The first- through fourth generation sedans shared body styling elements with Japan-market Toyota sedans, and a domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Windom (Japanese: トヨタ・ウィンダム, Toyota Windamu), was sold until the launch of the fifth generation ES in 2006. The word "Windom" is a combination of "win" and the suffix "dom" expresses a state of perpetual victory. The fifth generation ES used body styling marketed by Lexus as L-finesse and debuted in early 2006 as a 2007 model. The sixth generation ES debuted in the first half of 2012 as a 2013 model, and features increased cabin dimensions due to a longer wheelbase which is shared with the full-size XX40 series Avalon.
Lexus has positioned the ES in the comfort luxury segment, with an emphasis on interior amenities, quietness, and ride quality, in contrast with more firm-riding sport sedans. I GOT TO THE POINT WHERE I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE TIRES AND TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE. I HEARD THE ENGINE REVVING AND I WAS TAKEN TOTALLY BY SURPRISE. MY REACTION WAS TO TURN TO THE LEFT TO AVOID HITTING THE WALL IN FRONT OF ME WHILE HITTING THE BRAKE WITHOUT ANY RESPONSE FROM THE CAR. I HIT THE WALL WITH THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF THE CAR AND KEPT GOING FOR A LITTLE WHILE UNTIL I SOMEHOW SHIFTED GEARS. THE CAR STOPPED AND I PUT IT ON REVERSE. I AGAIN EXPERIENCED THE SAME SITUATION ON MARCH 21, 2016 WHILE PARKING THE CAR AT A DIFFERENT PLACE. FORTUNATELY, NOTHING OBSTRUCTED THE CAR SO I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT BEFORE HITTING ANYTHING - THE OVERRIDE TOYOTA DESIGNED AFTER ALL THE EARLIER SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION ACCIDENTS WORKED THIS TIME. BUT THIS SECOND INCIDENT CONFIRMED TO ME THAT THE FIRST ONE WILL NO LONGER BE AN ISOLATED INCIDENT HENCE I'M FILING THIS SAFETY COMPLAINT SO OTHER LEXUS OWNERS LEARN ABOUT IT.

YOU LITERALLY FOUND YOURSELF IN NO MANS LAND, AS THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND AND YOU FOUND YOURSELF CAUGHT STRADDLING TWO LANES AND THE VEHICLE VIRTUALLYSTOPPED ACCELERATING. THIS SITUATION STARTING OCCURRING MORE AND MORE WHEN I OR JANE LANES,MADE RIGHT AND LEFT HAND TURNS, OR ACCELERATED FROM A STANDING STOP. T THE VEHICLE HESITATION, WHILE ACCELERATING, IS FRIGHTING AND DANGEROUS. IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. WE MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH NEWPORT LEXUS TO HAVE THE VEHICLE'S STALLING CORRECTED AND SERVICED. ON OCTOBER 21, 2015 WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO NEWPORT LEXUS AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM TO THE SERVICE ATTENDANT. THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED AND THEN ROAD TESTED BY CHRIS PERET, NEWPORT LEXUS CHIEF MECHANIC. AFTER THE ROAD TEST, THE VEHICLE DID HESITATE AT TIMES WHEN HE ACCELERATED THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE IS HOW THE FRONT WHEEL VEHICLE IS DESIGNED.THE PROCESS AND HOW THE VEHICLE ACCELERATION PROCESS WORKS ON A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE; THE GAS PEDDLE WHICH IS IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE SENDS A SIGNAL TO THE ENGINE WHICH IS IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE SENDS A SIGNAL TO THE COMPUTER WHICH IS IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, THE COMPUTER THEN SENDS A SIGNAL TO THE ENGINE AND THE VEHICLE THEN ACCELERATES. HE EXPLAINED THE PROCESS IS ALMOST INSTANTANEOUS AND THERE IS ONLY A VERY SLIGHT HESITATION. IF THIS LAST COMPONENT OCCURS YOU COULD GET A LONGER DELAY BEFORE FROM THE TIME YOU DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR TO THE TIME THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY ACCELERATES (1 TO 3 SECONDS).

- Summary: I PURCHASED MY 2015 LEXUS ES350 ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25TH, 2014. ON NOVEMBER 27TH, I WAS TURNING RIGHT INTO A PARKING SPACE AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AGGRESSIVELY ON ITS OWN CAUSING THE CAR TO RUN OVER THE CONCRETE PARKING SPOT STOPPER AND PROPEL 200-300 FEET UNTIL I HIT A PALM TREE, STOPPING THE CAR FROM ENTERING A NEARBY LAKE. THIS CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE CAR. MY WIFE AND I WERE IN COMPLETE SHOCK AS I WAS UNABLE TO STOP / CONTROL THE CAR - I ATTEMPTED TO PUMP THE BRAKES MULTIPLE TIMES (LEAVING TIRE TRACKS) BUT THE CAR CONTINUED ACCELERATING UNTIL WE HIT THE TREE. WE FILED A REPORT W/ THE FLORIDA SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT. ADDITIONALLY, THE DAY BEFORE (NOV 26TH), I NOTICED THE SIDE MIRRORS ON THE CAR DID NOT TILT PROPERLY WHEN IN REVERSE - THE LEFT MIRROR TILTED DOWN, THE RIGHT MIRROR TILTED UP. THIS MAY BE A RESULT OF THE 'MIRROR SWITCH BLOCK' BUT TOGETHER WITH A FEW OTHER MECHANICAL ISSUES, THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THE 2-DAY OLD CAR HAD SOME SIGNIFICANT AND DANGEROUS MECHANICAL / ELECTRONIC ISSUES. AT THE INSTANT THAT ONE IS READY TO BACK OUT OF ONE'S PLACE, THE UPPER 15 -20% OF THE REAR VIEWING AREA IS COVERED WITH A SERIES OF MESSAGES TRANSMITTING INFORMATION ABOUT THE BLUETOOTH STATUS. THIS INFORMATION MAY BE IMPORTANT TO A 14-YEAR OLD, BUT NOT TO A DRIVER. ONE HAS TWO ALTERNATIVES; EITHER BACK UP BLIND (NEGATING THE WHOLE REASON FOR THE BACK UP SYSTEM) OR WAIT FOR THE MESSAGES TO FINISH, WASTING GASOLINE. - Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: CRASH IMMINENT BRAKING
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Avalon and Avalon Hybrid vehicles manufactured October 19, 2012 to October 27, 2015 and 2013-2015 Lexus ES350 and ES300h vehicles manufactured June 18, 2012 to July 6, 2015. The affected vehicles are equipped with a Pre-Collision System (PCS) as optional equipment. In these vehicles, the PCS may unexpectedly activate and apply the brakes when the radar detects a steel joint or plate in the roadway as an object.
- Consequence: A vehicle that unexpectedly brakes increases the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace certain PCS components, free of charge. The recall began on July 28, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's numbers for this campaign are F1V and F2E.

