Chevrolet Cruze problems

The Chevrolet Cruze is a compact car that has been produced by General Motors since 2008. It was designated as a globally developed, designed, and manufactured four-door compact sedan, complemented by a five-door hatchback body variant from 2011, and a station wagon in 2012. During its introduction, the Cruze replaces several compact models, including the Chevrolet Optra which was sold internationally under various names, the Chevrolet Cobalt sold exclusively in North America, and the Australasian-market Holden Astra.
The Cruze was released in 2008 for the South Korean market as the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere until the phasing out of the Daewoo brand in 2011, when it was renamed to Chevrolet Cruze. In Australasia, the model was sold between 2009 and 2016 as the Holden Cruze. In 2016, the Cruze sedan was restyled and renamed for the Australasian market as the Holden Astra Sedan, as a sedan complement to the Holden Astra family.
Due to the market shift towards SUVs and decreasing sales, the Cruze has been gradually phased out. Production of the Cruze in South Korea ended in 2018 as part of restructuring of GM Korea, which in turn ceased supply of the Holden Astra Sedan to Australasia. In the United States and Mexico, production ended in 2019, while production in China ended in 2020. Production continued in Argentina until 2023. It was replaced by the Monza in China, which is known as the Cavalier in Mexico.
Previously, the nameplate has been used for a version of a subcompact hatchback car produced under a joint venture with Suzuki from 2001 to 2007, and was based on the Suzuki Ignis.

- Summary: I am writing to submit a formal complaint regarding serious safety violations and malpractice by SLValley Chevrolet, along with accountability concerns with General Motors (GM). This complaint follows an existing case with the Utah Attorney General Consumer Protection Division (Complaint SR:9-1384660535) and highlights multiple incidents that compromise vehicle safety and public well-being. Summary of Issues: 1. **Electrical Issues and Unsafe Repairs**: I incurred substantial costs, including a recent invoice of **$2,210.72** dated **October 23, 2024**, for a supposed resolution Salt Lake Valley Chevrolet was supposed to have resvoled for an electrical issue. Despite this, the electrical problems remained unresolved, indicating a lack of professional workmanship and charges for servces not rendedered. Also additional time and money wasted. 2. **Damaged Oil Pan**: Salt Lake Valley Chevrolet caused damage to my oil pan, and they attempted to charge me **$866.00** for this damage. I believe this to be an unfair and unjust practice that reflects poorly on the integrity of their service. I authorized an oil change with the electrical issue and after service the car came home leakinig oil. They damaged the components. An oil change would not have been conducted had there been damage. The April invoice with this company will also show a previous oil change and at that time no issue. 3. **Continued Safety Hazards**: I paid **$531.12** on **September 23, 2024**, for a battery cable replacement, oil change, and tire rotation, which resulted in a new leaking oil issue and a flat tire. My vehicle broke down in traffic due to these unresolved problems, creating a potential accident hazard on the road. Tried to charge me for the damage they caused to oil pan and plug. 4. **Carcinogenic Smoke Exposure**: I faced severe health risks due to inhaling carcinogenic smoke following a service in **February 2024**. A leak at the turbo line feed was noted, and d

The gasket in these models is known to fail and that can completely destroy the motor. When a head gasket fails that allows the oil and the coolant to mix; and that will destroy the lubrication in your engine and cause the engine to fail. Pepboys repair shop-- has the repair invoice.

- Summary: I HAVE A 2016 CHEVROLET CRUZE AND THE TURBOCHARGER INTERCOOLER HOSE BASICALLY BROKE FROM WHERE THE END OF THE HOSE STARTS AND A LITTLE BIT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE AREA OF THE END PART OF THE HOSE. AND THIS CAUSED MY ENGINE'S POWER TO BE REDUCED INMENSLY. TO THE POINT THAT I HAD MY FOOT PRESSING ALL THE WAY DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR AND IT COULD NOT GO ANY FURTHER DOWN, AND MY CAR WAS MOVING SLOWER THAN A TURTLE, AND THIS IS NOT AN EXAGGERATION! AND ALSO, AT TIMES WHEN I HAVE BEEN AT A RED LIGHT MY CAR TURNS OFF. ONE TIME MY CAR TURNED OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET WITH CARS BEHIND ME. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A SHOPPING CENTER. AND THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ALSO FAILING BECAUSE I KEEP PUTTING FREE ON SO IT CAN BE COLDER AND ALL THAT COMES OUT IS HOT AIR. I DID NOT KNOW THAT THIS INTERCOOLER HOSE WAS A MAJOR PART OF MY VEHICLE'S FUNCTION. ALSO, THE TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON, WHEN I ALREADY HAD IT OFF. IF CHEVROLET CRUZE OWNERS DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE, THEY NEED TO KNOW. BECAUSE THIS ISSUE COULD EVENTUALLY MESS UP THE ENTIRE MOTOR AND POSSIBLE BLOW IT OUT. WHICH WE ALL KNOW A NEW MOTOR IS VERY EXPENSIVE

