The Cadillac STS (Seville Touring Sedan) is a mid-sized luxury 4-door sedan manufactured and marketed by General Motors from 2004 to 2011 for the 2005 to 2011 model years. A version of the STS was marketed in China as the SLS through 2013.
It was equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission with performance algorithm shifting and driver shift control.

- Camshaft Actuator Solenoid Valve Failure: The camshaft actuator solenoid valve controls the flow of oil pressure to the VVT (variable valve timing) actuators. When these solenoid valves fail, a check engine light may appear, and there might be drivability issues due to improper cam timing. To prevent this issue, keep the oil at the proper level and change the oil regularly. This will help ensure the solenoid valves function properly.
- MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) Sensor Failure: The MAP sensor is responsible for reading the pressure inside the intake and sending this information to the engine control module. If the MAP sensor fails, a check engine light may appear with a MAP sensor code. Replacing the MAP sensor is a relatively simple process that involves disconnecting the electrical connector, removing the bolt, and removing the sensor. A new sensor can then be installed by reversing these steps.
- Passenger Presence Sensor Failure: The passenger presence sensor is located in the passenger seat and determines if there is a passenger on the seat for the airbag system. If the sensor fails, the airbag light may come on with a code for the passenger presence system. To fix this issue, replace the sensor. It's important not to place any objects on the seat, as this can damage the sensor. Only a passenger should be on the seat.
- Steering Wheel Position Sensor Failure: The steering wheel position sensor is located at the base of the steering column and senses the steering wheel's position, sending a signal to the ABS module for the stability system. If the steering wheel position sensor fails, the service stability light and ABS light may come on. Replacing the steering wheel position sensor involves disabling the airbag system, removing lower dash panels, removing the intermediate shaft, and sliding the sensor out. These steps should be reversed to reinstall the new sensor.

The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the sensor was replaced and reprogrammed on multiple occasions; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V108000 (Exterior Lighting). The contact left a message with a service manager at the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.

- Summary: The Cadillac Company sent me a letter several years ago informing me of a premature timing chain wear and the illumination of the Service Engine light. They knew about this defective engine problem but they did not recall the vehicle. Instead they extended the engine warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles. I have only 90,000 miles on my vehicle but I've owned it for over 10 years and now the check engine light is illuminated. The Cadillac dealer refuses to extend the warranty. This is a safety issue because if the engine were to fail the driver would also lose power steering and power brakes putting the safety of the vehicle occupants and others at risk. I believe that this vehicle and other GM vehicles with the 3.6 liter engine should be recalled and repaired at no cost to the vehicle owner.

- Summary: I HAD THIS CAR SERVICED AT GOLD COAST CADILLAC, OAKHURST, N.J. ON MARCH 25, 2013 AND THE MILEAGE WAS 42,951. SINCE MY WIFE DOES NOT DRIVE MUCH ANYMORE, WE DO NOT USE THIS CAR VERY MUCH AS YOU CAN SEE BY THE MILEAGE. ON OR ABOUT NOVEMBER 13, 2014 I GOT INTO THE CAR AND WHEN I STARTED THE ENGINE THE DISPLAY SAID "SERVICE AIR BAG". SINCE I FELT THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY GM BECAUSE OF ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH AIR BAGS, I EMAILED A LETTER TELLING GM ABOUT MY PROBLEM. I RECEIVED A FOLLOW UP CALL FROM SOME WOMEN REPRESENTING GM. I TOLD HER ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND SHE TOLD ME MY CAR WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. I GUESS NEITHER WERE ALL THE GM CARS THAT HAD DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCHES. I TOLD HER THAT THIS CAR HAD NEVER BEEN TOUCHED BY ANOTHER CAR (ACCIDENT) AND IS IN PRISTINE CONDITION WITHOUT THE SLIGHTEST SCRATCH ON IT AND I DID NOT WANT TO GO TO THE DEALER AND HAVE HIM CHARGE ME $600.00 TO REPAIR AN AIR BAG THAT HAD A DEFECT IN IT. I DID NOT WANT TO CHANCE BEING CHARGED A LOT OF MONEY FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT MY FAULT. I AM WRITING YOU TO TELL YOU ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE THERE ARE MILLIONS OF AIR BAGS THAT ARE DEFECTIVE AND I THINK I HAVE A DEFECTIVE AIR BAG AND GM SHOULD INSPECT IT AND FIX IT FREE OF CHARGE. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

