Chevrolet Cruze problems

The Chevrolet Cruze is a compact car that has been produced by General Motors since 2008. It was designated as a globally developed, designed, and manufactured four-door compact sedan, complemented by a five-door hatchback body variant from 2011, and a station wagon in 2012. During its introduction, the Cruze replaces several compact models, including the Chevrolet Optra which was sold internationally under various names, the Chevrolet Cobalt sold exclusively in North America, and the Australasian-market Holden Astra.
The Cruze was released in 2008 for the South Korean market as the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere until the phasing out of the Daewoo brand in 2011, when it was renamed to Chevrolet Cruze. In Australasia, the model was sold between 2009 and 2016 as the Holden Cruze. In 2016, the Cruze sedan was restyled and renamed for the Australasian market as the Holden Astra Sedan, as a sedan complement to the Holden Astra family.
Due to the market shift towards SUVs and decreasing sales, the Cruze has been gradually phased out. Production of the Cruze in South Korea ended in 2018 as part of restructuring of GM Korea, which in turn ceased supply of the Holden Astra Sedan to Australasia. In the United States and Mexico, production ended in 2019, while production in China ended in 2020. Production continued in Argentina until 2023. It was replaced by the Monza in China, which is known as the Cavalier in Mexico.
Previously, the nameplate has been used for a version of a subcompact hatchback car produced under a joint venture with Suzuki from 2001 to 2007, and was based on the Suzuki Ignis.

- Electrical Failure: Electrical failures are another common problem in the Chevy Cruze, with owners reporting issues such as cracked pistons, harsh shifting, steering problems, and faulty water pumps. These issues can lead to more severe problems, such as engine failure and overheating. For instance, a bad alternator or faulty sensors can cause stalling, while a damaged cylinder or metal shrapnel in the turbo injector can result in more expensive repairs.
- Transmission Problems: Automatic transmission cooler lines can leak, causing the transmission to fail prematurely. Symptoms include visible fluid leaks, a Check Engine Light, unfamiliar noises and odors, delayed acceleration, and vibrations. These problems can be attributed to several factors, including worn-out parts, damaged seals, and low transmission fluid levels.

- Clunking Noises: Clunking noises are a common problem in the Chevy Cruze, with owners reporting issues such as loud noises while going over bumps and potholes. These problems can be attributed to several factors, including jounce bumper issues, strut leaks, and damaged suspension components.
- Leaking Rear Lights: Leaking rear lights are a common problem in the Chevrolet Cruze, with owners reporting issues such as water intrusion and electrical problems. These problems can be attributed to several factors, including damaged seals, worn-out parts, and low coolant levels.

- Summary: I am writing to submit a formal complaint regarding serious safety violations and malpractice by SLValley Chevrolet, along with accountability concerns with General Motors (GM). This complaint follows an existing case with the Utah Attorney General Consumer Protection Division (Complaint SR:9-1384660535) and highlights multiple incidents that compromise vehicle safety and public well-being. Summary of Issues: 1. **Electrical Issues and Unsafe Repairs**: I incurred substantial costs, including a recent invoice of **$2,210.72** dated **October 23, 2024**, for a supposed resolution Salt Lake Valley Chevrolet was supposed to have resvoled for an electrical issue. Despite this, the electrical problems remained unresolved, indicating a lack of professional workmanship and charges for servces not rendedered. Also additional time and money wasted. 2. **Damaged Oil Pan**: Salt Lake Valley Chevrolet caused damage to my oil pan, and they attempted to charge me **$866.00** for this damage. I believe this to be an unfair and unjust practice that reflects poorly on the integrity of their service. I authorized an oil change with the electrical issue and after service the car came home leakinig oil. They damaged the components. An oil change would not have been conducted had there been damage. The April invoice with this company will also show a previous oil change and at that time no issue. 3. **Continued Safety Hazards**: I paid **$531.12** on **September 23, 2024**, for a battery cable replacement, oil change, and tire rotation, which resulted in a new leaking oil issue and a flat tire. My vehicle broke down in traffic due to these unresolved problems, creating a potential accident hazard on the road. Tried to charge me for the damage they caused to oil pan and plug. 4. **Carcinogenic Smoke Exposure**: I faced severe health risks due to inhaling carcinogenic smoke following a service in **February 2024**. A leak at the turbo line feed was noted, and d

