can improve the overall driving experience for their valued customers.

If you live in a cold climate, it may be best to avoid purchasing this engine for your Chevy vehicle. Unfortunately, the turbo has been known to freeze, causing the car to go into safe mode and requiring a visit to the shop. This issue has been ongoing for two years and, despite bulletins being posted by Chevy dealers, there is still no fix for the problem. It is disappointing that Chevy is not standing behind their product, especially since this issue is well-known. I understand your frustration and hope that a solution can be found soon.

I have the 2.0L diesel. Although I bought it brand new, I have had several issues with grounding, exhaust fluid, exhaust sensor, and air flow control valve. Unfortunately, the seal in the valve wears out and sticks in cold seasons, which is a common issue that many owners eventually face. Chevy is currently experiencing a shortage of replacement parts, which can take up to a year to arrive and cost around $1000. Despite these challenges, the car is still drivable, but may occasionally go into low power mode in the winter and require a reset from the dealership. It's important to consider these factors before making a purchase decision. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I owned a Cruze for 2 years and unfortunately experienced several issues. The trunk wouldn't stay closed and there were problems with the coolant boiling over and leaking. Although the water pump and associated parts were replaced, the issues persisted. After researching online, I discovered that these coolant issues are very common with the Cruze. During the repairs, the dealer also found an oil leak and replaced more parts. While there were several recalls, there were also repairs that I had to pay for due to low quality parts. The car's MPG was lower than the EPA rating at 20-25 MPG and the engine struggled with hills when carrying passengers and luggage. Unfortunately, GM cars tend to depreciate quickly and my car lost half its value in just 2 years. While this was my 4th GM vehicle, I have decided to move on. Despite the issues I experienced, I hope that GM can address the quality issues with the Cruze and improve their overall reputation.

I'm so glad to hear that you had a great experience with your 2014 Cruze! It's wonderful that you decided to lease the 2017 model once your current lease expired. The new and improved Cruze is truly exceptional in every way imaginable. The handling, safety, appearance, technology, visibility, fuel efficiency, and rear seat room have all been improved, making it the perfect vehicle to take you back and forth from school. If you're worried about the start/stop technology, don't be! It's a seamless transition and you won't even notice the engine turning off as you stop at a red light. The kinetic blue with the RS package looks fantastic, and I'm so glad to hear that the Apple Car Play works perfectly with your phone. It sounds like you made the right choice between this and the Civic, and the dealership's great offer was the icing on the cake!

I've always owned Asian and German cars, but I decided to try an American car and went with the Cruze. I was pleasantly surprised with how smooth it drives and the beautiful interior design. As a 6 ft guy, I find the front seats very comfortable, and even though the back seat could have more headroom, it's still comfortable for a small car. In my opinion, the hatchback is even more comfortable than the sedan. The auto start and stop feature is awesome, with a very smooth transition that you won't even notice. It's much better than BMW's auto start feature, which is not as smooth as Chevy's. The car is very quiet and smooth on the road, and you barely feel harsh roads. As a commuter, I don't care much about power, and the MPG is amazing. I'm also impressed with the technology, and I'm sure Chevrolet will continue to improve this car. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this car!

I've been driving my 6-speed standard diesel Cruze for about a year now, covering 25,000 miles. I've kept track of my mileage and when I've needed to add exhaust fluid (which is actually made from cow urine!). Living in New Hampshire, I've experienced temperatures ranging from -20 to 100F, but I still manage to average around 49 mpg in the summer and 46 mpg in the winter. Although the change in mpg was sudden in both directions, I believe it was due to the fuel. Refilling the exhaust fluid every 5000 miles can be a bit of a hassle, especially when it comes to disposing of the container and dealing with drips. As a 6'4'', 250-pound guy with an athletic build, I find the driver's seat comfortable, but unfortunately, the other seats in the car aren't as comfortable since they don't lower enough, causing my head to hit the ceiling. My only complaint is with the technology. I prefer to be in control of my car and don't want it to drive for me. It's frustrating that I can't completely turn off the traction or stability control, especially during bad weather. I've had bad experiences with technology causing problems during dangerous situations, and sometimes it's necessary to drive sideways. I've also noticed that the brakes in the Cruze tend to remain on for a second or so after I remove my foot from the pedal, which can be dangerous when trying to avoid an obstacle like a deer. If I can't completely turn off ALL computer aids, I won't be buying another car. Lastly, the backup camera is far too bright at night, which can be blinding, especially since my car is white. It would be great if I could turn it off.