Vehicle year: 2019
Hello! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my Cruze that I bought new in June 2019. I've had it for almost 7 months and have driven 6000 miles without any issues so far. Of course, this doesn't guarantee its long-term reliability, but in my 63 years of experience, I've found that new cars that don't need warranty service right away are usually a good sign of build quality. At this point, I have nothing negative to say about the car. If the next 100k miles are as good as the first 6k, I will be over the moon! I did have to replace the 02 sensor at 24k and 36 months, which cost me 501.00 and was a bit expensive. Unfortunately, I wasn't too happy with my dealer's response. However, I wanted to give you an update at 28k and 48 months to let you know that I haven't had any new issues since the 02 sensor last year. I've had the car for 4.5 years now and have driven almost 30k miles without any issues or repairs since my last update. Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Vehicle year: 2017
This car has a very quick acceleration at low speeds due to the higher torque from the diesel engine. However, it is important to be careful as it can cause the car to peel out. Additionally, it performs well on steep hills without slowing down. On average, it gets an impressive 44-50 mpg. If you do a lot of city driving, you can expect to get 40-44 mpg, while mostly driving on the highway will get you 48-52 mpg depending on traffic. It is worth noting that this car requires Diesel exhaust fluid, which can be purchased for around $7 at Walmart and will last for around 2,500 miles.

Vehicle year: 2013
I had a Cruze LS that we loved, but we decided to trade it for a larger Malibu. Unfortunately, after a year of poor Malibu mpg, we decided to go back to a Cruze. This time we chose an Eco and we absolutely LOVE this car! Even after a month of mostly below-freezing weather, I'm still averaging 36 mpg around town! On the three days that were in the 50s, it got in the low 40s. On the highway, it gets 45-50 mpg at 65-70 mph. Surprisingly, my fill-ups so far actually show slightly better mpg than the computer reading. The car handles great and is very quiet. The stick is smooth. As someone who has owned GM cars for 25 years, I can confidently say that the Cruze is my favorite. I was able to get this Eco for $17,300 after $3,500 in rebates (mostly from GM card incentives). A friend who rode in my car last week said,

Vehicle year: 2019
I've been driving this car for 6 weeks now. Before this, I had a 2008 Hyundai Elantra manual, but this one is automatic. I'm still getting used to not having control over shifting, so the transmission rating is just my personal opinion. However, I really like the auto-stop feature, which is what my review is mostly about. Contrary to what some people have written, I find it to be smooth and not jerky at all. It only engages when you're at a full stop and after a few seconds, but only if the cabin temperature is as cool as your setting. If you change any setting, the engine re-engages. It also does this if the temperature rises, but always in less than two minutes so it doesn't drain the auxiliary battery. The auxiliary battery and starter are located under the trunk liner, so it doesn't use the main ones. The car is not loud and starts up instantaneously. Over the past 6 weeks, I've been driving mostly in the city and my average speed is 21 mph. I'm getting 28.2 mpg, which I think is pretty good. If you're on the fence about the auto-stop feature, I encourage you to try it out for a few days as a rental or loaner from your dealer. Another feature that I love is the seven-speaker sound system, which is surprising since I have a base model. My Elantra was a 'sport' model, but this one rides smoother, is quieter, more solidly built, and handles just as well. It has great acceleration and I have no problem passing other cars. I was also pleasantly surprised by the amount of inside room. I was able to fit three boys in boosters in the rear seat. The inside trim isn't high quality, but I don't cause a lot of wear and tear there. I have Arctic Blue Metallic and I love the color. The exterior design is more attractive than the Focus, Accent, or Fortè. All in all, I'm extremely happy with the 2018 Cruze. I'm leasing mine and with zero down and $2500 trade-in, I will have paid $5832 cash out of pocket over 36 months at 10,000 miles per year, which is a great deal. Update 2/10/2019: The car handles well on the ice and in the snow.No need to worry about rain either! Just wanted to let you know that I've updated the MPG and mileage below. I'm currently at 5900 miles and still absolutely loving the car.

This car has been amazing and owes me nothing! The handling on the road is excellent, and the steering is so responsive - it's awesome! It handles like a small BMW I have driven. We have more than 245k miles on this car, and it is still going strong! We have maintained it well, and it has performed superbly. We have put in two clutches and only 2 sets of brakes. We had a coolant issue that was not a major problem, but other than that, the car has been extremely reliable. We have used it to haul kids back and forth to college and have packed it full of stuff. I don't want to jinx it, but it has never let us down. If you take care of this car, it will last. It has saved us a ton of money on gas since we bought it. I can't thank Chevy enough for making such a reliable and fun-to-drive car!

I've been driving my Diesel 14 Cruze for around 10,000 miles now and it has been running smoothly. However, recently the turbo stopped working and a message appeared on the dashboard saying 'reduced power'. As it is still under the bumper to bumper warranty, I took it to the dealer. They informed me that the particulate filter was clogged and it needed to go through regen. Although they couldn't find anything else wrong with the car, they charged me $320 to put it through regen. I was a bit confused as to why it didn't go through regen on its own if there wasn't a problem. Nevertheless, I'm glad that the issue has been resolved. Despite the hiccup, I have been averaging 40 mpg, which is great. Although diesel fuel is slightly more expensive than gas, I still find it to be a cost-effective option. While I do think that a Civic would have been a good choice, I'm still happy with my Cruze. It's a great car and I'm looking forward to driving it for many more miles to come!