- Summary: I HAVE A 2016 CHEVROLET CRUZE AND THE TURBOCHARGER INTERCOOLER HOSE BASICALLY BROKE FROM WHERE THE END OF THE HOSE STARTS AND A LITTLE BIT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE AREA OF THE END PART OF THE HOSE. AND THIS CAUSED MY ENGINE'S POWER TO BE REDUCED INMENSLY. TO THE POINT THAT I HAD MY FOOT PRESSING ALL THE WAY DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR AND IT COULD NOT GO ANY FURTHER DOWN, AND MY CAR WAS MOVING SLOWER THAN A TURTLE, AND THIS IS NOT AN EXAGGERATION! AND ALSO, AT TIMES WHEN I HAVE BEEN AT A RED LIGHT MY CAR TURNS OFF. ONE TIME MY CAR TURNED OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET WITH CARS BEHIND ME. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A SHOPPING CENTER. AND THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ALSO FAILING BECAUSE I KEEP PUTTING FREE ON SO IT CAN BE COLDER AND ALL THAT COMES OUT IS HOT AIR. I DID NOT KNOW THAT THIS INTERCOOLER HOSE WAS A MAJOR PART OF MY VEHICLE'S FUNCTION. ALSO, THE TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON, WHEN I ALREADY HAD IT OFF. IF CHEVROLET CRUZE OWNERS DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE, THEY NEED TO KNOW. BECAUSE THIS ISSUE COULD EVENTUALLY MESS UP THE ENTIRE MOTOR AND POSSIBLE BLOW IT OUT. WHICH WE ALL KNOW A NEW MOTOR IS VERY EXPENSIVE

Vehicle year: 2013
I absolutely love my Cruze! It's such a dependable, quick, and comfy car. Although it took some getting used to after driving my older V8 daily driver, all of that goes away when I fill up the gas tank. I'm happy to say that I haven't really had any problems with my car, except for one issue with the Turbo Charger before I even drove it off the lot. The dealer was so helpful and gave me a loaner while they fixed it, and then delivered my new car to me once it was ready. The only other repair I've had to deal with was a recall for the water pump. Every so often, there's a little bit of a shutter when I turn off the key, but my older car (an '86 T/A) does the same thing.

Vehicle year: 2019
After owning my Cruze LT hatch for 29 days, I have to say that I am not impressed. However, after 18 months of ownership, my opinion has changed. During a 750-mile trip, the car averaged 35 mpg and had ample cargo room. Power and acceleration have never been a problem and contributed to a nice trip. Although the 'start/stop' function is still not my favorite, I have gotten used to it. Unfortunately, the Android Auto feature still doesn't work as it is supposed to. Overall, I plan to keep the car for a few years and would recommend the hatchback for its performance and cargo capability.

Vehicle year: 2017
I rented this car for two days and it was amazing! The fuel efficiency was incredible, with the cruise control indicating 60mpg at 50mph and 42mpg at 70mph. The claimed 47mpg highway is entirely believable, if a bit conservative. The range with a full tank (13 gallons) was an indicated 538 miles. These are impressive numbers for a vehicle of this size that is not a diesel. The seats were very comfortable, and I was able to drive non-stop from Fort Lauderdale to Jacksonville without experiencing any aches or pains. The cabin was also very quiet, allowing me to carry on several conversations without any interference from exterior noise. The Bluetooth connectivity was effortless to set up, and the backup camera was clear and effective. The steering assist lines on the display were accurate enough, although I never really got accustomed to them enough to trust what they were telling me. The stereo had easy-to-use controls and produced very good sound. The 1.4L turbocharged engine was smooth, quiet, and eager to please, with decent acceleration when I floored the pedal. The 6-speed automatic shifted crisply and smoothly, and the brakes were firm, linear, and positive. I love them, especially because they are discs front and rear, a feature that is thankfully becoming the norm even on small economy cars. To be fair, the following will be mere quibbles and nothing in the list would prevent me from buying or renting one again. My biggest issue with this car was the parking brake. Although it was a nice touch to have a pedal-operated parking brake that kept my hands free, this one was mounted fairly high, had very little travel, and was stiff. My wife's 2011 Camry has a pedal-operated parking brake that is effortless to use. In comparison, the parking brake in this car was difficult to disengage fully, and I had to check the dashboard indicator light to ensure it was off. While some owners may opt to use the transmission to keep the car from rolling away, I prefer to use the parking brake. Moving on to the stop-start feature, I found it to be a welcome addition. The engine shut down and restarted so quickly and smoothly that I didn't even notice it was happening at first. The tachometer displays when the feature is active, dipping below zero to an area labelled as 'AUTO STOP'. However, I did find it frustrating that the feature is disabled entirely if you take your foot off the brake to creep forward a bit. Additionally, putting the car in Park or turning on the air conditioning causes the engine to restart. The windows are one-shot on the downward travel, but must be held in the up direction. I find it odd that other manufacturers don't offer one-shot on all windows in both directions. Lastly, the manumatic shift feature was confusing to me and I had to Google it to figure out how it worked. In my opinion, it should be removed entirely as it seems like a waste of engineering. To shift gears, move the shifter down into L range and then use the '+' or '-' button on top of the selector to get higher or lower gears. It would be more convenient to have a gate to the left or right of the selector and allow the shifter itself to be toggled, similar to how Mazda has it: pull back for upshifts, push forward for downshifts. The steering is nicely weighted and feels direct, although it can be a little too sensitive at the centre, making it a bit tricky to keep straight in a lane, especially with crosswinds. As for the stereo, the volume up and down controls are hidden on the underside of the right-hand spoke of the steering wheel, which can be a bit inconvenient. There are also two other buttons under the left spoke that I have yet to figure out. One thing I dislike is that the reverse lights come on when you exit the car, which can be a bit confusing and potentially dangerous. Overall, this is an amazing little car that deserves consideration.