- Summary: UPON REACHING HER DESTINATION MY WIFE REACHED UP TO PUSH THE STOP ENGINE TOGGLE SWITCH AND THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY COLLAPSED INTO THE INSIDE OF THE DASH PANEL. SINCE THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY NEARBY. THEY WERE ABLE TO REMOVE THE DASH PANEL AND FOUND THAT THE HOUSING BOX FOR THE SWITCH HAD BROKEN AWAY FROM IT'S DASH MOUNT AND FELL INTO THE DASH. THEY WERE ABLE TO EPOXY IT BACK TOGETHER AND FURTHER SECURED IT WITH A ZIP TIE AS A TEMPORARY FIX.

- Summary: GM IS RECALLING 4,586 MY 2008 CADILLAC STS AND STS-V PASSENGER VEHICLES FOR FAILING TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 138, 'TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEMS' (TPMS). THE STANDARD REQUIRES AN INDICATION TO THE DRIVER FOR CERTAIN TPMS MALFUNCTIONS. WHEN THE SYSTEM DETECTS A MALFUNCTION, THE LOW TIRE WARNING LIGHT SHOULD FLASH FOR ABOUT ONE MINUTE AND THEN STAY ON THE REMAINDER OF THE IGNITION CYCLE. A DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER MESSAGE WILL ALSO BE DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL.
- Consequence: THESE INDICATIONS OF A SYSTEM MALFUNCTION DO NOT WORK. PREMATURE TIRE FAILURE COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE REMOTE CONTROL DOOR LOCK RECEIVER MODULE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 18, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CADILLAC AT 1-800-982-2339 OR THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE AT HTTP://WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM .

The 302-horsepower engine with direct injection V6 is a great feature. The bolder look on the outside and inside is sure to attract younger buyers. As someone who is 41 and in need of a 4 wheel drive car that can accommodate 3 car seats in the back, I looked at several options including the BMW 535xi, Lexus GS350 AWD, Infiniti M35 (currently drive Infiniti M45), and Audi A6. However, for the money, I stress that the 2008 STS was the best value. I particularly appreciate the increased performance and the side air extractors incorporated into the front fenders of the STS. Additionally, the new chrome-plated door handles and lower rocker moldings add more presence and refinement to the car.

I completely agree with the previous reviews. It's surprising that such a sophisticated competitor to Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, and Benz hasn't received any media promotion, commercials, or even a simple ad in the last eight months. Interestingly, there isn't even a dedicated 2008 STS Forum on Edmunds yet! The only downsides to the car are the lack of space for personal items (such as glasses), a small trunk, and an overcomplicated navigation system, which is actually inferior to the 5-year older 2003 CTS system.

I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to share my experience with two GM vehicles I purchased back in 2008 - a Cadillac STS AWD and a Silverado 1500 LTZ 4WD. I must say, the quality of workmanship was truly exceptional and the best I've ever seen in my 53 years of owning and driving all kinds of cars. Not a single defect, great fitment, and quality throughout. In fact, I would go as far as to say that they were just as good, if not better, than any foreign car or truck I've ever been exposed to. I was truly impressed and thought to myself, 'They've finally got it right!'

I overpaid according to these low prices...and I'm still not sorry. Why? Because the person who owned it first took great care of it and had regular service done. Additionally, I read the manual and other instructions so I know how it all functions. If you drive the car in a reasonable manner, don't race or tow anything, and follow these instructions, it will last 200K miles as others say.