I've got just shy of 90,000 miles on this car at this time and it has been absolutely trouble-free. I just replaced the original Goodyear tires last week and the dealership took care of two minor recalls while replacing the tires. By the way, the dealership beat Discount Tire by $100 for equivalent tires. I'm averaging an impressive 37 miles per gallon, and the brakes are still good with no shudder or fade. The engine still runs great, and I replace the oil regularly using only Mobile One. I especially recommend using high-quality oil with any turbo-charged vehicle because turbos tend to keep spinning once you stop the car. Shutting the car off too quickly can shut the oil flow to the turbo off. I let it sit for a minute before shutting off, which is good advice for any turbo engine if you want the turbo to last. The MyLink infotainment system is great, although the screen response is a little slow. Overall, this is by far the best car I've ever owned, and being almost sixty years old, I've owned quite a lot of cars. I highly recommend this car.

I purchased this car in November 2016 with 56k miles on it. As of December 2017, it has 79k miles on it. I have spent a lot of time with this car and overall, I like it. However, there are a few things that I don't like. For example, the driver's seat has a power slide feature but no power recline, which I find odd for an LTZ model (although this has been rectified in newer models). Additionally, the fake leather doesn't wear well and the driver's seat has some noticeable wear and small cracks, but nothing major thankfully. I just have to be careful getting in and out of the seat. My boss's 2012 VW Jetta has 90k miles on it and the fake leather in his car still looks flawless. There are some cheap bits in the interior, but it's not too bad. The gearshift looks and feels cheap to me, but I may just be nitpicky. However, I really like the way the interior is laid out. Everything is where you would expect it to be (except for the power lock controls since this is a 2014 Cruze. They are in the center but were moved to the door in 2015). I like how the radio has actual volume and tuning knobs because a lot of cars are going away with that. Although it doesn't have dual zone climate control, which is surprising for the top of the line LTZ model, Mylink is pretty easy to use and straight to the point. Once you pair your phone through Bluetooth, it'll automatically connect in the future once you get in and get the car going. The back up camera is nice too, but since it's a 2014, it doesn't have the trajectory lines on the screen (although this was resolved in the 2015 models). However, this doesn't bother me too much as I'm used to it now. The backseat legroom isn't as good as its competitors, but it's tolerable if the front seats aren't pushed all the way back. The car drives really smoothly, surprising me with its performance. Although there is a slight delay of 2 to 3 seconds when taking off from a stop, making left turns can be a bit of a challenge. However, this is a common issue with this model and engine, as my grandparents have the same experience with their 2015 2lt. Once the car reaches higher rpms, the speed is more than adequate. In terms of reliability, it has been pretty dependable, with only an ignition coil and battery replacement needed at 72k miles. Although I was disappointed that my 5 year 100k powertrain warranty did not cover the cost of the ignition coil replacement, the dealership charged me $527 for both parts and labor. Other than that, I have no complaints about its reliability. The LTZ model also has smart key access, which is incredibly useful as I don't have to take the key out of my pocket for anything, even when going to the trunk. Additionally, the car locks automatically 8 seconds after I close the door, which is a great feature. Overall, I would give this car a 4 out of 5 stars as it meets my expectations for the most part. Although there are some minor issues, I remind myself that no car is perfect, and this is still an economy car. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone, but if you need a lot of room, you might want to consider other options.