I recently purchased a GM Certified Pre-Owned 2017 Cruze Premier with only 15k miles on it. Although I initially intended to buy a Malibu, I was pleasantly surprised by the Cruze's performance during the test drive and decided to purchase it instead. I have driven it for a few weeks now, covering over 1000 miles, and it has not disappointed me. The seat comfort and ride quality are great, even during my 100+ mile round trip to work through moderate rush hour traffic. The Bluetooth, Android Auto, SiriusXM, voice recognition, and climate controls all work flawlessly without any hiccups. The 1.4L turbo engine has plenty of pep, making merging and passing on the freeway easy. The gas mileage has been impressive, averaging a little over 33 combined, with the trip computer reading as high as 42 in highway driving. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and look forward to seeing how it performs in the long run.Update at 33k miles: I'm still completely satisfied with this car. I haven't had any problems or repairs. Actually, I think I like the car even more now than when I first bought it.

I bought this car a year ago and unfortunately, I've had to take it to the dealership seven times since then. I've had issues with the battery cable, catalytic converter, oil cooler, cylinder head, head gasket, air intake manifold, and more. As a 2013 model, I expected it to be more reliable. I reached out to GM for assistance, but unfortunately, they were unable to help me. I'm disappointed with the customer service I received from a company that prides itself on its customer satisfaction. I've decided not to purchase any Chevy products in the future and will be sharing my experience with others.

Do not buy the 2011 LT Cruze. It has been a disaster for me, with frequent problems such as oil leaks, engine overheating, and A/C failure. I have been left stranded multiple times due to engine overheating and smoke coming out from under the hood. Despite multiple attempts to fix the issues, they keep reoccurring. Based on my experience and other reviews, I cannot recommend this car. As a Chevy fan, I am disappointed but I will not be purchasing another Chevy. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this car.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2013 Chevy Cruze LT. Although I bought it on 8/14/13, it has unfortunately been in the shop 7 times since then. I had a few issues with a water leak on the driver's side, a weird grinding noise from the heater, and some transmission surges. Additionally, there was a strange scraping noise when I put my foot on the gas. After a while, I decided to call GM and they were incredibly helpful. They provided me with a rental car while the paperwork was being finalized for my new 2014 replacement Cruze. I'm so grateful for their assistance, as it has saved me a lot of time and frustration. Thank you, GM!

Our family has been driving GM vehicles for as long as I can remember. However, if GM continues to enforce the auto stop feature, we may have to consider purchasing vehicles from other manufacturers. It would be greatly appreciated if GM could provide a switch to turn off this feature, as it can be quite bothersome. Thank you for your understanding.

Leased the 2016 Chevy Cruz Premium and I'm glad I didn't purchase it due to the auto stop/start feature. I believe this feature could pose a safety issue if the start fails. The stop/start is both noisy and annoying. When I went to the dealer to try and disconnect it, the service department informed me that customers are complaining about this feature all day. However, I have 2 years and 11 months left on my lease, unless recalls are issued sooner.