I purchased my car brand new in July of 2011. The first 30,000 miles were okay, but I did experience some recalls during the first 15,000 miles. At 16,000 miles, the car died while backing up into the street. When my vehicle reached 35,000 miles, the dashboard illuminated with the 'check traction control' and 'engine power reduced' lights, and my vehicle stalled in the parking lot at work. The Throttle Body malfunctioned and failed, but it was fixed under power train warranty. The CD player and Navigation screen went out at 47,000 miles due to a short, but they were replaced under warranty. At 49,500 miles, the coolant system needed servicing due to an awful coolant smell in the cabin. At 51,000 miles, there was another coolant leak near the Reservoir tank, but it was fixed under power train warranty. At 53,000 miles, the coolant system needed flushing due to another leak. At 55,000 miles, the coolant system was leaking again near the radiator. At 57,800 miles, the coolant Reservoir tank and Radiator cap were replaced. At 59,000 miles, the coolant was serviced again for a mysterious vanishing coolant with no apparent leak, yet a horrendous smell in the cabin. At 65,755 miles, the Defrost Actuators failed with a loud popping sound when changing modes from defrost to feet, but it was fixed for about $875.00. At 69,000 miles, there was an oil leak in multiple places, but the oil cooler lines, Valve cover gasket, and some seals were replaced. At 72,000 miles, the Speedometer in the cabin made a ticking noise and was constantly stuck. At 72,800 miles, the car mysteriously died at 1 am, with no power and the key stuck in the ignition. It was towed to the dealer, but no issues were found and the vehicle started for them. There was another oil leak at 81,000 miles, and at 85,000 and 90,000 miles, there were more oil leaks as well as coolant. I hope this helps! At 93,000 miles, the 'Theft Alert System' went crazy and the car alarm was going off for no reason at sporadic times throughout a couple of days. Additionally, the hood latch and trunk latch broke. At 96,000 miles, the rear window defogger went out and at 97,500 miles, the rear passenger power window broke. At 107,000 miles, the car had to be towed 45 miles to the dealership from Madison due to a complete coolant leak, which left my family and me stranded for two hours in the winter. At 115,000 miles, there was another coolant leak and at 116,000 miles, there was an oil leak again. The dealer seems to think the PCV valve is going bad. Unfortunately, I have $5,000 in negative equity thanks to General Motors, also known as Government Motors. The value of the Cruze is basically worthless, and a lot of Cruzes are sitting on used dealer lots going unsold for this reason. I know I'm not alone; I've heard lots of people have had more problems too! Please do yourself a favor and steer clear. Buy anything else other than the Cruze. I have always been a Chevrolet man, but after my experience with this car, I can't wait until it's paid off in two years and I can get out of it! It's a money hog, and it's pathetic as well as annoying having to be in the service shop what seems to be like every other month or so. I hope the next two years of ownership hurry up!

I purchased this car back in March, thinking I got a good deal with only 20,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, a few weeks after buying it, the check engine light came on, and when I checked it, there was no code. A couple of weeks later, the driver headlight went out, which was surprising since the headlights in my truck have been working for four years without any issues. Then, the front driver side window motor stopped working, and the window dropped down (I live in Oregon, where it rains a lot, so this was not ideal). To top it all off, the car shut off out of nowhere and then started up again 10-15 minutes later. I am also surprised that the manual transmission blew up after only 26,316 miles, considering that I did not drive it recklessly. I bought this car to avoid putting a lot of miles on my truck and for fuel efficiency, but it turns out that the fuel mileage is about 12 miles off from what the little screen shows. As soon as this car is out of the shop, I plan to get rid of it. Overall, this has been the worst car I have ever owned, and I strongly advise against buying it. Thank you for reading!

I purchased my Chevrolet Cruze with the expectation of owning a dependable vehicle. However, after only one year and 34,000 miles, I encountered an issue where the car stalled. I took it to the dealership, but even they were unable to diagnose the problem due to the computer malfunctioning. Despite this setback, I remained confident in their abilities and they were able to use a diagnostic tree to identify the issue and replace the mass air flow sensor. Although there was a cost of $300, I am pleased to report that my vehicle is now running smoothly and I am confident in its reliability. Thank you to the dealership for their expertise and assistance in resolving this issue.

This car has had multiple issues since I purchased it in 2016. Within a week of buying it brand new, the brakes failed and it took a month to fix. In December, I noticed a bad oil leak and took it in for repair. The mechanics claimed that nothing was wrong with it after putting dye in the oil, but a week later the oil was still leaking. I took it back and they found a leak in the seals, which took 2 weeks to fix. However, about 4 weeks ago, oil started leaking again and after having my car for nearly 2 weeks, they found another leak and had to replace more seals. I am disappointed with the quality of this car. Additionally, I was told I would be reimbursed for the cost of a loaner car, but now I have been informed that I will not be reimbursed. This experience has been frustrating and disappointing.