Bought as a newer replacement for my 05 Avalon. I'm glad to report that the car drives and runs as if it were new, with no problems to report. The Lexus is a very nice driving car, with comfortable seats and nice pick up. Although it doesn't have some of the features that were on the Avalon, such as remote start and the power thigh extender, it's still a great car overall. Currently at 79000 miles.

It's great how easy it is to keep clean! I was pleasantly surprised by the gas mileage, averaging 28 mpg. I enjoy every moment I spend in it.

Seating is nice and the car runs and drives like new, even with almost 79000 miles. It's a very quiet car and great on the highway. While the power steering wheel could use the ability to extend about 2 more inches, it's still a comfortable ride. The Satin Cashmere color is growing on me, even though it appears silver many times. So far, I haven't had any issues, but I do miss the remote start feature from my 05 Avalon.

This is the best car I have ever owned! Two cars ago, I had a Buick Lucerne with a Cadillac Northstar V-8 engine. The car was fantastic! It drove as fast as I wanted and ran smoothly. The only problem was that I was in the Buick dealership every month with something new breaking down. I was on a first-name basis with everyone there. As soon as the car came out of warranty, I traded it in for a Mercedes E350. That car ran great, had a great engine, and an excellent sound system, but it was uncomfortable as possible. If I drove for more than 2 hours, I was in excruciating pain. I couldn't get rid of that car fast enough. I traded it in for a Lexus ES 350, and I am in heaven. This car is as comfortable and as fast as the Buick, but with PHENOMENAL reliability. I have only been back to Lexus for routine service. Last September, I drove 12 hours to South Carolina and got out of the car like I just got in, no pains, no aches, nothing. At times when I wasn't paying close attention, I was driving at 95 mph and didn't realize it. That car is that solid and that comfortable. I have already decided that my next vehicle will be a Lexus. The car is now 7 years old and still as reliable as new. I am 6ft 4 inches tall, and there is plenty of legroom. I switched my gas to 89 octane and increased my mpg to 23. Update: I traded in my ES and bought an RX350. I am in my mid-sixties, and it will be easier getting in and out of an SUV. I have had the car for 5 months now and absolutely love it. It is as comfortable as the ES and just as fast, and I am sure just as reliable. I am very happy!

My wife recently upgraded from an Infiniti G20 to a Lexus ES 350, which has added a lot of new features and is definitely an upgrade in most dimensions. However, the G20 felt like a well-designed car that did everything exactly as you wanted it to, whereas the ES 350 feels like a list of features that are not well integrated. The navigation is still on summer time, even though the rest of the car has moved to daylight saving time, and the voice command is not very user-friendly. Additionally, the radio is designed to make listening to plain old FM stations as inconvenient as possible, which can be frustrating. However, the car does have some great features, such as radar cruise control that works perfectly on long stretches of straight highway. Overall, while there are some issues with the ES 350, it is still a great car with many impressive features.When driving in the mountains and encountering a sharp turn, it can be frustrating when other drivers slow down and the radar loses sight of the car in front, causing it to think the road ahead is clear and allowing the car to accelerate. It would be helpful if the radar could use the signal from the steering wheel to understand when it is not a good time to accelerate. However, it seems that some car manufacturers simply slap on features designed by third parties without integrating them with other systems. While this car's radar is supposed to stop the car in case of a potential frontal collision, government data shows that it is not very efficient in doing so. This seems to be a problem with many cars, but some, like Honda, do much better. Additionally, the radar does not work in heavy rain due to the wipers blocking it. Despite having many features, some of them are not very usable or comfortable. However, the car drives well and strikes a good balance between comfort and drivability, with great traction control. With some investment in usability engineering and ensuring that features work well, rather than just stuffing in as many as possible, this car could be truly great.

I recently took my 2013 RX to the dealer for a NYS inspection and requested an ES 350 as a loaner car for the day. The dealer was happy to oblige. However, upon sitting in the car, I noticed that the interior was not up to par. The seats were hard and narrow, and the overall feel of the car was cheap. In comparison, my neighbor's new IMPALA had a fantastic interior. Although the ride was okay, it did not provide the firm quality experience that one would expect from a Lexus. Despite this, I must say that my RX is the best car I have ever owned. It boasts a high-quality and beautiful interior that is far from cheap.
